Guest Reviews
- Lukasz (4/5): - Location.
Rooms were clean from what I could see.
Stuff was nice. Breakfast was terrible. We went down for breakfast and half of items were not available. We were still charged full price.
Whole hotel smells like hospital.
Noise from lift and other rooms - walls and ceiling are paper thin.
Fire alarm turned on randomly for 15 seconds at 7 in morning.
Hotel is very outdated.
- Frances (5/5): Disappointing - Bathroom was worn and shabby and had been repaired badly - horrible filler all over side of bath
Wi-Fi difficult to access
- Milan (10/5): - everything was nice and fine, beautiful location, just the view from the room was not the best but not everybody can have it :)
- Tom (8/5): Nice old but modernised hotel, beautifully appointed with pleasant staff and good breakfast - Fine old hotel with modern extension and excellent facilities. Helpful staff, nice fresh breakfast. Close to the centre of beautiful Oban. Only issue was lift out of order, but this was advised at booking and not really a problem for me, though on 4th floor.
- GSF (8/5): Worth a return visit - Room number 5. Comfortable and brilliant view. Shower/Bath combination
- Shirley (9/5): -
- Roger (3/5): Good location but hotel facilities very dated and in need of refurbishment. Breakfast very basic. -
- Ashley (5/5): - Location ease of access. Staff were ok but didn't seem to be able to know area.
- Kath (6/5): It was fine for 1 night - Location The bed was a bit hard and wasn’t comfortable for me
- Marie (10/5): Lovely stay in Oban - The Hotel was lovely, very comfy bed and complementary water still/sparkling and a good selection of tea and coffee was supplied in bedroom, also had an iron and ironing board and hairdryer, breakfast was great with good selection, very happy with Hotel. The hotel does have a parking area but very tight and small , if you can't get a space you can park on roadside outside hotel but you have to pay for this and it can get quite expensive.
- bluecruiser (6/5): - Nice location good size room clean good offer of evening meals Lift not working. The room key card had to be reset every day.
Various issues like the window would not close properly and took three days to fix plumbing issues and so on.
Still waiting for proper coffee machine two months after opening.
Poor breakfast for graded hotel
Pump action flasks for hot drinks
Run out cereals run out pastry's
And thought choice offered..
Vegetarian option was mushroom tomatoes potatoes scone and overcooked fried egg.but was same for meat option .no porridge kippers or salmon .if bb expect that but not three star hotel
- Hanno (6/5): -
- Patricia (6/5): Slightly disappointed for above reasons, though staff were trying hard. - Very pleasant staff, always trying to be helpful, and responsive to any problems.
Lovely view of Oban Bay. Given a room on the 4th floor, even after saying that I walk with a stick. Lift out of order (for how long?) though staff apologised for this. Told me that booking.com only gets 3rd and 4th floor rooms. A real struggle for me to reach our room!
Slightly disorganised in the restaurant with new recruits being trained.
Be aware that if you are on half board, it only covers 2 courses (enough for us) and supplements on some main courses.
Not enough parking: had to park on the street for our first night.
No plug for en suite sink: reported this and were given a plug - but bath plug size so didn’t fit.
- David (7/5): The staff were kind and well intentioned which goes a long way to feeling comfortable. - Enjoyed the slightly out of centre location. Big issue was the lift under repair
- Bridget (8/5): Very convenient for Oban ferry - 5 minutes away. Helpful staff, good breakfast and comfy room - Excellent breakfast. Staff helpful and assisted with parking. We have stayed there before and had a lovely room. Not really enough on site parking. Staff did their best to shoehorn us all in.
- Mary (5/5): satisfactory only - Lack of car parking, bedroom window did not shut, shower leaked over bathroom floor
Receptionist pushed evening meal menu at us before we had even seen our room
- amanda (8/5): warm, cosy, decent location, clean - I only stayed two nights and wasnt expecting much in the way of room updates, however, both days the room was refreshed and restocked. I was surprised by the range of goodies in the room tbh. There wasnt much I could add here except just to be told the checkout time (10am) when arriving so that I knew outright. It was easy enough to check the booking app however, and the reception was always staffed so it would have also been possible to ask.

