ben (10/5): Amazing experience true luxury - One of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed..from the friendly staff to the beautiful grounds and spacious rooms it was pure luxury from start to finish..perfect setting in the heart of Cotignac..we can’t wait to go back in August ..the food was incredible also in the bistro and jardin secret..if your thinking about it just book it!

francesca (10/5): Loved it and will come again! - We loved everything about Lou Calen! The owners are fabulous, kind and hospitable. The B&B is quaint, comfortable - what we call ‘brilliant basics’. The views are to die for, it’s so quiet and the swimming poool added a little luxe. It’s so reasonable priced and the perfect based to hope around the surrounding hilltop towns and villages. A slighter older crowd (we’re 30) but it didn’t matter, if anything it had def to the charm. Would stay again. Room a little dark!

D (10/5): Au dessus de nos attentes... Merci... - L'établissement est une totale découverte et très agréablement surpris. Je n'avais pas idée qu'un tel établissement se niche ici. Le personnel est à l'écoute, pro et commercial. Le soin apporté aux clients est digne d'un établissement haut de gamme sans fioritures mais avec efficacité. La chambre et ses équipements, le calme du site, et le brunch du dimanche. Des mets hors du commun pour un brunch et de la qualité dans chacun des plats. Une brigade en cuisine, pro, et souriante partageant du temps pour le bien être de chacun. Top! Parfait pour se détendre et pensé à rien... Si je dois trouver un défaut et il est minime... quelques courants d'airs frais au bistrot le soir, table face à l'entrée du restaurant à éviter pour les frileux...

Katie (8/5): Would thoroughly recommend. We had the most wonderful time. - Amazingly beautiful accommodation amongst the vines. Spotlessly clean despite having so many trees and nature around. Staff super friendly and attentive. Both pools lovely but as an adult couple the Zen pool was by far the preference. Breakfast absolutely delicious and fresh choices. Wonderful location in the heart of Cotignac. Overall a simply delightful place to stay. It has a fairly high price point, however, the quality is good so it is just about worth it. Bistro service was slow and had a limited menu. Our food came out lukewarm warm but we were so hungry had to eat it. They may have been having an off night as we didn’t try it again and others reviews have been positive.
Philip (10/5): The hotel ha every possible amenity needed and was very relaxing. - The staff were excellent. I had difficulties with my hire car and the staff at reception were very helpful in solving my difficulties. Sebastian particularly was brilliant as was the young man on the desk on the morning of 9.8.25. We were staying in the Miko area at the top of the estate. The entrance for vehicles was very difficult to find and to get into. The hotel should do much more to assist -perhaps by a system of valet parking The bistro restaurant was perhaps a little limited and disappointing in its menu.

