Guest Reviews
- Dhalai (8/5): - Good value for money, nicely situated location. Free on road parking outside property.
Newly decorated room. Ensuite with tv and tea/coffee. Very contactable hosts. N/A.
- Helena (7/5): Great location, lovely hosts. Needs a re-vamp but this is reflected in the price you pay. - Location and view and hosts. Felt relaxed and safe , knowing i could contact host as I'm a solo traveller plus dog . Really enjoyed my visit and friendly feel. I would definitely go back once its refurbished. The hosts will do a fantastic job as the refurbished room is fabulous ! Definately the mattress needs changing to be more comfortable.comfortable.i knew the bathroom was seperate and it worked ok but not ideal through the night.
A couple of things needed attention but the host was able to fix these quickly.
The place is gradually being refurbished so it's worn down and needs a face-lift!
Outside is unkept , gives the wrong impression . Looks dirty , and rubbish around. This is a huge put off and needs sorted as the outside appearance counts.
- Ruth (9/5): -
- Wayne (4/5): - Couldn't sleep in bed people under our room talking all night was trying to sleep, didn't think it was a family room very small for a family room mis advertising I would say
- Toby (6/5): For the price it did what we expected, yes it could be better but I’ve stayed in much worse places at double the cost, i - Close to Whitby attractions, real easy check in and key collection, cost v accommodation was well worth it The room wasn’t too bad it just looked tired, lots of mastic/silicon used to quick fix but it could do with some attention. From the outside it looked in worse condition than those around it but at this price it’s well worth it
- Stephen (8/5): - If we were to stay again, I would prefer a lower level room. The location and the parking .
- Alan (7/5): Good location for what we needed. - No breakfast, very good location for reason of visit. Appreciate host's were in flux with alterations so not fair to comment yet.
- Gavin (1/5): Terrible experience - Nothing absolutely disgusting Unclean, nothing like the pictures on the internet, treated disgustingly by the so called booking team
- Terence (4/5): Was OK but wouldn't go back to the property - Location The room wasn't up to standard and it look clean but wasn't front door wouldn't lock from the outside so felt unsafe and the front of the property needs so attention to it weeding as clean the windows
- Matt (5/5): -
- Jordan (3/5): Great location but very expensive for what u get. - Location was great Very out dated, wifi didnt work, my bathroom was on the landing so had to go out of my room to go to toilet or shower. Public area stair wells there was lots of thred bare carpets. I was in twin room and one of the beds you could feel the springs. kettle didnt fit under tap in bathroom so couldnt fill it up.
- Ellis (4/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Very good for money - Clean good location staff very helpful
- Samantha (9/5): We will be back!! - Comfy beds, absolutely amazing view of the Abbey.
Good location, relatively quiet. No sink in the room, but still had a private bathroom.
Couldn't get channels on the tv, but that was no biggie.
All in all a terrific stay, Whitby is outstanding and we will be back thank you.
- Andrews (1/5): Room 5 worst place in Whitby we have stayed. - The location was good and sufficient parking, but that's not too hard for this time of year. January. Room 5. There was no heating, complained numerous times, each time being told someone was going to come and have alook. 2 freezing cold nights we had to endure. There were no extra blankets so we had to use towels instead. It was a 4 bed occupancy and only 2 cups, no spoon to stir the drinks. The pillows were really uncomfortable and lumpy and I had to use my daughters teddy to sleep on. Besides all that there was no hot...not even warm water for a shower which literally dripped out. The sink in the bathroom was tiny despite being a generous size room. Please do not book this room.