- alain (3/5): Je ne reviendrai pas …. - I Chambres minuscules
- marie (10/5): Excellent hotel . - The hotel is in an excellent location overlooking the sea.We stayed in Queen Victoria suite. It was very large with modern bathroom, sitting room and large bedroom.Sitting room and bathroom had a sea view.Breakfast had great choices, fruit, cereals, meats, pastries and full cooked options.Staff were very pleasant. There is free parking but it has very limited spaces. We had a very pleasant stay and will definitely return. There was nothing we didn’t like.We enjoyed the whole experience.
- Murray James (3/5): Great location but hotel is tired needs updating. - Location was excellent nice walk into the centre of town. Breakfast was of a good quality and plentiful. The shower in the in suite was excellent My room was tired and had a smell of dampness. My room location was very noisy on asking at reception if it was a quiet room I was told depends who’s sleeping next door !!
- William (9/5): - Lovely room staff great Tv In room nt working
- Duarte (10/5): -
- Rebecca (4/5): Great staff, despite the obvious cost cutting by management - The staff were very friendly and helpful, despite working in a hotel where cost cutting by management/owner is very visible. The shrine to the owner at the entrance hall, spoke volumns about what sort of hotel this was. It is very apparent that management and owners are scrimping on cost - facilities that need repair, repair work clearly on the cheap, cost cutting on the food quality and TV licence arrangements. The staff do an amazing job despite all of this.
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Emma (7/5): Promenade front old victorian hotel in Oban - Breakfast was good particularly when the chef took our order directly v buffet. Room was very spacious. access to the beach was excellent and views and a quick walk to shops and restaurants. Nice little bar and pool table that we wished we had more time to use. Check in was a little slow, behind a lot of other guests in the warm lobby - and the key was mixed up due to the amount of people being handled at one time. We requested a bin liner and it never came. We didn't get good communication on the breakfast timing and came too early on the weekend but was accommodated.
- bluecruiser (3/5): - Nice staff good location Lift broken not told guest in advance could be important if disabled.
Staffing on a shoestring not enough reception bar and together one in dining rooms drinks orders serving clearing.
No maintance there days to fix issues still waiting
- Henk (4/5): I wouldn't recommend this hotel, although perhaps the suites are better. - The staff members I had contact with were very friendly and pleasant. Breakfast was nice. The toilet in my room wasn't cleaned properly. Gave it a wipe myself. The shower screen leaks, so the bath mat was soaked after showering. I couldn't close the window, but discovered that pushing the handle beyond the normal setting would wedge the window shut. There were hardly any TV channels, but I figured out how to re-tune it myself. Not sure what was on one of the bedside tables, but it looked like mold and it was sticky. The floors are terribly creaky, so people upstairs walking around endlessly during the night kept me awake. The doors need to have door closers of course, but they're not adjusted properly, so the doors slam shut very loudly. The curtains are not blackout curtains.
- Alan (8/5): Very enjoyable stay - Great position, very clean and lovely staff Single beds are quite small
- ScotLadd (9/5): - Unexpectadly nice hotel. Before MGM it was a dump. It us being improved in every adpect . Happily will return. My room was an expedition to get to mybroom. The lifts were out of service.
- Pawsey (6/5): Staff very attentive but lacking in numbers they worked very hard and would give them credit - Location great
Full breakfast good could have been a little bit hotter
Was not asked how you would like the eggs cooked??
Lack of Basics
Butter ; fresh milk and the toaster not set had to go through 3 times for hard toast that could take butter As above
- PAULINE (9/5): Oban stay - The room with fabulous views The bathroom shower was a bit poor re pressure but still ok
- Andy (6/5): -
- Kurtis James (7/5): - Location There was no food service for dinner and our first breakfast.
