Guest Reviews
- Scott (8/5): - Staff were great. Room was updated in the living quarters, bathroom was a little older.
It's not fancy, but was clean and comfortable. The street outside was a little loud, but not horrible.
Easy to find and get to
- Siew (2/5): - The hotel charged $315 per room, or $630 per night for two rooms. Unfortunately, the rooms did not include basic amenities such as air conditioning, fans, coffee makers, or breakfast. Considering the price, this was extremely disappointing and felt like a complete rip-off — especially for guests visiting from outside Superior. I strongly advise others to avoid staying at this hotel when visiting Superior, Wisconsin.
- Amie (8/5): - Clean room, friendly staff, not a lot of amenities. Walking distance to bars and places to eat.
- Peter (6/5): - The front desk staff was rude and unhelpful in resolving their own reservation issues with Expedia.
- Amanda (4/5): - The receptionist was not welcoming when we arrived. The building is old and not well kept. It seems as though there are rooms where people live full time. There was not a way to control the temperature in the room and the bathroom felt dingy.
- Carolyn (6/5): - For a 100-year-old building, it was in good shape. I didn't realize there wasn't AC, so with windows open on a Saturday night, it meant very little sleep due to all the noise.
- BreAnna (10/5): - Loved this historic hotel with an amazing little family restaurant off the lobby, great pizza place a couple doors down and plenty of nightlife within walking distance.
- Douglas (4/5): Don't bother - The air conditioning was non-existent. When we complained about the warmth of the room and the lack of air conditioning the attendant told us that they had removed all the air conditioners because previous guests had complained about the noise. She suggested we open windows. The problem was, that the blinds clacked with the breeze, so that we had to put pieces of luggage against the blinds to keep them from making noise all night. The bathroom was very dated except for the vanity. We did not use the refrigerator because it also made a great deal of noise when we plugged it in.
- Warren (4/5): - The front desk asked us about all of the information that they already had in their system--very frustrating.
Also, no air conditioning in our room :(
- Anthony (4/5): - Hotel did not have air conditioning and it was 87 degrees out. Flimsy towels and bedding, No hairdryer, bathroom door didn't close. Lobby smelled like smoke.
- Maria (4/5): - No control of air in the rooms and no standard amenities compared to other hotels on the area
- Ana Luz (6/5): - The room has no AC, no free breakfast, old building. Not as highly efficient as the newer hotels.
- Laurie (6/5): - Very small room. Extremely small bathroom; there wasn’t any space in the bathroom to set individual toothpaste, makeup, hair care items. The room was very expensive for the size. Small TV and no dresser because there wouldn’t have been room for one.
It was fun to imagine how amazing the hotel would have been in its former glory.
- Kayla (10/5): - The historic building was so cool! They still had the old elevator call buttons and mail shoot and many other details. The room was nice and clean and smelled fresh. This room was available at the same price point as the cheap motels/hotels nearby and was a much better experience than the other nearby hotel we had stayed in the day before.
- Catherine (8/5): - Wish air conditioning was still in room. Only problem we encountered on our visit.
- Lila (8/5): - Breakfast was not included.
- Bryan (4/5): - Hotel was not what we expected for the price. We checkef on the room. It was not at all what it appeared in the photos, especially the bathroom. The building is old and was not sprinkled. It may have been a great property in the past it was not safe we did not stay.
- Matt (6/5): - Nice clean room, bathroom was small and didn’t have AC
- Timothy (8/5): - Staff was very friendly and concerned for my needs. Just wish I had more room in the bathroom.
- Nick (8/5): - Married men pay attention!!!
I gave this hotel relatively high marks because it’s difficult to find justification to rate it lower. That being said, my wife HATED being here and would be a lot more harsh, I’ll explain why at the end.
The room was quite clean, and tastefully decorated with an appealing modern look. The building itself had some charm to it if you’re into that kind of thing, and overall I think the value for the money was pretty good.
Now for the bad:
No AC or fan or anything. Not that they claim to have AC, but it’s such a standard thing that it’s very easy to overlook and make the assumption that they would have it.
Hot water takes about 2 business days to get to your room and is inconsistent at best. Any flush of a toilet in other rooms (which you will hear) will burn you.
If you’re on the road side, road noise is excessive and will keep you up at night if you’re a light sleeper
The bathroom, though clean and modernized, is tiny and the toilet is too close to the wall and the vanity which makes it very uncomfortable and awkward to sit on, there’s also no hair dryer which again, they didn’t claim there was but it’s such a standard amenity that it was a little surprising. Good thing my wife always packs her own anyway.
Overall, I’d stay here again for business or just passing through, but I would NOT bring my wife here again. She never felt safe and secure (this part of superior appears pretty rough) plus the above complaints are why.
