Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (10/5): Welcoming staff and unparalleled location - Location, room layout N/a
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): Fantastic location, beautiful room and friendly staff. - Fantastic location and the stand alone bath in the room was excellent. Nice decor and very spacious. Would return. The mattress could have been a little more comfortable and there was nobody to return the keys to at check out had to leave the key in the bedroom door
- Andrew (8/5): Inspite of the fall we really enjoyed the stay, very nice room, helpful staff and the Parking vouch - Breckfast N/A , nice location, very helpful staff Sign with " mind the step " in a couple of places, my wife had a fall on 1 of these.
- Lindsy (10/5): A fantastic hotel brilliantly located. - Really lovely split level room. Great location. Very clean. Nice tea/coffee making facilities.
- Suzanne (8/5): Great place to stay, Thank you. - Great welcome, location, room layout and design, view of Whitby, comfy and warm. Shower in main room with clear glass door. Perhaps obscure glass would have been kinder.
- Helen (6/5): Great location - - Perfect location and lovely views from the top floor windows. Right in the centre of Whitby. En-suite bathroom had no door - indeed the bathroom which looked stunning was not ‘user friendly’ with no shelf for toiletries and no where for your towel after a both. The staff seemed uninterested -
- christopher (10/5): -
- Samuel (10/5): Brilliant and well priced accommodation - The accomodation and cleanliness of the rooms. The inclusive breakfast was average.
- Heather (10/5): Lovely stay in Whitby - Perfect stay, lovely balcony overlooking the Bay! We will definitely return!
- Kelvin (6/5): Pleasant , but a little pricey. - The location was amazing. To sit on the sofa watching the fishing boats in the harbour was good. The lighting was very dim, especially in the bathroom. Also needed extractor fan in the bathroom, barely see anything when you got out shower.
The room was a little expensive, and didn't include breakfast.
- Oliver (8/5): - Good but noisy Noisy
- Frederick (1/5): -
- Kelly (2/5): - The staff were nice. The outlook of the hotel was good. The mattress was terrible to sleep on. Spent most of the night awake. When you spend this kind of money on a 1 night stay you at least expect a good comfy sleep.
- Ursula (8/5): -
- Sharma (10/5): - Beautiful location and stunning views from our room
- Kelly (10/5): -

- stephen (7/5): The room was very clean, large and comfortable, the food was excellent but we didn’t get great sleep - Central, comfortable, food was very good, staff were lovely Bins were outside the window and very noisy morning and night
- Brian (8/5): -
- Ruth (8/5): A wee hick up at check-in, but no biggie. - Great location.
Tastefully decorated room. The bed would benefit from a new mattress.

Location
Views No one there at check in, hotel locked up. Only a local trader suggesting we went to a bar down the road as they owned the hotel. Eventually got in after 30 mins or arrivals. Another couple had similar problems.
No shower / bath gel, 4 bulbs out including entrance lobby, stairs etc, all 3 bedroom windows stuck with paint so no H and S.
There was an over powering sweet sickly smell of air freshener and as a result couldn’t sleep, eventually sourced it at an old sofa that had been sprayed to hide an even worse smell. Awful.
‘Parking’ was Whitby permit and it was a lottery how far you could find a space, for me a 12 minute walk! Drop off was in a loading bay BEHIND the hotel. And no, I couldn’t try and resolve the problems as (like when I arrived) no one was answering the phone. What a set of amateurs.
- Julia (10/5): Great views - We loved the views and the bed was very comfortable. Nice biscuits too.
- michael (10/5): Lovely room , very central, lovely staff, lovely food. - Breakfast was excellent
Room was very nice
We have stayed at The Marine many times and this was up to our expectations, we will definately stay here again on our next visit to Whitby. All was good.

- Matt (10/5): -
- DAVID (5/5): - Great location Dirty carpets…draughty radiator faulty couldn’t turn it down just off
- Charlotte (9/5): Gorgeous room, superb location,Great stay all in all with just a few niggles. - Loved our room!!! It was much bigger than expected. It was right on the front so a beautiful view of the harbour with a balcony to enjoy the view as well. The welcome we got on arrival was lovely. Member of staff super friendly & helpful. Location was perfect & the fact you got a voucher for free parking was an added bonus. Really modern & clean room with really comfortable bed. There was no staff member on site, after 5pm, we were given a mobile number for emergencies but for things such as parking questions, the light not working & the fact we were only given 1 towel, we didn't feel that to be an emergency so didn't contact anyone. Would of been handy to have a staff member around ideally. Also we were not told that there would be no one on site for check out so we were left wondering what to do with the room key as we had to lock the doors etc. We posted the keys through the door but felt uncomfortable not knowing if this was the correct action.

