Guest Reviews
- Billy (8/5): - Very clean and presented nicely. Plenty on space for parking and well lite area. Would definitely stay again.
- Samsan (6/5): - The bunker bed not meet the standard heights for 2 adults
- Peter (6/5): - poor wifi, hit or miss heating system
- Paul (10/5): - This was such a great little space. It was so clean and so quiet. It was a few steps from a convenience store. I would recommend this place to others!
- Christine (4/5): - This place looked like a construction site and smelt like Pot. Albeit clean, the beds were saggy & click clacks, no cutlery. Stains on the carpet. For the money we spent we have stayed in better accommodation. It’s a shame. They can do a lot with that place.
- Britton (10/5): - Easy to check in.
- Leanne (6/5): - Accommodation is basic but everything was as advertised. Had a fabulous dinner at The Station.
- Fasih (8/5): - These are single units with queen + single + bunk beds all in one room with an attached bathroom. The area is green and if you are exploring the highlands, this place on yiur way back is great for the price as well as what it offers.
- Carolyn (10/5): - Lovely chalet, very cozy off the highway, very quiet. Had a little trouble finding it, but once I saw the ox hotel and the spar supermarmarket went down driveway between them and turned right there they were. Lots of room to drive in and park by the chalets. There is a coffee shop and a pub down the road to eat and drink at. Was all I needed for 2 nights and a day to explore.
- Paul (10/5): - Very pleasant accommodation in a quiet area, near to a bus stop and the railway station. The room was clean, bed was comfy, the room heated up quickly, there is a kettle in the room and there's plenty of parking. Only minor points are it would be nice to have a fridge in the room and some coat hooks!
- ruth (8/5): - If you're looking for a 5 star experience this isn't for you.... but considering the price, it is excellent value. I paid £75 per night for a chalet, which were really clean, with ample parking right outside your door. I was worried it might be cold at night but it was warm with no drafts.
It has everything you need.... heater, decent tv, wifi, kettle, towels etc, it could just perhaps do with a bit of love. The bathroom in paticular could be finished a little better, and i had a light out in the toilet.
Checking in was really simple with clear instructions and a number to call for any issues. The spar nearby is really handy, although the lack of nightlife is disappointing if you're looking for a take away or bite to eat / local pub.
Overall it's a great location, just 15 minutes from Fort William and I would definitely stay again.
- Lysandre (10/5): - The stay was amazing and the establishment was awesome, the only down points are that the twin bed seemed old as we felt the spring directly through the matress and there were no toileteries. Other than that it was amazing!
- Kai (10/5): - Nice cabin with many sleeping space. Convenient store right at the corner.
- Tianjie (6/5): - The price is good. I stayed in 2 different rooms for 2 nights. One room had sprung mattresses and the springs were broken. The other room had memory foam mattresses but both beds I tried had lots of sagging at the hip. The shower water would leak out from the edge despite I didn't have any spillage.
- Li (6/5): - The price is very reasonable, you get what you paid. The tap is very stiff in our room.
- Yanill (2/5): - There’s no WiFi and the place smelled like urine. The hotel has been closed multiple times due to illegal activity so when you arrive the chalets are only open for self-check-in because the rest of the property cannot operate.
- Alpesh (8/5): - Quiet and Convenient
- Antonio (8/5): - We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed the overall experience. The rooms had a really cozy vibe and everything was super clean . The staff also came to clean our room after the second night of stay. There were some minor issues such as the fan of the bathroom not working and the doors quite hard to open/close but nothing terrible.
Recommended if you are planning to visit the highlands.
- Alpesh (8/5): - quiet and convenient
- Jaspreet (6/5): - It was ok.
Plus: clean and comfortable. Enough parking.
Minus: window didn't open, bathroom door didn't close, noisy because one group of people stayed up late and were loud (couldn't sleep), and wifi didn't work.
Overall, not worthwhile.
- Ng (10/5): - Good
- Brandy (10/5): - Room was clean, walking distance to dining options (reservations are a good idea for the old station restaurant). Great location for sight seeing
- Szymon (2/5): - No wi
- Johnathan (10/5): - Stunning area for a Highlands stay. Fantastic price for a really neatly kept chalet. Our family of four were very comfortable. Kettle, coffee and tea for the morning and super cozy space heater for the cool highland morning.
- Alessandro (6/5): - Pochi supporti per appoggiare valige ed oggetti e se gli ospiti sono 4 almeno 4 sedie. WIFI solo nelle parti comuni....nel 2025 deve essere nella stanza
- Verified traveler (10/5): Noce place to stay! - Excellent!!!
- Kevin (10/5): - We loved being able to park for free just outside the door as well as the space that we had in the chalet.
- Aditya (10/5): - The room was very clean and comfortable. Very conveniently located near the highway.
- Emma (10/5): Great accommodation! - Perfect lodges for a few nights stay to explore the area. Clean, cosy and comfortable. Good location and easy to find. Would stay again & recommended to others.
