Guest Reviews
- Stephen (10/5): - Spa and leisure facilities fabulous, room was lovely but needed a fridge
- Zachary (8/5): - Lovely quiet and pretty area. The hotel was lovely and would stay again.
- Philip (10/5): - Lovely quiet location, super handy for the airport. Warm welcome from the host. Super clean room, funky decor,
comfy bed. Small touches like fresh milk in the in-room fridge, water and biscuits make all the difference. A lovely change from a “hotel”. Definitely would stay again. Thank you!
- Ian (10/5): - Excellent and relaxing place to stay. You can walk out of the hotel and climb a Wainwright, then return for a relaxing time in the Spa. Staff are really friendly and professional.
- Miss Annabel (10/5): - Staff all so friendly and helpful. Beautiful grounds. Lovely room. Excellent breakfast.
- Richard (10/5): - Great over night stay with fantastic facilities and friendly, knowledgeable staff
- Rakesh (10/5): - Amazing grounds and rooms are very nice too.. only down side was limited food menu due to restaurant being under refurbishment
- Dolly (10/5): - Nice surroundings friendly staff, clean and comfortable
- George (10/5): - Great setting with lots of local walks.
Lovely dining area with great food and breakfast.
Found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
- Roger (10/5): The Place to stay in the Lake District - This Hotel has great grounds to wonder around a beautiful Restaurant and a pub down the road our stay was fantastic.
- Iain (10/5): Great hotel, located in a lovely part of the Lakes - Ideal base for sight seeing and walking .
Staff were very friendly and most helpful.
Used the Stove a couple of times and the food was great, didn't use the spa as we decided to get out and about and sight see.
Will definitely be going back.
- NewMrs (10/5): Relaxing hotel for honeymoon break - We stayed at the Langdale for our minimoon in the Lakes. The room was spacious and comfortable with a great shower! The Stove restaurant served quality food and had a large selection at breakfast including pancakes, killers and the full English amongst others, with friendly staff and servers. We particularly enjoyed and would recommend the Brimstone Spa, we had a couples massage and spent all afternoon using the thermal facilities which were really relaxing in the most beautiful surroundings!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing - Great stay, staff all friendly and helpful. Steam and sauna area could do with refreshing but still more than acceptable.
- Steve (4/5): Lovely hotel in teh Southern lakes - The hotel is situated in a beautiful part of the lake district with many close attractions to visit and is excellently placed for a walking holiday. The rooms are spacious and the grounds between the different building of the hotel are beautiful. The dinner in the restaurant was excellent especially the shared pork roast. The breakfast was good but the service at both meals was not as good as you would expect form a restaurant of this quality and cost. The swimming pool and gym were very good. there is an excellent well price pub within close walking distant. Overall a very enjoyable stay
- Barbara (10/5): Hotel suited our needs and matched our expectation - A very positive and good experience. We will return.
- jane (8/5): gorgeous location, good facilities, expensive - Room was comfortable with several helpful additions (eg umbrellas, decent glasses, great Wi-fi). Staff dealt promptly with a maintenance issue (badly leaking radiator) and changed our room efficiently. Rooms are not cheap and you are paying a premium for the great location and spa/swimming facilities. Restaurant much better than it used to be, good breakfast, but still very easy to clock up a hefty bill if you eat there for other meals.
- Gareth (10/5): Superb! - Outstanding hotel in great location. Extremely efficient staff all round. Wish we were there longer but will definitely be returning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We spent a week at Langdale and really enjoyed the laid back style with a modern twist. The scenery and setting are amazing. The Stove is an excellent place to eat. Our only comment is that the service is really variable, but overall good.
- Carolyn (10/5): Wonderful, totally relaxed - This hotel is amazing and we will definitely be back! I have never felt so relaxed in my life:)
The room we had was really clean and we had a complimentary bottle of wine as there was some building working going on near the restaurant but this didn't at all affect our stay!
The bath we had was lush:) and little things like paper and a pencil, an iron, ironing board and tissues in the room were appreciated. Breakfast was very nice, very well presented buffet and a wide range of things to suit everyone.