- Danny (10/5): -
- Kathryn (8/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): - Comfy bed Room layout
- Amanda (8/5): -
- Caroline (5/5): - Room decor and location good. Bed comfy, nice bathroom. Pictures should be put on booking.com, so people know what the room they're booking is like. The mezzanine could be an issue for some people. We booked a room with a balcony, but there wasn't one, just a tiny patio. which was very disappointing.
We arrived early., and went to the nearby pub to check in as instructed. We'd requested early check in but had had no reply so didn't know if this would be possible. The girl there didn't seem to know anything about it, and didn't offer to check if the room was ready or to look after our luggage. The bathroom smelled musty, so I suspect the room was actually available when we arrived as It hadn't been recently cleaned/refreshed. The staff knew nothing about where we could park either and didn't offer a permit, so we ended up in a paid car park. We got a permit later on when we were able to check in, but it was too late.
.
The windows didn't work properly and had to be either closed or fully open which meant you couldn't use the sofa as the windows would be on your head. . One of the blinds had no cord so had to be hand rolled whilst standing on the sofa. There was nowhere to hang wet coats , which was inconvenient on a very wet rainy day.
The door out to the patio couldn't close properly from the outside so it had to be left ajar if you went out to see the view, meaning the room got very cold. The heating went off at night and the room was freezing cold in the morning. There was no response to my request from the owner on how to turn it on with no heating controls in the room.. We got up and dressed and went out at 6.45am as we were freezing- the hallway was warmer than the room. This is unforgivable in the north of England in the middle of winter. We found somewhere that served breakfast earlier than the 10am offered by the pub, which might be convenient for the pub but is too late for breakfast especially when checkout is at 10.30.
- Kayleigh (10/5): Clean spacious room - Perfect location
- Ken (10/5): A very romantic venue with fantastic views and superb food in the restaurant - We loved the furniture in the lounge area… the sofas were very stylish and comfortable and the bed was very comfy! There was a bit of an unpleasant smell in the bathroom and the toilet flush was poor.
- Terry (7/5): Very good except room temperature - Breakfast excellent and so was the room Accomodationreally cold as door to balcony does not fit the opening.would not stay in this room again during winter
- Matt (5/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): - Beautiful bedroom with extra sitting area. Lovely view. Would of been nice to have a tv in bedroom.
- Kaye (10/5): Lovely room, with great views. - No breakfast was included. The room was exceptional clean , furnishings were of a classic style all matching colour and style. The bed was very comfortable. Maybe breakfast included, but we're advised we could go to a near cafe for a charge.
- Nicola (9/5): Fabulous - Location was great if you are happy to be in the middle of it. Quiet at night when the pubs close.
The room was fantastic. The bed was soft and low .
Towels didn’t need to be changed as we were only staying for 2 nights.
- Janet (8/5): I would definitely come back, the room and location were fabulous - We stayed in room 1 which had a lovely sitting area and a little balcony which looked out over the river
- Sue (8/5): Excellent location - Location the space in the room the reception girl was lovely and helpful The mattress was thin and not very comfortable as were the pillows the matress needs to be alot deeper or a decent mattress topper . Emails i have sent 3 and got no answer
- Claire (5/5): Expensive - Nice staff There was no breakfast .. had to park quite a distance away from car which the car parking ticket only covered until 9am then had to be moved hence early check out which a cleaner had to be found … was overpriced by £50 . Bathroom had cobwebs above mirror and dust ..
- Malcolm (9/5): Parking could be a problem for some - Location was great Net curtains would give more privacy
- Craig (7/5): Excellent location, if the issues I had were corrected probably the best hotel in it’s location. - I have stayed at the hotel a long time ago and love the location, and character of the hotel, and that its adult only. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel side entrance staircase is very worn and unwelcoming, the banister is wobbly and lose. There was a few issues with my room, room 4, these were pointed out to a member of staff on the way out, who was very concerned and made a note of these to report them. Which I thought was very good of them. The issues were. 1. No working blind in the bathroom. 2. Some kind of stains on the bathroom furniture. 3. Broken light in staircase. 4. All windows in the room would not open due to being paint shut.
