- George (10/5): - Room could do with some minor touch ups as showing signs of wear but generally okay and for what I paid for 10 nights I would consider value for money. Very basic but I knew that when booking and as I was working away I just needed somewhere to sleep and shower and this was perfect for that. Bed was comfortable, staff friendly on reception and room was warm and cosy. Enjoyed the stay, would stay again next time i'm working up in Aberdeen. Little co-op shop just down the road and the highstreet a couple of mins walk away so a decent location. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

Spent 1 hour outside the hotel trying to check in (as the instructions said no front desk and I had to check in to get the front door code and the room code) only to find there was a desk. After eventually checking in went to room. Mattress hard as wood and no hot water for either of the 3 days I was there so cold showers....avoid this hotel at all costs
- James (2/5): - Booking cancelled prior to our arrival unknown to us. Hotel blamed Expedia, reception not concerned about turning two over 70 years old out on the street with no accommodation. This was late in the afternoon. It was difficult to find accommodation which was much more expensive, which we expect to be refunded in full. Very disappointed and upset about the whole situation.

- Verified traveler (2/5): I don't recommend - I chose the option on hotels.com to pay the extra £10 to pay on arrival incase I needed to cancel. Twenty seconds later the money was out of my account. Hotels.com said this was non refundable and were not understanding the option I chose which said put in your card details but dont worry this wont come out until you arrive. Hotels.com said its ok its pending, I explained it would not be pending for 12 days, they have taken it out. They said they would phone the hotel, two days later I got an email saying sorry its non refundable. We had to go but I was worried because I was taking my elderly mother and young son. On the day I kept getting emails saying to complete check in online and verify my card details. I did not trust this so did not do it. When we got there we were checked in no bother without needing to fill in forms online or verify my card details. The hote was dirty, the banister was thick with dirt. The room was basic with large worn areas of carpet, the drawers fell off, the curtains were hanging off the curtain rails. The tv kept losing signal, I had to swap the aerial as one was just lying around. The shower was dirty and there was an empty can left sitting on top of the wardrobe by previous guests. There is a kettle but the receptionist said they have stopped doing tea bags altogether. So there is a kettle in the room but no milk or tea bags. No bar or lounge area like advertised on line. The hotel goes under three different names. The beds were comfy.

Overall the food was not worth the money. The front staff was friendly and did try to help with some of the issues.

- Kevin (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Very comfortable and spacious room. The shower was amazing. Good intenet and tv. Walking distance to the busy section of Aberdeen, yet a quiet area. Towel warmer in the bathroom. I did like the electronic locks on the doors, no need to worry about losing a key. The staff were helpful and friendly. Only complaint would be is that breakfast was listed as starting at 8, but nothing was ready, so we were not able to partake.

- Barbara (10/5): - The Highland Hotel (now merged with the Brentwood Hotel next door) is on Crown Street, less than ten minutes walk from Aberdeen bus and train station. It is just off Union Street which is the main central street in Aberdeen (the equivalent of Princes Street, Edinburgh - sort of!). We stayed for 3 days, breakfast included. The room, towels, and bed linen were spotless. But the whole hotel is 'tired'. There is no lift, but the reception man will carry up the cases for you. Usual tea and biscuits in the room. hairdryer, iron and board. and case stand. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, kind and cheerful. Responsive to any requests. The breakfasts were as good as in any hotel.(could be hotter at times) And they need a newer, quicker, toaster! The hotel is an excellent centre for travel in the Aberdeen area. Since 2 hotels have merged the room numbers are similar, so ensure which of the 2 hotels you are booked in at.

- Olivia (2/5): - The hotel cancelled our stay at 21:00 in the evening, leaving a hastily garbled message that our room wasn't available due to "maintenance." Interestingly, we were actually unable to attend due to a medical emergency, and were in the process of seeing if we could get a refund (though we knew it was unlikely) when they called us, obliviously unaware of our ongoing refund request. HOWEVER, they refused ALL refund requests from expedia, lying and saying that we HAD attended, and that they can confirm we were at the hotel and used the room. All this despite the fact that THEY cancelled on us, with a voicemail to prove it. And that I wasn't within 50 miles of the place. Look through the reviews, they've done this kind of thing before - as well as the fact that the hotel is not the Highland City Center, but actually "Oyo" hotel, or possibly Brentwood? This place is clearly a scam - either they have massively fewer rooms than they claim for whatever reason, or it is a simple scam where they frequently cancel on people for monetary benefit. Expedia refused to do anything about them, continuously siding with them for some reason, but did issue a discretionary refund on their end after about 2 hours on the phone. Goes without saying, but: Avoid.

- Elizabeth (10/5): - I stayed for five nights and was delighted with the quality of the room facilities, breakfast and service. This is a budget hotel, but the double room I stayed in was lovely and clean with a fabulous en suite, a nice big TV and comfortable bed. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, with a great choice of cold and hot options, served buffet style. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially Reuben and the young woman who served breakfast. I had a fabulous stay and would definitely return whenever I need accommodation in Aberdeen. For an affordable, comfortable hotel ideally located in the city centre, this hotel is a perfect choice. I would highly recommend. Thank you to the staff team for a lovely stay!

