She cancelled the booking the day before arriving because there were “plumbing issues” saying she would do a refund within seven days and we never got the money back. - leon (1/5): stay away !!!!! - not much what a embarrassment and disgrace booked for a friend for his birthday , NO WHERE on booking does it state that there communal lounge etc and it is actually just a room in a apartment. so limited privacy other guest in lounge etc, agent also had the audacity to ask him to check other guests in and give them their keys as they will check in late !! even gave him their contact details!!!! they then proceeded to phone him relentlessly to let them in!!!!!!! this totally unacceptable in all years using booking .com I have never encountered any thing like this , even Raddison is cheaper, false advertising stay the hell away

- Njabulo (7/5): Great location and comfort, but long, poorly handled check-in process - I loved my stay at The Pearls of Umhlanga or Oceans Apts. The room was beautiful, clean, and very comfortable, with everything I needed for a relaxing stay. The location is honestly one of the best parts as it’s perfectly situated and convenient. Everything is close by, from restaurants to Ocean Mall, all just a short walk away. Being so central made it easy to explore Umhlanga without any stress. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for comfort, convenience, and great surroundings all in one place. Unfortunately, my check-in experience was very disappointing. I waited close to an hour at reception while my check-in was being sorted out. The hotel did not initially recognise my booking on their system, despite it being a valid reservation made through Booking.com. During this time, communication from the host was poor, with very little explanation or updates provided while the issue was being resolved. The lengthy delay was extremely inconvenient and unacceptable, as it caused me to miss plans I had scheduled. This significantly impacted what was otherwise a good stay.

No lights in the bathroom/shower or above the bed. TV didn’t work. Housekeeping threw away my food the day after I checked in
- Girly (1/5): Filthy dirty disgusting place - The pearls of Umhlanga apartment was so dirty. When I went to sleep around 11pm in the bedroom , there were blood stains on the bed. the duvet was dirty and had stains on it. The pillow was dirty, there was hair on the pillow, and some dirty marks on the pillows.there was also a broken window in the bedroom. When I told the host about it, the host said to me, “No, you can sleep on that bed. I’ll change the bedding tomorrow morning.” I’m like, how do you expect me to sleep in such a dirty place? I don’t want to sleep here. Please give me my refund so I can go somewhere else.
Then she said to me, “Okay, let me take you to another apartment. I’ll ask security to come get you so that you can go to another one.” Fine, I waited. That time its 11pm, I waited for like 30 minutes, then security came, and we went to the othe apartment.
When we got there,it was just as bad if not worse. the ceiling was open, and the sliding door didn’t close. Then she said to me that, that door is like that. There were cockroaches all around.
Then I asked her for a refund so I could go to Capital pearls , and she said there’s no refund. She refused to give me a refund. At 12 midnight, I was stranded without a place to go, and I ended up going to Capital pearls. I had booked for 2 nights and I didn’t even sleep there for a night
The next day, I asked her about a refund. Then she said, no, there’s no refund. The place is so dirty. Whatever you do, do not book that place. Apparently the place is used for three-hour rentals. That means the place is literally for prostitutes. They book that place for three hours, do their business, and then go. And they don’t clean afterwards.Disgusting disgusting disgusting
- Hassin (1/5): Not good. - Nothing. The bedding had stains on it, it didn’t have that hotel feel, the bed looked horrible, the couch and curtain looked even worse. I definitely didn’t get what I paid for I was very disappointed. The shower doors also don’t close properly causing a flood when you shower so definitely wasn’t worth R2800.

- Shahira (1/5): Disappointing - The consultant I dealt with, Farah, was over an hour late to assist with check in and the biometrics. She requested that I let her know 45 minutes before my arrival, I notified her at 13:55pm that I would be arriving at 2:45pm. She then took an additional hour to find me waiting at the property. I was only checked into my apartment at 4:15pm. She was extremely rude and said that another client was already waiting at the management office which caused the ‘delay’, however she requested that I meet her outside the African roots coffee shop. Her assistant, Elizabeth who was meant to retrieve us was lost for half an hour. Farah was extremely rude about this, and responded with an aggressive attitude. Extremely extremely disappointed with the service.