- James (5/5): -
- Kerrie (5/5): Was ok but needs improvement - Great location fabulous view of the abbey from room 3 Needs a good clean , paintwork filthy . Tea coffee area dirty no spoon ! Beds were cheap mattresses and uncomfortable . No heating in the shower /toilet
- Emma (3/5): I always use booking.com and everywhere we’ve stayed is fab until this one very upsetting as NYE away with family - Location Dirty
Had to get cleaner in bedding dirty on arrival
Dirty towel in bath
Bin full in room on arrival
- john (6/5): Better was expected. - Warm & clean Location & limited views
- John (10/5): Lovely room nice and warm , great location - Very central location , owner went above and beyond to make sure we needed anything , clean , and warm room , will book again . N/A
- Anne Marie (9/5): Great stay - clean, warm, everything you need! - Perfect location, clean, warm, everything you need for a little Whitby stay! I’ve been to Whitby maybe 20 times as spent a lot more money for allot worse. It’s not the ritz but I was more than happy ! Only issue was my room was on the top floor so would request a lower room however someone has to take the top room so not a major issue at all
- Tom (8/5): Very plesent - Room very clean Little cold and there were tools left out in the communal area
- Price (10/5): -
- Mihails (7/5): -
- Anne-Marie (10/5): Amazing value for money - Travis was lovely he helped us with our bags and also checked that we were happy and needed anything, lovely man. Nothing
- Raymond (1/5): -
- Chris (8/5): - Good value, location Nothing
- Hawthorn (8/5): -
- Amanda (1/5): Won’t be staying here again - Not much pictures were deceiving The horrendous noise from next door 2.30 in the morning and 4.30 screaming arguing this was Saturday morning and exactly the same Sunday morning and exactly the same times hence no sleep we are shattered and have to drive home
- Louise (7/5): This is a fantastic budget over night stay - Beds super comfy Curtains/ draft on window and radiator didn't come on until about 9pm
- Geddes (1/5): - Only the cleaner and maintenance man Everything it was the worst place I ever stayed with not recommended it to anyone
- Stephen (8/5): I’d definitely go back and use the Blencathra again - Lovely place ,clean and everything you need , nice location Like I say everything was lovely but the bed definitely needs a new mattress, it was clean but the springs
- Jonathan (8/5): - It was clean. Easy to find and accessible to where we needed to be. A lack of electrical plugs, no bedside lamp but that’s all.
- norma (5/5): "NOT THOSE STAIRS AGAIN!" - Location was good. In Whitby and close to the sea and harbour. Beds were comfortable. Dog friendly. There were 5 flights of stairs to get to the room (room 6 at the top of the house!) - around 50 steps! The top flight of stairs went round a slight bend - my dog slipped and fell down them on the second day! Both my friend and I are almost 70 years old - definately NOT recommended for anyone with even slight mobility issues! Room was quite cramped. There was barely room to get the dogs bed on the floor between the 2 beds so the dog was disturbed every time I went to the bathroom. Water was only luke warm on several occassions. Parking was difficult . Even with the disc provided - it only allowed for 3 hours and there was never any space. I had to walk to the leisure centre at the end of the road every night and pay almost £12 for overnighr parking. ( even with a blue badge!) I was also charged £20 per night for my dog. We dreaded returning in the evening after a day out knowing that we had to climb all those stairs again! We will definately NOT be staying here again nor would we recommend it. My main reason for choosing it was the location, the price and fact it was dog friendly. Next time I would prefer to pay more for somewhere ɓigger and on the ground floor!
- John (10/5): - We had a great stay at the Blencathra Room 2 (BLEN2). The property was really clean and in an ideal location — quiet and perfect for a weekend getaway. The instructions for accessing the property were clear and easy to follow. It was excellent value for money considering the quality of the accommodation. After our stay, a lovely lady named Carla even called to check in and offered us a discount on our next visit, which was a really nice touch. We’d definitely recommend Prim Short Stays and would be happy to stay again!
- stefan (9/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Laurence (8/5): Nice guest house in Whitby - The view from the hotel of the Abbey, the bed was very comfy The shower took too long to heat up
- Roy (10/5): -
- Wendy (1/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): Enjoyable and I’ll be back again in October! I’ll stay there! - It was what I needed! The price was right! It was 8 minutes stroll to all the activities beach pubs! I couldn’t give any bad things about the property so that means it was good for me! I meet the service manager Travis he was a sound man! He couldn’t do enough for you! On my last night I met the owner and again asked me if I had any problems! I didn’t have any problems! The set up was great for what I paid for! It could of been 2 minutes to the town! Only joking! I didn’t have anything I didn’t like!
