Guest Reviews
- Nicolette (10/5): - Check in was easy. Room lovely great new bathroom nice tiles bed comfortable. Breakfast was extra at £6.75 but worth it. New landlords have done a great job updating the George, looking forward to our next visit. Great centre location exploring Kinder Scout and Twenty Trees.
- Gavin (8/5): Walk in the Peak District - This wee pub / hotel was great clean tidy good food, staff was helpful and friendly, rooms was good too, would I stay again yes, great value for money,
- Terry (10/5): - We loved our stay at the George. Jos and Lindsay are lovely and run a very nice business. We had two rooms, wife and I and Daughter and Partner. We arrived soaking wet after a walk on Mam Tor. Checked in, had a laugh with the owners, parking was easy, rooms are excellent and clean, food good, beers good. Being born and raised in Derbyshire and an out doors person who spent years in the peaks before heading to that ‘great land down under’, I had somehow missed Hayfield. Lovely village and we enjoyed a clear day hiking after the rain, onto the moors straight from Hayfield. A great stay at the George was enjoyed and thanks Jos and Lindsay for your guidance on where to go.
- Dima (8/5): - Parking was easy, staff were very friendly! Only issue was, it seems like the radiator doesn’t work in room 1? It was quite cold all night. Bed mattress could be more comfortable too. It was a lovely place though and very cute town.
- Alex (8/5): - Nice old building
- Robert (10/5): - Lovely ancient pub in this Pennine village. Staff could not have been more helpful. Property in good condition (the sloping floors are just a mark of the age). Food standard pub fare, but well presented.
- Neil (10/5): - Lovely room, with a very nice bathroom. The hotel was well located within a 2 min walk from the centre of town which made an evening walk around the old sights very enjoyable. The parking was off site but very close by. The restaurant and bar were very nice. An open area for making the home made pizza was lovely and the breakfast was also very nice. The morning staff that served us at breakfast were very friendly and helpful even making a special sausage for our dog as a treat ! Highly recommended and great value for money !
- Sophie (10/5): - Wonderful and relaxing stay at The George Hayfield. We had the family room which was clean and comfortable for a Mum, Dad and x2 teenage girls. Evening meal and breakfast was perfect, good value for money. The two owners (and staff) very friendly and attentive. We’ll be back for sure.
- Steven (10/5): Perfection - Happy to stay here again, staff were absolutely lovely
- Ted (10/5): Lovely little gem in the Peak District - The beds were comfortable, the managers were very friendly and the village is lovely. It's not a fancy place, and breakfast options are simple English breakfast fare, but overall this is a gem of a place if you're hiking or exploring Peak District, especially if you need parking. We appreciated the family room option with a bunk bed for the kids and double for the adults. Note, this is not a good option for persons with mobility issues (stairs).
- Philip (10/5): Feed back - Great people, nice food and service, shower blocked by hair mass I sorted, room good, bed comfy, slightly dated decor but owners are new and dealing with decor. Overall a good stay.would go back happily.
- joanne (10/5): Fabulous little place - The ladies who are running the hotel/pub so lovely - nothing is too much trouble - only been there 5 mths and they have their work cut out with the property and building it up again as a pub - all staff lovely , dog friendly - great location
- Matthew (10/5): - The place was lovely. The staff were so friendly, they accommodate a few special requests of mine for food. I ate dinner there every night. The food was excellent, with lots of options for vegan meals. The room was clean and well presented. Overall, I enjoyed the stay more than I was anticipating. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone to stay at George’s.
- Sharon (10/5): - We just had a fabulous 2 night stay at the George in family room 9. The 2 new lovely lady managers who have only been in 4 months know what they are doing and they know the old place just need some TLC. Breakfast choice was plentiful and very well presented. A Fan was provided on request as it was extremely hot on our weekend. Our room was clean and beds very comfy. Parking is great and easily accessible. Fabulous location for immediate access to the dark and white Peak District. Photos are of the village itself plus the bathroom in room 9 which has a large shower.
- Anthony (8/5): - The owners and staff are great
- Damandeep (10/5): - Brilliant friendly place to stay
- Karina (10/5): - Lovely place to stay in convenient location. Great vegan food options.
- Ryan (10/5): - great
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hayfield - Proprietors friendly. Clean, basic. Good shower.24 hr access via key.
- Leslie (10/5): - Excellent place to stay, located in a quiet village, with shops and pubs, friendly staff, limited menu but good food, recommended
- Damandeep (10/5): - Staff and owners outstanding have booked again
- Roger (10/5): - Very friendly in the centre of a beautiful village. A large room with an excellent bathroom. Could have done with some bedside lights.
- Dominik (10/5): - Perfect place to stay, lovely atmosphere in the pub
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor and dated - Very dated room in village pub. Small and uncomfortable double bed. Impossible to get right temperature on shower, and have to reach right over bath to switch on fan. No milk for tea. Overpriced
- Stephen (10/5): - Frendly and helpful staff. Will use again.
- Robin (10/5): - Great location, friendly staff, good, clean room. 😀
- Michael (10/5): 2 nights stay - Stayed for a couple of nights, staff were very frendly and helpful.
Rooms were simple but good enough for a place to sleep. Exceptional area for the price.
- Thomas (10/5): - Staff were amazing and friendly. You really couldn't ask for more. Well worthwhile.
- Emil (6/5): Not the best - The kitchen was under refurbishment so there was no breakfast available. It is not stated anywhere in the booking process. This was an issue. Otherwise nice cosy room, good location, good car park.
- Samuel (10/5): Exception hotel, highly recommended!!! - Had an absolutely fantastic stay at The George!! I booked a long weekend for myself and my brother to do some hiking. Hayfield is a beautiful gem of a village, and the hotel is perfectly placed in the Peak District for all the most scenic hikes. You can start Kinder Scout from the hotel itself and it's only a 10/15 minute drive to Edale Valley and Bleaklow.
Joss and Lynds have only recently taken over management of the pub/hotel at the end of January. They have such good energy and their enthusiasm for their business and community is truly humbling. Their customer service and hospitality make you feel really welcomed - they're just genuinely lovely people. The atmosphere they've created in the pub is so positive and we spent both nights around the bar having a laugh with Joss/Lynds, staff and the locals. Fantastic old fashioned pub and simply great vibes! Soon to serve food as well so will definitely be back for that!
The room was perfect, comfortable beds, clean room with a nice view of the hills. Parking is easy and there's always a few spaces available. Ignore older comments that state parking as an issue as the council have recently changed their rules and you no longer have to input your number plate to park.
Overall, I really cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be telling friends and family to book a stay. Looking forward to coming back soon to see how Joss and Lynds are getting on with their venture!
- Catherine (10/5): - We had a great couple of nights at the George Hotel. The rooms had everything you need and the staff were incredibly friendly. Hayfield is a lovely little town to visit and the George was a great place to stay.
- James (10/5): - Really nice rooms and super clean.
