Guest Reviews
- Ewan (4/5): - A used sheet outside the door. The window had a gun shot break on outside glass which affected the noise. Kettle cup & tea spoon in the room but not tea/coffee milk in the room because "We don't don't do that any more". Good to know beforehand would be nice.
- Campbell (8/5): - All good for the price you pay ,only fault was no coffee to go with the kettle
- Kirsten (4/5): - The hotel felt unsafe for a solo female traveller. The rooms were accessed via a pin code and there was no deadlock on the door. The room was not clean with rubbish strewn under the bed and the carpets did not appear to have been hoovered anywhere. The room had a dirty smell.
- S (8/5): - With the very good reduced price this was good value for money but wouldnt have payed full price.
- Bilal (6/5): Second stay - Second time staying here. Room was very spacious and so was bathroom. There was no chair in the room to sit at the table so i pulled the sofa forward and there was quite a bit of mess underneath it, so not the cleanest. The matress was bit more comfortable this time because they layed matress topper down, so it didn't feel springy this time. The hair dryer was broken and was giving off a burning smell. I left a piece of clothing behind but staff have not seen it, they said they'd let me know if it turns up. A few reminders. You have to pay for parking. There is no coffee or tea in the room although there is a kettle and cups.
- Dominic (10/5): - Does what it says on the tin at an extremely good price.
- Jan (6/5): - Was given a pass key . When went into the room . It was already occupied. Just so glad the people in that room was not there.
- Sam (4/5): - As soon as i entered the car park (the downstairs one like an abandoned place) the receptionist was helpful and friendly. The room was not cleaned from previous use because there were food crumbs on the floor and the bed. There was no teabags nor coffee available. The tea cups were not washed. The kettle was rusted! It
- Bevin (4/5): - Smoking on premises and very loud. They advertise public parking but you do have to pay. At about 0600 the fire alarm went off which was a false alarm. Huge nuisance! The towels had incense on them which made them oily, stained & dirty. The fan was covered in dust. It would be a great place if they would clean up around the outside building, not charge for their ridiculously oversized parking lot & cleaned up the rooms. The smoking being allowed in the hallways is unacceptable as well.
- Bilal (6/5): Be aware - Room was a decent size, clean and easily accessible from car park. Unfortunately you have to pay for parking. Matress wasnt that comfortable you could feel the springs. There was no kettle in room when i arrived so i had to ask the service desk for one. There's not much point in asking for the kettle because there is no tea, coffee or milk given. Just a kettle an 2 empty cups. The shower head holder was broken so you had to hold the shower head by hand. Disappointed, especially since it was an ex-holiday inn hotel.
- Susan (8/5): Fantastic Value - For the price we paid it was excellent value, we just needed a bed for the night so didnt explore the hotel. Bedroom basic, but bed was comfy & room clean. Would definitely recommend & stay again if up in Aberdeen
- Eglee (2/5): - I booked this for my wife and daughter to stay two nights. They checked in, and after seeing the state of the rooms, decided to leave.
The whole hotel looks like it hasn't been cleaned in ages, and the rooms were particularly filthy. Bed sheets obviously not clean, with stains and hairs.
Sadly, Expedia hasn't been able to get in contact with the hotel, so we're not even getting the refund!
- Mark (10/5): - Great value
- Stevie (10/5): Very good. - The hotel was very good for the price and I also was given a free upgrade.
- Laura (6/5): - You do really get what you paid for. If only the looked after the grounds in the carpark, greeted you warmly, even just hoovered the rooms carpet and cleaned the hair out the shower. (I much I refuse to use. it would have been value for money. Window is screwed shut in room. You can see the bed its self is well maintained. I won’t be back. Did not feel comfortable in this hotel at all.
- Yazan (4/5): - I wont be staying here again! I should have read the reviews before.
The hotel is a salvaged holiday inn, with the owners trying their best to keep the facade.