- Crellin (8/5): -
- Ann marie (7/5): - Comfortable Bathroom 2 flights of stairs down
- Gill (1/5): - Location No tv half sockets didnt work
- Britton (1/5): Untidy. Unpleasant. - Free parking Pritty much the whole stay.
From dirty hand prints of the wall to the room smelling of stale cigerette smoke. Absolutly horrific.
The photos on the website give the impression you have a sea view. Well you dont at al.
- Holmes (5/5): -
- Cat (1/5): -
- Jason (9/5): - The location is absolutely brilliant and the car park just up the rd is nit badly priced We had a back room with views of the Abbey and apart from the 3 men who had had a few two many and started arguing and fighting out the back of the flat was lovely
- Stephen (1/5): Wouldn’t stay here again if my life depended on it. - Location of the property is it’s only good point The room we had leaked, we were welcomed with a sodden carpet, a smelly room, with a plastic bucket each side of the bed to catch water, stains on the white sheets and hairs on the tea and coffee facilities. Without a doubt the worst stay we have ever had anywhere. The front door jams and is difficult to open. Customer service for this location is also very poor, we asked to book in from 3pm only to be told the cleaner hadn’t arrived and couldn’t check in until 6, which then turned out to be half 4. The bathroom is falling apart, with shelf falling so much so the we couldn’t place any toothbrushes or cleaning stuff on the side. Over all, I liked absolutely nothing about this property.
- Emma (10/5): Very good booking again to go back in a few weeks - Everything room was clean tidy and spacious, close walk to everything , owner was very nice and made sure everything was good Nothing
- Nick (6/5): Last minute cheap break . Under new management so hopefully will improve - Good location fabulous view Very run down and tatty
Not clean at all
- stephen (8/5): - It had everything we wanted, A bit tatty in areas, but overall good for a few days away.
- Fay (9/5): Overall very good, my stress was the parking as compared to every car on the street had a scratch c - Convenient distance for the purpose of the visit. No parking facilities, awaiting the results/ penalty of parking on the street first day. Did find parking the 2nd morning early.
- Peter (3/5): - Fairly clean No hot water to shower kettle socket didn't work it was exactly 3oclock before you could get keys there was a smell on landings quite a few stairs to bedroom not onsuit no parking £11 90 per day in car park
- jo (1/5): - Very dirty bed bugs Bed bugs very very dirty everywhere, everywhere
- Woodward Mitchell (1/5): - Door lock of room hanging off so had to put our stuff in car to go out.called said they were sending somone to mend it . Asked for a different room take hadn't even been cleaned. Booked for two nights came home after one absolutely ruined my birthday 🎂. Room 1 irs a scruffy whole mattress was about 10 years old bed bugs absolutely worst place to they dont up keep the whole property when you arrive weeds up to your knees. Absolutely house of horrors pile of dirty sheet at bottom of stairs. Customer service absolutely rubbish gave us a part refund for the night we didn't stay
- Mark (1/5): Very disappointed and depressing - Nothing at all We had booked for 3 nights and got to the room which was tiny we couldn't move .the bed was atrocious and so uncomfortable and old. Nowhere to hang our clothes. Parking permit was not there so had to look for overnight parking which we ended up on top of the Abbey which was miles away. The smell was shocking it was like the drains had blocked. Talking to others staying there they were also not happy. Dining room was full of washing so Nowhere to sit overall we were so unhappy we left on Saturday night to go home absolutely fuming as we were looking forward to our weekend away.
- Emma (1/5): Do NOT go!!!! - Location Everything else, to cut a massive story short, this is the only 3rd time in 20 years going away without the children and it was horrible from start to finish. We couldn't check in until 6pm due to cleaners,we paid for double ensuit to get a twin with no ensuit. Arrived to check in to see dirty washing in hallway and dining room which stunk and to find our room HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED, last guests used bedding, rubbish, used towels !!! Desperately tried to search for other accommodation but absolutely EVERYWHERE WAS FULL!! Stained bed and bedding of which we had no choice to sleep on, we were hours away from home and absolutely mortified!!!! Same again Saturday cleaners didn't come, went home early....hidden charges, £28 deposit, £11 parking PER DAY. They do not care about customers , no customer service they put the phone down on us twice, there was no communication unless we phoned, its disgusting and plain wrong.....I would avoid at all costs.......never ever will we come back again and I have all the pictures of which I've sent in.
