Guest Reviews
- Sakura Tansu (8/5): A quiet and convenient option for a short stay in central Kyoto - Only a short walk from Nijo station, which connects to both Keihan and subway lines, as well as a supermarket, cinemas and Nijo castle, the location is very convenient. The room was well-appointed for this price category and the interior was tasteful and restful, with a raised tatami platform for sleeping. A razor and shoehorn would have been appreciated. Also, both the over-bath shower drain and washbasin drain filled up with water very quickly so I suspect both drains need more regular clearing.
The staff member at the property, while friendly and helpful, seemed to struggle with communication in Japanese and even more so in English; I suspect had I been able to speak Chinese, the communication would have been smoother (the contact email for the property seems to be a Chinese name).
- Nigel (8/5): A comfortable stay in Nijo, with a comfortable large bed. - Nice bed, quiet, strong shower, comfortable A little far from transit, 10-20 minutes walk depending on the route needed.
- Marin (10/5): - Very good hotel and clean

- Haochen (8/5): - simple but cozy, it has everything. i wish it had 1 more pillow per person.
i wish it had a outlet near a mirror. they provided a hair dryer but you can’t use it near a mirror since there’s no outlet.
there was a light by the bed but we couldn’t find the switch for it.
wifi was kind bad on the 3f.
wasn’t super soundproof. can hear the people next room.
water pressure was too strong. usually that’s a good thing but this one was tricky. it was so strong that it was pushing the shower head off the socket.
- Hajra (7/5): - The hotel was very close to the station in a lovely area, there was a shared kitchenette.you could connect your Netflix to the TV. The bathroom was the tiniest I've ever used, the kitchenette didn't have any cutlery or plates to warm your food in the microwave, you had to warm it in the plastic containers it came in. The pillows need replacing, too flat.

- Eric (7/5): -
- Noé Julien (8/5): Design and welcoming little hotel - Very clean, cool design, minimalistic I’m not used to futon and it’s a bit too strong
- Lisa (9/5): Brilliant hotel in nice location - Spacious, clean and very cozy room!!
- thomas (10/5): -

- Loriane (10/5): Bon séjour à Kyoto - La facilité de Check in et out. L’emplacement. Le confort de la chambre. La gentillesse du staff. Salle de bain un peu petite.
- M (10/5): - The room is so comfortable and clean, it's also quite spacious considering the price. I didn't see the staff much as it was self check in, but they left little notes and treats in the room when I arrived and at the front desk when I left which was very very cute :)
the hotel is also a short walk from Nijo Station so its really convenient to get around Kyoto. The futon was also super comfortable, especially if you're not used to sleeping in a Japanese style room but want to try it this hotel is a really good option imo. there wasn't a lot of luggage space as I didnt want to put my suitcase on the tatami flooring, but compared to other Japanese hotels in this price range in a convenient area its actually a good sized room! The bathroom was a bit small as well but everything was clean and worked without issue so I can't complain.

- Zackary (10/5): Kyoto stay - I really loved the lighting and how comfortable the beds were. It was so nice when we arrived we got green tea and a little card with check in info which was super nice. The room was also spacious and really appreciated having 2 chairs to sit in after walking the entire day around Kyoto. It was very clean and the ac was great. I would definitely come back here it was an amazing stay
- Marguerite (8/5): -
- Bryan (6/5): Great place but a few notes - Location was great. Only a 5minute walk from the laundry, supermarket and train station with 7/11 across the street.
Communal space on ground floor is well equiped.
Also liked the theme of the place.
Liked that theres disposal bins on each floor. Space is very tight and narrow. Wasnt sure about fire egress other than the narrow stairwell.
The seats in the room is ok for most but hard on older travellers as its quite low for them to get up on.
The toilet door has a gap at the bottom so we had to wipe up a few times and the smell of someone using the bathroom eventually gets into the room.
One of the two rooms we booked felt like the toilet wasnt cleaned properly. Had urine smell when we got in.
- Ahmad Zafri (10/5): -
- Joona (10/5): Great place to stay in Kyoto! -

Ihr "The fruits are ugly but sweet" werden wir wahrscheinlich nie vergessen. :-)
- Felipe (10/5): -
- Joline (10/5): We were very satisfied with our cozy and comfortable our stay was. The location was very convenient with a nearby 7eleve - The cozy vibes and convenient location. No elevator but it’s ok!
- Hui Chin (10/5): -
- Damiana Isadora (8/5): Great accommodation - The futon was extremely comfortable. Bedroom was big for 2 large suitcases, location was close to transports and restaurants and the owners were super helpful. It doesn't have an elevator, so you need to be in good shape to carry the bags. The staff was super helpful when we arrived and carried them for us.