The room was okay a few carpet stains here and there and the bathroom was clean, the bed was not comfy and although the covers/pillow covers were clean you can see the worn out dirty pillows underneath. By far the worst thing is the shower and sink, it took 5 minutes of the tap open to get hot water and the result was yellow water that filled the basin and bath tub with sand and dirt. Also, if you have a problem dont expect to be able to reach anyone including reception in the hotel, they do not answer phone calls. As I was walked to my room in a different building there was a women waiting for an hour and a half in the hotel lobby trying to reach the hotel (please be aware that even though there is a reception desk in both buildings only one is used).
- David (8/5): - Good value
- Hunter (10/5): - No air conditioning, staff doesn't speak English well
- Craig (8/5): - You can see small changes but still a lot of holiday inn stuff. You get what you pay for will use again as only somewhere to sleep 👍
- Ifeanyi (8/5): - I like the hotel
- Cameron (8/5): Ok budget stay - Was clean when we arrived, towels and sheets were all clean - room was basic, was blackout blinds and a big smart tv, air con wasn't working but had 2 fans which was fine and had both on as was hot - but was also warm outside.
No room service on our 3 night stay though, didn't really need it but most hotels do it regardless so is a little odd. Water pressure is awful, shower is more of a fast trickle but water was hot.
Had kettle, mugs and glasses but no coffee.
- Andy (8/5): Minimal but Comfortable! - I stayed at this 3-star hotel and honestly, it was great for what I needed. The room was super minimal—no unnecessary stuff, just clean lines and a calm vibe. But even with the simple setup, it was really comfortable. The bed was cozy, the space felt fresh, and everything just worked.
It’s not trying to be fancy, but that’s kind of the point. It’s quiet, relaxing, and easy. The staff were friendly and helpful without hovering. If you’re into a clean, no-fuss place that still feels really good to stay in, this is it.
- Gail (4/5): - The room was too hot and stuffy and the temperature could not be adjusted . The was a pad to adjust temp but it did not work .
I Slept terribly
The WiFi did not work all of the time .
No tea and coffee in the room , a kettle and cups but tea, sugar milk had to go buy my own, carting in a carton of milk just to have a cuppa tea . I was told management have decided to stop putting teabags sugar etc in room
Last but not least they have started charging for parking in the hotel at park
I will. It be staying there again
Terrible
- Nicola (8/5): Close to many attractions, dog friendly, reasonabl - The hotels location we thought was great, close to many attractions both in and out of the city centre.
£5 parking we didn't think was awful at all, especially for a big city and had no issue getting a space when we were in and out.
£5 per dog was a big factor in us booking because it was cheaper than others in the area and we really appreciated this!
The room was very clean, housekeeping do a great job. Smelled lovely and looked clean also.
It is very basic though, so definitely not the hotel if your wanting lots of amenities but if your looking for somewhere more to just sleep and wash etc it's great.
They have a kettle in the room but they don't actually provide tea or coffee as we asked.
There is a small hairdryer in the room, but if you need an iron you need to take your clothes to the ironing room and do it there. It wasn't a big deal and was still handy to have the use of.
Comfort wise, the mattress wasn't great wasn't terrible either was just ok but the pillows and covers were comfy.
Our check in was great and quick and the man on reception was very welcoming.
We didn't eat on the hotel so can't comment on that but could recommend some local activities that we thoroughly enjoyed!
Overall would definitely use again for location, parking and dog friendly when we are watching my families dogs.
- Alan (8/5): - The staff were all friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. It was a shame that the car park was so cluttered with rubbish. We would definitely stay again.
- Paul (2/5): - I would avoid this place at all costs, it’s a million miles away from a Hilton Express (ex). The staff might as well not be there, ate and drank out as no one dined in the restaurant. Room although spacious are very dated and lacks any basic comfort.
- Na (8/5): - Pros - Room was specious and quiet. Bed was comfortable. Had all the things we needed. Good breakfast. Plenty of parking slots.
