Guest Reviews
- Yvonne (9/5): Loved it - View is stunning and location really accessible

Wer hier Speed-Internet braucht sollte hier selbst vorsorgen.

Není formou bufetu a přišla např dost malá. Ba jeden pokoj (2 osoby) jsme dostaly jednu omeletu napůl, každá 1 půlku toastu, jednu malou porci banánových lívanců napůl a malinkou granolu s jogurtem a ovocem. Bylo vy lepší tedy jednu porci jídla nepůlit, ale dát každému člověku jednu celou porci, jinak úžasný pobyt:)

La Situation
- Madlen (9/5): - Very special property, great hidden jungle feeling

- Romana P (10/5): Truly Special Place - Gunung An Retreat is a truly special place. The atmosphere is calm, zen, and incredibly relaxing — the perfect sanctuary while still being conveniently close to the city center. The rooms are beautiful, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable. Lots of beautiful small touches. During my 2-week stay, I also had to work, and the views from the room created such inspiring atmosphere. What made my stay even more memorable was the wonderful staff, who were always friendly, welcoming, and helpful. And of course, the adorable dog Berry who adds so much character and warmth to the retreat! I had absolutely fantastic stay and would happily return.

- Brendow (10/5): Calmo e tranquilo - Muito confortável, o pessoal super cuidadoso e educado. Uns amores.
- Skye (10/5): - I had the BEST stay at Gunung An. The property is so beautiful and tranquil, right in the forest. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, good aircon, good food, and super easy to get into the centre of Ubud. Everyone there was so kind, and went above and beyond. Truly felt like home away from home!
- RIO (10/5): -
- Anastasia (10/5): - Очень красиво

- Nadia (10/5): Everything was absolutely perfect! The staff were incredibly helpful and kind, making us feel truly cared for and at hom - Everything was absolutely perfect! The staff were incredibly helpful and kind, making us feel truly cared for and at home. The location is very convenient — it’s easy to get to the center of Ubud. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and the whole place has such a peaceful, healing atmosphere — perfect for resetting your mind and soul! We also loved the little touches, like the traditional incense that’s so popular in Bali. Communication with the host was excellent and very fast. For me, it’s definitely a 10/10 experience. I’d be more than happy to come back!
- Christopher (9/5): Lovely setting nestled away from the road, surrounded by nature. - Location and style Nothing
- Paige (8/5): - perfect location not to far from the city centre. very secluded and has their own waterfall on the property! very quiet at all times of the day perfect for relaxing !