- Joanne (5/5): Passable - Location is good and room facilities are good. It is good value for money The room was dirty. It had not been cleaned from the previous guests.. It took a long time for it to be sorted out and phone staff trying to sort it were very bad. The accommodation is good and so is the room but the cleaning company and your phone staff let it down. There was also dirty linen in the hallway the whole time and rubbish outside the front door that was never picked up.
- Leanne (1/5): Expecting a full refund - Absolutely awful experience! The guest house is not in anyway acceptable . It was filthy and had bags of laundry everywhere ! Our lock on door was broken! The shower set the fire alarm off and when we were moved from one disgusting room to another the keys did not work! What could have been worse?
- Emma (1/5): Horrible - Location Was not as described smelt locks were faulty we left after one night even though we booked for 3
- Witham (6/5): Twin room. - Room clean and tidy if very basic but good value Separate bathroom
- Kathryne (2/5): Poor, wouldn't recommend - Location really good When we arrived our bedroom door was ajar. We found it very dirty, empty bottle of oasis underneath the bed. The lock hatch on the bedroom door was broken. We rang and explained this, they said they'd send a maintenance guy round to fix the door. In the end they moved us to the top floor which was a bit better and cleaner.
- Richard (3/5): Would I use this place again, no... - The location was good, a fairly easy walk for wherever we wanted to go assuming you're ok with walking plenty of inclines and steps. The beds were fairly comfortable. Everything was a little bit worn and tired when it came to the interior. I had to message the company a few times as I felt it would be so easy to lose your deposit if they blamed certain things on you it had that many small, little problems. Major issues, you sit in the toilet and the back unit is not fastened to the wall. The ceiling has a leak when it rains, which goes straight onto the main bed. The bathroom skylight is at such a poor angle when it's open, again if it rains, expect a flooded bathroom if you accidentally leave it open even just a little bit. Stained bedsheets were reported alongside general wear and tear. There are zero facilities to heat up any food etc. I don't see why there couldn't be access to the kitchen area or some kind of community items in the "dining room". A small refrigerator in the room would have been beneficial. There's so many little things that could be done here to make it a decent place to stay. I took videos of the toilet and the leaking ceiling, a shame I can't upload them.
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Nicola (1/5): Disappointed we was left with a room that was not secure - Location was good not far from town and beach Hall ways cluttered with black bags , rubbish outside front door ,old and dated , locks on bedroom did not work , was not secure , also main door did not lock either.
Maintenance issues was reported but no one came to resolve the issue
- Michael (6/5): Pleasant - Price Place was in need of renovation
- Henly (5/5): Passable -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - The room was cosy The stairs were steep to room
- Pam (6/5): Pleasant - The Guest house was in a good position, we were able to park outside on the road with no problem. The property was very basic but it was cheap. Other than corresponding via email, we never met the owners, we weren't greeted at the door. The room had a extension cable running the width of the room on the floor. This doubled up for use of the kettle and also for use by the bedside table for charging your phone etc. The room needed more sockets. We had a dog with us and obeyed by the rules ( rightly so ) keeping him off the bed, never leaving him in the room unattended etc. We paid a deposit of £28 + £10 for the dog for each night. We got £25 of the deposit back and no explanation for the remaining £3. Maybe it was an admin fee and I hadn't read that !!!!!.
- Keith (6/5): Pleasant - BEWARE !!! Asked for £28 deposite against damages, i guess, as well as and on top of the full room price. Said it was returnable but still have not returned it. Could not get pass codes without it. I suspect it's a con, and I've lost my money. BEWARE!!!!
- Rhodes (7/5): Good - It was quiet and nice and clean beds were comfortable Was told there would be a scratch card for parking, but I had to pay for overnight parking for 2 days.
There were a lot of keys on the keyring, and it was confusing which ones to use, as only needed 3 keys. There were 7 keys in total. I had no idea what 4 of them were for.
- B (3/5): Poor - The location.
The shower was easy to use and great temperature. The bed was terrible.