- Ronald (8/5): - The location was excellent . The lighting or rather the lack it could be a safety factor particularly with the low stair arrangement to the mezzanine bedroom.
- Caroline (8/5): -
- Joshua (10/5): Superb - Everything Maybe the noise
- Gemma (3/5): It could be great! But for now it's like Fawlty Towers - The location is perfect! The room looked nice and had a downstairs and upstairs. On arrival we were told we didn't have the room I thought we booked (from the photos) and that everyone thinks the same. Obviously the photos don't match up with the rooms on booking. There was no parking permit available on check in either. We were asked if we wanted to change rooms before to another option (not the one we thought we were having) before we saw it, due to it being 'freezing cold in there but the radiators were on'. We couldn't see it being much different to the other rooms and when we were shown the room it was boiling hot, therefore we said we were fine. The room got hotter and hotter and we had no control of heating but at least it wasn't cold. The following day however it was freezing and the heating hadn't been put on at all.
We stayed for two nights (Sunday and Monday) there was no breakfast or restaurant open but we had seen that these were closed in advance. We didn't see another person or staff member in the hotel after check in.
The room was extremely dark with one ceiling light on the second level and some lamps. I couldn't see in the morning to get ready. The toilet didn't flush properly and the seat was broken.
The hotel and room could be absolutely lovely but it just seemed like fawlty towers.
On checking out, we couldn't find anyone and didn't know where to leave the key. We nipped a few doors down to the Moon and six pence (their sister bar). This was to check out and because we had seen this was open on a Tuesday and you could book online. When we got there, we weren't greeted by the two women behind the bar. Eventually one came to a till and say what would you like. We confirmed we wanted to check out of The Marine hotel and she took the key. There was no, did you have a nice stay or any care in the slightest. After looking at the menu, we were told we couldn't order food until lunch time. I wasn't too upset as I didn't want to stay somewhere with rude staff.

- Bobbyfunface (9/5): Perfect location, great views. we just loved it. - Perfect location, great value No much it was fantastic , parking is tricky but thats whitby
- Steve (9/5): Really was excellent - We got upgraded to a suite with a living room and a Balcony. Room was very nice. It was New years eve and we watched the fireworks from the balcony. We also ate in the restaurant early evening which was also great. All good
- Michelle (8/5): All in all it was a good experience - Location of hotel and quirkiness of our room Radiator in balcony room not working on an extremely cold and wintry day/night.
No milk to make a cuppa.
- Darina (10/5): Stunning location but overpriced . - The location and room were stunning! The room was pretty cold, In fact in the morning did not feel comfortable leaving the bed as room temperature as so low.
One of the radiators was disconnected.
No heating overnight.I understand Christmas time was cold but paying £165 a night and staying in cold room is just not good enough.
We checked out around 10 am and heating only just came on. What is the point?
When mentioning to staff on our way out, the girl just laughed and said she wasn’t sure which room she set the heating on to.
- Keeley (10/5): Definitely stay there again - Location excellent, room was fantastic
Definitely stay there again, staff very friendly and very helpful There was nothink about our short stay to complain about,
- Alex (9/5): -
- Mark (8/5): Fantastic location, especially for couples. - Really beautiful location with lovely views. We visited during winter and it was quiet and peaceful here. Only minor little things - would be great to have some hooks for towels near the shower, tv was not really worth having in the room, clearly signed location for dropping off keys at checkout would be good too.
- Jason (10/5): Short break - Room was huge , location brilliant, lovely place Nothing
- edward (10/5): - Great location
- Stephen (10/5): Stunning apartment - The apartment was totally stunning. The view was amazing. My partner actually said she could actually live in it .the location was beautiful we will definitely stay there again. Nothing to not like
- Doug (9/5): -
- Gabriella (10/5): -
- stephanie (8/5): Amazing location and views from balcony - Great location. Unique. Great breakfast (not included) nice facilities, gorgeous balcony with amazing views. Staff friendly. Unfortunately previous guests had ripped the shower off the wall, hotel was very accommodating, said we could cancel, rearrange or still stay for 50% refund. As it was a 1 night stay we decided to go ahead as was for an occasion and be hard work rearranging child and dog care again, didn’t really spoil our stay. Was still a lovely experience but the only fault I can think of.
