Guest Reviews
- Sarah (10/5): - Perfect room and location. We will book again next time we are in Whitby and recommend to friends too. The room only works perfectly, but dont leave your key in the room like we did!! Housekeeper was amazingly and came and let us in, thanks so much!!
- Jane (10/5): - I really liked this, used to live in Whitby so like coming home. The food is excellent apart from Trenchers which was down on last years although the service was good.
My bedroom was superb - beautifully done using all options there for you.
Many thanks for a lovely time. Jane Brown
- Sally (8/5): - Check in was effortless with a keysafe and communication with the code was easy.
Room and en-suite shower room very clean.
The shower itself was a small cubicle and my partner, broad shouldered man, had a bit of a tight fit using it.
Curtains didn't stop any light so from daybreak at 5am the room was too bright.
Double room for two nights with coffee tea and kettle were very important for us, however the coffee consisted of 6 small sachets of Nescafe which we used the first day and nothing was topped up - I bought a jar of coffee.
This was marketed as a Deluxe room, but really it was only standard.
- David (4/5): - Spacious room(5)
£137 to expensive
No sockets they were hid behind bed
Toilet door hadle hanging off
Toilet not flushing properly
No way a deluxe room
Too noisey and banging on floor from above most of night.
Wont be staying there again
I thought we would be getting continental breakfast at that cost
None existent staff
Disappointed 100%
- Dean (2/5): - I booked and paid for a room with city view. I got a basement room with no view. The landlord failed to respond to my texts trying to sort the room. Landlord could not be bothered poor property poor room poor experience
- B (8/5): Lovely guest house - Stay on top floor, lots of stairs to climb, my husband had to help a couple with their cases as they struggled with the steps and carring their suitcase, would recommend booking lower ground floors if limited mobility, otherwise a lovely guest house, keys in a box ready for you to pick up, communcation via text and emails. Just a niggle from me would like to have seen a selection of herbal teas as i dont drink tea of coffee, a good 5 mins walk to the town but we knew this on booking so didnt bother us.
- Gillian (10/5): H - The room was great for our needs, very spacious with comfortable beds and a large bathroom. I was holidaying with my teenage granddaughter and the twin beds gave us plenty of room.
It was about a 10 minute walk to the harbour (anout 30 minutes to walk back, it's a very steep hill! Dont believe google maps that says mostly flat!)
There is a bus stop outside the hotel but we didn't use it. However, on our last evenung we had a taxi and it was £4.50.
- Daphne (6/5): - Room 10. The shower did not work and obviously hasn't as the cord to switch on is not just broken but has been removed.
Otherwise the room was ok.
- Alina (8/5): Elford House - The stay was comfortable the only thing was that we were there with our dog but were put in a top floor room. I did try to change rooms but they were the only dog friendly room available which made things slightly difficult taking dog out on bathroom breaks.
- Ken (6/5): - The check in procedure was bad. No person on hand to give me information or door key. The access code and room number were only provided a few minutes before check in time. This gave me a lot of concern before arriving. Also could not get in touch with anyone by phone.
- Julie (6/5): Met Expectations - Room was ok, met expectations for the value. Priority for us was parking on-site. Bathroom modern and clean, room was very spacious. Would have been nice to have a King-size bed rather than double.
Stairs / Landing could do with some modernisation.
- Steve (10/5): Elford house, fantastic value - Can't fault the place, had 11 of us, not one complaint, if in whitby again we will stay here.
- David (6/5): - Very nice place, quiet and peaceful, however the room was advertised as double deluxe room but the room was tiny, very nice but tiny
- Craig (10/5): - Self check in details sent in good time and the process was painless. Room a little compact for a deluxe room and not sure which city i was seeing from the "city view" but all i could see was the house next door.
- Norbert (6/5): - Our reservation was for a room with a city view. We were put in a basement suit. Nor was housekeeping on a daily basis. Another guest we chatted with mentioned that certain other representations were not accurate. So, buyer beware.
- Bornali (8/5): - it was good.
- Carolyn (6/5): - Only booked the day before due to unforeseen visit to Whitby. When booking my selection was for a dog friendly room and was advertised as a Deluxe Double. We were allocated room 10 on the third floor, there is nothing deluxe about this room, it is tiny, have to shimmy on one side to get into the bed, couldn’t swing a cat in there and the bathroom is so small bending over to dry you bang your backside on the wall or door, lights go out when you switch the low power shower on !! The blind doesn’t work so the flimsy curtains let all the light in. The bed is very uncomfortable, on the up side the hotel and rooms are lovely and clean. As regular visitors to Whitby we won’t stay here again and was disappointed as only half the rooms taken so surely we could have been allocated a much better, as described and paid for deluxe room. Since leaving I have read several disappointed reviews of room 10, think this is been miss sold.
- Stefan (8/5): - Great stay, only the water pressure in the shower was a bit low, apart from that , top hotel 👍👍👍
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely place to stay - We stayed in room 8. It was much bigger than what we were expecting.
Very comfortable bed and lovely shower.
Plenty of tea/coffee/sugar supplied for our stay. Good amount of clothes hangers provided too.
Only negative thing was the sofa in the room. It's most definitely seen better days. It was covered with throw overs, which was fine, but after sitting on it , we realised we were covered in small black bits. The throw over had slipped down and revealed the leather peeling off all over. Hence what all the bits were.
Other than that, we had the perfect stay.
Elford is in a good location, with ample parking spaces. Literally a 10 minute walk to the harbour.
- Freda (6/5): - difficulty to open the door by self service
- jamie (10/5): Jamie mallin - Lovely clean place with parking, very near harbour.nice room and easy to access. I will stay again.
- chris (10/5): - Beautiful. Very pleasant room fantastic
- Greg (4/5): - Room 10 was cramped, low ceiling ,uncomfortable bed..avoid
- Javier (4/5): - When booking I selected a ‘Deluxe’ double room, City View. When I arrived I was allocated room 10 and the housekeeper said ‘10 is small and you have a dog’ but did not offer us a different room. The room we stayed in was small and had a small double bed in it. The listing for a deluxe double room states that there is a queen bed and that the room is 151 sq feet. The room we stayed in was no more than 4 steps from the door to the bed and there is a foot of room from the bottom of the bed to the dressing table. The city view we got was the view of the neighbouring property. Therefore, I would say this property is not as listed as even the images are misleading with the option I booked having a sofa in the middle of the room which would not have fit in the room I was in.
On the plus side parking is very convenient and the room was clean
- Ralph (10/5): - A beautiful home with a central location. Room was very clean and comfortable. We would definately stay again!
- Alan (6/5): - Having paid and been receipted forca twin room with city view was disappointed to find wevhad been allocated small basement room. Im sure the intermittent macerator annoyed others as much as it did us. Very clean and tidy otherwise.
- Kris (10/5): Great hotel - Can’t fault it at all. Received a text on the morning with check in instructions. Great location, lovely room very clean & tidy. Will definitely stay again
