- Jenni (8/5): - It was a good distance to the pier and all the tourists stops. It felt safe for parking with the gate closed at night. Free parking was amazing. Thank you! The room could have used a dresser or small closet to unpack our suit cases. Or at least some hangers to hang up shirts Overall it was a good experience.
- Olivia (10/5): - It was an easy 25min walk into Fishermans Wharf amd Peir 39, pass parklands and the beach and cable car. Also could catch bus, need a Clippercard to use bus or correct cash. Parking onsite was handy. Great had a fridge and they made our beds and fresh towels each day. Adequate space for 2 kids a d 2 adults. We got a good price for booking early.

- Santiago (4/5): - It was a good room, it was a pretty nice location, but it was awful the service of the two person, they were no help at all. I know we arrive early than check in, but also we had a baby and we expected more help from them.

Parking was great because we have a pickup and had no issues. Front desk was very welcoming coming in and pleasant while checking out! Will be back for sure, my husband has monthly visits to the UCSF..

- Kelly (10/5): Fantastic hotel with everything we needed - This was a great motel kind of in the middle of everything we needed. We had rented a car and came in very late after a concert (our reason for going to SF) and there were still places to park. Also, the lot is very secure with only two entrances from the street so nobody is likely to be randomly walking through unless they purposely turn in to the property. The rooms were pretty quiet and the only time I heard the street was when an emergency vehicle was going through with sirens on. The room was very clean, and housekeeping even came through during our two-night stay and swapped out our towels with clean ones. The setup of the room was also cool with a little sitting area on the side. The AC was top notch and we kept it around 68 when we were sleeping, which was perfect. The front desk guy was very polite with a smile to greet us. It was a wonderful motel overall that was quite affordable compared to the other properties at the time, especially given the security and parking available. I'll defintely be looking at this one if we come back to SF!

- Kelly (8/5): - Would stay here again. Great location in Marina District, free parking, daily turn down service. We requested a room towards the back away from Lombard St and it was quiet enough. Cute property. Couple of things that I wish they would improve - there is a sensor on the bathroom light so it turns on anytime someone walks in. if you get up in the middle of the night the bright lights of the bathroom are in full force - also the sensor does not sense motion in the shower so if you are in there too long the lights turn off and you are showering in the dark. The windows have cute shutters in them but they are not great at keeping out light so be prepared with an eye mask if needed. Overall we enjoyed our stay and if we are back in San Francisco would check it out again

This is an amazing place just a few blocks from Fort Mason where you can walk to in the morning for an incredible view of the Golden Gate (fog permitting), Alcatraz, and the SF Bay

This made the bathroom design inconvenient since there was no counter space or anywhere to set toiletries or any belongings. Also, the ac in the room did not work. - Rusty (8/5): Nice Stay - This place met our needs for an overnight visit prior to a medical procedure at UCSF the following day. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The property has been renovated. The room is small but functional. There is street noise that management has no control over. We read past reviews and brought ear plugs to help eliminate the problem. Room has a large flat screen smart TV with streaming options such as Netflix. Parking is free and plentiful which is a huge plus especially in SF.

- William A (10/5): Exactly what we needed. - Our stay was only for one night. If you aren't looking for big frills and such, its a very safe and comfortalble alternative. It's relatively close to "all the action" in San Francisco without being loud or massive. Accomodations are more modest but in a place with so much to do and see where one is unlikely to be hanging around all day in their room, that makes it quite ideal. If you're looking for pampering and all sort of services, Star Motel isn't for you. If you're looking to visit San Francisco and have a clean, affordable, safe lodging option that is conveniently located near so much great stuff in the city (as we were), then Star Motel is fantastic. Also, the "retro" theme was kind of fun.
- Guinevere (8/5): - The room was really nice and very clean. The property was newly renovated, and they did an excellent job on the interior design. The exterior areas were really nicely maintained. I think housekeeping forgot to clean the shower (there was a used bar of soap in there). The coffee station in the room had not been replenished with regular coffee. The AC wasn’t working, but it was an easy fix by pressing reset button on the plug.

- Lori (4/5): Meh - The Lombard St motels are hit and miss, and this was a miss for us. It is conveniently located close to food & shopping, all within walking distance. This motel also offers free parking, a plus on Lombard. But its design is older, and allows for a lot of the street noise to be heard in the rooms. When we checked in at 4, we were given the room right over the office next to the street. I asked for another and was told none were available. Clerk said- you won’t hear the traffic, there is no window over the street. True, but we had to listen to the office door slamming closed all night long. There was a coffee maker in the room, but no coffee. Hubby went downstairs to office to get some to prepare in the room, but they wouldn’t give him any. Instead they had coffee made there in the office for guests, something they didn’t tell us at check-in. We also encountered a gentleman who was also unhappy with the room he had been given. Turns out he booked the same type of room and checked in later than us, but was given another room at check in, when we were not. Crappy service. Also, because of the age of this place, there are issues that the renovation didn’t address. If you look at the pics, you’ll see the gaps around the door. The frame is crooked, and this let in so much noise, light, and cold air. I tried stuffing towels in the gaps, but it didn’t help much. I don’t think we’ll be staying at this place again.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Could have been 5 stars… - Star Motel is newly remolded and very clean. If not for a bad experience I had, I would give it a full 5 stars. As for the bad experience… After booking this for a 3 night stay our plans changed. I went through the process of making the changes immediately- still a month before our stay. For reasons I don’t understand, the first reservation was not cancelled. So when I arrived, we had 2 rooms in our name. The guy running the front desk said I would have to come back the next day during a 3 hour window when the manager would be there. However, I had a commitment that could not be changed during said 3 hour window. I called Hotels.com who attempted to reach out several times but never got anyone to answer. I never even received keys to the 2nd room. I understand this is a small business, but customer service goes a VERY long way. I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to a friend.