- Deon (10/5): - No air conditioning but the staff was very helpful and got us a fan which cooled down the room very fast!
- Mark (8/5): - Thanks
- Eric (10/5): - Loved combo of old hotel with so much character but modern amenities. Very nice!
- mary (8/5): Great location - We booked our hotel on hotels.com very last minute. They weren't quite ready for us when we got there but there are plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained if you must wait. The bed was comfy and the room was good, I wouldn't say great because the window was really hard to open and the sill was pretty gross (damn pigeons). I know that's hard to keep up on but would be nice to get fresh air without the poop staring at ya. The restaurant attached the hotel was so cute and delicious, highly recommend grabbing a bite there before you take off.
- Alison (8/5): - Grand old hotel with quaint rooms. Good sized room and beautifully decorated. Comfortable bed and linens. Many things were within walking distance or a short drive away.
- Colette (10/5): - Location was very accessible and clean. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
- Christine (8/5): Little room but good dtay - Very clean, quiet , room was small, it was hard to turn on faucet for shower. Has a nice restaurant connected to it. Would stay here again
- Wayne (10/5): - I’ve been staying at the Androy Hotel for about 35 years. It’s an older historic hotel in downtown Superior that has had updates throughout the years. Always friendly staff and clean rooms.
- Georgiann (8/5): - Older hotel that has been updated but still has an old time charm. The rooms were comfortable.
- Lisa (6/5): - It was alright
- Lynn (10/5): - It is convenient to my daughter. The staff is always pleasant and the rooms are very nice and updated for a very old building, I love that.
- Elwyn (2/5): - It is very old and not well maintained.
- Lois (10/5): - It is very unique. We loved the room lighting, the colors and artwork. 100 year hotel but with all the modern emenities, lots of character!
- Deborah (10/5): - Loved the charm - clean, nice staff.
- Scott (8/5): - It was good weather and eatery’s around were good too.
- Anshul (6/5): - We stayed for one night with small kids. Overall its a very old property, so didn't had high expectations. Parking was behind and helpful to have. Room was spacious and bathroom had hot water. Hotel is conveniently located, near lot of shops, gas stations. On the improvement side, We didn't get any coffee-maker (I assumed that's a given these days) and no iron.
- Ryley (10/5): - Definitely will be staying here again!
- Mayura (8/5): - Good location
- Scott (8/5): Good place to stop and rest - Was clean and comfortable
- Thomas (8/5): - It was as expected and a good deal.
- Pamela K (10/5): - Great character….VERY FRIENDLY!
Great room and prices
- Andrea (6/5): - Nice stay for the price. Only complaint is water in shower took at least 5 mins to heat up
- Pantea (4/5): - Expensive for the quality of the hotel. Very noisy
- Alex (2/5): Gross. - The room was disgusting. There was a musty smell throughout the whole hotel. The ceiling in my room was falling apart, there was mold in the fridge and what i believe to be rat droppings in the window sill. I went to the desk worker to say the room was unacceptable and he shrugged and said "that makes sense"
- Cristina (8/5): - We had a nice time and the room was updated and modern. The lady at check in was very nice. Negatives was that The T.V. was too high on the wall in our room and there was a lamp hanging in the way of the screen.
- Jacquelyn (10/5): - This is a 1925 building that has been updated. It was fun seeing the original details that still exist. The rooms have been updated, the bathrooms could use a little tlc.
- Tamera (8/5): - This is a very quaint and uniqie place to stay. An old office building remodeled into a hotel, but with many of the old world uniqueness, which goves it its beauty.
My only complain was
- Todd (8/5): - Cool mural in lobby, art deco fixtures.
Historic smaller rooms.
Bed was a little soft.
Would stay again
- Donald (10/5): - Staff was very nice. Good location.
- William (8/5): - It was a pleasant stay in this charming property.
- Kelly (8/5): - The room was comfy and convenient to have a restaurant in the same building
Off street, free parking was appreciated!
- Heidi (4/5): - Needs to be renovated.
- Peter (10/5): - The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. It's a charming unique hotel not a modern updated place. Quiet and beds were comfortable. The only problem was the elevator broke. A new motor was being installed when we left.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean, Friendly Stay - Service was excellent! We made a last minute reservation due to our planned stay had no hot water. Originally my daughter and I took the last room available at the $80 per night rate and it had 1 king bed. Upon arrival the front desk staff found a room with 2 beds and gave us that at the same rate! Elevator was down the s cond and third days, but staff was so helpful and helped us down the stairs with our cooler and bags, even went out to the car with us! Very clean, no frills hotel. If you need a bed for a night or two just as a "home base", this does the trick.