- Mrs M W (8/5): - Chalet was clean and had everything needed for an overnight stay. Hotel info t of property was very rundown which made the place look un inviting.
Overall a good place to stay.
- Timothy (8/5): Dated, but clean and comfortable - Simple but comfortable.
Clean. Everything consistent with how it was presented online.
- Lisa (10/5): - These accommodations were a hidden jewel. Comfortable beds, clean linens, clean bathroom, lovely shortbread. Couldn’t ask for better accommodations for the price perfect for a stop over or as a central hub for a couple of nights.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Acceptable accommodation near Fort William. A convenient store nearby is a selling point. the mattress of the bunk bed are terrible, but the double bed is ok.
toilet and shower condition is acceptable.
- Karolína (8/5): - It was cleaned and we have all what we need to stayed.
- dinshid (10/5): - Amazing and spacious property, easy check in
- Seoknam (8/5): - It was great that my family could freely use the private facilities without any outside interference, such as entering and exiting.
- Wassim (10/5): - A great chalet to stay in for a short/long break; clean indoors and great extra space outdoors; safe for kids to play around.
You will meet one of team members on site, Dorota, she looked after us very well!
We will visit again...
- Katherine (10/5): - We had a very nice stay at this property. The instructions prior to arrival were perfect. My son loved the bunk beds and the wood chalet style.
- Parvez (8/5): - Cozy, quiet, and clean chalet.
- Karrie (10/5): Better than expected! - Nice and roomie, plenty of space, very clean. Easy check in and check out. Very comfortable place to stay. Nice and easy walking distance to a shop and a restaurant. Super easy parking right outside the room door. Beautiful area to visit.
- Aurangzeb (8/5): - Chalet accommodation nice and cosy
- Emma (10/5): - Very easy check in to a clean and spacious room for the price. Only drawback was that our extractor fan in the bathroom was not functioning.
- Sarah (10/5): Base for Ben Nevis - Used as a base to climb Ben Nevis which was a 15 min drive away. We just needed somewhere else o have a few hours sleep and sort out kit out. It was spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed. Easy to leave early hours as car right outside door and lock box to leave the key right outside. Only complaint was the shower pressure wasn’t good. Would definitely stay again
- Sara (10/5): - Basically separate little cabins- very spacious with a full bed, twin bunk bed, couch, sink/kitchenette, and bathroom. Parking spot in front of each cabin. Excellent very soft bedding. Our heating unit wasn’t working- called and she was over in 2 minutes with a new one! Excellent service.
- Christopher (10/5): Great comfy chalet - The Chalets at the Ox Hotel are fab, super comfy bed loads of tea and coffee, plenty of electric outlets, the perfect place to hide from Storm Floris
- James (2/5): - It was not made clear that there would be no reception desk for this property and the e-mail explaining how to get into the room went to spam, so I nearly gave up and looked for another hotel. A sign explaining the situation would have prevented all the panic.
- Sarah (4/5): - Stay started well. Room a bit worn but clean. Next morning apparent shower not working. Phoned number for help……still waiting for an answer 5 days later. Not impressed. Paid for en-suite that didn’t work, things happen but no apology is unacceptable.
- David (8/5): - Toilet seat was loose in 8 but great comfortable stay for party
- Akshay (2/5): Nightmare. Unsafe! Lack of communication. - The main door didn’t lock. It was an extremely unsafe unit. Anyone could have opened the door from outside. We had little kids and didn’t feel safe at all. The property is unmanned so no one could help immediately. Sent several messages to them but didn’t hear back. We had to ultimately leave the unit later in the evening. Had a hard time finding alternate options (all in difficult cities and at last minute expensive charges. Kids suffered a lot because of it. Have asked for full refund.
Their contact responded after more than 24 hrs and several followups later. Said that there was a special way to lock the door that we may not have used. First, we tried everything to lock but couldn’t. Second if there were special instructions about their lock then they should have explicitly stated that. I am waiting for them to issue my refund.
- Theertha (10/5): - Good place to stay
- Charles (2/5): Extremely unpleasant stay - This was an extremely unpleasant experience staying at the chalet of this so-called “hotel.”
During the night of our stay, there was no hot water, as water was continuously leaking from the bottom of the water heater.
I called the emergency number provided, but no one answered. I tried multiple times again the next day, and still, no one picked up.
Also, it seemed the carpets hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time — they were dusty and dirty.
I will not return to this “hotel.” I have never encountered such a terrible situation before.
- Tamra (8/5): - Had a small issue getting into one of the rooms, sorted quickly. handy spot close to Fort William etc.
- Remco (10/5): Nice place to stay for a night / weekend - Unmanned - you get code to the lockbox to access the lodges via email on the day.
Nice enough place to stay for a couple of nights. Basic facilities but no complaints.
Place was clean with plenty fresh towels.
Curtains let through quite a bit of light which was the only downside.
Would recommend
- William (8/5): - Property was basic but very very comfortable -wee gem for 1 or 2 night stay
Only issue - very poor water pressure in electric shower and no fridge..