- Olha (9/5): Superb - I really liked the staff. They are very nice and friendly people. There were also delicious breakfasts and a good location. High humidity in the room, you need to improve the smell in the room. And put a new hairdryer, because it was very weak.
- Yvette (8/5): Very good -
- Andrea (8/5): Nice design, good location, but extremely humid - Great design, with a combination of modern urban style and traditional Javanese.
Breakfast is good and more Cafe style than the same same you can encounter around.
Nice swimming pool and firecamp by night.
The location is nice, 5 minutes from Blanco.
The place is very clean. 1. Humidity inside the room is extreme. Until even I cannot charge my phone because it find there is “liquid” inside the charging port. They provide a small dehumidifier but useless.
2. Bed mattresses are split and very hard in the middle, not comfy for couples.
3. The parking is sharing with the neighbors house and it has dozens of free chickens, who makes it dirty on the floor and even on top of the motorbikes. Smelly and not hygienic
4. Staff is very friendly but sometimes too oppressive.
5. They give as gadget a keychain “I love Jogja”. I love Jogja too, but we are in Bali…
- Rose (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was amazing! The staff was so kind, they gave us a welcoming tea and fruit plate and also a cute goodbye gift! The room was gorgeous and the breakfast delicious!
- Ekaterina (9/5): Superb - A very unusual stay:)
The rooms are very different from all the others we saw during the trip.
You get huge glass windows facing a jungle and there is a waterfall on the territory of the hotel which you can hear day and night - it’s kind of calming..)
The welcoming part was nice - they bless you:)
The sleep was deep! It was a nice stay overall It’s a retreat so if you just need 2-3 days maybe you can choose something even closer to downtown.
You have to walk from the road to the hotel 3 min down the alley - there is no car access
Breakfast was not so good - I mean we did not expect anything fancy but there was like no choices at all ( it’s fine for us - we had breakfast outside)
- Ester (10/5): Pretty amazing and idyllic - I love the surrounding environment, it’s breathtaking and idyllic. I’ve tried the massage “ibu knows better/best” and it was quiet nice and relaxing. Especially, if you are experiencing muscle pain from days of yoga classes. The breakfast varied from day to day (from my own experience it consists of one main dish (indonesian dish), fried eggs, fruits with granola and yoghurt, and various type of indonesian traditional snack. It’s a good place to stay for unwinding from usual stressful daily life. Far from convenient store, so better pack up nicely for your own daily stuff. If you bring your own car you have to park your car on the side of the road.
- Karla (8/5): Was a special stay, and will be back 🤍 - The space and staff are wonderful 🙏🏽🤍 I feel some attention to detail is needed, for what you are paying
- Alena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelangelo (8/5): Very good - Large room with large bed, nice view on the garden. Staff was very welcoming and the breakfast was very good. Garden is great relaxing! recommended for architecture lovers :) The structure need maintenance in the common areas, somewhere seems quite abandoned to its destiny.
The room is completely built in CONCRETE (furnitures also are in concrete), with some mould on the walls and ceiling. no air circulation in the room, and bed a bit hard. Comfort is not at 100%, but still good
- Ugur (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (5/5): Disappointed it didn’t turn out to be what we were hoping for. - I liked the design and the lower rooms layout - I do really like to leave a positive comments but i really struggle with this particular property, my expectations were high form the visuals on there listing, The entrance is an alley so you need to be prepared to carry your luggage 150 - 200m to your room, you cannot get a vehicle down, but staff are on hand and happy to help out.
During our stay we had a lot of rain this caused problems with this property because the rooms had a very unpleasant smell due to the moisture, you had to run the AC 24/7 to get rid of the smell - the positioning of the outdoor lighting glares straight into your bedroom windows at night which caused problems sleeping, they eventually turned them off for us.
The frogs and rooster noises were relentless all night I feel exhausted from lack of sleep the pool, the pool needed a clean but hard to use anyway as all the decking is getting replaced.
I am sure there is a different experience to be had when the weather is dryer.
- Alba (10/5): Excellent - The room was absolutely fantastic. Peaceful and clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast included.
- Pertsh (9/5): Superb -
- Patricia (10/5): One of my favorite hotels in Bali — I’d be happy to return one day. - I loved the room — it was on the upper floor with a great view of palm trees and rice fields. Spacious and comfortable. The hotel and grounds are well-maintained and charming. Great location — a bit outside the center, but surrounded by rice fields and nature. With a scooter, you’re in the center in 10–15 minutes. Breakfast is simple but tasty, and the staff is very friendly and relaxed.
