Guest Reviews
- tyler (10/5): - I had a great experience, my room was clean, breakfast had a great variety of fresh options, each coworker I interacted with was very helpful and friendly. Would 100% stay here again.
- Michelle (10/5): - Room was very clean, staff was amazing. Easy check in was great only down side is paying to park
- Oliver (10/5): - Excellent accomodations. Room was very clean, hotel staff friendly, good breakfast menu. Overall great experience
- Emma (8/5): - It was an overall good stay, my only complaint is they didn’t give any check out instructions. Not when check out was (there was a little sign in the lobby), and not what to do with linens or trash. Just a little confusing, but the hotel was very clean & the staff were all kind.
- William (10/5): - it was good
- heather (8/5): - The Rooms were clean and friendly staff. We put a towel at bottom of door as it made a howling noise. Breakfast wasn’t served till 6:30am so that was a downfall for us as we left by 5am. I a
Would say overall a 4.5 rating!
- Kelvin (10/5): - My Wife and I enjoyed our stay at Tru by Hilton Columbia Downtown. We booked from Saturday to Monday and the hotel was fully booked. The price was very reasonable compared to the value you receive. Comfortable feel and modern property. The staff is extremely friendly. We had the pleasure of checking in with Lillie at the reception desk. The general manager sent me a message prior to our check in date, which I appreciated. We received messages from the Hotel staff asking how everything was going throughout our stay. The room was immaculate, the only thing I should have requested was a bigger comforter for the bed, lol.
The proximity to Colonial life arena is a big reason why we choose this hotel. We took an uber to the arena Saturday night and it was only $10, the evening was beautiful and we decided to walk back to the hotel after the Maxwell concert. It was about a 20 minute leisurely walk. My Wife and I felt safe walking back, we were amongst a crowd of concert goers at first which fizzled down and then we realized we were amongst a bunch of USC students out enjoying their Saturday night. lol!
Great night in Columbia and looking forward to our next stay at Tru Downtown Columbia. Close to different shops and restaurants, close to the Zoo and Botanical garden. Officially designated our Hotel of choice when we’re in town.
Thank you!!
- Erin (10/5): - Great location, wonderful front desk and onsite bar/restaurant staff. We came back later in the week and would highly recommend!
- Honour (10/5): - The rooms are clean but sterile, no personality. There is not enough parking; guests have to park on the streets and a lot double parked in the hotel lot. And we were on the 7th floor and there was a noise similar to air conditioner running on the top of the building. Couldn’t sleep!
- Heidi (10/5): Amazing - The breakfast was the best I have ever had at a hotel. Lots of options, including healthy ones.
- Steve (10/5): - Very clean rooms- property looks brand new
- Quincy (10/5): - Two thumbs up. Great experience all around.
- Betty (10/5): - Liked everything about the Hotel
- Joseph (10/5): - It was clean the staff was very friendly and the breakfast was tremendous look forward to going back.
- FRANK (6/5): Hotel Stay - Upon chucking in a young man was at the counter talking to another while a female was waiting on another couple. The two were looking at their phones and talking so I said can I check in please. He said, I’ll be with you in a minute. Then he walked off not to inform me he would return, he didn’t say anything but looked at his cell phone. After the girl helped the couple she immediately help me with checking in. She even provided a bag with two water, she was great.
However, not only will you pay for your room, we found out we had to pay for parking at $12 a night which is totally unacceptable.
- LISA (10/5): - Close to University, staff is lovely, room is beautiful and clean
- Joshua (10/5): - A great clean place
- April (4/5): - Refrigerator leaked and got my suitcase and clothes all wet. Only one elevator worked and waited a long time to get up and down to the room. Only one staff checking in and waited 20-30 minutes to check in. The breakfast was gross, eggs and French toast was rubbery. They only clean your room every other day and wouldn’t bring us new towels after using all the towels to dry the floor. Only thing we liked was the Starbucks across the street and how large the room was.
