Guest Reviews

- David (10/5): Fowey is a great place to visit and King of Prussia is ideal to stay at. - Location and friendliness of staff
- Sue (9/5): Lovely stay in Fowey will definitely stay at King of Prussia again x - Right in centre of town but with great views A little bit noisy late at night and early in the morning
- Liane (10/5): - Everything. The atmosphere was great, the staff couldn't do enough, the bed was comfy, we had a fridge in our room and we could get as much fresh milk as we needed. It was clean. Evening meal we has was wonderful and the manager made sure she secured us a good table. We didn't have our dog with us but loved seeing dogs enjoy their holiday too Loved everything. Was noisy at night from outside sources but the music was good and it finished at a reasonable time. Nothing the hotel could change. But we sat and watched the world go by from our room. Lovely
- Mari (10/5): Amazing experience - Friendly, amazing room, lovely food None
- Paul (10/5): Lovely stay - Wonderful room food and location
- Matthew (10/5): Relaxing comfortable stay perfect - Great location, lovely comfortable bed we had an amazing nights sleep, beautiful sea view,
Very quiet place with great breakfast Nothing
- Lindsay (2/5): Poor and over priced. - Nicely done The noise, unfortunately noise travels. There were either guest or staff being very loud until late into the night. The staff were less than polite the following morning. New staff the evening before were training but very polite. I got charged twice for one order. Who ever gave us breakfast and checked us out was strained, not particularly polite and definitely not welcoming. This was an expensive, noisy, unwelcoming night which is a shame because I’d heard such positive things.
- Julie (10/5): A perfect location to explore the town and location in general. - The History
The location
- William (9/5): - Verygood Good
- Peter (8/5): - Fruit and yoghurt was exceptional.location in Fowey is No 1 best. Restaurant was closed for us Sunday and Monday.
- Janice (6/5): - The staff were very friendly, the position of the pub was very central. The bedrooms were comfortable and did look like the pictures on-line. The pictures on line of the bar/eating area were misleading. The pictures looked nothing like the real thing and it was all very tired and worn. The stair case going up to the bedrooms was very tired and worn and the carpets were badly stained. We were not informed before arriving that the menu was not available and there would only be tapas.
- Nick (10/5): Exelent - The staff were great
- Hayley (10/5): -
- Claire (10/5): Idyllic stay, stunning property and town - Location was stunning, building was immaculate and well decorated in up to date styles (lots of inspiration for home).
Breakfast was clearly made up of fresh, local ingredients. Nothing too much trouble to provide when requested.
Hearing the lapping of waves on the shore in the early morning was magical.
Would definitely be staying again, highly recommend. That we didn’t have to leave…
- Richard (8/5): - Great welcome. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable room with lovely view. Condition of the stairwell access to room.
- Emma (10/5): Fantastic place, amazing rooms and wonderful friendly staff - Lovely old building full of character. Fantastic rooms, very comfy and very nicely decorated.
- John (8/5): Room lovely wider offer poor - Very good Paid for bed and breakfast, but breakfast it not start until 8.30 which is no good for business stays like me We had to reach at 8 and feel we overloaded for the stay
- Philip (6/5): Spoiled by dirty carpets! - Good room with excellent bed and little treats in the fridge Access to the hotel was not good the dirty carpets and not able to open the bedroom windows
- Cesar (10/5): -
- Toni (6/5): -
- Brendan (9/5): -
- Brett (9/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): Great stay! - Room was lovely! Wasn’t expecting the mini fridge with some treats in which was a nice surprise! Staff were super friendly too Was unfortunate that there wasn’t really parking at the hotel - but that can’t be helped!
- Jill (8/5): - Location and view over the river from our room Despite having paid and could show the booking.com payment on the app, payment was taken again. All satisfactorily resolved by the manager after the event.
- Williams (1/5): Robbed - Being scammed for £1000. I was charged £400 twice. My mails to booking.com bounce back the hotel promise to sort it … over a week later still being robbed by booking.com (no reply)!
- Sharon (8/5): Fowey stay - The view was amazing..
right in the middle of fowey so perfect.