- archie (5/5): Pleasant staff, reasonable value, room for improvement in some areas - Good location. Large bed with small duvet!!! Reported faulty hair dryer, potential fire hazard, no action taken.
Room on 4th floor, lift out of order. attention to safety, a working lift, duvets that fit the beds
- William (9/5): - Location and friendly staff Nothing
- Thomas (7/5): Highly recommend! - Great location, great stuff! Parking was a challenge at late arrival - all parking was full. But stuff did help to squeeze in my car, wich I much appreciated!
- Edwards (8/5): - Overall good Breakfast was slow had to wait for cups and refills
- Stephen (10/5): One night prior to ferry - perfect. - Exceptionally clean and bright. A delight.
- keith howells (8/5): Lift not working - Location was excellent .staff were proffesional and attentive. Window did not latch requires fixing.lift was broken and we were located on 4th floor .staff did help with cases on arrival
- Andrew (7/5): Very pleased. Will def return. - Excellent location. Good value for money. Friendly staff. Good breakfast For breakfast hash browns were still frozen in the middle.
- Bridget (8/5): great for an overnight stop. - Excellent Breakfast and very helpful and caring staff. Very close to Ferry to Mull which was the main consideration Rooms are very warm but the corridor was a bit cold no other issues at all
- Jennifer (3/5): - Breakfast was good.
Staff were polite. Paper-thin walls.
Room was a very long walk from the reception area and the lift was broken.
Very limited parking in the tight hotel car park. We ended up having to park on the street outside, which was pay and display.
On our final night, we were woken up around 1am by guests arguing in the corridor outside our room. They couldn’t get into their room, so hotel staff began hammering the keycard mechanism on their door at 1am. This went on for some time and they then hoovered up the mess they had made!
- Robert (4/5): Hotel Needs an overall to keep up with present day.Dissapointed overall and I think some sort refund - Really not a lot
Stayed in this hotel around 8/9 years and it had a good name then but unfortunately not present day 1-Dining Area was COLD No heating
At Dinner they put on a small blower heater under our table.
My wife paid a supplement for the Salmon dish
Vegetables were hard same as potatoes.
Room-Telivision Signal Poor so couldn't watch anything later that evening Reported issue to reception Answer gave me Weather Related
Following morning Sunny No wind etc TV still the same.
Small issue No matt to put down in bath to support you from slipping
No heating in 80% of the hotel
Corridors freezing along with bar and lounge area.
- Chris (5/5): Overnight stay in Oban - Good location, friendly staff, fair price. Hotel noise insulation was bad, hence very little sleep. Our room smelled of cigarette smoke. Parking at the hotel was difficult.
- Caroline (8/5): Good value for money. - Excellent service at breakfast. Cooked breakfast good. The customer service at check-in. Being located on the 4th floor with no lift.
- Trish (1/5): Don't book this hotel - The room wasn't available due to no electric and no kitchen when we arrived so we were diverted to a sister hotel after driving 3 miles out of our way. The room was tiny and not very clean at all. There were no chairs. The shower was pokey and way too small. The hotel was unkempt and dirty. It was noisy and we were had to endure someone banging on a door trying to wake someone up for at least half an hour at 5.30am unsuccessfully and then again half an hour later. No parking
- Fiona (5/5): Average - Excellent location on the sea front. Ok selection of food at breakfast Room was basic, curtains didn’t fit the window but were changed when I spoke to reception. Shower ok, not great.
- John (9/5): Lovely stay at this hotel - Lovely hotel, near to town centre and great view across Oban. Staff very friendly and professional Not anything just a missing handle on window so couldn’t actually close the window tight which was fine for us as weather was nice but for anybody staying in Room 31 when weather a bit rough might struggle. Went to tell reception when checking out but no sign of anybody, waited 5 mins and then left my room key card and headed away.