Cons- Air conditioning not working but given the weather in Scotland, it was not a big problem. Bathroom smelled cigarette. Hotel name had not been changed.
- Martin (4/5): - Given room with window not opening and aircon throughout the hotel off. Given a second room where the handle on the window was broken. Moved to third room with functional window but double bed instead of twin. Bed very uncomfortable.
- David (4/5): - Needed a place to stay for a night. We pulled into the lower parking lot, which had a sketchy, post-apocalyptic look and feel. Upper parking lot and main entrance were fine. The check-in was disastrous. The first room we were given could not, apparently, be opened by anyone due to a second, key pad lock above the standard key lock. Then we were given another room. I marched my tired family up to the third floor to find that the room was not a double. I had to go downstairs, leaving my family sitting with our luggage, to get the room we had paid for. The staff guy issued us a third card and came up with us. The third room had a bed and a made-up hide-a-bed as the second bed. Not the double we had ordered, but we took it so we could finally lay down. At no point did either of the front desk staff apologize for any of the chaos.
After that, the stay was average. Bathroom wasn’t clean to an appropriate standard, but not filthy.
It seemed like the hotel was still in transition from a Holiday Inn to the new owners. Perhaps it will improve over time.
- Jerry (6/5): Very cheap, but for a reason… - The best choice of words to describe my stay was adequate. For the price, I wasn’t expecting luxury but I was expecting cleanliness. My bathroom was grubby and smelled (of pee) The main room was also grubby and the bed, was too soft for my own personal taste. The hotel offers no facilities for food / drink and the nearest shop is quite a way away. Cat park was full of litter and several young people appeared to be using it as a playground on their bikes.
Unlike some reviewers have said, I don’t think the hotel is ‘pretending to be a Holiday Inn’. The hotel has clearly changed hands and the signage hasn’t been removed. If you don’t mind a sparsely furnished room, grubby bathroom and no facilities, then this place is good for you. If you want something more, stay somewhere else.
Comment to Management. If you want to make this venture work, improve cleanliness within the hotel, provide a little more by way of facilities / food etc. and put up your prices a bit.
- Elizabeth (2/5): Filthy rooms, nice staff - The room was filthy. The bed had bugs in. I booked for 6 nights stayed for 1 because I got there lin the evening but left in the morning. I've taken a video and photos. Have asked for a refund...I will update as it goes
- Vatsal (2/5): - The hotel room was way below the expectations. No AC in the room and terrible cleanliness.
- Cassandra (4/5): Too hot - The entrance on lower ground was full of cigarette butts and smelt strongly of smoke. Check in was simple and fast, got into room as was hit by very hot, humid air, had fan on, window doesn’t open, no air-con, unbearably hot.
- Sujaul (2/5): Wouldn’t stay here for free. - I understand it’s a budget hotel but I wouldn’t even pay what I did for what I got. The AC system in the room was broken, the handle for the window in the room was removed so I couldn’t even open it to let some cool air in. The room and bathroom had a nasty sewage smell which again couldn’t be aired out as the window handle was removed to prevent customers opening the window. The room, bedding and bathroom were all dirty and filthy. The room had no telephone to call reception about the issues so you have to physically go back downstairs to speak to them. Even the pedal bins in the room were all broken. The shower head was covered in pink bacteria.
- Eric (6/5): - On arrival the Reception was nearly in darkness but was met with a smile .accommodation was clean and well laid out with towel and toiletries. Overall accommodation was good .sadly was a bit disappointed that there was NO BAR facilities , Breakfast was also disappointed food was cold as all lids where open leaving the breakfast to be cold and not edible, When entering the dining room there was none there, i had to go to the corner and shout for the chef who came out and we asked him for fresh food, the only thing he brought out was some fresh sausages and 3 fried eggs. So for a full English breakfast at £9.99 was absolutely disgusting, we refused to pay that price for a breakfast that was stone cold and hardly anything on offer, Totally unacceptable.