- Athena (10/5): - The breakfast included was excellent. The lobby area is huge with multiple seating options and the bar area was a bonus too
- Jonathan (10/5): - The hotel is immaculate! Everything is so clean and new. The breakfast in the morning was delicious!!! Definitely NOT your typical free breakfast! Had many hot items including a breakfast taco bar that amazing!
- Denise (10/5): - My daughter goes to UofSC so I know the area. This was the first time I stayed at this hotel and I was very happy with the accommodations. Clean, friendly staff, helpful. Will definitely be back.
- Kristin (10/5): - Very clean. Nice staff. Comfy beds
- Carla (10/5): - Easy check in and out
- Joel (2/5): - Parking lots full. We wait 1 houre for an space. The floors and the elevators dirty. The police was in the hotel because something happened in a room. Very bad experience.
- Robert (10/5): - Super kind staff! very welcoming
- Lisa (8/5): - You have to pay to park, which is normally not a problem except the QR code doesn’t work, the text function doesn’t work and you’re left with having to email the company. Seems like a lot of work for something that should just be handled at the front desk. Still not sure we’ve done it right and hope we don’t get towed.
- Ezekiel (10/5): - Very nice rooms friendly staff and snack bar was not expensive will be back again
- Asya (10/5): - Perfect location to everything and the room was clean and super friendly staff.
- Cody (10/5): - Breakfast
- Louis (10/5): - Lovely staff, clean, 24 hour manned front desk- easy drive to everywhere in Columbia!
- Tiffanie (10/5): - Only thing is the walls are thin. Car outside in the middle of the night reving his engine.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Overall Stay Was Ok - We were placed in a 'handicapped' room. After a shower in the shower stall (with a flimsy shower curtain), water flowed on to the bathroom floor and into the room! The night associate came up with a mop & bucket. After realizing we were in a handicap room (which I did not request), we were moved to a room, that had a bathroom with a shower door. Also, we were very disappointed that there was no closet, dresser, clock, and only one chair, no art work on the walls, it seems we were in a box! Not a very comfortable atmosphere. Overall the staff was helpful & informative, and the lobby and breakfast were good.
- kristi (10/5): Would Stay Again - Clean, quiet. Parking is a bit crazy but is on property. Tesla chargers available
- Jennifer (10/5): - Clean, new hotel. Love the hard wood floors in the rooms. Downstairs has a lot of amenities. Staff was very nice and willing to help meet your needs. Will stay again!
- Maureen (10/5): - Ridiculous to pay for PARKING
- LAZARO M (10/5): - The amazing place
- Jory (8/5): - Stayed 5 nights to help my son move from Michigan to South Carolina to attend Allen University! I would’ve given this Hotel 5 stars… BUT….parking is terrible! More parking space is definitely needed!
- Anoop (10/5): Great Stay - Very well maintained property. Staff is very professional and courteous. Breakfast was very good. Would definitely come back
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great location
- Tiffany (6/5): - They have a on prem, dedicated parking lot (NOT garage) yet you still have to pay for parking daily. Really my only complaint.
- Kevin (10/5): - Just checked in.
- Deborah (8/5): - Did not like having to pay for parking through third party, very inconvenient! Breakfast was delicious! Probably would not stay again because of parking use!
- Kimberly (10/5): Great stay! - We had a great stay here. Everyone was very friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was great. Would definitely stay there again.
- Denise (10/5): - This hotel is clean and beautiful
- Aaron (10/5): - Friendly staff.
When comparing prices, remember that you have to pay to park here
- athena (10/5): - Lilly at the front desk is the best!!
- Aneesa (10/5): - Definitely would stay here again
- Roberto (10/5): - Everything nice
- Jennifer (10/5): - Conveniently located. Breakfast was excellent! Staff was very pleasant, friendly and helpful.
