Guest Reviews
- Arturo (1/5): Terrible experience with the host. Very unprofessional and inefficient system. Awful WIFI. - What I liked is irrelevant compared to the tough time I had before and after this booking. I start the story here and follow on in the “didn't like” section. This host is the most terrible I have ever had. I travel almost every month.
Be careful with the "must-know information for guests" on Booking.com. There is a 500 euros deposit after you pay for your stay. This is reasonable as the apartment is nicely furnished, but... here it starts, the tip of the iceberg. Jump to the end of the "didn't like" review for the issue with the deposit, as "the cherry on top".
Their messaging is just extremely impolite and inefficient. They constantly threaten to cancel your (non-refundable) booking if you do not send the deposit or fill out their check-in form. The messages are crazily long and rude (see pics). I even had to call Booking.com to verify if the deposit request was a scam. It seemed so, based on their repeated long messages. They double-write the information in French and English as if we do not live in the digital era, where our devices have translation capabilities. But the terms and conditions are only available in French.
The instructions to pay the deposit are as long as an independence manifesto and as complicated as hell. They highlight till exhaustion a transference reference number that MUST follow a specific format. Otherwise, the END OF THE WORLD (see pics). Guess what. After trying many times to transfer the money (Apple Pay did not work) and telling them about the issue, they sent me a reference code that WAS NOT in the format described in their instructions. I spent one hour trying to pay! Your time and comfort are not on the mind of this host. Following on, they messaged me outside the Booking.com app. Said they would send the payment details again shortly. They did it three days before my stay with a very rude message (pay-or-die kind of tone).
All fields in the check-in form are mandatory. So, you are forced to provide some personal information that, in my experience, is only requested at consulates. Why the hell do they need to know my marital status???
Two days before arrival, they send you a three-page-long reminder about the deposit via Booking.com and to your personal email AS WELL. Even if you have paid the deposit already! Is there a need for this automated, inefficient distress???
No hand soap in the bathroom. Terrible WIFI, even in the living room next to the router (see pics). Very uncomfortable, cheap pillows.
During your stay, you’re constantly threatened with penalties if you don’t leave the keys where they say, if you leave the apartment after the check-out time, etc. But I had to ask three times for my invoice!
On the check-out day, surprise! I got an email saying they would deduct the city tourist taxes from my deposit. They say on Booking.com that deposit would be refunded in full if no damage is reported to the property. Also, there is no mention of this tax during the booking process. The amount of this tax is not disclosed in the “surprise” email they send after your stay (see pics). So, I only got to know the amount when they refunded my deposit with a deduction. Needless to say that I will never come back to this place or any other this host has on Booking.com.
- Laszlo (3/5): - Location was perfect for us. The accommodation requires a €500 deposit, and until the transfer and the proof of payment in PDF format are sent by email, no check-in information is provided.
The links in the Booking.com messages that contained the instructions for entering the property had all been removed, so it was impossible to view the necessary information. Because of this, accessing the apartment was a real challenge.
Communication takes place through short messages in French, and the tone is not particularly polite.
We requested that the bed in the living room be prepared for sleeping, but this did not happen; they simply sent a brief text message saying they probably forgot.
The bed linens were extremely wrinkled — it felt as though someone had slept in them before. The heating in the bedroom was not working, and it was quite cold at the end of October.
The bed in the living room is extremely uncomfortable for sleeping.
The toilet seat moves uncomfortably.
It is practical to take photos of the damaged elements in the kitchen and all other delicate furniture so that there are no disputes when the deposit is refunded.
We left everything in good order, placed the keys back in the mailbox, and requested confirmation that they had found the apartment in satisfactory condition. In a short reply, they only stated that they have two weeks to return the deposit.
A transfer did indeed arrive two weeks later, but €35.03 had been deducted from the deposit. When we asked why this happened, we received no clear explanation — it was supposedly either a banking fee or a tourist tax. We pointed out that neither at the time of booking nor in the email from the host was there any information stating that anything would be deducted from the deposit; in both places it clearly said that the full amount would be refunded.
Finally, we filed a complaint with Booking.com Customer Service, and they refunded the deducted amount to our Wallet, as it had been an unjustified deduction.
- Tabea Deborah Ulrike (8/5): - The appartment was very nice, looked like it has been recently renovated and it was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and although the blanket was very heavy and seemed thick, it was not too warm but very comforting. The procedure before the arrival was a bit strange, and not just once I thought it might be a scam given all the information they asked for. I was glad that the appartment actually existed. Also, I could only sleep until around 6am because the traffic was quite noisy.
- Riccardo (5/5): A bad experience, especially due to the poor management of Hexuvium - The apartment itself is decent, clean and with a nice view. I rarely write reviews, but in this case I would like to inform future Booking customers. The flat itself is nice and well maintained, even if there were few problems during our stay (I will only mention the heating, which did not work in the room, and the building, which is not the nicest, with a very busy petrol station on the ground floor). The real problem was the booking management, which was handled by a third-party company called Hexuvium. This is convenient for the owner because they take care of everything, but very inconvenient for the guest due to the indirect contact, extremely cold communication and poor booking management. Difficult communication, insistent and inappropriate requests (I was asked to provide my gender and marital status, which I didn't really see the need for), obligation to pay a large deposit (€500) outside the platform, total lack of flexibility in check-in and check-out times (they didn't even respond to my enquiry about the possibility of early check-in, and if you check out a bit late, they charge you for an extra night). In summary: a shame, a pretty bad experience, especially due to the poor management of Hexuvium, which seems to only want to bill as much as possible at the expense of the customer experience.
- Romain (8/5): Nice apartment, same as description without hidden defects. - Comfort, decoration, all the needed kitchen tools to cook nice meals.
Bathroom is also really nice No expendables (no spices, salt, oil, washing machine liquid or 1x dishwasher tablets)
The fuel smell from the station is not nice when in elevator but no smell in the apartment at all
