Guest Reviews
- Jupitrr (4/5): Out of 7 hotels on this trip this one was not up to the mark for us. - Nice decor, bathroom pleasant though not enough space to put down a small cosmetic bag. Bed comfortable, good linen. Dining room well presented with pleasant young staff and excellent cheese board. We were looking forward to staying at this hotel having seen good reviews but unfortunately we had booked a room when there was a wedding taking place. We didn't arrive until after 5pm, tired after a long journey and looking forward to relaxing with a drink. We left our bags in the room and went downstairs but when we came into the tiny reception area we were told 'Sorry no bar until 7pm when the restaurant opens, sorry no salon to sit in, there's a wedding taking place'. There is nothing worse than being thirsty and seeing someone carry drinks out to their party and then to be told that we couldn't have any, We felt like a second class guest. You cannot run a hotel and say no drinks to people when they can see other people enjoying these facilities. If we had been told 'one moment and I will find somewhere for you to sit and bring you a drink that would have meant everything, instead we felt rejected and a nuisance. You might think that we could have sat in the bedroom but not this time. Usually we like quirky and a room in the eves wouldn't be a problem but its a different matter when there is nowhere else to sit. It's a good job that we are short as it was difficult to make our way around the bed without hitting our heads and definitely not somewhere to spend time while waiting for the restaurant to open. There was a desk and chair but nowhere for the second guest to sit. Later I saw through the restaurant window that there was a terrace with tables and chairs but maybe that was already occupied with wedding guests. Having just left an excellent hotel in the Loire where we had plenty of places to sit, inside or out, a full size room and our own terrace all at the same cost we were somewhat disappointed. The cost for this particular room was too expensive. I remember thinking this when I sat up in bed and hit my head on the sloping ceiling.

- Cole (10/5): - Another delightful stay at Chateau du Bost with comfortable room anc excellent Dinner and breakfast
- Kevin (9/5): Enjoyed the stay and would recommend the hotel - A great place to stay Cant think of anything
- Barry (9/5): Nice hotel - the food is the highlight worth it for this alone - The food was fantastic Colouring of the room
- Stanford (10/5): We had the most perfect time at the Chateau du Bost. - The Chateau is charming with plenty of onsite parking. The rooms, staff and facilities excellent. The highlight of our stay was our evening meal. The restaurant has atmosphere, the staff are friendly, professional and courteous. The service we received during our meal was second to none. We had the 'Menu Bost Confort' a variety of the most excellent cooked dishes. There is also have a superb selection of cheeses and wines. This is a MUST for foodies! The weather, it rained for most of our stay....
- Nick (9/5): Enjoyable venue where met up with close fri ends to have a lovely evenin dining together . - Dining Experience was exceptional. Distance from city centre not walkable.
- Rosie (10/5): Lovely place to stay, friendly staff, great food and dog friendly - The food was absolutely amazing and accommodating thé dogs was a bonus
Alles was uns schmeckte! Leider hat die Klimaanlage im einen Zimmer nicht funktioniert.
- Malcolm (9/5): - Clean, quiet and staff excellent.Food very good. We were travelling with 3 beagles so didn't expect room to be so good.Ensuite huge, with great water pressure. We arrived at 1420, and the place was all locked up with no staff anywhere. After a bit of help from a guest at the hotel, we were told that on a Monday, the hotel doesn't open till 1500. But were not informed. Didn't spoil our stay
- Eszter_74 (9/5): Definitely recommended! :) - We stayed for just one night on our way from Paris to Barcelona. We only needed a good night's sleep, but we got much more. We spent a really pleasant evening on the terrace with a superb gourmet dinner, surrounded by singing birds and frogs. This one-night stay became a memorable point of our holiday. The air conditioner was rather loud at night.
- Martin (10/5): We stayed there for the second time and most likely come back once again - The Chateau, the surroundings, close to Vichy but out in the green. Big & nice room, perfect bathroom. Perfect aircon in the room (was 34degrees). Friendly and very competent staff. Very good restaurant, we had dinner twice there - and very good breakfast. Nothing
- Jo (10/5): A memorable Chateaux, superb. - Beautiful location. Offered a drink on the patio listing to the frog chorus. Splendid dinner, excellent quality and a cheese selection that I will be dreaming of long after our holiday has finished. Comfortable room with a beautiful bathroom. Amazingly attentive staff. Nothing
- Delia (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (7/5): Good - Good ambience & friendly staff. Good food. Comfortable bed. Very cramped room, bath/shower inadequate.. Unable to open the windows fully. Air conditioning ineffective. No comfortable seating.