But easily a great location if visiting FT William - might do again
- Satish (8/5): Wonderful place to stay. - Pros - The chalets were wonderful. Just minutes away from the nevis mountain range/cable car.
Very neatly maintained.
Provided compliments - tea, coffee bags, hot choclate mix, biscuits etc.
Towels were provided as well.
Cons -
Few small things to work upon - bathroom doors latches are not working properly.
Was not able to open window(chalet no 9), no table fan was available and weather was 29 degrees when we stayed.
- Simela (10/5): - The bed was comfy and accessing the property was easy. The cabin was cozy.
- Chayanit (8/5): - Ok for the price
- Lisa (8/5): Spean Bridge - Not quite as expected, the hotel part is closed and was only chalet style room.
- Sara (8/5): - Surprisingly spacious, very clean, comfy bed plenty pillows and a blanket. Description could have been clearer - good facilities eg tv, kettle sofa, chairs. Directions and check-in weren't explained very well but accommodation was excellent value. Internal door lock didn't work but would stay again. Nice restaurant nearby.
- Laura (2/5): Total lack of cleanliness. - I booked for two nights and left after one. I didn’t receive any correspondence regarding my booking, and upon arrival, was met with numerous ‘hotel closed’ signs. So I called the hotel (the person I spoke to on the phone was the single positive thing about my stay - they were delightful), to get information on how to access my room.
The site is obviously mid-renovation, and I don’t quite think they’ve gotten to the single “chalets”, as they’re nowhere near the level of loveliness shown in the photos uploaded by the hotel, or look anywhere near as nice as the other chalets on site.
Upon opening the door, I was greeted by a stale, musty, damp smell, mixed with the smell of rotten rubbish.
The bathroom was old, tired, and had stains on the walls. I refused to shower in it.
There wasn’t a bin in the room.
And outside of the door to my room was a disgusting tin with discarded cigarette ends in it.
I didn’t even want to sleep underneath the covers of the bed, I’d been icked out so much.
The place gives ‘seedy motel’ vibes. I cannot believe the money I paid for this, it’s a disgrace. The absolute worst place I’ve stayed in all my years travelling.
- Alexandra (10/5): - Great little place to stay in between rests for the trip! The room was nice and cozy which made you feel right at home and the beds were comfortable as well. Room was all clean too, with amenities such as a kettle, cups, and some tea and coffee packs. Would stay here again if I came up this way.
- paula (10/5): - This was an amazing stay, comfy beds crisp clean linen even a hairdryer !! Spacious and just a warm cosy feeling a great stay will definitely return a little dated but that’s what made it very comfy !! No need for negative comments as this is very inexpensive for what you get thanks for fantastic stay
- greg (10/5): - Great little place to stay. My wife and I are taking a driving tour of Scotland and we book room at most a day in advance. For the amount we paid, this was by far the best. Best nights sleep I have had the entire time. Really comfortable beds. Nothing fancy, but we did not come to this beautiful country to spend all of our time inside. Really clean and by far the best parking accommodations. Beautiful little town to enjoy an evening walk before turning in.
- Stefan (10/5): - This was our first experience with a self-catering hotel. You get an email with which bungalow is yours and instructions on how to open the door. Once inside, you have a large room with all the amenities. The bed is very comfortable, the room exceptionally clean and the internet speed is outstanding. Parking is in front of your door so you do not have to drag your luggage far. The ONLY thing is, to find the bungalows, you have to go around the facility and enter behind the main hotel building which at this time looks abandoned - probably under renovation (as of June 2025).
- Elaine (8/5): - Better than expected. Booked as was doing the Jacobite train the following day. After checking out hotels in the Fort William area I was appalled at the cost and low standards of hotels ( I'm Scottish ). Came across this in hotels.com and was perfect for our needs. Chalet was a good size, was clean & comfortable bed. Would recommend if in the area.
- Tashiyta (10/5): - Dated and simple but very comfortable, clean and had everything you need. Compared to properties in the Fort William and surrounding areas this was significantly more economical and the accomodation was more than satisfactory. The outdoor area and the old hotel in front of the accomodation look run down which made me concerned when we arrived but once inside we were very happy. The cabin was warm and spotless, the beds were comfortable and we had everything we expected including a smart TV for a late night movie. Not fancy but good value in comparison to the bnb’s/hotels in the area. Would recommend for one or two nights.
- Jaclyn (2/5): Avoid! - Absolutely awful. Broken furniture stacked outside like a bonfire. Burnt ground outside our door where someone had been burning materials. Rusted old bin full to the brim with cigarette butts and discarded cigarette butts all around. Workmen and work vans all around. Stains on carpets and upholstery. Broken furniture and fittings in the chalet. Rubbish dumpsters outside chalet, smelly and needing emptying. The chalet had been cleaned but no amount of cleaning would take away the stains on carpet and upholstery. What looked like feces on the toilet roll! They charged £130 for the night!! Completely unacceptable and I have contacted hotels.com for a refund.
- Craig (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable. Good value for money.