The food here was amazing
Fabulous cocktails
Lovely breakfast There was no blind up to the bathroom window...it was a large floor to ceiling window...although obscured glass it doesn't obscure completely and there was a function opposite us in the town hall on similar level (3rd floor up)
- Christine (6/5): Fowey is a very interesting town with its harbour and old pubs but public transport non existent - Hotel location was good as it over looked the harbour. Convenient for shops, pubs and restaurants. Room was
fairly comfortable. Breakfast had a very nice granola, yoghurt and fruit dish but no other choice of cereal.
Staff very friendly . Access to the hotel not easy for someone with a mobility problem and we only learned of the entrance at the side by chance, and as the pub was closed from early on Sunday to Wednesday, we should have been told.
We were not aware that the King of Prussia was primarily a pub and for the money we paid we expected something better. The stair carpets from the pub to our room was absolutely filthy-no doubt from muddy feet.
very off putting and something that needs to be addressed TV in room too high unless in bed which was far too wide for the size of room and armchairs too cramped in.
Cooked breakfast good but would be improved with different bacon and not so over cooked.
- Carmen (5/5): Fowey is a lovely little town - Nice room ( a bit on the small side)
Very nice bathroom High noise levels on a Saturday evening outside directly under our window , with people drinking, smoking and shouting on the pavement and in the bar below until the late hours.
Breakfast was average.
Too expensive
- David (5/5): Not what I expected from a 4* establishment there were no members of staff in the hotel after it closed and that was ver - The room was very nice and was cleaned every morning . Never sure when main entrance and bar would be closed entry was therefore through a side entrance and up the back stairs to the room. Breakfast menu was very limited. Very poor water pressure in the shower.
- Kelly (7/5): Not quite the birthday treat I hoped for - Excellent fish and chips and King of Prussia cocktail. It was lovely seeing the full moon on the water at night and waking up to the sound of the water. Comfortable bed. Excellent spot if you enjoy watching all the early morning harbour activity. Fowey is one of my favourite places. The plan was a birthday treat to relax and read.
For some reason I assumed my room had a chair (all of the room pics on the main page show chairs, but I missed that there wasn’t one in my selected “Delux Double” room) and as the public area was closed on a Monday, there was nowhere to sit.
Information sheet in the room would have been helpful as I felt like I was constantly asking questions to understand how things worked.
Note also that for anything over 24 hours, the long term car park jumps up to £26 for a week.
Maybe it was the end of a long season, but in summary, the service was lukewarm and I didn’t really feel that welcome.
- Sasha (10/5): A beautiful boutique hotel that adds style and comfort to a unique Cornwall stay. - The room was absolutely gorgeous! It definitely gave me interior design inspiration. The furnishings were tasteful and comfortable, and the service was great. The shower was also wonderful. All members of staff made us feel welcome. The only slight inconvenience was the parking, as the hotel was advertised as having on-site parking. Due to the popularity of the town, we had to park around a 15 minute walk away which wasn’t accounted for when planning our trip, but this worked out fine in the end.
- Maura (10/5): -
- Andrea (10/5): - Bezauberndes kleines Hotel in super Lage mit direktem Ausblick aufs Meer.
- Dale (8/5): -
- Marianne (8/5): - Location on the quay Colour scheme in main area didn't exude quality which didn't compliment the style and quality of menu. Stair carpet to bedrooms very off putting for first impressions, heavily stained and dirty. Obviously difficult to keep clean but needs attention. The staff however were very friendly, breakfast waitress very efficient , breakfast was delicious.
- Haley (7/5): - Great location, very central and on the water, staff was really nice and breakfast was good Kind of hard to get to if you are unfamiliar with Cornwall - we parked 10-15 minutes away and then walked over (maybe this is typical, we just didn’t know what to expect), rooms could probably get kind of warm depending on the weather as the rooms are small and there’s no air conditioning/fan
- Agnes (9/5): -
- Russell (10/5): - We booked in for the Fowey regatta week, and we were in the centre of the events. It was a wonderful experience, and we're looked after by our host and her team. Many thanks
- Orla (9/5): Excellent and comfortable stay in beautiful Fowey during busy Regatta week - Thoughtfully and tastefully restored historic building in central location overlooking the sea in Fowey Lots of stairs including steep steps up to front door may make it less suitable for someone with limited mobility
- Miryam (9/5): -
- Lynda (7/5): I enjoyed staying in Fowey and the location was great. - Location was great. Bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly.