- Pepe 1976 (7/5): -
- Paola (10/5): - Very clean, friendly staff and fairly close to a JR and metro station No elevator, but that wasn't really a problem
- lucy (5/5): - The location is convenient There was cockroach in the room and in the lobby.

- Charles (9/5): Nice quaint hotel - Very nice little hotel, the room was very spacious in comparison with other hotels in Osaka & Tokyo, everything very clean. Tatami room style bed was comfortable. The hotel staff was very discreet and helpful. The hotel is situated a bit further away from touristic hot spots, which means the neighbourhood is quieter, and the surrounding restaurants are filled with Japanese people rather than tourists. The backside is the slightly longer transport time to touristic spots - however all manageable with good planning. My partner and I would come back any time if we have the chance to visit Kyoto again. Unfortunately, and while it is completely out of the hands of the hotel staff, a demolition work on a neighbouring house began the morning following our arrival, and the noise in the morning was slightly incommodating.
- Cristina (10/5): Exceptional - Kayo Hotel is a lovely place. Sparkling clean, silent and with very cute rooms. Futon was very comfortable. I didnt get to see staff but they reacted quickly to all my messages. Nothing to dislike about this place.
- Nikki (10/5): Great hotel in an amazing location - It was a great space! Clean, there was a little sitting area in front of the beds. It was perfect for our family of three. Also, there was a delicious ramen shop just a block over, 7/11 across the street, and on the other side of the hotel a great cafe where we’d get açaí bowls and coffee for breakfast. And the Nijo station was like 6 minute walk for us. We loved that we could walk everywhere. The only negative is, and this is just nitpicking, was when you flushed the toilet it was a little loud and it went on for a good few seconds. But, I never heard noise from other rooms so maybe it was just ours?
- Oxana (10/5): Exceptional - very nice and friendly personal :)
- Alexandra (10/5): Perfect stay in Kyoto - Situated in a residential area the hotel is small in size but has a lot of character and traditional Japanese elements! I had booked one of the tatami rooms! I loved how quiet and cosy it felt! Each day coming back to the hotel, felt like coming home! Everything was extremely clean and I liked the fact that we had bins on the hallway so we could recycle our trash! The staff were extremely helpful and explained everything extremely well from the beginning! I would definitely recommend this hotel and come back on my next visit to Kyoto! It’s very well connected! Nijo station is around 7 minutes away if you need to travel by train and the metro station is around 9 minutes away from the property! There’s a 7eleven right across the main street!
- Robbie (9/5): Superb -
- Nadya (9/5): Superb -
- Mohd (9/5): Overall very pleasant stay - Aesthetic looking hotel. Nice and clean. Big spacious room. The tatami bed was surprisingly comfortable despite being the thinnest tatami bed we slept on so far. They provide all the basic necessities like towels toothbrush water dispensers coffees and teas. Theres even candy on the counter. The staffs are not always available so its kind of difficult if you want to ask them things. They provide the password for the main door and the room door prior checking in. We got to the hotel quite early in the morning and the doors were locked, luckily we received the password the day before. The bathroom is quite small but its not a problem for us as were not big people. And also the toilet do smell funky sometimes.
- Adél (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely kind staff and amazing place with good location.
- Alina (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dmitrypogrebnoy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jordan (10/5): Great space to compliment Kyoto - The space was beautiful and a welcome sight after smaller hotels previously. The feeling of the room was warma nd welcoming and allowed us to relax after big days looking at shrines.
- Kenneth (6/5): Pleasant - Some of the staff was great, location convenient to Nijo st We weren’t provided access to the room until we had to contact the mgmt upon arrival. This was hours after we were supposed to be given the information. The WiFi in our room was very close to none, likely from the power line just outside our window. The narrow and steep staircase made carrying my heavy bag difficult. Overpriced for what you get.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Súper recomendado limpio y ordenado
- Tamara (9/5): Highly recommended - I like the location, also everything was clean and new. There is just low WiFi and internet was almost absent in room - but it is no problem at vocation
- Jessie (9/5): Superb - The location here was fantastic. So close to Nijo Station, never was more than 20 minutes from Kyoto Station. It was my first time sleeping in a futon style bed, too, and I was surprisingly comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The price was very good in comparison with a lot of other hotels during the time period, as well. Very happy with the hotel and would definitely stay here again. The bathrooms were pretty tight, which to be fair is common in a lot of the hotels I have stayed in in Japan, but this one did not have a shelf in it. I was struggling for a place to put my clothes for when I get out of the shower.
- Nathalie (8/5): Very good -
