• Rachael (1/5): Appalling customer service from the host of this otherwise lovely, well located apartment. - Clean, comfortable, good location. Awful customer service from host resulting in an appalling experience. When we arrived at the apartment to discover how lovely it was and how well located, we were initially delighted. HOWEVER …. At lunchtime on the first day of our stay, the keyless entry system failed, leaving us locked out of the apartment for over an hour. The host did eventually turn up and let us in with a master key. When we expressed concern that the fault with the keyless entry system might be a recurring one and asked if he could supply us with a back up key, he said this wouldn’t be possible as he only had a master key. When I said we felt this left us in a position where we couldn’t be confident we could leave the apartment and then get back in again, our host asked if we’d prefer to stay somewhere else. He said if we were able to find alternative accommodation, he would fully refund our booking. We took him up on this and (at significant expense) booked into a nearby hotel. Only after we had done this did our host then advise me that he could actually leave a backup key. By then we had already paid for the hotel. Long story short, having suggested we might prefer to stay elsewhere and offered a full refund, he then refused to issue said refund, arguing that in leaving us a key, he had resolved our issue. When I challenged this, things got unpleasant. In our haste to get packed up and moved across to the hotel so we could salvage what remained of the first of our 2 day stay in Edinburgh, a couple of us inadvertently left our pyjamas behind (they were under pillows, so easily missed). Our host claimed this was evidence we hadn’t vacated as we claimed we had, and that he planned to submit ‘access logs and external cctv as evidence of a late departure’. When I queried what he could possibly mean by this as we hadn’t returned to the property since moving across to the hotel, I received absolutely no reply, let alone an explanation.