- Qinyi (2/5): - horrible stay
- Kathryn (10/5): - This hotel offers a comfortable bed, clean rooms, and easy (free) parking. The building from the 1920’s and offers that type of accommodation with modern amenities. My room was made up daily which doesn’t seem to be so common nowadays. The only drawback for me was that the elevator was broken. That’s a bummer when dealing with luggage but for the price, perfectly fine.
- Christopher (10/5): Geedtime amigos - Great location for working in the twin ports. Very nice room and neighborhood. Plenty of short walking distance food options.
- Paul (6/5): - The room had a window A/C unit, which meant lots of outdoor street noise.
The bathroom ceiling leaked into the tub.
The room was clean, but dingy, and it had a damp smell.
- Katie (8/5): - Hotel was quaint. Good for one night and for what we needed.
- s (4/5): Elevator broke, LOTS of stairs - Hotel called us while we were driving, about 2 hours out from arrival, and told us the elevator was broken, asking us if this would be a problem and if we would need to cancel. I told them its a pretty big problem bc my husband is mobility impaired and uses a walker. However, finding a replacement hotel on a Friday night, in the summer, on the North Shore at this late notice would be next to impossible.
They said the elevator repair company couldnt make it out until Monday. I found out from another person there that the elevator had been out of service for THREE WEEKS.
Some background on the architecture here-- the main floor has no rooms, and has a very tall ceiling. As a result we had to climb 4 flights of stairs to get to our room on the 2nd floor. This entailed me helping my husband slowly navigate the stairs while gripping the railing, then him waiting on each of 4 landings while I lugged up his 4-wheel walker and our 2 suitcases... doing this 4 times to get up 4 flights.
Not ONE hotel employee offerred to help me.
I should also mention the 1st floor and stairwells had no real A/C, just a big fan blowing (room A/C was fine). So you can imagine how sweaty I was after lugging everything up the 4 flights. Great to be dripping in sweat before you're going to head out to a show that evening- in town to see Jim Gaffigan for my husband's birthday. The only thing the person that checked us in gave us was a 20 dollar bill for the inconvenience.
1 positive= bed was comfortable
- Margaret M (6/5): - The elevator didnt work and Expedia didnt make me aware of this prior to my booking.
- Oscar (10/5): - Was great overall
- Linda (4/5): - The hotel is in Wisconsin not Duluth, this was deceiving.
- Haley (6/5): - So so
- Angela (10/5): Unique Gem! - A unique gem of a hotel with recently remodeled rooms. Great nights sleep on a very comfortably bed.
- DANIEL (4/5): - Very old hotel. Noisy!
- sean (8/5): - The place is clearly a classy joint with a lot of potential, and I love the art deco in the lobby. They are working hard on bringing the place back to its former glory, and its going to be amazing when they get it done! Just a few minor details needed attention, I would definitely stay here again.
- Carey (8/5): - Historic property with newly renovated rooms. If you just need a room and no amenities (coffee, ice, pool, breakfast) this is a great place to stay in Superior.
- Becky (8/5): - Neat old hotel that has been nicely renovated. Original charm still intact. Convenient location close to Canal Park.
- Daniel (8/5): - The Androy was a great deal. It's an historic property, but it needs some upkeep! We got an actual key for the room, which was unique. Staff were wonderful, and the room was adequate. I wish the elevator would have worked, and there were whole rooms open with beds and other items just thrown into them. It did not give a good first impression. Ultimately, it was a good stay, and we were only there to sleep. I think some updates would be nice, though.
- John (2/5): - Very sorry but this property is just too old and smelly. The elevator was out of order. Felt like our car wasn’t safe. Remember to clean the vents and cover the storage area. I thought the lobby was pretty cool.
- Marshall (6/5): - Hotel has a bad smell, elevator broken.
- Angel (10/5): - The hotel was built in 1925, so it was great to be a part of history. Very clean and quiet.
- Joseph (8/5): - My wife and I liked the historic aesthetic of the hotel. It maintained the 100 year old style while still having modern amenities. We appreciated that the location had many restaurants and places to see in walking distance.
- Allan (6/5): Oldy but OK - There is no elevator, plan on using stairs. no breakfast in the AM. The bathroom was tiny.
- Roger (4/5): - Nice historic old Hotel but the rooms are seriously out of date. Old bathrooms are tiny.
- Hannah (8/5): Great Vintage Charm - We just spent one night at the Androy. They did a nice job updating while still keeping its vintage charm. The service was great. The room was spacious and clean. The only thing was that the bathroom was quite small. Also, you must park around back but walk around the block to get in due to limited parking in Superior. Other than that we had a nice stay!