No hand wash.
No option for black coffee.
Rubbish stacked up below my window in the back garden.
Light flickering in bathroom.
- Mandy (8/5): Very good -
- Cheryl (5/5): Could do better - I liked the area it was close to the sea and didn't take long to walk to all shops and beach. The bed was comfortable. As soon as we got to the property we noticed the catch on the lock on the door was very loose and wouldn't be secure. I called and emailed and was asked to send a pic then told maintenance would attend ...they never did.
The entrance to the property was gloomy and smelt of dog. The shower took a very long time to warm up.
- Val (5/5): Whitby reviewer - I realise the price was very reasonable. Had the best room as was the only room that was ensuite. The room wasnt ready (even though we had informed of timing a d was an hour after youwere allowed to a cess) cleaner was unable to access the room till we arrived and let her in with the keys that we got at the safebox outside the premises. Therefore no tea/coffee etc in room .Cleaner who said it was her first day had to hunt supplies out for us. Also the parking permits which wee supposed to be in room werent theses had to be found amongst leaflets by door and there werent enough there so the cleaner had to check in upboards in kitchen for more which luckily she found..The bin that we were told to leave our rub ish in on leaving was out the front of the property not a good look to arrive to as it was akready overflowing a d stayed like that all week.We were told by the Proprietor of next door that rubbish collections take place at the back of property on certain day a d nobody turns up to be sure bin is in correct place for collection.Have used Booking .con several times and this is the first time it has been disappointingl
- Greeba (7/5): Overall it was fine first impressions were not good as described above room clean - The outside was unkempt weeds and chipped paintwork not very pleasing to the eye and the bathroom was separate to the room once inside the room it was clean and beds quite comfortable ok for the price we paid
- Aaron (7/5): Good - Very good value for money and very good location. Clean and tidy room Mattress was uncomfortable but would be an easy fix with a mattress topper.
- Brian (4/5): Disappointing - Location The room had no on suite had to go out off room and across landing room was clean but tv didnt work
- Thomas (1/5): Bad - Not much really Waiting for the keys 🔑 to get in
- Debbi (4/5): The only good things were the bed & views. Wouldn’t stay at this accommodation again. - The beds were comfy, the views were amazing, the tv had YouTube for my son The stairs, we were on the top floor 40 steps each way with a 75 year old lady was not good.
The room was very cramped.
The other residents shouting at 1am & 3:30am
That was scary & it ruined the first night plus we didn’t get much sleep.
The second night was a little cooler, followed instructions for heating and it never worked.
There was a sign saying leave tap a few minutes for hot water, I had to run it for over 5 minutes to have a shower, there was only shampoo/conditioner and no body wash, it stated free toiletries. Plus the bathroom was quite dirty.
It was meant to be a locked building & a locked room, the front door was left wide open with a sign saying to do so as some residents didn’t have a key. This was not good for safety.
- Etheridge (1/5): Bad - Nothing Main door didn't lock
Room door didn't lock
Nothing was what was advertised
Didn't stay as unsafe
- Chanine (4/5): Lovely holiday - Lovely location, room was ok for what we needed it for. Plenty of room for a family of 4. Can’t complain with what we paid for it! A family room being the top floor, soo many stairs are very awkward with a baby and pushchair.
- Shaun (5/5): Passable - Location and the bed Very small and no ensuite bathroom also we got a parking ticket even with the permit
- Kelsey (7/5): Whitby stay - The location of the property, we were only a 5-10 minute walk from Whitby beach, the abbey & all the amenities. - The bed wasn't all that comfy, with the sheets coming undone quite easily
- The curtains weren't blackout & so the sun woke me & my partner up from 5am
- When opening the curtains, this was over a "yard" with overflowing rubbish stacked on bins, which wasn't appealing.
