Guest Reviews
- Shelley (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely rooms all clean and staff very friendly. Would stay again
- Mark (4/5): - Was like the Marie Celeste on entering. No facilities available . Hotel looked very tired and dated. Didn,t feel safe as young men loitering around entrance. Had been unaware hotel had been used as refugee/migrant accommodation in past or wouldn,t have booked
- Jacqueline (8/5): Would be happy to stay again. - This is an independent, family owned hotel which was obviously quite grand in the past and which is conveniently just minutes from the A1. Whilst the decor is showing signs of being dated, everywhere was very clean. Our room was spacious enough to have a small table and chairs, well equipped, and with a modern shower room having a large shower cubicle. We were met by a happy and informative receptionist. We were only on an overnight stay on our way back from Scotland to London, but would be happy to stay again if the need arose. Currently there are no restaurant facilities but we were informed that they are hoping to offer breakfast in the near future.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Tired and shabby, No facilities available. Didn,t feel safe due to men loitering around outside . Would not have booked if had been aware it had been used as migrant/refugee accommodation.
- Camilla (6/5): - The hotel smelt
- Andy (10/5): - The hotel was good value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was excellent (119) with king size bed and plenty of room. The bathroom was newly decorated and the shower very good.
The room, corridors and reception area were clean and tidy.
The only negative is that there is no food on site and the leisure facilities are no longer open and will probably never re-open.
Food and drink can be found nearby at The Farrier attached to the Premier Inn which was nearly double the price for a nights stay. People who we were meeting stayed there and were disappointed as it was noisy. In contrast, we found The Urban was very quiet.
In summary, I would recommend people to stay here whether they are on a business or leisure trip.
- GARY (2/5): Don’t Book Without knowing - No facilities, pool closed, gym closed, restaurant closed
- Stephen (8/5): - Okay the Hotel is just starting up again undernew owners so you know you can't expect the Ritz, but for what we paid £80 for a room with two doulble beds, coffee and tea facilities,TV, free internet, trouser press, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, electric heater.
The bathroom did not have a bath, rather an amazing double shower with unending hot water and super clean white towels.
The receptionist was so polite and courteous as was the night security person.
There was plenty of parking and disabled bays.
As I mentioned the hotel is under new management,so to some it could look a bit tired and maybe do with a deep clean, but it was just great for our stay.
We wish you all well, and thank you for letting us know we left some things behind and helped us to arrange collection

- Susanna (8/5): - Excellent conference venue BUT very shocked that there was no restaurant or bar available. I had to go and explore Grantham to find a supermarket to purchase some provisions
- Anthony (6/5): - The hotel generally looks a bit tired. The bar opens ad hoc and there is nothing on draft, therefore you are left with cans or bottles, which considering the level/condition of the hotel are quite expensive. On my recent stay the boiler had been turned off and I had to wait for a couple of hours after coming back in from working to have a shower.
- Leigh (10/5): - Had a great stay at the Urban. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was very clean, and the bed was super soft and comfy.
Given the location, it was surprisingly peaceful and quiet, with road noise at a minimum within the hotel. Great transport links, and a lovely walk into town.
- Ross (8/5): - Room comfortable
- Nigel (8/5): - It was ok but no bar or kitchen
- John (8/5): - Good
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Room very dated but clean and tidy and very spaces and would book again. Great value for money
- Jake (10/5): - ..
- Brian (8/5): - An old and dated very large hotel looking very tired inside, but our room had most things we required and a comfortable bed. Spacious bathroom with places to store the normal toiletries, unlike our earlier stay in a Travelodge.
It is such a pity that this hotel has a black mark against its future with the closure of the restaurant and other facilities.
- Andrew (10/5): - Just acreally pleasant quiet stay for one night. Great staff. And a very good nights sleep
- Lorraine (10/5): - Nice rooms. Excellent value for money. Unfortunately, being renovated so no option for food at the moment. Comfy beds, clean white towels.
