The rooms were stunning, so many added extras like salt for the bath tub, bubble bath, all made it extra special. The breakfast was divine, and Lloyd was also great. Nothing it was fab!!

Each bedroom was beautifully decorated with incredible attention to detail. The hot tub on the terrace with views of the sea and mountains was the icing on the cake! Excellent service from the staff, so helpful throughout the stay. Nothing!

• Linda (7/5): Great Views - We stayed here as I’ve always been curious about this spot overlooking the ocean. The location is lovely, and the views are definitely a highlight. We did end up moving rooms as we could hear our neighbours quite clearly, which wasn’t ideal. That said, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the beds are very comfortable. Walking distance to restaurants and the beach If you’re a light sleeper, just be aware that traffic noise can be quite noticeable as the area gets busy, and parking can also be a bit of a challenge.

Easy checkin - although we did have to go and find someone when we arrived. Lovely chilled vibe. Excellent location. Lovely breakfast served outside our room. Could have some improved privacy. Our room was lovely but did get quite stuffy - would’ve loved an conditioner or stronger fan. A few little things needed attention - the sparkling water in the fridge was a nice touch but the lid wasn’t sealed tightly so it wasn’t sparkling. A dirty water glass. Loose towel rail. Our breakfast dishes weren’t cleared - so left for more than an hour outside our room after being done etc.

• Neil (8/5): We were happy, and felt taken care of in this beautiful, quaint hotel. - We loved the location and the aesthetic of The Stoep. It looked rusty and felt like it tried hard to keep the original Cape Dutch style with a splash of modern. We didn't stay very long so we didn't get a chance to use the jacuzzi or try the wine tasting. I also thought the WhatsApp group was very clever and a nice personal touch. My 2 cents, I think the large TV in each room were a bit weird. I don't think they go well with the place spoilt it a little for me. We immediately turned it off. The toilet in our room doesn't flush well. We had to always flush 3 times for the toilet paper to finally go away. The taps in the shower made us giggle. It was like trying to solve a puzzle on how to close the taps. The cold water shower tap opens if you turn it left or right and when you try to shut off the water it's a bit of a game. It sounds like I am moaning, but those 3 points are really really minor.

• Sophie (4/5): Not as expected. - The staff were incredible at this property, they were so helpful and lovely and were incredibly welcoming. Excellent location and views. Unfortunately, the property was satisfactory and felt more like a nice hostel as opposed to a hotel. The building was extremely run down, with the aesthetics clearly rushed and not fully completed; with the smell of paint and plastering in our room. There were cracks, poor plastering with limited facilities. The bathroom particularly did not resemble the photos in the slightest, with no natural light, an incomplete interior, with no hand soap, no shelves to store cosmetics and an unwelcome surprise of cockroaches in the bathroom. In the bedroom, the layout was very poorly designed, with plug sockets in the wrong places meaning that a cord ran across the floor space to keep the fridge on; with the fridge then emitting an extremely bright light that meant we had to unplug it during the night. The outdoor space outside our room felt more communal as opposed to being private, with other guests at the hotel using the space directly outside our room which felt a little invasive. It felt like the property had been ‘done up’ in a very short time period, and has never been fully finished. We were very disappointed, as the photos made the property feel like a lavish room and hotel stay, but the reality is that this property has huge flaws from a structural point of view, despite the aesthetics being nice to cover the cracks. Poor value for money.

• Batya (5/5): Not worth the price - The location is beautiful and the house itself has charm. The interior decoration, layout and attention to detail is poor and cheap. For places in this price range one expects top quality, well maintained and comfortable interior. The staff are friendly but overall it’s clear that the Ideas Cartel saw an opportunity for another property, took it over and turned it into a BnB in the cheapest way possible. We saw a similar thing happen at Sonnekus guest house- we stayed there three times and then decided to never go back.

• Chanel (6/5): A lovely stay for a night away however, a lot of maintenance needs to be put in to meet the price. - Location is amazing - right near the Dalebrook tidal pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I paid a lot for a one night stay (over R3k) and the room needed a lot of maintenance - there were holes in the wall, paint peeling off the shower, some finishes were broken and had not been repaired well. It was disappointing especially when paying such a high rate - the expectation is that it would be flawless.

They need a proper manager. The attention to detail is lacking. Damp in the shower. Badly finished finishes. Peeling wall paper. We couldn’t order wine or bubbly and apparently they couldn’t get it from Stoep either. They forgot to turn on the hot tub for our morning session. Cleaning cloths left outside to dry. Just general tardiness.

Comfortably furnished - Location and lovely comfortable furnishings in the room Didn’t like the steps to access the other side of the property - a gate would’ve been better. The bedroom is stuffy during the night as the windows can open but can be a security Irish.
• Cecilia (9/5): Delightful Kalkbay stay - Stoep is conveniently located in the heart of Kalkbay, close to restaurants shops as well as the tidal pool. There is a lovely coastal walkway that stretches in both directions as you leave the hotel. It is a perfect stay for our purpose of a quick breakaway weekend. Faith and staff were ever so helpful and the breakfasts were delicious and plentiful! We love the decor and old work charm of the hotel so tastefully decorated. Our favourite was enjoying the hot tub at night looking at the stars and listening to the sea.

• hutcheson (7/5): Fantastic Staff and great hotel, next to a busy road. - Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, especially Sandelie and Faith. All staff introduced themselves by name on first meeting which was a nice touch. The breakfasts were very good. The hotel was well located for visiting the many shops, bars, restaurants and tidal pools. For us the room was too hot and we would’ve preferred air-conditioning. As our room was at the front of the hotel we were disturbed by the road and train noise which also made sitting on the beautiful balcony less relaxing.

• Mandy (10/5): 10/10 for all aspects of our stay - This boutique guest house exceeded our expectations at all levels from the pre-arrival communication, the welcome drink, the spacious modern sea-facing room to the uber-comfortable bed, upmarket linen and friendly staff. Really a great choice for Kalk Bay. We had a tasty breakfast and the restaurants were within walking distance. The Google directions from Booking.com take you off course and get you lost up little narrow streets. We recommend you get a pin drop from the host, Faith.

Loved the sea view from the upper stoep and the hot tub was awesome. Easy access to the tidal pool and Kalk bay restaurants are bonus. Breakfast is the best. The rooms are furnished with high quality furnishings which contributes to the pampering and restful atmosphere. All-in-all a good rest.

The bath. The WiFi was down and we couldn't watch TV or connect to WiFi. Our room type needed air-con. There was a fan but the room gets hot.

It is a beautiful spot for a small family or solo traveler and is close to the main spots in Kalk Bay. I did not want to leave and will definitely be back. The breakfast was delicious!
• Melanie (8/5): Nice place to stay in Kalk Bay - lovely staff, close to the shops and restaurants in Kalk Bay, nicely decorated rooms, parking was possible on the side street directly next to the hotel (we assume that this might be an issue during high season due to limited parking options) the accommodation is located directly next to the main street which leads to a higher noise level during rush hour (esp. morning hours)

Wifi wasn’t working the entire duration of our stay which wasn’t ideal we needed internet access & it meant the smart tv wasn’t working either. No door to bathroom so not much privacy when using loo or showering. Little detailed bath salt bowls had been used by previous guest but not refilled.

I also have to mention that the breakfasts are very yummy and there is something for everyone. Most importantly, we really appreciate that they accommodated our 2 lil doggies.