- The smoke alarm also flashes white (not great during darkness)
- One of the spotlights in the bathroom, kept flickering (not great for those who are epileptic)
- No bodywash minis, only shampoo & conditioner
- Jane (5/5): Passable - Not a lot. Entrance, hallway & stairs not cleaned for some time. A pile of cigarette butts outside front door. Room was clean & functional. Good shower. Uncomfortable, ‘ tired’ mattress on bed. A lot of steep stairs to the room, no lift. No staff at any time visited the premises. Agency called to find out how the stay was going & I expressed concerns. Steep & lengthy uphill walk from Whitby centre to premises which was located at the highest point in Whitby. You need to be very fit if on foot to stay here . It was ok for us & at least close to a music venue we wanted to visit.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Olivia (7/5): Comfy room, good location - The room was very clean and the beds were so comfortable. Location was great too. The hallways really need updating. The are very old fashioned and smelt a bit like stake smoke which was a shame.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Good sized room good location nice view of the Abbey from the window . room was clean the room needs abit of tlc toilet was broken extension cable for the kettle didn't work bed wasn't great
- Jonathan (10/5): Excellent location and amazing views friendly staff -
- Christine (1/5): Bad -
- Heather (1/5): I won't be staying there again. - No breakfast, it was room only. The location was good for what I wanted to do. The bathroom was on the floor below my room. I had a terrible job getting a code for the key-safe: it was not available to me on-line (an issue in itself, because I don't have internet at my home yet, it is a newbuild, I'd had to go elsewhere for access, delaying my departure time) on the morning of travel and I only got it by text (after a lengthy phone call) when I was half way up the A1. On arrival, there weren't any parking permits in the room, I had to make another lengthy call to find that they were actually in the hallway (upshot, I got a parking fine). All the associated delays meant I had missed the rendezvous with the group of friends I was due to meet, thus spoiling my first afternoon in Whitby.
The room was not serviced with fresh supplies of milk/tea/coffee: I had to ask a cleaner to bring me some, and she said they had run out of coffee. She was actually (at 5pm) preparing a room for other guests who had wanted to check in at 3pm but couldn't. They also had no parking permits in their room. The day of leaving the accommodation, I had an e-mail requesting me to remove items from the fridge/freezer and empty the bins. I did not have a fridge or freezer and no use of a kitchen. I think my laptop has picked up something nasty from their wifi: it worked perfectly before I went there, but while using it there, the screen has been flickering appallingly,
- Elanor (5/5): clean and tidy, great location but not good in terms of communication and servicing during our stay - Beautiful view from the room. was clean and tidy and comfortable.
short walk to harbour and cliffs. shower was lush and bathroom spotless No staff on site at all.
Communication between app and emails was not consistent. we spoke to others staying who had same experience.
Led to a bit of stress with sitting outside trying to pay a security deposit before having our key code. the phone number on the app was not recognised.
Parking was on street with a permit needed but not clear info on that from communication either. if not for a friendly cleaner and handyman being there when we arrived we would have been in the dark on how to go about things.
Our toilet roll was not topped up so we had to do an emergency dash to shops. Room not serviced during our stay, cups not cleaned and tea and coffee not topped up bin not emptied.
Bathroom was only for us but not en suite so a bit inconvenient and awkward doing dashes in towels and getting clothes on in the night for a quick toilet visit.
- Clare (5/5): expensive pet stay - location charged us £20 a night for one dog but nothing provided, no food/water bowl ( most places we have stayed charge £10 a night)
- Liubov (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hudson (1/5): STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL NOTHING BUT A SHAMBLES!!! - I didn't like anything as I wasnt even able to enter the building I had booked and paid for for 2 days My holiday was spoiled as I was left stranded in Whitby and sleeping on the pier with my partner all because they would not except any form of id other than photograhic I provided many other forms including bank statements government screenshot of my universal credit statement also my partners. I was told on the phone they would accept these after someone spoke to the manager I am absolutely livid and want a full refund as I am also financially broke now and didn't get the service I paid for! My partner ended up breaking both his feet after this polava which I guaranteed would not have happened had we been allowed entry and to enjoy our holiday
- Terry (6/5): Pleasant -
- Fletcher (5/5): Good for the price but urgent updating needed. - Location was good and the check in process was easy and simple The building itself is quite run down, in need of urgent updating such as carpets on the stairs and decor.
Room was mostly clean, there were cobwebs here and there, curtains were very poor and breaking in places, bathroom was ok, in need of updating. However, for the price it was expected.
