The host is very arranging and helpful The bathroom is very tiny, but it works fine. Quite noisy because the insolation of window is poor, so we hear the noise from the street and it can be hard to fall asleep

Most Importantly we did search 40+ properties and ended up booking this one because of bug issues in every other property. This property doesnt have bed bugs. Rooms are very clean. Harris was very helpful and attentive. He did help us to manage room from another property. Also he did allow us to wait in lobby since our flight was late.

• Isabell (9/5): Tolle Unterkunft in einer tollen Stadt - Die Lovation direkt über einem Café ist super. Ab 16 Uhr ist man alleine. Die Kommunikation per WhatsApp funktioniert super. Die Handtücher müssten einmal erneuert werden. Sie saugen das das Wasser nicht mehr auf. Ein Wäscheständer zum Aufhängen gewaschener Wäsche wäre wünschenswert.

• Derek (1/5): - Nothing I was contacted by the hotel 2 weeks before my stay saying that I had to stay at a different hotel than the one I booked due to an event occurring at the original one. This was annoying but not the end of the world. However, upon arriving we realized that the second hotel was not even close to the same quality as what we booked. The room was at the top of a steep staircase in the back of a cafe, without multiple amenities that were listed in our original booking. It didn't even have an ensuite bathroom! We contacted the host asking for a refund, which to their credit they did give us, but we then had to book a different hotel for more money than we originally spent. I can't speak about the actual room I booked, as I never got to see it, but I can say that the staff is clearly very inconsiderate if they think this is acceptable treatment.

Es war schmutzig das Bad befand sich ausserhalb vom Zimmer. Außerdem wurde es von anderen benutzt. Das Bad war nicht sauber und das Licht hat auch nicht funktioniert.

The rooms are nice, and it’s very clean. The only downside and it really isn’t it downside is the shared bathrooms however by far the best place I’ve stayed in Penang. One of the shared bathrooms is rather tiny.

• Matthew (6/5): Better than a backpackers - The bed was comfortable and clean. So was the bathroom. Staff were helpful when I couldn't find the bathroom light and came out in person to show me where it was - of course, in the living room! Also contactable through Wattsapp, in time, but when I called their "Emergency numbers", neither one was answered, although the issue with the wifi was eventually sorted out through Wattsapp. I had no problem with road noise as others have mentioned. However, I had to climb 40 steps to get to my room on the top floor. Sketchy area with no people manning the facility and dodgy front door, meaning I felt unsafe. There are strangers walking around in front of your door and you don't know whether they got in the dodgy front door or were guests. I also didn't appreciate the Wattsapp message begging for a 10 rating on this site. Improve the security and facilities and you'll get it.

• Rachel (6/5): Central affordable accomodation for very heavy sleepers - This property is very well located. It is in the city center and nearby most main attractions. The staff messages politely. Communication was easy and efficient. I started writing my review during my first sleepless night at this accomodation. While I thought I had been diligent in reading the reviews, I was clearly misled by the choice of travellers who rated this place exceptional. While it is clean, and the staff is responsive as expected in the service industry, the ground floor suite is literally on the street. While they do provide ear plugs, they only cut out a percentage of the insane levels of noise from the street all night. It did not relent. Motorcycles, cars, trucks, all night long. The room is also a terrible fire risk. One cannot exit the room without plugging in the numbers. The room also has a variety of lit up features both inside and outside which cannot be hidden or turned off, which means the room barely gets dark. We found ways to hang blankets to limit how much direct light we had in our eyes, but this barely affected the brightness.

• Steve (7/5): Great location, lovely room - but drawbacks with bathroom/kitchen - An excellent location in the centre of town, opposite a beautiful Chinese temple. A tastefully-decorated, good-sized room and a nice enclosed balcony. Very private and nicely converted from a traditional 'shop flat' (a flat above a shop), which has retained its character. The host allowed us to leave our luggage prior to check-in, as we arrived in the morning - and then check in earlier. THis was very kind. The room has excellent air-conditioning, is comfortable and has different places to relax/sit. Lack of hot (except the shower). Having to wash hands, shave and wash dishes in the same sink (in cold water). To go to private (lockable) bathroom and kitchen, you need to leave the bedroom and cross a tiny landing. Between the bathroom and bedroom door is the top of the stairs, which are very steep. Kitchen included just 2 small plates, 2 cups, 2 spoons, 2 knives and 2 forks.

They helped us with everything we needed, information, utilities or otherwise. The street can be loud outside, but the host will give you free earplugs so they covered that too.

The stuff is super nice and if you miss something you can just ask, and they will take care of it. They also send you suggestions for what to do in Penang! Check-in is super easy and check-out as well :)

Pour ma part, j’avais une douche et toilette privée qui était assez grande. Celles qui sont partagées sont beaucoup plus petites. Le point qui m’a dérangé le plus, comme d’autres l’ont souligné avant, c’est le bruit. Ma chambre faisait face à la rue et il y avait beaucoup de bruit, même la nuit )moto bruyant qui passe, camion qui ramasse les ordures en milieu de la nuit, autres bruits difficiles à identifier). C’était vraiment déplaisant. Si vous êtes sensibles aux bruits, je vous le déconseille.

Would recommend. Thanks for a great stay! The specific area it was in seemed to have homeless people staying on the sidewalk at night. It wasn’t a huge issue and not really the fault of the owner of Aayu.