We booked in for treatments which were great and then headed over to the spa. Really clean and I felt very comfortable:)
Thank you for a brilliant stay!
- Mark (10/5): Summer night away - Night spent at Langdale in a large modern comfortable room, air bath was a nice surprise and bed very comfortable. Staff from moment we arrived were helpful and attentive. Good was reasonably priced and delicious neither of us could finish out generously sized portions. Spa was one of the best I've been too and we will be back.
- Jonathan (8/5): Lovely place - Very nice. Lovely hotel on a beautiful location. Great food and facilities
- Richard (10/5): Will definitely return - Faultless from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Lovely surroundings. Well maintained. Great food. 10/10!
- bee (8/5): stay at langdale - hotel was nice staff were friendly room was smaller than expected but clean and comfortable. Restaurant was exceptional staff were great polite helpful and friendly food was amazing quality and quantity would definitely stay again
- Jonathan (10/5): You do get what you pay for... - We stayed as a family of 3 couples and used the leisure facilities and restaurant, both of which we would rate highly. The rooms are not cheap relative to other places, but you get what you pay for, and this was excellent. Staff attitude and service was really top-notch.
- H (10/5): Excellent place to relax - The hotel is in the middle of nowhere its a 20 min drive to get to a nearest town! This place is ideal for those who like secluded areas! I absolutely loved this place it was had amazing views! i did not mind the small trek to the nearest town! Highly recommend to all! Had a restaurant/spa that was amazing! Complimentary breakfast included a big selection of foods. Staff were very friendly and accommadating! Thankyou for making this experience great!
- Clare (8/5): Cosy retreat - The grounds and the room where fantastic. The newly refurbished restraunt looked amazing and brilliant atmosphere to. The staff all though lovey could have been a little more attentive, just little things like offering drinks when glasses are empty and taking the empty glasses away. Other than that a brilliant stay and would definitely go back.
- Cindy (10/5): Langdale Spa Hotel - Informed well in advance that the spa are was being renovated and given the choice to cancel, glad we didn't. Arrived and was pleased with the lovely touch of a bottle of wine in our room waiting for us as an apology and we were also given a discount off the nightly cost. Only slight issue was lack of parking but everything else we couldn't fault, excellent service, great location for Ambleside/ Windermere and Kendal.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Well situated for visiting Dove Cottage and Hill - Well situated to visit William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter homes
- Andy (8/5): - Had a great room with an extra large comfy bed , quality bedding , large spacious bathroom . Spa facilities were good and nice & clean . Only downside was the limited onsite eating facilities due to refurbishment . There are two pubs close by serving good food and drink . We tried them both .
Hotel is in a great location for peace & quiet with plenty of walking in the surrounding area . We were unfortuneately "watered" in due to Desmond .
We were unfortunately unable to get out and about in the surrounding area due to the weather conditions ( Storm Desmond ) . We were unable to depart due to the weather and were given a free nights stay. Staff kept us well informed of road/weather conditions before we departed .
Will have no qualms about returning to this hotel . Would recommend it .
- TANG (10/5): Best hotel in Lake District - Rly amazing hotel
Fantastic facilities
- John (10/5): Great stay with two caveats - Lovely spa, pool and sauna. Excellent food and nice bar. Great pub just a quarter mile down the road. Lovely hike to Grasmere nearby. Only two minor negatives: the wifi was very spotty in our room and the "king" bed is really a queen at best by American standards. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms were noisy and dinner at purdys is very over priced for the quality.
- KAREN (8/5): - Lovely comfortable accommodation
Second visit there and hope to go back
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice room but very hot and stuffy, left window open for fresh air but disturbed by noisy staff in accomodation opposite our room.
- robert (8/5): - Good and friendly staff and very helpful
- lynn (8/5): Lovely hotel beautiful surroundings - Excellent hotel beautiful surroundings. Would recommend it to our family and friends.
- Richard (8/5): Good stay - Good stay - would recommend
- Verified traveler (8/5): My opinion - Very comfortable stay
Only one complaint and that was terrace Resteraunt bar area was dirty and very unclean
On the one occasion we visited it
But every other aspect of the hotel was first class
- jayne marie (10/5): Lovely surroundings - Lovely spacious room , spa bath :) , great breakfast, good choice of eating places on site.