- Roddy (8/5): -
- Lewis (2/5): Poor nights sleep due to maintenance employee at 2am. - Staff were friendly Walls were very thin, uncomfortable bed and the maintenance employee was banging fixing a door at 2am and I couldn’t get back to sleep.
- Mark (6/5): - Good location Lift not working & no restaurant closed ? , made life difficult for my colleague he as difficulty getting about with bad knees.
- Jennifer (1/5): -
- Vincent-Squibb (9/5): -
- Leann (7/5): - Good location, good breakfast (menu of cooked breakfast options plus a buffet with toast, pastries, coffee, etc). The room had a small en suite with a toilet and shower/bath tub. The lounge area was cosy and nicely furnished. The room was a long way from the reception, up two sets of stairs. The car park out the front of the hotel was full, we found paid parking on the street instead.
- Lana (10/5): -
- Victor (7/5): Lovely location - The very central location and lovely views It seems like it has been refurbished recently, and there was still a slight smell of paint.
- Maclachlan (3/5): - First of all the lift was out of order. my wife is 84 and I am 85 and our room was on the 4th floor !. The dining room was out of action for dinner and the tv controller was not working when we got to our room, but this was repaired. All in all, I think that some form of reparation is not unreasonable.
- Andrew (1/5): It was awful and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There was a photo of the owner Mr Muthu a supposed billionaire i - Its location was ok Where should I start!!
The lift was out of order
There were stains on the bed sheet
There was no shower mat
The sink plug was clearly for a different sink
The tv remote didn't work despite my going back and forth to reception from the room four times and it still didn't work!
The breakfast was poor and only luke warm
The poor receptionist had had a bad day. The person who was on the desk when we checked out asked if everything was ok and when I said not really he just smiled. He didn't understand English.
- John (9/5): -
- Radek (3/5): - Měli jsme rezervovaný 2 pokoje s oddělenými postelemi pro 4 lidi. Paní recepční nám dala jeden jednolůžkový pokoj a druhý s manželskou postelí. Bylo nám řečeno, že jiné pokoje nemají. Po dlouhém dohadování nám recepční dala pokoje co jsme měli rezervovaný a zaplacený přes booking.
- Marion (5/5): - Bed was comfy . Room was clean Lift out of order. Having to go to the sister hotel for dinner. Beer in bar was off.
- Raymond (7/5): -
- Paul (5/5): - Staff friendly Hotel was dated. Needs a refurb.
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Alan (6/5): -
- Mark (6/5): - Good location friendly staff Old dated hotel, needs a bit of refurb
- Linda (8/5): - Great location. Not enough parking. Rooms clean and comfortable but a little jaded.
- Blandinr (1/5): UNACCEPTABLE. DO NOT BOOK . Shame the place is lovely but been abandoned as regard to service. - Upgraded to a room with a view Dinner was included in booking. On arrival told we had to have dinner in other hotel then 20mns before told that we could stay. The staff consisting of receptionist and a cook ! gallop through the dinner hall. Considering the amount we pay it was normal to expect some quality and professional service. Wasn't the case. The food was of very bad quality. I asked for a "chowder" and got tomatoes soup with smoked salmon not looking fresh and a slice of garlic bread . Steak was like a sole of a shoe, etc .. first money "Scottish fry" consisted of egg and one uneatable reheated dry and aged slice of bacon , very fat , . one of us got full of fat thin black pudding . toss tomatoe a and mushrooms tasting as Chinese food! And some very fat hash browns (deep fry from frozen) The french pastry was black on top . Looked like frozen one that had been put under the grill . Next day I asked for scrambled eggs and they were as if half cooked in microwave .
We were charged £10.50 for a very small plastic bottle of carbonated water that was in the room (no apparent notice that they were t free)
Also there was a strong smell of white spirit about as place had been painted
- gartshore (8/5): Would stay here again. - The breakfast was very good. Great choices of good food.
With a location on the prom the views were excellent and the walk into town was quick and on the flat.