The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms and floors are extremely clean. If you can get a good price - book it. Better than the surrounding motels. If you want comfort…. Look elsewhere.

Wanted location that was midway and walkable for all the major spots- GG park to pier 39, Chinatown, Ferry Building, etc. Star Motel blew us away with the upgraded rooms, ample FREE parking spots, location, and flexibility for our check-out needs. 100% would recd to friends and stay again. We were in room 208- corner upstairs room- and loved it. Mini fridge, AC, new showers, sky light, and more. Loved our stay!

I would recommend this to anyone looking to stay in SF, whether it be a short solo trip or a longer family excursion. Also, free parking is pretty awesome. I need to circle back to these beds, they are seriously so incredible. I absolutely slept like a rock. I love this bed so much, I am buying one for my new apartment.

Our room was the perfect size for two people and very stylish. The room, bed(bed was very comfy) and bathroom were very clean. Hotel is centrally located in the city and walkable to fort mason, Ghirardelli square and fisherman’s wharf/pier 39. (Between 15-30 min walking). Would highly recommend this property.

- Shruti (8/5): - It’s a newly renovated property with modern look and feel. Clean and hygienic room. Conveniently located to the shops and tourist spots. The room is decent sized with modern flat screen TV, AC, refrigerator and other stuff. It’s a good room for solo traveler or a couple but not much for a family with kids. 1. There’s no closet in the room just a ln open space with a few hangers. 2. There’s no microwave if you want to warm up the milk it food for the kids. Overall a nice property with just a few things missing. They should also add a few more hooks or towel bars in the bathroom for convenience.

We stayed in room 118 which was at front by main road so was noisy from traffic but room was super large to compensate. We did so much walking that by time went to bed it didn’t bother us. Beds were super king size and comfortable
- Abigail (8/5): - Overall we had a good stay. It has been renovated recently and the rooms are nice. The staff was very nice. There was however a few issues which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5. The toilet is incredibly close to the vanity so if you’re a larger person it can be a bit uncomfortable. The lock on the room also malfunctioned which was a bit inconvenient. The door had gaps and we could see the light coming through which also let in the noise from the parking lot. But there was a mini fridge which was great. We were able to walk fairly close and get a great view of the firework show. Also there was plenty of parking, which is included. Overall a good stay.

The only reason I can't give this 5-stars is that the lights in the bathroom were on a motion detector. Meaning that if you get up in the middle of the night to use the facilities, you're going to get blinded by the light.

- Romy (8/5): - Die Unterkunft war sehr praktisch gelegen. Man konnte zu Fuß zur Fisherman's Wharf, zum kurvigen Teil der Lombardstreet aber auch die Union Street mit vielen Restaurants schnell erreichen. Sehr gut war auch die kostenlose Parkmöglichkeit. Einziger Nachteil beim Buchen des Deluxe Doppelzimmers: es ist sehr sehr laut, da die Fenster direkt zur Lombardstreet rausgehen. Nach einem Gespräch mit der Rezeption liegt dies an der Zimmerkategorie. Vom Deluxe Doppelzimmer gibt es nur eines wurde uns gesagt und das ist zur Straße raus. Alle anderen Zimmer hatten die Fenster zum Innenhof, wo es sicherlich leiser war. Also besser nicht diese Kategorie wählen, wenn man es leiser haben möchte. Das Zimmer an sich war schön groß mit 2 getrennten Schlafbereichen und Badezimmer in der Mitte. Kaffee, Tee und Kakao konnte man sich morgens an der Rezeption auch aus dem Automaten holen

I did the research one by one hotel and all of them charge you…I’ll save you time book it. And the amenities smell delicious, shampoo, body wash, etc. For me it’s a 10! Thank you so much!

- Ian (8/5): - The rooms were clean and the motel is in a good location. Best of all, there was plenty of parking. The rooms were smaller than I had anticipated. On reflection, I thought that the accomodation was a little overpriced.
- Diana (10/5): - Great facility in a great location. Rooms were updated and clean, easy check-in and easy free parking! Will book here again!
- Juliann (10/5): Hidden Gem - This hotel is great. Easy check-in with great service. Room was newly renovated, cute, and very clean. Beds were comfortable. Location was perfect for our needs and parking was free and secure. There was a little noise during the night but nothing too bothersome. Would definitely stay here again.
- Rosio (10/5): - Truly enjoyed my stay. Walking distance to so many things. Clean motel and staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay there again.
- Kimi (8/5): - Staff very polite and extremely helpful. Room well decorated and clean. Shower water was not hot enough though and room felt cramped.
- Christie (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Star Motel. The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming, the rooms have been updated in a beautiful modern deco style, and the location was central to many activities during our time in San Francisco.
- Savannah (10/5): - This is a very clean and adorable motel in a great area! The bed was comfortable, and you can tell everything had been recently remodeled. The staff were very friendly! The neighborhood was spotless and charming, quite nice to walk around in and lots of nearby options for coffee and food. Loved the free parking as well and I wasn’t concerned about leaving my car there at all. I wish more motels were run as well as this one!