The accommodation was spacious, with a private bathroom – everything was clean and well maintained. The internet was fast, and the host was very kind and always available via WhatsApp. Everything worked perfectly, and we would definitely recommend this place and stay again. The only small downside was the mattress – it’s a spring mattress, and you could feel the springs a little bit. You can also hear some noise from the street, but earplugs are provided, which is a nice touch. Overall, we were very satisfied – a lovely place with a caring host and great value for money!

Personnel disponible par sms +++ En famille (trois enfants) nous avions une chambre avec un lit double petite et sans salle de bain. Et une immense chambre avec un lit double (avec un matelas incroyable!!!!!!!), un lit en complément avec salle de bain privative. Un peu de peinture gondolée dans la salle de bain mais ne vous arrêter pas à ça! C'est une vieille bâtisse et c'est ce qui fait tout le charme de cet endroit! Propreté impeccable, clim et ventilateur dans chacune des pièces de la maison. Emplacement idéale nous avons tout fait à pied. Grande cuisine commune avec frigo pr garder nos provisions! nous y avons mangé un soir! je recommande a 100%. Nous avons passé 18 jours en Malaisie , je pense que c'est mon coup de coeur! ras
• Fuensanta (10/5): Muy agradable - Nos cambiaron de alojamiento avisándonos por WhatsApp un par de días antes, sin problema, el alojamiento era bastante similar, de hecho la ubicación del segundo era para mi gusto bastante mejor, junto a restaurantes y cafeterías muy buenos. El personal fue súper amable todo el rato, tienen café, té y bizcocho de cortesía. El sitio es moderno y con todo lo necesario. Por el precio está súper bien. Hay paredes algo deterioradas pero en una ciudad con tanta humedad y lluvia creo que es algo bastante lógico. Por la mañana temprano hay algo de ruido de la calle pero te dejan en la habitación unos tapones, así que es un problema menor.

Aayu accommodated our requests for check-in and check-out to suit in with our travel arrangements and provided a cot with bedding for our 10 month old. Room was spacious and had great airconditioning. Room was nosiey when traffic was busy, however, ear plugs are kindly provided so it didn’t pose any issues for us and our baby slept through fine.

• Summer (7/5): Great location and good service! - Great location and really helpful owner - we were greeted on the way in which was lovely. I had accidentally locked myself out of my room and while I was lucky enough to have my partner with me to help me out - I would have been really stuck if I was on my own. I had tried knocking downstairs for help but there was no response. A phone number in the communal area would have been great way to speed along the process. When we were able to contact the owner, they helped out really quickly which was amazing! Somewhere to place things down would have been great - such as a small side table.

Un planning avec des activités est même fourni pour découvrir penang et sa culture. Pour etre resté 4 mois en Malaisie dans differents logements, c’est la première fois que le service client est aussi bon. Le seul défaut de l’appartement est l’isolation sonore. Des bouchons d’oreilles sont fournis ce qui démontre que le problème est bien connu et qu’il y a une volonté de palier au problème. Cependant en cas de travaux qui arrivent parfois la nuit les bouchons ne sont pas une solutions viable et durable.

Missing information on booking.com so you don’t know what room you’re getting. Ground floor apartment no. 1 - street noise and light at night a problem but good privacy. Room 2 & 3 on level one have better beds and sound proofing. Black bed frames in photos. You may get noise if people are inconsiderate. Private bathroom. #2 is bigger #3 is tiny but beside your room. Shutters block the light better. 4&5 have less sound proofing from other guests. As walls are thin but on the top floor. A sitting room with sofa. So if you are a group ask for rooms 4,5 & 6 Shared bathroom is ridiculously tiny! The bed was too hard. Not comfortable as the other reviews. Curtains don’t block out the light in rooms 1 - 4&5. This needs fixing. Advertise the rooms individually with photos so you can book the room you want. Plus room numbers on your photos!!! That way the reviews match the experience based on the room to manage expectations. They ask for a 10 for reviews - it’s not it’s an 8 at best.

We had an event there over the past weekend, and its strategic location helped us avoid traffic since it was just within walking distance. The place is also very clean and neat — it truly felt like home. If you’re a light sleeper, you might notice some noise from the street — but the owner thoughtfully provided us with earplugs, which helped a lot! Definitely consider this place if you’re looking for a stay within walking distance to the heritage area.

The architecture carries a quiet elegance, reminiscent of European boutique stays, with tasteful touches and a serene atmosphere. The room was well-appointed, clean, and peaceful—ideal for unwinding after a day exploring the vibrant streets of Penang. Its location is excellent, within walking distance to both cultural sites and excellent local eateries. The team was warm and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. A lovely experience overall—I would happily return.

• Paola (1/5): If you wish to have a night sleep don't go there! - 10 min before my scheduled arrival they texted me that my room wasn't available becoue of leaks (can you imagine?!) And moved me into another one that had no glass windows at all, like being in the middle of the road and the area is chaotic. Next day told me i could go in the one I had booked, that had no soundproof at all and is on a very busy street. Same effect as before, couldn't sleep all night even with ear cuffs. Terrible
• Novalina (9/5): Superb - Great location, only a few blocks from Little India and the famous samosas! Appreciate the early check-in, the comfy bed and sheets, the well-equipped common room/dining area, and the room with windows. Soundproofing wasn't great; you could hear your neighbors. That seems to be expected with older buildings in Penang, though.
• Tiong (9/5): Superb - The location is extremely nice and convenient. The staff is very responsible that will reply quickly and try their best to help us. The room provided is very new, pretty, clean and same with the picture provided and also can watch YouTube through their TV. They will also provide the list about recommended food that almost all taste very nice. Don't have lift and since just beside the road so will easily hear the noise of the vehicle