The meal was excellent. No lift and lot of stairs.
Not a hotel more a restaurant with rooms so no lounge.
Restaurant not open Mondays and Tuesdays
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent hotel - would recommend, 10/10, would stay again - Centrally located, clean, excellent facilities Nope
- Frank (9/5): - The staff are really friendly beautiful view across the harbour Parking the nearest carpark is a 10 min walk
- Chrysi (9/5): Great location. Superb breakfast ! - Breakfast is superb! Location is great! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Bed mattress very comfortable. All good
- Rennie (7/5): Enjoyable - Good Housekeeping not thorough enough.
- Mark (9/5): Well worth a visit - Excellent evening meal and breakfast, great location and really helpful staff Our our bed and room could have been bigger
- Mari (9/5): Great stay. We really enjoyed our time in King and Fowey. - Great small hotel in perfect location in Fowey harbour. Close to everything. Very nice rooms. Great breakfast. Everything was good!
- Clare (9/5): Fantastic Stay - Fantastic location and excellent breakfast. Staff friendly. Dog friendly too.
- Robyn (9/5): Great location, great food - both breakfast and dinner at night! - A superb breakfast! The location on the Quay very special.
- Emily (8/5): Beautiful location, a wonderful base for our amazing holiday in Cornwal - Excellent breakfast, made to order from a good choice. Bottled water, fresh milk and cake treats replaced in the fridge almost every day of our stay. Beautiful location but you can't drive to the property so be prepared to walk to and from the nearest available car park. Convenient side access in and out when the pub is closed. Our towels weren't changed even though we stayed 5 nights and put one of the hand towels in the shower on the second-to-last day, expecting it to be changed. A couple of times the room wasn't made up to the previous high standard and the rubbish wasn't taken out.
- Sarah (10/5): Welcoming and friendly hotel in fantastic location - Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Great river front location. Delicious breakfast. Nothing!
- Teresa (8/5): Lovely stay! - The hotel was spotless, room a little small but bed very comfy. Thought I might be kept awake by the pub outside but I was wrong. The windows stopped any noise. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent quality. Great location and views.
Managed to drop off cases easily and park at carpark 10 mins walk away. Costs only £6.30 for 24 hours parking. A little bus does a loop around Fowey every 15 mins if you don't want to walk to the car park. It was a bit hot at night. A fan would be good. Unusually hot mini heatwave at the time though.
- Derek (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lesley (9/5): Superb -
- Cheryl (9/5): Lived our stay and very grateful to the staff for helping us with our passports etc which we left behind -
- Keeling (8/5): Lovely place and location, spoilt by the neighbours. - Its location*. Perfectly next to the quayside, great views to just sit and watch the world and sea mist go by, catch boat tours, local eateries and more. Chosen specifically by us due to it being on the flat in a hilly location and we had mobility issues. Food was good quality, staff friendly, rooms very clean, huge king size bed, big windows to sit at, good coffee served in a proper sized mug :), market events happening in the town, overall friendly people. *On two of our three nights the neighbouring and popular Royal British Legion & Working Men’s Club kept us awake until 2am and 1am respectively (Sun & Tue evenings) when their closing time was reportedly 10:30 / 11pm. The warm summer evenings meant everyone’s windows were open so we endured hours of well oiled lads singing, outdoor chats and banter, choice language, long ‘good-nights’, etc, at a volume as if it was midday. No apparent respect for hotel guests paying a premium just feet away nor any acknowledging normal licensing hours. In this peaceful location there would be virtually no noise that time of the night, save for seagulls, so it is all the more jarring. Wouldn’t stay here again for this reason alone. Had the car been closer (parked 1/2 mile away) we were seriously contemplating going home on the first evening as we live in the next county.