- Will (10/5): - Love the open space in the middle of the hotel. Great for large gatherings. The room was very nice, clean, and the bathroom was clean and fully stocked.
- Renata (10/5): - Nice place! great breakfast
- Laura (6/5): - Good location. Nice hotel. Check in should have been easy but took 2 hours to get a room.
- Naseer (10/5): - Every thing good but shampoo problem not good
- Jennifer (10/5): Fantastic Location & Comfort - The visit was fantastic with location and comfort. No coffee pot in rooms, so be warned that you may want to bring your own unless you are okay with the lobby. Elevators take a while if hotel is busy. Breakfast and service in the mornings for breakfast was amazing!!!
- Chukwuemeka (10/5): - Amazing
- Kimberly (10/5): Must stay! - I've stayed at so many hotels in Columbia during my daughter's 4 years at USC. Just moved her in for graduate school, and this was my favorite. Everyone raves about The Graduate, while it has its charm, I enjoyed my stay here far more. The hotel felt so clean and everyone (except perhaps the front desk guy who checked us in late at night) ywas incredibly nice and accommodating. I've stayed at most of the nicer hotels in the downtown and Harbison area, and though Tru is considered a no frills brand, I thought you were exceptional. One of the best free breakfasts we have ever had (amazing carnitas!) Best part of breakfast was this wonderful couple that was working the breakfast area. They were so friendly, fun and helpful. We felt like this woman was our personal waitress. We felt so well cared for for our entire 4 night stay. Hoping to stay with you for her graduation in May. Unfortunately we may have to find a less expensive option further away that weekend. Keep up the great work!
- Stacy (10/5): - Excellent visit
- Courtney (10/5): - Feels new, very clean, nice features in the room, very good breakfast
- George (2/5): - Staff unfriendly
- Christian (8/5): - Paying for parking at the hotel premises should be included for guests, besides that everything was good.
- Pamela (10/5): - The hotel was wonderful. Our room was so comfortable the front desk staff were extremely friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
- Theresa (8/5): - There was a baseball tournament that was staying at the hotel - kids running all over and it was noisy.
- Courtney (10/5): - One of thr best hotels ive stayed in. Clean, great breakfast
- Madrena (10/5): - Wonderful stay! Busy due to Little World Series but over a wonderful stay
- coreena (8/5): - Stop charging for parking we spent the money to be there, no reason to have to pay to park. The beds need new mattresses.
- Marsha (8/5): - Staff was very professional! Beautiful lobby but $12 a night for parking is terrible!
- Hynrie Emerlou (10/5): - Very clean and comfy place. Good breakfast, really enjoyed it.
- Fabiola Cortina (10/5): - Upon arrival we were greeting with a very warm welcome at the front desk. Hotel was extremely clean, quiet and the bed and pillows were comfortable. There are a few food options in walking distance and also a Publix right across the street. They also had a managers appreciation little dinner for all guest, it was really nice. I would definitely stay here again.
- Deborah (4/5): - Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
I’ve always chosen Hilton for reliability and comfort, but this stay was a major disappointment.
Upon entering my room, I discovered a roach, which understandably made me very uncomfortable. I had to request a room transfer. In addition, I originally booked a two-queen bed room but asked if I could switch to a one-bed room. I was told there were none available, only to hear staff offering a one-bed room to another guest moments later. When I asked about it, I was told it was because I had booked through a third party—this felt unfair and dismissive.
To add to the frustration, the coffee station offered cold coffee, which I had to throw out.
The one positive part of my stay was the overnight staff member—she was extremely kind, helpful, and genuinely made an effort to greet guests by name. Her hospitality stood out and was greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, the overall experience did not meet the standards I expect from Hilton.
- Shannon (6/5): - I didn't like having to pay for parking.... RIDICULOUS
- emily (10/5): - 1st, as always, Hiltons have the most comfortable beds and excellent water pressure (which is important). I was recently in Columbia SC for a conference
- Stephanie (10/5): - Enjoyed stay. Very clean. Pleasant customer service.