- Lee (8/5): Nice but still slightly disappointed. - On the surface this is a very nice hotel in a fabulous location and with amazing grounds, however over the course of our stay there were clear signs that this was not a really top hotel, yet, still a good one.
The rooms were decorated to a very good spec with many of the amenities you would require. However the WIFI in the room we stayed in (125) was nothing but appalling for this day and age; difficult to find any signal most of the time. The bed while huge was actually not very comfortable but this could be afforded to personal taste. The shower while fantastic was liable to flood the floor each time we used it.
The hotel staff were very good, always professional yet friendly. The restaurant staff however were less so and it was obvious which few were experienced and who were not so. It must be said, we could not fault the food which was always to a very good standard.
With a relatively late checkin time, it meant that time in the Spa was also limited to peak/close-to-peak times, also for locals using the gym and pool, so we found it very busy and therefore not a very relaxing experience.
While there was plenty of parking, some of it was very awkward to manoeuvre into with a relatively large car. Leaving it a race to get the better spots.
The hotel in all was 'nice' but we came to relax and unfortunately we left feeling like we didn't get that from the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Loved it! - We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The spa facilities were great and there are a few restaurants on site. Breakfast was great although staff is a bit all over the place at times during breakfast. There is a buffet and you can also choose some others things cooked to order. We had dinner at one of the restaurant and really enjoyed it!There are also loads of walks near by (some starting at the hotel), the hotel has maps for these walks which is great! We would definitely stay here again and we do recommend it to others!
- dave B (8/5): Close to Grasmere where we were walking - great food, good service, properly trained staff, wonderful setting, very nice rooms,
- Sara (10/5): Great hotel in idyllic village! - Perfect hotel and location for a peaceful getaway in the Lake District! Staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were wonderfully comfortable (and beautifully furnished) especially after a day out walking. We had dinner each night at Wainwright's Inn - great food and great service! All in all a perfect stay! Will definitely be going back again!
- Sama (8/5): Excellent break to relax - Excellent venue, only snag was the wifi in the room (121) was very bad. On exiting the room wifi got better. But overall experience was excellent staff were very friendly and accommodating
- Michelle (10/5): Really Impressive - Stayed here to celebrate a big birthday. Room had been recently refurbished to a high standard with a few luxurious touches. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Lots of choice for buffet breakfast. The spa and pool were excellent and everything is situated within beautiful grounds.
- bev (10/5): Relaxing stay. Lovely pleasant surroundings - Lovely food, room and overall experience. Will definately be returning
- John (10/5): Passing through!! - Excellent, pity it was only one night, but we will go back.
- Windsor-Wood (10/5): Ideal base for the Langdales - This hotel provided a perfect base for our walking break in the lakes. The restaurants and bars on the estate were of a high standard with a super buffet English breakfast.
The only down side was limited internet access at times in the bedroom, however we were informed that this is to be improved at the end of April. A very relaxing and enjoyable stay.
- lindsay (10/5): A wonderful retreat - This was a lovely experience. We came for an escape from city life and got just that. After a day's hiking we could return to the Langdale escape for a spa and a nice meal in one of the restaurants. Great location and excellent customer service. We'll definitely return.
- happy (10/5): Fantastic hotel in a beautiful location - Enjoyed a lovely short break at this beautiful hotel at the beginning of March, and would thoroughly recommend it. We had a gorgeous room (one of the newly redecorated "signature rooms"), which was contemporary but with a warm, fresh ambience. The restaurants are of high quality, and the spa is well designed and a welcome break after a day's walking in the sleet and snow! It could benefit from more relaxing areas, though, as there are insufficient recliners for the numbers of guests. The grounds are beautifully kept and well landscaped. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone. Hopefully the pending alterations to the restaurants will not diminish the range of quality on offer - it is nice to find casual to fine dining so well provided for on site.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very clean and lovely facilities - We spent a lot of time in the swimming area we loved it and the food was great.