Recommended car park is 1/2 mile away and up a steep climb and £10.50/day. It is as advertised and there is a park & ride bus service during the day @ £2 per person, per direction, but is inconvenient if you need it.
Hotel beds had duvets too heavy for summer, could have offered the option of sheets, but TBF we didn’t ask either.
The quay in front of the hotel is well lit at night, all night, so although the curtains are thick blackout, enough light bleeds in around the edges to see around the room. So not totally dark if you need it that way to sleep or if you wanted to let more cooler air in. Seagulls are heard all night - not sure if this is as a result of it being so well lit outside.
- Sarah (10/5): Great central location, gorgeous rooms and amazing food - Great location and view over the town square. So nice to look out of those big windows with a coffee in the morning. The room was gorgeous room, an enormous comfy bed and nice amenities. The hairdryer was great (most aren’t!) and I always love a coffee machine and fresh milk.
The team were all so friendly and helpful and the food was exceptional. Really interesting menu and the best dinner we had in Fowey. One small thing - in the bathroom the products were lovely but there was no conditioner.
The location is very central with stunning views but that inevitably means there is a little noise from people coming and going so be mindful of that if you need complete quiet. Personally I quite liked being in the middle of everything.
- Georgina (9/5): Bit of luxury - Amazing location, very comfy bed and beautiful river views. Breakfast was incredible. Room was very warm overnight and no air con. No help offered getting our bags up several flights of stairs.
- Mark (8/5): Excellent hotel in great location with superb room and facilities. - The location was excellent, our room a deluxe king room had the best view of the main square and estuary, breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Good facilities in room which also had a small fridge. Nothing to note really, staff seemed to be stretched a bit, it was explained that a few staff where away but this didn't have any effect on our stay.
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Clive (9/5): Fowey is beautiful and The King does it justice. A wonderful relaxing break. - The breakfast was fabulous, great choice and very filling. The bedroom was and view were great and the location is brilliant.
- William (6/5): Loved the location and staff friendly and approachable but visit spoilt by items above. Unlikely to stay there again whe - Nice room with comfortable bed, view of the square and estuary. Every evening up to 11.30 very noisy outside from drinkers at bar below, loud continuous base of music. Breakfast tables in morning, plates and napkins stuck to table and had to be peeled away.
- Robert (10/5): Great restuarant, just Amazing! - Style, staff & location Nothing
- Charles (7/5): Great Location but a bit loud at night. - It is centrally located. The staff were super friendly. Breakfast was delicious! Room was a bit small. It did not have AC, so it was quite hot, so you needed to keep your window open. There were no screens. The hotel sits on a square so it is quite loud at night with everyone drinking and talking. Definitely need earplugs!
- Julie (9/5): very enjoyable one night stay would recommend. - Staff very friendly, room very comfortable and nicely decorated, shower especially good. Excellent location. Food was a little too expensive but we enjoyed the meal.
Car park was quite a walk from the accomodation.
- Richard (9/5): Exceeds expectations, lovely - Everything was just well above the average, the room, the food, the facilities, the location.. Parking tough but public carpark brilliant. Pricey but well worth the stay.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (10/5): A perfect start to the honeymoon. - The view was incredible. Bed comfortable. The staff were incredibly hospitable and kind. Made a huge effort to make our stay really memorable. The only minor minor problem was the shower was quite weak water pressure wise.
- Gary (10/5): Wonderful - Great room with a wonderful view and excellent food including GF options
- Kerry (10/5): Best place to stay in Fowey. - The staff were so very kind, carrying our bags upstairs and letting us stay longer in our room due to a medical problem. Very much appreciated their kindness and help.