Martine (6/5): Mooie kamer in charmant, levendig dorp. Hotelservices en gastbeleving nog te ontwikkelen. Wifi ook. - Het ontbijt was prima: lekkere viennoiserie, vers fruit, sappen en confituur – precies wat je verwacht. De koffie via het toestel kon beter, maar het team dat het ontbijt verzorgde was wél vriendelijk en attent. Lekkere eitjes of omelette. Lactose- en glutenvrij is in Frankrijk nog steeds echt supermoeilijk! Héél attent blijven! De locatie van het ontbijt is jammer genoeg minder goed. Het kleine terras vooraan biedt weinig zitplaatsen en bijna geen schaduw. Binnen ontbijten is het alternatief, maar daar is het vaak te warm en niet gezellig. Zonde, want er is een erg groot domein vlak aan het hoofdgebouw dat zich perfect leent voor een aangenamere ontbijtervaring in openlucht en onder de platanen. Daarvoor ga je toch naar de Provence, niet? Ons verblijf had sterke punten (mooie kamer, goede airco, fijne locatie), maar er zijn helaas veel verbeterpunten. Activiteiten lijken op social media uitgebreid maar dit is schijn, alles moet vooraf worden geboekt én te worden bijbetaald. Ook in de restaurants moet je als hotelgast ruim op tijd reserveren. Het eten was lekker, maar weinig variatie (menu niet aangepast na 4 dagen) en in het 'Bistrot' was het personeel zichtbaar (of eerder schijnbaar) overbelast – wachten tot 45 minuten om te bestellen. Housekeeping was beperkt onder het eco-label: bedden niet altijd opgemaakt, vuilnis bleef staan, handdoeken pas na dag 4 veranderd (en zelfs dan alleen na navraag). Ook toen werd de badkamer niet opgefrist, bedlinnen niet vervangen. Je kon wel een fles rosé krijgen in de plaats. We bleven wel nog een aantal nachten, dan kan eco beter even wijken. Zwembaden : mooi qua grootte, maar te weinig schaduw en parasols. Ligbedden werden bezet gehouden zonder gebruik. Nauwelijks service, hulp (parasols verplaatsen) of toezicht van personeel. Jacuzzi dagenlang stuk, nadien luik zwembad ook 'out of order'. Het terrein heeft veel potentieel maar wordt onderbenut en is ook niet echt toegankelijk voor minder mobiele gasten. Technisch probleem met het licht in de kamer werd niet opgelost ondanks herhaalde meldingen (groot licht viel uit na 15 sec.!) Receptie (in een shop) biedt weinig privacy en alles loopt via mail, wat niet voelt als vakantie. Verbinden met de natuur zegt men dan.... Op zondag rond 7u30 hels brandalarm en geroep door hotelgasten; iedereen buiten in pyjama,... niemand gezien van het hotel om ons te informeren of gerust te stellen (schouwbrand(je?) in keuken van restaurant bleek achteraf). Finaal door de verantwoordelijke die we pas ontmoetten bij het uitchecken : een tegemoetkoming van 1 diner door vermelding van deze punten. Dank hiervoor, maar ja...
Michel (10/5): Une belle découverte dans une partie de la Provence peu connue - Ayant lu un article sur cette région de Provence que nous ne connaissions pas du tout nous sommes arrivés là un peu par hasard, attirés par les commentaires de Booking et le guide de voyage consulté. L'hotel est vraiment particulier, alliant recherche et décontraction. Il est situé dans un vrai village provençal trés vivant, avec des commerces et des offres de restauration. L'hotel est confortable, mais le site est compliqué, donc on va de bonne surprise en bonne surprise. Les piscines sont bien conçues, la vie de l'hotel se fait sur différents sites du domaine. Nous recommandons de diner au moins une fois au "Bistrot" et au "Jardin secret" qui sont au juste prix pour la prestation et les plats intéressants. Le Bar à Pastis est une attraction... Attention c'est un hotel compliqué pour les personnes qui ont du mal à se déplacer (escaliers, chemins dans les jardins, bref tout ce qui fait son charme...) . Il y a pas mal de choses à visiter à l'entour.... En bref, de la bonne hôtellerie à la française, avec une direction qui a la volonté de créer et d'innover. Trés difficile à dire, car nous adorons cet endroit et y avons fait un trés agréable séjour. L'Hotel est un assemblage de parc, jardins, de plusieurs hectares, donc la géographie est un peu complexe, on se perd un peu au début, l'accès en voiture n'est pas facile malgré tous les efforts du personnel. Le ménage de notre chambre a parfois été fait un peu vite, il n'y a rien de prévu pour égoutter un maillot de bain ou sécher une serviette.. Mais peut-être est-ce lié à la belle petite suite qui nous a été attribuée? Lit trés confortable à notre goût , mais sur la rue il y a le marché, les balayeuses des 6:00, etc cela ne nous a pas gêné, vivant toute l'année en centre ville avec ces conditions, mais pour quelqu'un cherchant le calme demandez les chambres situées dans le parc.

Mojgan (10/5): Gorgeous place to stay at 🌺🌺👌 - Gorgeous place . It’s so beautiful you want to stay in and spend more time on the property. Staff are very nice. The young man working the night shift was so kind . Not only carrying all our luggage to our room, but also by 7:30 in the morning , he had printed a long list of all the surrounding little cities we could enjoy exploring during our stay.