- Michael (2/5): Not a spa hotel! - customer service is pretty poor - Although titled a spa hotel, the signature rooms and Brimstone share the central facilities with the timeshare and self catering. So if you are looking for a luxury get away, and pay £150+ for a room, expect the complex to be set up for families and mixed accomodation, these two are completely different experiences. The pool and spa facilities are a little tired and are more like an average center parks experience. The reception staff are inpersonal and the manager not very empathetic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Short stay - Excellent hotel set in lovely surroundings. Great accommodation with fantastic breakfast.
- Viv (10/5): Lovely hotel in a wonderful setting - Lovely stay in the heart of the Lake District. Staff were very courteous and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was wonderful in a lovely setting. Took advantage of the leisure facilities after walks over the cells. We had a wonderful time in this excellent hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely hotel and food - Too much rain, but not the hotels fault !..........................................................................................................
- Colly (8/5): Picturesque surroundings, pleasant rooms.
- The Langdale Estate is very beautiful. Rooms comfortable and well appointed.
Food was quite good, but no obvious menu for children.
Car parking was very poor, particularly if arriving after dark. Also there were many quite dark areas to contend with when walking around at night.
A torch was very necessary.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel. Not in Ambleside as advertised. - This hotel is in Elterwater which is a nice village but nothing like Ambleside. Do not expect to be able to walk to Ambleside!
Still, nice hotel (on a time - share complex) with great facilities. Two good pubs within walking distance and some great scenery / nice walks. All in all, not what we expected but would definitely go back.
- Julie (10/5): Very comfortable hotel, Central to all the main ar - Good all around and very relaxing stay. Room, facilities and food were all really good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lakes - Really good, the food was amazing!!
- Jon (8/5): Great Stay Overall. - Really good weekend away at the Langdale Hotel overall. Staff were very accomodating especially when we asked to switch rooms for a non ground floor room. Breakfast at the hotel and an evening meal at the Wainwright Inn were excellant.
A few little niggles - The hotel is quite expensive and therefore we were dissapointed that the Hot Tub in the pool area was broken as the Spa was one of the biggest reasons for booking. Also the bath in our room had an bubble/heating facility that was also broken.
Other than this a lovely weekend in an amazing location.
- Rickief (10/5): - Great room. Leisure facilities superb.we only stayed one night but would definitely visit again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great customer service and fab location - Traffic was terrible and arrived at 10pm. Food was finished but they reopened for us. Food was lovely. Spa facilities excellent
- simon (10/5): A great place to stay - Overall extremely good. 1 issue with last morning service at breakfast. Waiter said he would return in 5 mins to take out hot breakfast order.... still waiting 15 mins later. Probably a one off as every other morning everything was faultless.
- Cath (8/5): Quality hotel in stunning location - The Langdale estate in autumn is beautiful and its location means you can walk from your door through the most stunning part of England. Relaxing in the pool and spa after a long hike is a perfect end to the day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Langdale Hotel was fabulous! We loved our stay there. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. A great place to stay and experience the lake district in England. We would recommend it to friends and would come back anytime. A great get away, with wonderful facilities, people and a great spa.
- Verified traveler (10/5): 10/9/14 - Could not of been a better stay. Will be back again
- Verified traveler (10/5): A great hotel - A lovely hotel in a great location for exploring the Lake District. The facilities (pool, spa etc.) were excellent and the range of food on offer was very good. The staff were exceptionally helpful and we had a wonderful stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely Hotel in Ambleside - I would most definitely visit the Langdale Hotel and Spa again. I took my 7 year old daughter away for a few days in the summer holidays and it was perfect for us. All the facilities were on site ie 3 restaurants and a country pub within walking distance. The swimming pool was a definite hit in the early evening after long days visiting nearby attractions. The food in all the restaurants was lovely. The staff were all extremely helpful and courteous. The only slight niggle I would have would be the early 10.30am check out time. Most hotels usually have a noon checkout.
- R&C (10/5): Fantastic Holiday - Could not fault anything apart from the weather and the hotel even provided a large umbrella in the room!