- Allison (10/5): Perfect, will not stay anywhere else in Whitby from now on. - Location is amazing, no other hotel will do in future. Just perfect 😍 Location, room, facilities, staff
- John (8/5): - location & room Heating didn't start until after 8.00 very cold first thing
- Nic (7/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Lovely hotel with great food and location - Central location, great view from the rooms with balconies. Lovely food. Fortunately we were able to change rooms from 2 to room 1. Room 2 whilst lovely has upstairs for the bedroom but the bathroom is on the other floor with a sitting room. Meaning you have to up n downstairs in the middle of the night if you use toilet. I’m not great with stairs so wish I would have know this when booking. Staff were lovely though and very accommodating.
- Chris (10/5): -
- Janette (10/5): Perfect stay, perfect location in the perfect property and will definitely book again. - Location was perfect, right by the harbour. The room (room 2) was outstanding with a lounge area with sofas and a TV and a door leading out to a small balcony that also looked out over the harbour. There was a mezzanine with a large double bed and area for storing clothes. It was easy to park over the road from the property to unload any luggage before moving the car to the appropriate parking zone. We found one under a 5 minute walk away and the hotel provided us with a parking permit when we arrived. I thought the property was outstanding however the only thing I would have added would be hooks in the hallway to store coats.
- Singleton (10/5): A lovely stay , will book again soon . - A perfect location , lovely spacious building . Lovely and clean too .
- Mark (8/5): -
- Julie (6/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Ivanna (8/5): A great location and lovely room. - Great location, comfy bed and lovely decorated. Window wouldn’t shut above bed so it was very noisey, pointed it out to staff the next morning who didn’t appear bothered.
- LEIGH (7/5): -
- Carla (10/5): Fab Hotel!! - A beautiful hotel, spotlessly clean, fantastic location with really friendly staff. We definitely will be returning! Thank you. Super comfy bed and great view. Would probably have preferred room one with no mezzanine stairs, kept the light on at night in the hall downstairs so we didn't fall down by mistake!! But the stairs have grippers on which is great!
- Alex (9/5): A wonderful stay in very comfortable surroundings. The position was excellent, the room was beautiful, the staff were fr - Its location and the high standards of rooms and services.
- Asta (10/5): Bit pricey but very pleasant stay - Very good location, clean spacious room. Bit loud in evening and early morning but that is to be expected from the busy location. Parking can be tricky if it is busy time - you just have to find a spot further down the road up the hill on the street, the hotel provides a parking pass.
- Simona (10/5): - A beautiful room and the perfect location with a marvellous view - we'll come back!
- michelle tarbun (8/5): - Location Lovely bath but a shower would have been nice too
- Paula (9/5): Comfortable apartment in central location with great views. - The location was very central with amazing views. There was lots of space and comfortable sitting area with 2 large couches. The bed was very comfortable. Nothing
- Estela (10/5): - The views were amazing and the managers very accommodating. We really recommend it!
- Joyce (8/5): -
- Sue (10/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): - Amazing balcony overlooking the harbour
- Chris (10/5): Would happily return again. - The room was very spacious & comfortable with lovely views of Whitby from the windows. Parking nearby was a bit difficult as was very busy that weekend even with the parking permit issued by the hotel.
- Kath Anderton (9/5): We had a lovely stay in the centrally positioned hotel. Although don't expect quiet as lots of bars! - What a lovely room. Very clean and excellent complimentary items
We used the bar but did not eat there so cannot give a restaurant review. The only negatives were: (Room 3) The lighting is very dim in both the bedroom and bathroom, making it not ideal for applying makeup. Adding some spot lights around both or at least one of the mirrors could resolve this. The room door/lock did not fit flush which resulted in lots of rattling when the window was open. In both windows, the blind cords were broken which meant you had to climb onto the window ledge to adjust them up/down (this could be a bit of a safety issue). The extractor fan in the bathroom was exceptionally loud and ran on for a very long time. All things that could easily be put right and make this a 10 Star Accommodation.
- Alison (10/5): Gorgeous hotel, central location, beautiful room. - Stunning hotel in a very central location. We had the room with the balcony and the view overlooking the harbour and abbey were beautiful.
Very tastefully decorated with a big comfy French bed and a sitting area to enjoy complementary tea, coffee and biscuits. The only improvement I would suggest in the room is that it could benefit from having a bright light over the mirror. It was difficult to put makeup on with the dull lighting in the room.
- Kate (10/5): Beautiful property exceptional views - Absolutely everything Nothing