- Nikki (9/5): Great for solo travellers who want a great location and friendly staff - Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, going above and beyond. I loved the sea view from my room. , the best breakfast Ive had in a while, really delicious. Dinner was on the expensive side, but is great quality
- Jennifer (7/5): Has potential to be great, but overpriced in current conditions - + Location was brilliant. Extremely central and handy (we didn't have a car that needing parking though!). Nice modern decor in rooms, comfortable bed, nice bathroom- powerful shower and nice toiletres. - Hotel has scaffolding up and so the river view we'd paid for was heavily obscured. I feel there should be a price discount to reflect this and also the disturbance by building work from 8am next door (earplugs had been provided). Skirting and bathroom extractor fan dusty and need cleaning.
We were asked to pre-order breakfast, but then it wasn't ready when we went down at the agreed time and took ages to come out. We were served one pain au chocolat and one yoghurt / fruit bowl between two people, which for £150 / night seems ridiculous, but we were too embarrassed to say. Staff generally seemed not very clued up or friendly. We were directed right to the other end of town for the ferry, when in fact it was on the winter schedule still, so departed from outside the same hotel. Basic knowledge of local transport is important and expected. For £30 more our night at Fowey Hall Hotel (with spa/pool/ beautiful communal spaces and gardens) was much better value for money, even if it was a steep walk uphill back from the centre.
- Fiona (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andylongstaff (6/5): Comfortable but not great value - Breakfast was excellent Wi fi didn’t work
Scaffolding around entire building
- Tim (7/5): Good -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Notman (8/5): Very comfortable - Would have liked some toast and Marmalade Nothing. The breakfast was lovely
Very good scrambled eggs
- Richardp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Soffi (10/5): Aptly named King of hotels - This is an hotel that clearly knows what guests need and then they provide with bells on!
First the smiley front of house greeting with detailed explanation of what where and how.
Then shown to the amazing harbour view room with huge shower - everything was there!
I could be biased by the twinkling Christmas decorations but the warmth and cosy bar/dining area made the shoulders go down. Then a delicious menu to choose from and brilliant service. Comfy bed, tea in the room and a huge breakfast feast. Heaven! Not a thing.
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay, the breakfast was incredible and the rooms have lovely decor. The location is perfect, would definitely stay here again. The bathroom needs a shelf or something to store toothbrush etc. The room was extremely hot at times and wasn't always able to open the window due to noise from outside so a fan would be helpful. Not a complaint just a couple of observations
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - the yogurt, granola and berries were the best.... delicious coffee.... I thought the mugs were too big and heavy..... but it was all wonderful...
- Richardp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (10/5): It was a five star experience. - The attention to detail was fantastic. The staff were friendly, professional and attentive.
- Chris (8/5): Very enjoyable, not going to waffle because you want me too - All very good, even had a good pint of tribute. Location brilliant Shelf above basin, and a clue how to turn on bathroom wall lights. That said this is not a complaint just an observation.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (5/5): Food Beautiful, Staff Great, Amazing Location - Air B and B Rooms Clean - but not serviced daily! - Chef great - amazing food.
Restaurant staff - excellent very helpful.
Air B and B rooms - not serviced - after first day!
We visited November - The rooms just warm, the restaurant very cold. Smell of sewage/toilets on staircase leading to residents’ rooms from side door.
Grubby carpet - needs replacing with hardboard flooring that can be cleaned easily.
No Servicing to residents’ rooms after first day - despite high cost of rooms.
Air B and B rooms - service yourself with tea, coffee etc!
Shower poor.
Room itself was clean with a lovely view.
- Debbie (10/5): Very impressive sea view location for a short stay break for two. - Great area to stroll around with a few shops of interest to browse through. It wasn’t at all busy. The sea view from our room was fantastic and the room was very cosy. The evening meal and breakfast menus were impressive too with a good selection of food. The staff were particularly friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.
- Bill (8/5): Very good -
- Hume (9/5): Great view and position in the town, lovely place to be with food and service to match - Front of house managed by Laura was super friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Sam the chef did a fine job. Food was delicious. All the staff were great. The bed was exceptional and the decor was fresh and stylish Having to go home
- Marion (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (9/5): Superb -
- Kay (10/5): I felt like a queen staying at the king of Prussia. Everything was excellent!! - Staff room food & view Nothing