- Lisa (2/5): - The most dirty hotel I have ever seen I was actually horrified that this hotel is alowed to operate
- helena (10/5): - I had an amazing relaxing night at the Urban rRetreat Hotel Grantham. The receptionist was lovely and even upgraded my room. I slept so well due to the feelings of luxury and safety. I look forward to returning in a couple of weeks. The hotel was very good value. Cheapest with own bathroom in Grantham though no one would ever know !1
- Ian (10/5): - Convenient location, great staff, comfortable bed
- Steve (8/5): - Friendly staff on arrival...clean spacious room
- June (8/5): - A little dated but clean and good comfy beds.
Very close to Arena uk and half the price of the so called budget hotel 5 minutes away!
- Georgina (8/5): Much better than expected! - Room (Board room 4 & 3) had 2 double beds and new bathroom. A/c doesn’t work No facilities: no restaurant or bar so room only. Long walking distance to town but no problems getting a taxi. Only annoyed about having paid £61 but could have got the room for £45.
- Nick (10/5): - Check-in was friendly and helpful and accommodating, the lobby area was spacious and open, my bedroom was large/spacious/clean. The bathroom was clean with an excellent shower and facilities.
(NB: The hotel has recently acquired new owners and an extensive renovation has commenced and as a result not all areas are accessible/usable ...... YET!)
There is no restaurant or room service available other than beverage facilities in the room.
The grounds surrounding the hotel desperately need work and tidying up.
HOWEVER, work is visibly in progress and the staff that are on site excel in customer service. The hotel is definitely on the way up!
I would recommend it unreservedly👍👍👍👍
- Kevin (6/5): Nothing to do - No food options, no food or bar at all, not even breakfast. The hotel is like the one from the Shining, empty. Mind you it is very cheap. Certainly would have been a good hotel in it's heyday, but very much on it's last legs.
- Christopher (6/5): - A little run down but suitable for a brief work trip
- Simon (4/5): - It was cheap, and the bed was comfy. That was all the pros.
No food available as the restaurant has been closed for refurb, for quite some time now. The room hadn’t been used for a while, as there was a layer of dust on everything. Stains on the armchairs, a hole on the divan, and the ceiling had dull line for the rafters.
I wasn’t expected 5 star, as it was cheap. But it felt really cheap.
- ROY (10/5): Possibly the best VFM hotel I have stayed in! - Excellent short, one night stop here, arrived about 1800, check in was smooth and quick, staff helpful and friendly, only a short walk to the room. The room was massive clean and the bed very comfortable. It was Sunday night and there was a painter in the corridor decorating, but quiet and no bother. Room had all the expected; toiletries, towels, Wi-Fi, large tv and even a trouser press.
We were up and out at 0600 the next morning to race in a local triathlon at Belvoir Castle, night porter was cheerful and polite as we left.
It’s easy to find, just off the motorway, has a pub only a 2min drive away for food and Grantham and Belvoir Castle close by.
VFM this has to be one of the best one night stops I’ve had in a hotel, it was less than £60 on hotels.com and I don’t have anything negative to say. Will definitely use again when I’m in the area.
- Marcus (6/5): - Good value
- Damien (8/5): Clean and cool - Good clean room, cool inside when 34 outside and big shower. Exactly what I needed for a race weekend.
- Vicky (8/5): - Staff friendly, shower room appeared new. Beds comfortable. Decor a bit dated and worn. Would happily stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location for using Fulbeck karting circuit - The room was clean and spacious. We had a boardroom. The staff were friendly. No food or drinks available at the hotel which we knew in advance. However plenty of places close by.
- ELIZABETH (8/5): Great nights sleep - Good location. Large room. Very comfortable bed.
- Ashley (4/5): - Arrived at 1am, got to the room and found it was not what we had booked. The room we required was not available. The shower only had one temperature and that was scolding hot so couldn’t be used. After speaking to reception (whom the staff were lovely couldn’t fault them) they was unable to provide us a different room that night but managed to change us to a family room for our second night stay. Rooms are dated, beds were comfortable.
- Jamie (6/5): - Bart
- Andrew (8/5): - Came later in the evening so didn’t have a chance to really look round outside. The rooms are big slightly dated but clean the bathroom is excellent.