- Ronald (3/5): Did not achieve the expected standard. - The bedroom was satisfactory and easy parking. A poor dinner and breakfast.
- Uk (8/5): Tremendous restaurant - The restaurant. This was why we booked the hotel and it did not disappoint. Great chef, we went for the premium tasting menu and accompanying wines. Meant they did all the choosing for us; great value for michelin level cuisine.
And once ordered discovered that the waiters did know a little English which helped Check in was a little challenging because I don't speak French very well; the man who checked us in had some English but chose not to use it. But we muddled through
Room was the cheapest one they have, its a little disappointing for the price being at the top of the chateau and not in the main building.
Breakfast disappointing
- Nicholas (5/5): more of a conference center than a hotel. zero lounge space. no bar, - good food noisy heating system in the room made sleep difficult.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - Location, excellent meal and very comfortable room
- John (10/5): A classy place that is very helpful and professional, just what I needed - I thought Hotel du Bost was really excellent, the location is very quiet, zero road noise and sound from other room/s was really negligible. The historic nature of the building is a real plus, and the multi-course dinner they served, along with the amazing spectrum of cheeses was top notch, I'd never had such a dinner! I think it probably rivals what you can get in Paris, but I've never eaten there yet. The hotel was also VERY helpful in getting a few of my garments washed, the very next day they were back, wow. There is no common laundry for guests to use, I just asked if I might be able to get some things washed and they did, no problem. A real service. I can't say I "didn't like it" because I don't like to be the stupid one-language American tourist who expects everyone everywhere to speak English, but I think it would be to the hotel's advantage if they drilled their staff in a little bit of basic English. It would just raise the versatility of the place. But this area (Vichy) is not, I think, a real go-to place for tourists and I would never lower my rating of the hotel or the area just because there weren't a lot of English speakers. I just used Google Translator a lot which I think made it easier on the staff.
- Sarah (8/5): Perfect for us - travelling to Italy - great atmosphere and food - We loved the location, food was amazing - staff super friendly
- Alistair (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (8/5): Nice but expensive - Building was lovely, terrace for evening meal was very nice and staff were attentive Night at hotel, breakfast, 2 course evening meal for two with two drinks each approx €320
- Stephen (3/5): Totally disappointing accommodation.! - Our room was small. The door to her bathroom hit the bed and didn’t fully open. A mobile air conditioning unit had a large vent pipe sticking through a boarded up central part of the window with the opening light still in place at 90degrees. Mega noisy when turned on so impossible to sleep with when temperatures were 34 degrees plus. Housekeeping was cursory. The room. The Chateau’s moat was sludge green and as no fountains were in operation looked stagnant. The breakfast was ok but they let themselves down in some areas on presentation of food ( cheap supermarket bought biscott in an opened plastic wrapper, compote served in small Pyrex cooking bowls, no bowl to decant yoghurt and compote into a breakfast bowl.
No bar for drinks at all unless eating there.
We chose not to eat there because there was no atmosphere and other guests didn’t speak.
We cannot comment on other meals.
- Uku (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (8/5): Good location close to Vichy. - Very nice property and evening meal was good value. Wait staff at dinner were excellent. High level of cleanliness.
Lift only goes to the 1st floor so if you have mobility issues bear that in mind when requesting a room. We were in an attic room with rafters and sloping ceilings which made access to the bed (on one side) and the toilet difficult to manoeuvre.
- Kirsty (9/5): Superb - Great restaurant. We had a fantastic meal in the evening No amenities nearby
- Mikhail (10/5): Superb - Great location and very good service Nothing
- Anne (8/5): Nice staff, great food. Suits travellers with a car. - Well maintained and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Very nice restaurant so would have been good to have an iron so we didn’t look so rumpled at dinner.
- Leica (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (9/5): Very comfortable & attentive staff - Dinner was delicious Larger bedroom & less air freshener
- Thierry (9/5): Was good, the place is amazing restaurant is good it’s good escape from the cities - The site is amazing
All surrounded by water, the crazy frogs were so surprising and singing loud
- Axel (4/5): We certainly will not return to the Bost Hotel. - There is nothing special to remember, except for the location. The furniture of the public areas was pretty ghastly. There were only four choices on the menus for lunch or dinner. During our stay they never changed.