- Sudesh (1/5): - We did not stay at the apartment that we booked. Only upon arrival we were notified that the apartment had a plumbing issue. We had to call the owner of the apartment to find out about this. We were also told that we cannot stay at the apartment. Hence at about 8pm we had to make alternative arrangements. My husband was going into hospital the next morning and this had really inconvenienced us. While waiting at the reception there were coakroaches crawling around.

- Belinda (1/5): The faster I got out of there on the Saturday morning the better . I did take photos . - The location is good - the kitchen had good appliances. The owner of the apartment sent me a W /A whilst I flew from CPT to Durban and offered me a 2 bedroom apartment with a partial sea view instead of the 1 x bedroom apartment city facing originally booked. The only problem she said was that the A / C was not working - but that there was a fan . She FORGOT to tell me that this exchange apartment was under renovation . The floor had not been mopped , there were 2 plastic chairs on the balcony . The bathroom was in the process of renovation - some areas were presentable , some stripped of wood paneling , the furniture resembled a mixture of leftovers from departed old relatives . Really ? The Pearls is supposed to be a smart , modern establishment She could not find the key to the safe . And the Netflix did not work . The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean in spite of the dusty floor. On the Friday afternoon , 5th September 2025 at about 16 h00 , the owner phoned me . She said she had left messages . She had clients arriving at 6pm and they wanted a two bedroom unit , would I mind to pack up and spend the last night in the original unit . I refused . I was our with friends , then she offered to pack up my things and move for me -- I told her to get lost and ended the phone call. The owner harassed me. She has a couple of apartments in the Pearls . her mission is to get them all occupied -- bugger the guest . In my opinion , she is a hustler .... trying to get the deal . I was very annoyed and can you imagine -- she will pack all my things up and move me into the original 1 bedroom apartment. I have never heard of such rubbish before . Don't haggle with a guest . Booking . Com -- you are going to have to become Police men and check up on these establishments .

- Nadia (1/5): Really horrible - The fact that we were given a make shift room for the 1st night,and then moved to another room the next day.No dstv,no wifi,host was not very helpful.I paid R13760 for 4 nights.One night the owner of the apartment rocked up there,unannounced...they simply unlocked our doors and walked straight into the apartment.No warning,not even a knock on the door.It was horrible...and when we asked them about it,the woman had an attitude.Never in my life have I experienced this.Truly disgusting.Farah and her daughter and son....worst hosts ever.

- Mutoda (5/5): Given that the apartment is located in the same building as the regular hotel rooms, one would expect the same standard - Conveniently located in the heart of Umhlanga, this spot offers easy access to restaurants and shops, all within walking distance. The bed is exceptionally comfortable, and the room is soundproof, ensuring a peaceful stay without any outside noise or traffic disturbances. The apartment was not hotel-standard clean, and while the towels were fresh, they were noticeably old. There were no complimentary toiletries such as shampoo or lotion. The air conditioning was not working, and the couch in the apartment was saggy.

2. They double charged me booking.com had a price of R1400 but I was charged R2700 I’m still waiting for my refund.

Unit was very nice and comfortable bed Front door to the unit didn't work properly. The window was cracked. Only one sliding door opened in the lounge but very hard to open and close and the sliding doors in the main room didn't open at all.

- Carolina (1/5): Un fiasco - La ubicacion es lo unico bueno Llegue y las sabanas estaban sucias, entrar fue un incordio porque jamas me dieron acceso, entonces cada vez que queria entrar era un problema y tenia mucho para esperar.
El departamento tiene mucha humedad, la heladera esta en la mitad del living, las luces del techo estan caidas, el dormitorio NO TIENE CORTINA ! Las ventanas del living no cierran, estaban rotas y el baño se rebalsa. Un horror el lugar. Una pena, porque la ubicacion es muy buena, el edificio tiene pileta, pero no recomiendo quedarse en un lugar caro y que esta en ese estado.

- Robert (7/5): - It is a bit of a mission to access the property, and my room did not have an ocean view but otherwise it was fine. A problem is that there were a "resort fee" of R 950 added to my bill, something that was not clearly declared in advance and had I known about it, would not have stayed there. Anyway, I have no idea what the fee was for since there was NO "resort" to speak of, probably shared facilities of the hotel that occupies part of the same building / city block.