- Theresa (6/5): - The staff were helpful and it was clean.
- Jones (4/5): - The bathroom had a horrible horrible smell
- M T (10/5): - Confortable beds good for 1 or 2 nights when passing by Aberdeen
- AMARESAN (10/5): - Well maintained, staff were helpful
- Kabir (8/5): Parking Expensive - Hotel Good Value - The hotel was as expected for the money. Budget friendly, very clean, tidy and typical size, amenities, fresh towels, ensuite, etc. Room was good, although I couldn't get the air con to work. I did have a little USB travel fan - so no big deal. Very comfy room and the blackout curtains allowed me to sleep in till 9am despite sunrise about 4am!
The vegetarian breakfast is a bit limited considering the cost is the same as the non-veg. Was close proximity to Aberdeen centre. £10 parking is expensive, when there's a park and ride you can use for free within 3-5 minutes walk. This probably explains why the hotel car park was almost empty. I think if it was £2-£3 per night, most customers would park here for the convenience. They have 100+ parking, so this surely would generate more revenue than an empty car park with only 5 cars on there, charged at £10?
- lisa (4/5): - The room smelled the kids room had a mouse, no A/C, there is potential to make it nice and they did just open so hopefully they will build on what they started.
- Kevin (10/5): - Great value. Looks like its been recently renovated as it is in excellent condition. Parking in the hotel car park is quite expensive (£10/night) considering its nowhere near the city centre, however we parked in the park and ride next door for free which had plenty space.
- Andy (8/5): - For the price a great hotel. Few improvements needed like shower head seemed broken and a few cosmetic touches but overall it was great value.
- David (6/5): - Not the best breakfast I’ve had
Rooms we were allocated had not been cleaned
Shower leaked at wall no pressure at rose
- Steven (8/5): - It was fine rooms clean and bed comfy not much more you can ask for the price
- Makiki (10/5): - Nice room
- Craig (8/5): - Was good for the price. And easy to get into Aberdeen
- kylie (10/5): - Would stay again lovely place
- Linda (2/5): Misleading listing - not holiday inn express !! - Booked this hotel by accident and didn't stay there but contacted them the day after booking to cancel but they bluntly refused to refund payment despite hotels.com intervening on our behalf. Even explaining that we are pensioners and that the property was too far out of city for us to walk was dismissed. Don't stay here !!
- Natasha (10/5): - Was just a base to sleep. Lovely staff and clean room. Beds comfy so it was everything we needed
- Richard C. (10/5): - Attractive pricing of rooms. Helpful check in staff. Comfortable room.
- Andrena (10/5): - This property was amazing very good value
- Stephanie (4/5): Awful!! - Check in only between 3pm and 8pm although person on desk all night? Arrived and got checked in no problem. Came back later and entered room. Window was broken in an open position, room was freezing. Returned to reception to ask for alternative. Room 2 allocated. Upon entering, room was freezing and popped card in for lights… no lights or heating! Security latch also broken! Returned to reception to ask for a third room. Fire alarm went off, allegedly from a non-functioning kitchen. Room 3 allocated. Sub standard! Please see pictures. Dirty marks on units, hairs in the bed, holes in linen! Not a restful sleep. Never again… and we had to pay for parking!!!
- Michael (8/5): Work stay - Amazing value for money. Will definitely return
- Zhora (8/5): Great stay - A pleasant trip would come again
- Derek (10/5): - Nice a quite hotel. Friendly staff and comfortable bed. Perfect
- Helen (10/5): - Room was really good and spacious was a great place to stay would come back again
- Verified traveler (2/5): The worst hotel - The first room was extremely hot because they had an oil radiator on full as the air con system was not working. I was dripping in sweat as a result. There was no means of opening a window and they provided a desktop fan that was not very good and very noisy.
I was then given another room. Unfortunately this room had dirty underwear in the shower room so I was given a third room.