- Philippa (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (8/5): Good food. - Environment, staff, cleanliness, food etc very good. No defined reception area or bar as such. Entered the hotel into what looked like a dining room with the office beyond and the Manager or whatever came from the office to show us where the restaurant was and to our room. We returned to the area and sat at a large dining table for a drink but it felt strange and uncomfortable like someone’s front room.
- Mike (10/5): Worth the visit - Absolutely fantastic the hosts were the friendliest , Stephen and thomas , we highly recommend your establishment!
The menu was delicious ❤️❤️ N/A
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerard (10/5): Exceptional - We were so impressed by the all experience of staying one night at the Chateau. The weather was very hot, our bedroom air conditioner was not working, so we were upgraded to a better room. Dinner was superb!. Out of our 12 days touring trip in France, the Chateau du Bost was one of the best stopover.
- Jeff (7/5): Would not book again - Location. Just outside the main town of Vichy. Our room was stuck in the eves
of the roof and incredibly small. Not even a wardrobe or cupboard to put your clothes. Very expensive restaurant but no bar...
- Stephen (10/5): Another excellent stay - We had another excellent stay at this small Chateau. The room was comfortable, the staff delightful and our dinner and breakfast the next day of the highest quality. Its location is great for us for an overnight stop on our way from Calais down to Spain
- Elizabeth (10/5): A excellent small hotel with a very good chef - Food was superb. It was quiet with plenty of parking. Bathroom was large and warm Had some difficulty finding it, more signage would assist
- Jillian (8/5): Pleasant overnight stay. - Beautiful setting, friendly helpful staff, lovely breakfast, dog-friendly. Room was very small for 2 people and a dog!
- Robert (7/5): Great restaurant with rooms rather than hotel with restaurant - The evening meal exceeded expectations and hugely enjoyable, well presented and great cuisine. Room for the price paid
- Rachael (10/5): Fantastic stay, really peaceful and friendly and attentive staff. - Beautiful property, very comfortable. Great food. Nothing
- Kathryn (8/5): Restful - Superb
- Alan (4/5): Not an enjoyable stay. - Breakfast was poor. We were given a form on arrival and asked to fill in our breakfast choices from a very limited selection with no cereal, cheese or juice options. Ordered fried eggs in the morning which took almost 30 minutes to arrive. The only good thing about it all was the cheery young lady who brought it to our table. Lack of reception area. Lack of bar area. Lack of lounge area. Garish decor in restaurant. Not a normal enjoyable chateau experience. Car parking area and around the entrance was dressed with fine gravel, which made pulling wheeled suitcases difficult and dirty in parts where the soil was showing through.
- David (8/5): Very good - Restaurant Small room
- Stephen (10/5): Perfect for us - Great location for us and good value for money providing excellent food, wine and breakfast with comfortable room and bed for a good night's sleep. We look forward to staying again.
- James (8/5): Slightly disappointed - The location, the cleanliness Very few staff around. The food had no 'Wow' factor.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Good location for splitting up the drive to the South of France. Great parking
- Denise (9/5): great place to stay especially for the food but make sure you get a room in the main chateau - the staff were very attentive and the terrace outside was beautiful with a lovely view.
our dinner and breakfast was really very good we had a very small room in the corner of the chateau which was a bit dingy
- Jane (7/5): Good - Quirky renovation of building Grounds still being worked on
- Alexander (9/5): Superb - The chateau provides everything that you need, especially very good service. The food is amazing, both during breakfast and dinner. The air-conditioning is a bit noisy, but opening the windows at night is also no option due to the mosquitoes.
- Peter (9/5): A real gem off the beaten track - Beautiful little chateau run by its chef. Tastefully done, amazingly friendly team - and do not forget to book a table at the restaurant. What a treat, we will be back! Nothing - we thoroughly enjoyed the stay!
- Lindsay (8/5): Very good -
- Cablephone (4/5): Disappointing -
- Graham (3/5): Poor -
- Richard (10/5): Wonderful dinner. Perfect breakfast. Clean and well appointed room. - I would happily return.