- TERRI (10/5): - Nice property. Centrally locted to restaurants and attractions. Clean room. Comfy bed. Great amenities. Staff was awesome. Only complaint is handicap permits/plates were not excluded from parking charge. However, I will eturn to stay at property again.
- Christina (10/5): - They staff was so nice and welcoming. But I did not like having to pay to park on the site.
- Curlena (10/5): - Normally, I would not give any hotel all 5 stars in every category. However, this hotel deserves more than 5 stars. If i could give this hotel 9 stars i would. The staff was amazing with EXCELLENT customer services. Mrs. Jackie (breakfast cleaning lady I believe that was her name) she was so sweet and funny. The breakfast was amazing and good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had to make a pitstop out of town and
- Josh (10/5): Fantastic - Front desk service was amazing and fairly quick. Rooms were awesome and cozy for us as well!
- JACOB (10/5): - Breakfast was great, rooms clean and everything was really nice, only problem we had was they had 3 elevators and only 1 worked. Having 7 floors meant it took such a long time to get to room or to leave. But other then that was a great place
- Glenda (10/5): Best place to stay - There breakfast was very good this is the place to stay pet friendly quite very clean
- Catherine (10/5): - This was the nicest Tru property we have stayed in. The gym facility was nice, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was top notch.
- JAMES (8/5): - Staff was fantastic
- Cheryle (8/5): - They offer a.full breakfast the staff is so friendly. There was not a pool on site but we found other things to do.
- Marcella May (10/5): - Best breakfast! I like the simplicity of the rooms because I feel like they are easier to keep clean (minimal furniture, hard-surface flooring, etc.) and the lobby area with the bar was always lively.
- Joseph (10/5): - The lobby area was great for our purposes. We meet with family that lived locally in the hotel lobby and they were very supportive of our being there. There was a $12.00 charge for overnight parking on the hotel lot that was unexpected.
- Yolanda (10/5): - Don't let me get started I loved everything about this Tru Hilton Hotel. The room was spacious and everything looked new, full hot breakfast ,parking almost to the door and museums, entertainment and places to eat galore. Thank you staff for a wonderful time. Yolanda
- Dorothy (10/5): - Nice an clean
- Earl (8/5): - The place was looked very nice but the room kept making noise from the fridge and the pillows were to soft and it was hard to sleep with them
- Robert (10/5): - Clean, modern. Good enough breakfast. No microwave or coffee maker in room. No pool.
- Louis (8/5): - They need to improve their service. Check-in is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., and even though we arrived at the hotel at 5:00 p.m., the room wasn't ready, and we had to wait until 6:30 p.m. to get in. However, the delay wasn't compensated in any way even though we asked to check out a little later, it was denied. We asked twice for the used towels to be replaced and received no service.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful property! Staff was very helpful!
- Arghavan (10/5): - Great staff. Clean rooms and great breakfast.
- Melissa (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay, the rooms were clean, staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great. The only complaint would be having to pay for parking each day of the stay. One would assume parking would be included with the price of the stay?
- Jerrie (10/5): - Everything was great!
- Daisy (10/5): - I love how the common areas were setup. The bar and grill not to mention the outside area. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
- Dena (6/5): - The hotel itself is nice, but having to pay $12 to park at a hotel I'm already paying for a room at is ridiculous.
- Kevin (8/5): - Scrims for windows with no functioning light-blocking shades or curtains is pretty miserable for east-facing room where you get full sun at dawn.
- Trey (10/5): - Great stay
- Tricia (8/5): Orientation - Staff members were friendly and helpful
- jesus (10/5): - Everything was great for the price except for parking fee on an open lot that was a surprise. The fee added about $25 to staying in the hotel.
- Theresa (10/5): Exceptional Stay - Exceptionally clean and updated!