- F D (10/5): - Emplacement, décor, personnel... Rien à redire Rien
- Farrell (8/5): Comfortable and relaxing - Breakfast was good could've done with more scrambled eggs Would've liked a room with a sea view
- Lorna (9/5): Nice place, good value - Staff were friendly, room was freshly decorated and new bathroom. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was excellent. The bar was open in the evening and the Lounge area is very comfortable. The floors creaked and the person in the room above us was up at 06:45 in the morning !!
- Beata (10/5): - The price is great for the location and the view from the room was stunning. Everything was clean and bed was super comfortable. Stuff was really nice. Hotel is not replying on Booking so better is to call them if you need. There is also a bar and living area. The parking is small but you can park on the road, 6pm-9am is for free.
- Kate (6/5): Pleasant, but had several bad points. - The hotel is lovely, decorated nicely and welcoming. Beds are comfy, rooms are clean, staff are friendly. The first day we went out, staff ignored the 'Do Not Disturb' sign hung on the door and entered to clean anyway.
The hottub advertised is not a hottub but jacuzzi jets in the bathtub. Grossly misadvertised. Also, no clear instructions as how to operate left out- had to ask a member of the cleaning staff. Switch is in the wardrobe BTW!
The staff did not notice that the pints they were pouring on our first night were flat as pancakes and they poured two in succession. We had to tell them and ask for something else as they either did not know how to hook up a new barrel or had none left.
There were quite a few nights where there was no chef- we ended up getting take out delivered to the hotel these nights.
There is a lift, but it was not working during our week there and a member of staff let slip it hadn't been working for quite some time!
There is A LOT of stairs, spread over 4 floors... we booked three rooms, requesting that all 3 be put together and the hotel gave us one on each seperate floor! We would not have minded, but the hotel was empty except for us and maybe 5 other people. It would not have been too much effort to put us all together.
- Toni (9/5): -
- Holt (8/5): - The view from our room was just stunning, looking out across the Oban Bay,huge bay windows gave a fantastic outlook. Breakfast was a bit disorganised
- Guest (1/5): -
- Johan (7/5): Great place, good price. Friendly staff. - Price, location, friendly staff. Shower was not working great. Cleaner forgot to lock the door of the room.
- Karen (10/5): Enjoyable quiet break - Staff were really nice and pleasant View was off back court , not a big issue !
- 9190b39f6dd47060f77427524f471797 (9/5): great location close to town centre and helpful staff and to top it of good breakfast - great location and great price and helpful staff none

- fa111a5d5e1d7253495d530c6859052c (7/5): - Good value for money. Needs a wee bit TLC. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. They didn't always get breakfast right, and not a lot of continental choice.

- 375e0f2ee0ac72eb01a901f3153b5ae6 (2/5): Not value for money ,, far from it - I paid more for king room with sea view,, when u view on booking.com u think its the white building were ur room will be , but what they don’t say or show you is the building behind is were ur room is and yes u can see the sea between roof tops ,, hardly a sea view , first room window did not open, handle broken so they changed room and second room you couldn’t lock the door from inside, not ideal when doors left open while your sleeping, again they changed room IE upgrade 2 a room were room was damp not an enjoyable experience from start 2 finish,, all these problems with window, door and kettle wasn’t working,, should have been fixed before charging money for rooms , paying in advance before seeing what ur getting is false advertising, rooms behind the hotel in a separate building, is definitely not what u think ur paying for ,,, disappointed in hotel and disappointed in booking . - a17f2c4ae72d70619ab23ef94a093696 (9/5): Great stay in Oban. - Staff all very friendly, helpful and welcomed us on arrival & throughout our stay. Good rooms, comfy huge bed & warm. Breakfast was good, some fresh fruit would have been nice!
- Sam (7/5): - Excellent location with beautiful view. Large, comfortable and clean room. The service at Breakfast was haphazard, with limited choice. The cooking and temperature of the hot breakfast was inconsistent.
