Guest Reviews
- yassmine (10/5): Séjour agréable, calme et bien situé. - Calme et propre. L’emplacement was great. Rien de négatif
- Graham (4/5): - I cannot give a review as I tried getting a hold of gary by email but never got a reply. The night of the 31st I had been at Liverpool and had to get a train to Manchester. At the end of the night I stayed in Manchester piccadilly station until I had to get my train at 04.57 back up to Edinburgh so I spent 5 and a half hours waiting for the train. All I can say is I don't know because I never stayed at the property
- B (7/5): - Location, good shower
- Lydia (4/5): -
- Christine (1/5): Very poor communication with the owner and he cancelled less than 24 hours before - Didn’t even get to stay there. Got cancelled less than 24 hours before we were due to go.
- Janebek (7/5): - Excellent location right in the city center, making it incredibly convenient. The room itself was well-equipped. Once we checked in, Gary was very responsive and did his best to accommodate our requests and provide whatever we needed. The location on Booking.com is wrong, making it extremely hard to find without contacting Gary for directions beforehand. The major issue, however, was the lack of hygiene: stained bedsheets, dirty spoons, and bath towels covered in hair that we couldn't even use.

- Audrey (7/5): -
- Barry (10/5): - The hotel was very good Nothing
- Daniel (7/5): Homely - The room is great and the bed is cozy. The location is perfect for downtown shops etc. The bathroom had everything it needed. There was a kettle, water, snacks, soaps, heating, a small desk, extra blankets provided.
Overall it's important to remember this is a room in a private apartment, so it's more like staying in a nice guest room at a distant family members house - it's not at all corporate. If that's what you want (as I did), then it's perfect, and it's far better than what you'll get for your money at a standard hotel, though it has its quirks.
The host was a friendly though shy man, he kept to himself and we only spoke briefly; though he clearly wanted to do his best to make the space as good as possible for guests.
I would stay again happily; I have left a list of nitpicks below, but I'm listing them because this is a good room and I think the host cares enough to make use of feedback. It's so close to being one of the nicest places someone could stay in the city. Checking-in was messy, I was waiting over an hour before I got in, despite giving my arrival time multiple times; while I tried to be understanding about it, I got very cold and annoyed by the end, and it spoiled dinner with a friend. The host is not good at responding to messages quickly and I had to call 3 times on two numbers before I got any response.
To the host: I know it's a one man show and that can't be easy, but just being on the ball to respond to messages when you're expecting guests would solve 90% of this issue.
Small nitpicks that could be improved: The bathroom was a bit messy, I didn't mind, but it just needed 5 minutes work. There was a fancy radiator in the room, but it didn't have any controls when it was turned on (a simple one with knobs would be better). There was a very intense air perfume plug, I know some people like these, but I'm one of the people who find them both nauseating and worrying because I don't know what smell they are attempting to cover up. (I unplugged it, and it was not covering a smell, so it seemed to be unnecessary). There were tea bags, but I didn't use them because they were unsealed and I didn't know how long they had been sitting there. Some well placed extension cords would go a long way.
- Alice (1/5): - Nothing - the host is inconsiderate I can't say, I booked 40 days before my stay and paid, then about 5 days before the stay (and after confirming check-in time etc) the host said someone booked the day before me and so the room was doublebooked (taking over a month to notice seems improbable) and rather than cancelling himself he told me to contact booking.com to sort it- and then ignored any email or message. Booking.com are hopefully refunding but I had to stay way out of the city as there was no availability by the time he told me to cancel (if he cancelled himself it would likely have been easier and more automatic, and doing so so late made it harder)
AVOID- unless you want last minute issues to fix
- Dušan (6/5): -
- Umut (4/5): -
- Jason (7/5): At first it looks mad, but for just over night no issue. Gary was lovely - Locations Location was great, private apartments, Gary landlord was great
- Nuralden (7/5): -
- Kwame Bismark (9/5): - Perfect location and very clean None
- Bono (1/5): Scam, Fraudster, Discrimination towards disabled people, says people with a stick are a fire risk... - Nothing as Gary ignored us so couldn't stay even tho my money was taken!!! This guy is a fraudster and discriminates people with a disablity. Do not book you will more than likely get scammed like we did..... Having nowhere to stay and paying extra to stay at another hotel..... The owner refused access as I use a walking stick, basically said I was a fire hazard and refused to communicate but happy to take my money. You should be charged for fraud and discrimination 🤬
- Michael (8/5): -
- Goodwin (10/5): - Gary was a great guy and great location 👏 Nothing
- Geoff Kemp (10/5): - Gary was very accommodating let me leave my overnight bag in the room before check in. Really comfy bed. Very quiet.
- Amber (10/5): Perfect - Helpful, friendly and cozy stay! Everything
- Wietse (1/5): - - Adres klopt niet. Host neemt de telefoon niet op en reageert niet op sms. Dus toen last minute ander hotel geboekt.
- Faisal (10/5): -
- Fiona (1/5): Didn’t get in, couldn’t find it - Couldn’t find the property using the post code, no one new of the room we’d booked. We asked loads of people & businesses in the area to no avail, couldn’t get hold of the owner so had to make alternative arrangements.
- Aleksei (7/5): As long as you stay there for one night is a good quality vs price option. - The apartment is located very close to Picadilly garden in a beatiful historical building. The corridor is decorated with antique tiles and the stairs is just beatiful. The room is cleaned with really strong chemical,
- Nayef (8/5): -
- Steven (10/5): Ideal for price and location, would stay there again - Location was perfect, room was clean and it was quiet.
- Lewis (3/5): Wouldn’t return. - The location was central. Unorganised and late check in. Room wasn’t ready, bed sheets left on floor. Made up bed myself then realised after being in the bed the sheets were dirty. Flies coming in vent in bathroom. Couldn’t get TV to work properly. Wasn’t disclosed to us a cat was living in the apartment with us, found out on final night as it was sitting at our room door (my friend is allergic).