The hairdryer in this room (now my 3rd!) went on fire when I went to use it, fortunately I did not get burned. There was then a lot of acrid black smoke from the plastic and surprisingly the smoke alarm did not go off.
They removed the hairdryer and provided another, but left all the tools in the room along with a can of air fresher. However they had not serviced the room.
The key pass did not work and every time I would try it, I would have to go back down to the service desk to get it reset. This was irritating and annoying given I had been tired each day.
- Gerard (4/5): - We booked six rooms. One room the toilet was still full of human waste, another room was occupied by a smoking member of staff another wasn't cleaned empty crisp packets under the bed. Not good at all
- Zane (2/5): - A shell of a hotel. Room still had trash in the bin from the previous guests and there was no toilet paper. Avoid this place as best you can.
- Alasdair (10/5): - Standard HIE at discount price. A bit out of town but still a bargain!
- Graham (6/5): Good price but will not return - Price good but hotel in need of refurbishment. Lots of damage to floors sinks and furniture
- Verified traveler (4/5): Give this one a miss. Dirty - The building is outdated.
The entry is not easy to find and less than welcoming.
Staff on the desk did minimal to check me in. No one on the desk at check out.
The room had an unusual smell.
The heating didn't work although there was a heater to use.
The room didn't appear that clean with greasy marks on the bedside table and ring marks on the desk.
The glasses and mugs were not clean.
The bathroom floor had dirty foot prints before I entered, the bin lid was broken, there were no toiletries in the wall mounted dispensers, there was half a toilet roll and no spare.
The security catch on the room door had been removed.
I travel a lot for business and have booked into some less than ideal properties but this ranks among the worst.
- Glen (10/5): Great stay great value - Excellent stop at the former Holiday inn( still signed up as Holiday inn express) but all was very good , great value for money plenty of hot water and tea and coffee,
- Cheryl (10/5): - The staff were amazing and helpful. The property was a good place to be in, especially for a family. The company is in the process of upgrading their new purchase, and are doing a fine job.
I would suggest having small fridges and a microwave in the rooms, and real cups. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay.
Many thanks to staff!
- James Fraser (8/5): Great value - A lovely budget hotel with amazing staff…extremely friendly and helpful..issues with the keycard entry to the room but eventually sorted and no other problems..would recommend as near to fast food eateries etc and not too far from main roads and city…
- Damian (8/5): - Holiday inn express on a run down. But it's quality for the price.
TV channels required though please
- Damian (10/5): - You guys could work on getting TV channels in please
- Dominic (2/5): - To be fair to the one member of staff I actually saw he was polite and helpful. I decided not to bother him about the room, as every time I saw him he seemed to be already dealing with a dissatisfied guest! The hotel is confusingly still branded prominently as a Holiday Inn Express, and fitted out much as one. It should be of a reasonable standard, but seems to be desperately short of staff. This clearly extends to housekeeping. While the room had clearly been done and the bed was well made there was a lack of attention to detail and the room was quite grotty. The most egregious things being that the toilet seat was not clean and that the cups provided had tea marks and a hair stuck to them!
The 6am fire alarm, seemingly due to a defective call point was the icing on the cake…
- fiona (4/5): Great parking - The hotel is nice, clean and lots of space. Unfortunately our mattress was paper thin, only one pillow each that was very flat. Our tv didnt work at all. We contacted reception who gave us extra pillows and made it so we could watch netflix on our own account. The hotel is dog friendly so it was lovely too see all the dogs. No vending machine or coffee machines etc. However there is a kettle and tea/coffee in the rooms. We were told there was a mcdonalds 5 mins away. Loads of parking too. Reception were friendly but you can only exit thru reception you have to enter from the lower floor. Im led to believe its new ownership so they will probably need a bit of time to get things fully up to spec. Overall an ok hotel for the price.
- Mark (2/5): - No food available, bar closed . Felt like we were in a migrant hotel.
