Guest Reviews
- Michele (8/5): - The room had peeling paint on the ceiling and the bathroom walls. The bathtub needed to be replaced. We opted to not use it. The room had limited outlets. There was limited lighting, just in the room and bathroom. The little kitchen area did not have any lighting.
- Deena (6/5): - Clean, adequately furnished as a place to sleep. Short on outlets for charging. No staff interaction beyond check in.
- nathan (10/5): - It’s dated but kept clean and staff was super nice.
- Phillip (2/5): - Terrible lighting; felt the springs in the mattress; three train whistle blasts in the middle of the night; no outlets for devices on two of the three walls in the main room; no lighting at all in the kitchenette. Worst motel experience in years!
- Virginia (4/5): - Parking was easy and secure. The bed was comfortable and made perfectly. Room. Felt crowded with big furniture. Rug needs a good shampoo
- Kimberly (6/5): - Kind of put off by the locked door to check in- had to ring the doorbell- made me concerned about the area but the room was fine
- Vinnie (4/5): - The motel is in desperate need of renovation inside and out. Our room was in poor condition and was missing furniture.. Even the window next to the door was cracked. The tub in the bathroom looked pretty nasty, but the hot water was surprisingly decent. The train rolls next to the building throughout the night, horn blaring. The bed was super springy and the pillows were very thin and flat. Overall, the room was clean enough, but we did regret booking here. Out of a 10 day Colorado road trip, this was the only room we considered going elsewhere, rather than staying.
- Jacqueline (10/5): - Nice place to stay and economical
- Tereasa (10/5): - I love how simple it was. We absolutely loved the service and how friendly everyone was. If we need a hotel in the future while we are there we will definitely return to sands motel.
- Mark (2/5): No one there - We arrived just before 3 in the afternoon and found the officeclosed and a sign that said return at 3. We waited untill 5:30 with no answer to our phone calls nor did anyone show up to open the office. We left and found accommodation at another place. We want a refund.
- Jeff (4/5): - The facilities are rundown and in poor condition. A MAJOR upgrade is needed if the Sands motel is going to continue to be a motel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was clean. The bathtub/shower combo was in bad shape because the surface was worn badly. A security light above the outside walkway shined through the curtains all night. Not restful. No ice machine.
- Robert (8/5): - Was quite for an old motel what we didn't like was the fact that the train ran all night and blew the whistle every time it crossed the street
- Phillip (10/5): - Great place for a quick overnight stay.
- Bonnie (10/5): Nice stay - A nice room in an older hotel.
- John (4/5): - Fairly clean, beds were comfy, train blasted it's horn like a block away, very old.
- David (6/5): - The Gentleman who checked me in was very nice, efficient, and helped me with suggestions on where to eat. The room was clean, with a coffee maker, coffee, microwave, and refrigerator. The AC unit was too small for the room and did not cool the room down for hours. The ceiling fan helped. Only one nightstand, and it had no lamp. There were no plug-ins near the bed. The lights on the desk and ceiling were very dim, so the room was pretty dark. No kleenex. The room was quiet. The TV (although smalk) worked well. Lots of channels but no HBO or other movie channels. Convenient parking right outside the room.
- Amber (8/5): - Overall very happy with our stay. We came in only for one night. Room rate was reasonable. Room was clean and air conditioner worked great. It is an older motel, but kept up and felt safe. Would stay here again.
- Karen (10/5): - Clean, convenient, good price, good nights rest after long day of travel
- Laurel (2/5): Hot room - It was a 95°+ day, we traveled all day and when we got to the room, the air conditioning hadn’t been turned on and it was so small it took almost all night to cool off. It was a terrible night stay.
- Steven (10/5): - Everything was fine.
- Stephanie (6/5): - The food and beer at the local brewery was excellant.
- Robert (6/5): Nice enough for budget stay, still too high in $ - Friendly and clean - okay for budget stay but should be about $30 lower in rate for what you get. The overwhelming perfume, likely from carpet deodorant, is hard to take. They've done a good job with cleaning, a high spot for them, but other things take away from that such as broken door chain/hoop lock; cuts in curtains; peeling paint throughout room ceiling; carpet (needs replacing with linoleum), and; many other things like almost transparent towels and unattractive elements of the room including almost no light. I'd stay at again at lower rate but my wife would not (and she isn't overly picky.)
- Virginia (4/5): - The motel was old and run down, but it was clean.
- Charley (4/5): - This is a very old motel. 1950’s style. Door lock was loose on frame. Not secure. Room A/C was not on. Room warm.
- fred (8/5): - Clean
- Nicole (6/5): - Bed was horrible. Just old and run down
- A (10/5): - This is a small town and not many options so we were pleased that the Sands was so nice and well kept.
- Rebekah (10/5): - Great!
- Joe (8/5): - The hotel for what it is was just fine. I kind of enjoyed the horns of the train going by in the middle of the night, really, I'm serious! Reminds me of home...if you're looking for a Hilton then go to a Hilton
- Gary (2/5): - The room was dark with one dim overhead bulb. There was hair in the sheets. The bathroom door would not shut and the area with the coffee pot was so dark i had to get a flashlight.