- Mick (4/5): Disappointed - Booked the hotel last minute as a spa break to coincide with a family event nearby. Hoped for a comfortable spa hotel but what we found was more like a holiday camp. Room very small in a separate block with limited natural light and no view. Problems with keys on arrival and other faults with the room. Breakfast only served from 8 - 10 every day, so no chance for either a lay in or opportunity to use the spa before hotel breakfast. Limited choice of food and drinks in the bars. Not suitable for a romantic break, better choice for families with children.
- Jeri (10/5): Relaxed but busy weekend. - Loved the accommodations. The pool and spa where so welcoming after we spent the morning exploring the fells. Loved the hikes and the trip to lake Windermere. .
- Fred (10/5): Great location and so tranquil well laid out - Excellent eating and bar facilities
Swimming pool and sauna were first class and very clean
- Kieran.c (10/5): Perfect getaway - Hotel was well kept in incredible location. Staff were very happy and helpful. All restaurants and bars were very good, as well as pool and spa facilities.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not 4* - If looking for a really nice 4* hotel in the lakes, avoid this one. If you are looking for a nice but functional hotel which will let you have a good night's sleep and decent breakfast with the occasional swim in the pool then also look elsewhere because you'll find it cheaper than you'll pay here! Not a bad hotel, just very overpriced for what it was.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Brilliant - Lovely hotel and service was fantastic, food is expensive but very worth it! Cleanliness is A* all round, spa area and rooms especially clean! Very good place all round!
- Simon (10/5): Amazing Rooms - The staff were very welcoming and friendly, so much so they even managed to upgrade my room. Huge bed and bathroom with an air bath. Would love to come back!
- Dave (10/5): Fab hotel complex set in the heart of the lakes - A most enjoyable stay. Very relaxing place to be.
Staff made us feel very welcome.
- Andrew (8/5): Nice hotel, great food! - Stayed at the Langdale hotel and spa from Monday 26-28th May.
Staff were really helpful whether it be hotel reception, spa or restaurant and bar staff.
Room was well kept and clean.
I was really impressed with the food on offer. There was a good variety at breakfast, with certain supplements on offer such as pancakes at no extra cost! Ate in Purdey's restaurant one evening and although it was quite expensive, the food was delicious!
Only real downside of the stay was that the swimming pool was very busy and the spa treatments were particularly pricey which put my girlfriend off having any.
- scoobi (10/5): excellent location - lovely break away from it all with great facilities all on site. all the staff are a credit to the hotel with nothing been too much trouble and very welcoming in all departments. would definatly return.
- Slotsman (6/5): Lacking attention to detail - My wife and I stayed for two nights and found the bed to be uncomfortable (sagging with wear). The external stairs, public walkways and room access areas were somewhat dirty, maybe because of walkers. If so, then they could use a regular jet wash or steam clean routine. Staff were professional but lacked that personal touch. If you were not familiar with this level of hotel you would find it very good but, I stay in many hotels personally and professionally and this was not what I expected for 4 stars at this price. In my opinion this hotel needs to try harder. Lake district is excellent though and the location is ideal.
- Katrina (10/5): Stunning - Absolutely gorgeous surroundings . Hotel blends in beautifully. Ate at pub up the road also owned by hotel. Fantastic old fashioned traditional food and beer.
- vinee (10/5): Great Hotel - It was the first time for me and my wife in the lake district so I wanted to find really nice hotel for us. I have found the Langdale Hotel and Spa on hotel.com and I have to say that i haven't been disappointed at all.The Room was lovely and really clean, the bed was really comfortable, we even had a jacuzzi bath in the bathroom. The only down side was the wifi connection which was rubbish. I can't comment on the other facilities such as the swimming pool etc.. as I didn't use them. Regarding the staff they are friendly and polite. The breakfast was excellent, the buffet has pretty much everything you want. The hotel location is great ,the surrounding is really pretty they are plenty of hills to climb. It is certainly a great hotel to stay in if you can afford it.
- Jean (8/5): Langdale hotel - Booked a 3 day break and had a fab time hotel was great and facilities nice an clean. Liked the fact that the pool was open until 10pm. Staff really helpful and friendly.