- David (6/5): Good value and no frills - free parking - impressive reception area - but carpet quality is poor in hallways. Our room was decent size with TV and shower area [all looks new] and the room was pleasantly cool as the temp outside was 30C and there is no air con in the room. Bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. At £63 for the night we thought it very good value.
The only down side is that there is no on site restaurant for evening or breakfast but there is a restaurant nearby.
- Flavio (8/5): - Very peaceful. Staff are friendly and very informative. Shame you can't get breakfast here.
- Margaret (8/5): - We have stayed at this hotel a few times . We have always had a good experience. The thing that lets this hotel down is how scruffy it is around the hotel.
- Alec (6/5): - The Urban Leisure Grantham has so much potential and at first glance looks smart and welcoming but in truth there is very little attention to detail paid to fixtures and fittings and despite reporting a significant safety issue immediately upon checking in, this had still not been resolved two days later when checking out.
Plug socket damaged - unsafe and risk of electrocution.
Key card door lock not functional.
“Double” bed was two singles of differing heights pushed together.
Chair useless as bottom had fallen out of it.
Table wonky with the top loose.
Fan promised by receptionist on hottest day of the year never materialised.
“Damage must have been caused by previous occupants” is only valid so far!
- Anthony (8/5): Dated but decent - Starting with the positives... great customer service... front desk super friendly. Clean property and temp control fine. Down sides... room is pretty dated and the bed is pretty soft. For the money not too bad.
- Verified traveler (6/5): It is what it is - Hotel is what it is. Rather dated but clean and perfunctory. Perfect for a stopover to break a journey. No breakfast or other food available. Bathroom and bedroom were clean. Bed not very comfortable: mattresses old and worn. If you're not expecting anything flashy it is fine.
- Doug (6/5): - I presume this property will be undergoing a program of refurbishment as it is so dated. Comfortable bed & convenient but needs a definite upgrade
- Bridget (8/5): - The room was spacious & comfortable.
Bed very comfortable.
Bathroom sink could have been cleaned better, but the rest of it was clean.
It would have been better if we could have had breakfast there & the outside garden was available to sit in.
All the staff were excellent & we would stay again.
- Ronald (10/5): - We loved everything about it only thing that was disappointing was no restaurant open at that moment of time
- Victoria (10/5): - Staff were very friendly and helpful.
My room was very clean, well equipped with everything I could have needed. Quiet, a comfortable bed and a great powerful shower!
Free parking. Very accessible, very affordable,
The only downside was no food but there was a lovely restaurant just a few minutes walk up the road.
Would definitely stay again :)
- Denise (8/5): - Staff were excellent and professional. They made us feel very welcoming.
Yes, its a bit dated but the rooms are clean, big, and the bed was comfortable.
The bathroom looked new and the shower was amazing
- linda (8/5): - Was a perfect location and had a great sleep.
- Nicola (6/5): - Looks very very run down from outside but rooms were comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly. My only downside was I was charged three times for my stay
- Catherine (8/5): Good night stay - Was very comfortable and spacious. The decor could do with an update but had all facilities we needed. Nice comfy beds and shower was nice and powerful. Would stay again. We had a family of 4 and plenty of room.
- Sue (10/5): - Lovely property. Friendly helpful staff. Quiet. Easy access to places nearby. Will hopefully return if we have to come south again. Reasonable price as well.
- Mark (6/5): Urban Leisure Hotel, Grantham - We only stayed one night, and arrived late, after 10:30 p.m.
Unfortunately, the heating had not been switched on, and the room was very cold. Neither of slept well because of the cold, so I'm sorry to say we did not enjoy our stay. The room itself was very nice, clean, and the beds were good. The shower was excellent too.
- Chris (2/5): Awful - Never again! When I arrived they had no record of my booking, even though I showed them the booking confirmation. After almost an hour they agreed to give me a room. When we were in the room it was freezing, it was -2 in the room, we tried the heating but it didn’t work. Asked reception to move us but they said they didn’t have any other rooms made up. We left at 6am because we couldn’t stand the cold.