- Thomas (6/5): - Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Easy check in.
- Jesse (10/5): - The Sands is in a perfect location for travel from south to north. I checked in late at nite . The whole process was pleasant and easy.
- richard (6/5): ok stay - Items in room were broken. Lamp TV remote.
Toilet. Room was clean and comfortable
- Brigid (2/5): Stay away - Very old dilapidated property. It’s shocking they charge $100/night. Could not use the bathroom as it is old and stained and filthy looking
- Don (8/5): - Convenient. But AC in the room was weak. The guy checking me in was super nice. Quick drive to local restaurants (Gub Gubs!!!!!).
- Susan (8/5): No frills......no hassle. Just a clea quiet place - If you are looking for a simple, quiet, clean place to rest in your travels across Colorado, this is it.
- Marilou (8/5): - Owner very kind
- Carol (10/5): - Air conditioner didn’t cool very well. No hair dryer
- Mary (2/5): - This motel was awful. You should remove it from your site. Very unsecure with hollow doors, outside handles made from interior doors and the only lock was the door handle lock. VERY RUN DOWN. Matted carpet from the 80's. Smelly. Sketcy ares. I could go on.
- Chase (10/5): - We stayed here while we were in town hunting turkeys. We had no issues with the room. The staff was attentive and very friendly. 10/10 would recommend to any hunters visiting Walsenburg.
- John B (6/5): Non accessible but clean motel. - This is an older motel that is not accessible. I thought I was booking a park at the door room, but I found it involved three steps up to a level and another cumbersome step into the room. Room lacked bedside lights. Needed to use my extension cords. Room did have a nice large frig with freezer.
- SAMUEL (6/5): - Clean but old.
- Marie (10/5): - Owner was great about late check in
- DAVID (10/5): - Room was nice and cozy, with forced hot air heating, that lead to a perfect nights sleep. WIFI is excellent. Good dining and breweries within walking distance.
- Mike (10/5): - Home feel and easy place
- Julie (10/5): - Everything was great i would highly recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cute little hotel - It's an older building so the floors are creaky and the windows are old but it was clean and the beds were comfortable. The lady at the front desk was so nice. There is a train nearby that comes through a few times a night. I would definitely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Older motel 1+ miles from I-25 - Clean and comfortable. More lighting over counter area needed. Very small mirror in bathroom. Nearby train comes through a few times daily. I only noticed it once during the night.
- Joseph (8/5): - This was a nice, convenient motel.
- Julie (10/5): - They were very friendly, the room was clean,i stayed 4 nights and they made sure i had everything i needed. I would definitely recommend it, and will stay again when i come back.
- Julie (10/5): - The only fault i could find is the railroad trax are close so the train is loud when it passes
- Verified traveler (10/5): The staff and owner are amazing! - The staff and owner are amazing! They went far above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and taken care of.
Thank you!!
- Frank (10/5): - Had a great check-in and was given multiple choices for restaurants. Room was clean and beds comfortable. I will stay there again.
- JOSE (10/5): - I enjoyed everything about my stay everything was very clean and peaceful and the staff was great !
- Santos (10/5): - no complaints at all, decent property to stay, with affordable prices, lady in the front desk very nice and always checking behave of the property.
- Bert (10/5): - Thebstaff person was freindly, the facilities were adequate and comfortable. Yet some things in the room are old and not in the best repair. I seem to have been affected a little by allergies during the night, but don't know what it was from.
- Dale (10/5): - The room was clean, but very old and needed repairs.
- Patricia (10/5): - Adrien was wonderful! So accomadating! I happened on the Sands purely by chance when my car broke down and i couldnt have found a better place.
She recommended a shop around the corner, who were very helpful, and when i couldn't get it fixed right away she had no problem extending my reservation for 2 more nights!
Everything about this stay was wonderful! If i had to be stranded, im glad it was here!
- Marcelle (10/5): - This was my second stay, will stay again
- Rick (2/5): - Property staff was excellency. Room seemed last renovated the 1970s. Knats and flies in room. Bed was horrendous. Train horn every hour 100 feet away. Limited lighting. If it fits your budget it’s better than a cave.
- Lee (4/5): What’s wrong with this floor! - Motel was clean but the floor squeaked everywhere you walked. The lighting was poor-very dim. Walls are paper thin- heard every word of the next door neighbor’s fight. Water was hot and pressure was good.
- Kimvalrie (10/5): - Nice hostess! She made this simple motel feel more like a B&B.
- SHIRA (8/5): - Very quaint and clean. Staff was wonderful. It needs a bit of updating, but not a huge problem.
- Julie (10/5): - Great lady that owns the place.
- Gerald (4/5): - This was rated a 10.??? We are not fancy people. This room had a very lumpy soft mattress. Extremely limited lighting. I’m certain the bathroom hasn’t been upgraded in 50 years. I have never sent a negative review previously.
- Julia (10/5): - Staff is very friendly. Old motel, so has some wear, but the rooms are clean and quiet.
- Richard (10/5): - Staff was great. Let me park my bike under the canopy directly in front of my room. The room was dated, but very nice. It’s an old roadside motel and great for the price.