So confusing.. we just went to the address and Asked inside the oyo where the highland hotel was and told we were in the right place.. I asked if I could park on the street but they didn't mention they had a car park around the back.. it was pretty cheap so for one night it was okay and breakfast wasn't to bad either
- Mr Jonathan W (4/5): Basic accommodation - Basic accommodation. Room had marks on the wall showing that it once had a television. Breakfast coffee was sachets of Nescafé and an urn of hot water. Had a Kellogg variety box of cereal and decided to skip the rest of breakfast and find a cafe.
- Dave (4/5): - Room smelled musty. Wardrobe door had been damaged and was off it's rails. Water damage to the insides of the drawers. Staining on the walls. Carpets worn and shabby. Bathroom door was badly damaged. Shower took ages to heat up, and shower head caked in limescale. No housekeeping during our stay, no A/C in the room. Beds shoddy with thin, uncomfortable mattresses, torn and stained cushions on the beds. Only plus is that the location is fairly convenient for Union Street. Avoid at all costs.

- Terry (2/5): - The area was run down and scary. The photos of the room were taken at least 20 or 30 years ago. The web site said that there was free parking. There wasn’t and what there was was expensive and didn’t look safe. The tv did not work. To get to the room required winding through a maze of up and down stairs and uneven floors. I feel that the write up on Orbitz is dishonest and misleading. We tried to contact Orbitz because we didn’t feel safe there and were told that there were no refunds— no exceptions

- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is a nice hotel, conveniently located for the city centre. The single room is competitively priced and comes with a very good breakfast. The bar downstairs is a nice option too for a few drinks before going out.
- Neil (4/5): - Very disappointed with the service and standard of the accomodation. It is advertised as having parking but there is only 2 spaces which were being used by hotel staff. I was informed I could double park but would have to return at half past midnight to move my car to let the staff out. My room was on the top floor and as there was no lift I thought at the very least the guy on the hotel reception could have offered to help with my luggage (3 cases and around half dozen bags) but he just stood and watched. Breakfast was average and my room was tired looking while the shower room was probably the smallest I’ve seen in any hotel.

- Joe (4/5): - Nice breakfast and breakfast staff that's where it ends. check in reception guy needs a smile transplant no dialogue or conversation just room 103 upstairs. nothing about where the stairs were or anything about breakfast. very small cold single room facing rear car park and beer garden, the windows need replacing as they let in cold air, noise from beer garden and noise from the kitchen vent or beer coolers vents. cold wooden floor, blinds also need replacing as some are bent and twisted, pillow where very flat no softness in them. hole in bathroom door. room just at top of first stair way could hear other guests coming and going, television had a mind of it's own sometimes would work but with no sound of say no signal, overpriced for what you get, WON'T BE BACK

Going to Aberdeen, the sound of seagulls outside was to be expected - nothing the hotel can do about that! Would recommend earplugs if this should annoy future guests. Helpful staff and free breakfast made it a great stay. Ideal location too, just off the main street. Late check-out on Sunday was a blessing as well.

Short walk to the downtown area where lots of shops and restaurants including a casino, very disappointed in the format. Felt safe in the area but needed lots of patience driving around.

- Chukwudi (2/5): Extremely Poor. Would not recommended. - Arrived to check in, and had to stand for a while pressing the buzzer, took a while for a staff member to show up at reception. It turns out there was no parking even though this this was advertised. We were then directed to our room which according to the receptionist was outside the main hotel , and 4 blocks down the road. When we got to the front door of the room, it turns out that the door was locked with a key, while we were given swip cards. We then went back to the reception , and had to stand again for a while pressing the buzzer as the receptionist who directed us to the room had once again disappeared. When she showed up , I explained what the issue was, and she apologised and this time directed us to room 104 which is inside the main hotel, so I had to lift our luggage plus a pram back in again and up the stairs. Got to the room and it turns out the chair in room was broken , my little daughter nearly injured herself sitting on this , we checked the shower room only to also discover that the shower door had come off. Hence I had to immediately return to the reception, and as usual waited for a while to be answered, the reception seemed harassed and confused hence I didn't want to give her any grief, just reported it so we don't get blamed for it. Went back to the and tried to turn on the television, except there was no battery in the remote. Beds extremely uncomfortable, no lifts , poor accessibility. Would not recommended at all.

You could get some from the restaurant apparently, if you could get someone to serve you, or so they said. I gave up. Rooms nice size although only one chair in double room. Shower brilliant. Clean. If you have an issue with stairs, avoid!

- Mark (8/5): Pleasant hotel just off the end of union street - Pleasant hotel check in was good up to 10pm if like me you were going on a night out. Friendly staff. Room was upgraded and breakfast was included for only £40 in Aberdeen... pretty good if you ask me!

- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel in downtown Aberdeen - I stayed for a week with family and had a great experience with the hotel. Everything is clean and the staff is friendly, attentive, and the food at the hotel restaurant is quality. If you want to stay some place owned by locals and in downtown Aberdeen, stay here.
- Bryn (10/5): Great Stay - Room rate included breakfast for 2, which as great. Loved the breakfast, great location, easy check-in, bar downstairs that shows sports. Wi-fi was hit or miss though, but they are upgrading it at the moment. Toilet was nice with lots of towels. Room was cosy.

The gentleman who was at front desk started to check us in when the phone rang and he took the call and started to point to the sheet of paper for our details . Room was at the front of the hotel , it was also opposite the gents toilet for the bar and restaurant . It was not the peaceful weekend that we wanted .
- Elaine (8/5): Pleasant enough stay - Good overall stay, but a couple of negatives our room was above the beer garden so was pretty noisy in the evening up till about midnight. No lifts so trying to manoeuvre with buggy and suitcase was a bit of a pain. Room got rather hot during the night and couldn't really open the Windows due to the beer garden noise. Also other people coming and going during the night seemed to be pretty inconsiderate making quite a lot of noise, banging doors and shouting. Breakfast was good, staff there was really attentive and food good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible - Upon arrival we were given the most tepid greeting we have ever been unlucky enough to receive from the young gentleman on the reception desk. Each strained sentence produced by this young man was punctuated with a large sigh of exasperation at the end. It was apparent we were a sigh-worthy inconvenience. After breaking the record for the least amount of words spoken for a check in, the young man then directed us to our room (using the longest string of words in the check in process), telling us the fastest route would be ‘up the first stairs on the left.’ Like good listeners, we reconfirmed this before setting off. Little did we know that the young man on reception was actually a level 12 maze master and highly skilled in misdirection and he had entered us into the labyrinth. Hauling all our worldly possessions up two flights of stairs and then down another one, only to find there was a much quicker, and easier, way to get to our room if we took another route was mildly hilarious and soul destroying. The room itself, also known as the safe haven from the maze master, was what was to be expected from the research we did on the hotel before we arrived. We were (un)lucky enough to have a kettle that doubled as a fancy incense machine that permeated the pungent scent of burning plastic, a broken shower door that provided us with an impromptu water feature all over the floor and a bespoke towel set that looked like it had been fed to a group of hungry, hungry hippos.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed was very uncomfortable, room next door very noisy, was dealt with by hotel, hotel is clean and tidy, but as said the beds are so uncomfortable hard to sleep.
- Cilla (6/5): Pretentious and expensive - On first encounter this hotel appeared regal, classic and intriguing. That is until we walked up to the reception desk where we were met with abrupt rudeness and unhelpfulness at every turn. If seeking any level of customer experience, this hotel is not for you. If you seek condescension and the feeling that you are an annoyance or indeed, invisible, then this hotel is for you. Having said this, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, albeit noisy as most older hotels are. Keep in mind however that this one is positioned directly adjacent to the Aberdeen central train station and you will receive train whistles on a regular basis from about 4am. If you are staying for one night you can potentially put up with all of this, however longer term stays should be rethought.

- john (6/5): Better hotels in Aberdeen - Booked it because it had parking and it was central, but parking happened to be 4 spaces out the back of hotel which was full,but was allowed to block in all 4 cars if I left my keys,room was ok but tired,shower was terrible more like a trickle,we went back to hotel for a quiet drink after the cinema to find bar was really busy from which looked like some kind of function after waiting 10 mins and not closer to getting served and barman was not coping with everyone’s orders decided to go to room instead.buffet breakfast was ok but bacon , black pudding and sausages was empty and had to wait to get refilled, reception closed when we checked out waitress checked us out but did not know where my car keys were.

- Verified traveler (2/5): WORST HOTEL EVER - It was the worst hotel ever. The building is very old, no lift, reception is not organized well and on top of that, it is soooooo NOISY you can’t even sleep. Seriously, I’m not sensitive person but here the seagulls are just like screaming next to your ear. Not exaggerating, my bed was next to the window and I could see the birds just in front of there. I was much more angry because the person working there would have known that that room I stayed was the worst one. I was so mad I went out in the middle of midnight to see if other rooms were like this and found out that it wasn’t intense like our room. Not even worth a pence. The cleaning lady from Thailand was the best, nothing else.

- Linda (10/5): Highland Hotel is the Best. - We have stayed here a few times now and we just love it. The staff. the service, the location, the food, its all great. last weekend we sat out the back on the patio/decking with our coffee after breakfast and its all so relaxing. I always try to book this hotel first if going to Aberdeen and we have been in a few hotels up there.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel for the price - Stayed here with young children no problems apart from our room being at the top of the stairs so heard all the drunk people roll in at 3.30 so was quite noisy. Apart from that room was clean and big.