Petra (10/5): A stylish hotel with amazing grounds - Stylish peaceful hotel on the centre of the village of Cotignac- there are massive grounds behind the hotel with 2 restaurants, 2 swimming pools and many gardens. Bedrooms are beautiful- we stayed in La Casoule with a balcony and beautiful view. But there are many great options across the grounds. V clean and well maintained. Nothing- it’s perfect

Laura (10/5): It was a very relaxing, zen experience and the landscaping is absolutely stunning. - The whole experience was perfect and obviously very different from my last stay in the Lou Calen in August 1997 when my husband and I were purchasing a house in Cotignac. The beds at that time were ancient and lumpy, the plumbing was dodgy but the food was good! All the people who have worked on this project for so many years have my heartiest congratulations, it’s very special! I shall certainly highly recommend it and I plan to return! Laura I thought continental breakfast (tea/coffee and toast) should have been included considering the cost of the room!
Sydney (10/5): Hidden gem! You would be crazy not to stay here!!!! - Truly such a beautiful property. So eclectic and unique! Tucked away perfectly in the hills of Cotignac, but all the little elements of the property made it SO nice! Renovations are being done on the property at the moment, but despite that, we were not bothered whatsoever and it wasn’t in the way of how we used the hotel. The renovations that have been done are really well done and the service from the staff is top notch! It’s like a boutique hotel with each room being a little different from the next and the restaurants are SOO good! The property grows their own ingredients and uses them in their dishes! Truly couldn’t recommend this hotel more!!!!!

Eileen (10/5): Stylish French estate nestling in the Provence countryside. - Lou Calen is a very special place offering a truly unique experience. The attention to detail in the extensive grounds and accommodation is exemplary. It is a sensory delight. The staff are wonderful and the food is outstanding especially at their amazing restaurant. I would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

We weren't informed when booking that the Secret Garden Restaurant (inside the grounds of the hotel) was closed on Wednesday & Thursday so we were not able to dine there which was disappointing.

Jade (9/5): Totally gorgeous and a very relaxing stay - We visited Lou Calen for 5 nights for our mini honeymoon and it is so gorgeous! Perfect for what we wanted. The grounds are stunning and our room was beautiful. Very clean, well kept and good quality amenities. It was very relaxing and peaceful while also having the benefit of being in the centre of the village so we loved going out for dinner and drinks and then being able to retreat to our lovely room. The pool is so nice and we always found it to be quiet so plenty of sun loungers for everyone. The bed was probably the most comfortable hotel bed we’ve ever had. Love the focus on sustainability too. Cotignac itself is fantastic - a lovely little village, well worth visiting. Breakfast is very expensive for what it is but we enjoyed going to the local bakery instead which is a short walk away. The pool is amazing but it would be great if it was easier to order drinks/food to the pool and if there was a more extensive menu. The hotel entrance when arriving by car is very difficult to find so be sure to read the instructions that the hotel sends you.

It all started with the very first impression, the warm welcome we received from the recepcionist. Our rooms were perfect and decorated with real taste. The estate is at short foot walking distance to one of the most charming villages we ever visited. We will come back one day, for sure! N/A

Hotel was beautiful, super comfortable rooms and amazing pool. Love who eco conscious they are too. All in all great stay with amazing staff, can't recommend highly enough.

The lady on the desk was unbelievably helpful and the other staff too, super professional, super friendly, and super good at their jobs. Room was like a little flat, clean, big comfy and modern bed and room and shower and room. Aly (8/5): We spent a long weekend at wedding celebrations around the area, this was the perfect place to stay. - Standard french breakfast. Great location. Beautiful pool. Wonderful views Lovely gifts. Water bottles, hats etc. Limited hot water for showers. Extortionate taxi fares. 30 euros for 8 minute ride ( though that was not the hotels fault ) A little difficult to understand the layout of the hotel and its different accommodation when booking.