- Jon (2/5): - Had TBI associated seizure & hit head causing some bleeding. Got blood on linens in sleep and was charged $250 for that & damage to bathroom door that was there when we checked in. Was told I would get $100 of it and my $ 50 in incidentals back and following week still haven't received either
- Jane (8/5): - Friendly pleasant reception staff, easy check in
- Jeanne (8/5): - Classic renewed old hotel. Basic, but nice.
- Meghan (6/5): - Historic hotel atmosphere, but sheets and covers were scratchy and stained. Needs maintenance and better parking
- Thomas (10/5): - The
- Thomas (10/5): - Quiet. Convenient. Affordable. Amazing.
- keith (8/5): - authentic older building.
- Barbara (4/5): Can’t recommend - Very small room and small bathroom. All the furniture seemed really low. My room faced the street with a difficult to operate window air conditioner. When the fan would go off on the air conditioner, you could hear the traffic noise easily. Very few amenities… No box of Kleenex, and no hairdryer.
- George (6/5): Old Building with updates. - Stayed for 3 nights. Wanted to try this hotel because of the history. Room had old charm with modern updates. Room had window A/C unit. Temp got cool at night and had to use space heater in room.
- Robert (8/5): - Our original room qwas cramped and no heat (it was about 60 deg. out). But they moved us to a very comfortable room. Staff were friendly.
- Charles (6/5): - If you don’t mind drunkards yelling across the street at the nearby bars, this may be a good place to stay.
- steven (8/5): - Beautiful older style downtown hotel. Rooms a tad small but nice and clean. Parking could be a problem. Weren’t many spots left, but we got one. No coffee or breakfast.
- Tina (10/5): - It was nice and quiet. It was very clean. The staff were friendly. The room we had was quite large. The bed was comfortable.
- Lynda (8/5): - Very nice.
- Piper (2/5): - There was no heat in the room. They had the boiler system off. The window air conditioner allowed wind to blow into the room. They gave us a space heater but it kept tripping the breaker. We ended up not staying and got a refund for the cost of the room.
- Susan (10/5): - Beautiful building inside. Beds were super comfortable. Loved the old building charm.
- Cheryl (10/5): - It was my first time staying here and it was a great experience. Old boutique hotel that I understand was recently updated. Very clean and smelled wonderful everywhere. My room had a full kitchen area with a working sink. Many outlets. Lots of closet space and the king size bed was very comfy. The lobby has a lot of character with a fireplace and lovely furniture. It was reasonably priced and there is a restaurant on site with good food. I will definitely be staying here again when I go to Duluth.
- Dale (10/5): - The location was perfect for me.
- Rachele (8/5): - This place has charm. The staff were nice and accommodating. It does get a little noisy with the bar next door but overall a good place to stay the night
- douglas (4/5): - Did not have toilet paper in room . Did not get my deposit back
- Jared (10/5): - Nice hotel that is getting renovated. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Great option for the price
- Peter (8/5): - We really enjoyed the feel and friendliness of the place. Also a very unique building, not cookie cutter like most stays. One minor complaint was that there was no coffee or maker in the room which is odd. Also, the room was kind of cold because the air was coming through the air conditioner and it was 48 degrees and windy. We got the radiator going which heped but if we didn't accidentally find a space heater in the closet (we should have been told about this) we would have been pretty cold. Overall though, we really enjoyed ourselves.
- Sheryl (4/5): - Booked Deluxe Double Room, City View (2 Queen Beds)
Received: 1 Queen Bed. 1 single cot, w/blanket thrown on top of it. No top sheet.
Floor was dirty.
Went to the front desk to speak about room - told that they didn't have what i booked - and only got my reservation that day. Said there was nothing they could do.
When i went back to the room abd checked the cot out - I niticed, there was no top sheet, only the thin blanket that looked thrown on top. In fact the cit looked like it had been taken from a storage closet and set up as an afterthought.
When i returned downstairs to mentiin there was only a thin blanket, the woman couldn't have cared less. I asked that a top sheet be brouggt up & the cot made ip. She said she'd find someone.
When we returned from supper, she had a sheet waiting for me "to do it". I said, youd like a paying guest to make up my own cot - although I ought to be in a queen bed? She just looked at me.
I ended up sharing a bed with the person i was traveling with.
While i was headed to the elevator, sheet in hand she called out how the top sheet was "tucked under".
It wasn't.
When we left for the concert i made a point of telling her in fact there wasn't a top sheet & that it was ridiculous for me to pay for a room with two beds and instead get a cot, not have that acknowledged until i asked about it - not even have the cit made up & presented like they tried their best.
The floor was dirty (sticky mud by the cot).