Just a note: the common areas like the restaurant and pool are also used by the staff during their breaks, which gives the place a relaxed, homey vibe. For a longer stay, a wider breakfast selection would be nice. I had a room with a kitchen — the equipment was a bit worn, and a deep clean would have been appreciated (though I didn’t request one). Still, the room was clean and very comfortable throughout my stay. There was really nothing to officially complain about, and I’d happily return — everything mentioned is simply meant as friendly feedback.
- Tina (8/5): Exceptional value for money! Away from the crazy tourist area. - Gunung An has everything you need for a great stay. The included breakfast was always delicious. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I will be back in July. Prefer a door in the toilet room, but didn’t bother me because I stayed on my own.
- Hayk (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenny (8/5): Very good - Beautiful hotel with a great design, but beware!
The hotel is stylish and beautifully designed, with a great atmosphere. However, I had an unfortunate experience—after checking out, I realized I had left my phone charging cables in the room. When I contacted the hotel, they simply said that nothing was found. It’s disappointing that lost items are not properly handled. So, if you stay here, double-check your belongings before leaving!
- Novisabella (10/5): Peaceful and welcoming. Offer a refreshing breakfast and vegan lunch selection. -
- Mitenberga (9/5): Superb -
- Ciprian (7/5): Good -
- Kailan (8/5): Enjoyable stay, overpriced but very comfortable, CLEAN; pleasant and friendly hosts - You should stay at Gunang An if you are looking to relax for a few days, and have good mobility with a motorbike etc (something you can also rent there). The reviews on Google and Booking saying it is mouldy bla bla bla are NOT true, its pretty damn comfortable, the hosts are very friendly and helpful. I do have some criticisms, but the desk in the top floor room was VERY solid to see the jungle area and rice fields while working in an Air Con enabled room. Its nice to be an observer to nature while not being over run by it. The retreat is more of a hidden hotel in progress than a super relaxing retreat in the typical sense, but we have no complaints and we enjoyed the stay & hospitality! Wifi was 10/10.
Oh, and the JUNGLE AROUND GUNANG AN IS VERY HEAVY IN SPIRITUAL ENERGY - LIKE MACHU PICHU OR SOMEWHERE SIMILAR. Lots of temples nearby and on the property, and if you are open to that kind of energetic power, or have had trauma of medicinal experiences making you physiologically prone to feeling spiritual energy, this place is very special, specifically at night. Its more of a spiritual retreat than a place to go for relaxation persé. Its quite inaccessible and that is somewhat off-putting, the common areas are not inviting to hang around in during the day, the breakfast is very basic (despite it being delicious), and the entire property is still in construction so while it was very pleasant and NOT like recent negative reviews, it is also something I would keep in mind - the noise of construction that didn't bother us but might bother some. The main negatives (that is very reasonable given the location and type of accommodation):
- Bugs in the room - geckos, ants, mosquitos a tiny bit, spiders, etc. This is minor, and overall the room was very well protected from the elements and the Air Con worked amazingly (The rooms are so big it usually isn't an issue but some travellers are super preppy, so keep that in mind if you are)
- The price; it is definitely not worth the price we paid. It is worth 50-60% of what we paid maximum. I LOVED the stay and my wife did too, but if we knew how it was for the price, I would not have stayed here. Despite it being very positive our stay, that is why I couldn't give it s 10 out of 10...
- Jennifer (8/5): Cute little gem - Very calm and relaxing energy. cute pool to chill at. There was no mosquito net covering the bed, and Ubud is known for its high humidity, which attracts plenty of mosquitoes. If you're prone to mosquito bites, keep this in mind and take precautions.
- Jennifer (8/5): Very good - Very calm and relaxing energy. Cute pool to chill at. There was no mosquito net covering the bed, and Ubud is known for its high humidity, which attracts plenty of mosquitoes. If you're prone to mosquito bites, keep this in mind and take precautions.
- Anje (8/5): Very good -
- Roisin (9/5): Superb - The staff were wonderful and helpful. The room was cleaned daily. Room was spacious, beautiful with nice views of the rice fields. The area was tranquil. Really enjoyed my time here.
- Anna (7/5): Good -

- Grimpard (9/5): Superb - My room, very comfortable and huge.

- Ana (8/5): I would definitely book here again! - The location was so quiet and peaceful, immersed in nature. The breakfast was very simple, healthy and tasty. The staff were very friendly and kind. The shower’s floor is made from wood, it was stained. Could be renovated.
- Horzum (10/5): LOVELY - It is a very quiet place. You will be in the middle of nature. Don't mind the animal sounds. Chat with the staff, you will love them. Kadek.. is our dear friend, you should get to know him. They are very helpful in every way. We are currently staying at a different hotel, but we miss it so much 💌
- Rayhana (7/5): Good -
- Emily (4/5): I wish it was as good as it looked.... - This place is in a very beautiful quiet picturesque setting! The sound of the stream was so lovely! A bit of a walk down to so if you're not that able it'd be an issue. The room was HUGE and spacious! They said they offered yoga classes, but they don't, I went to do my own in the yoga space but it was dirty. They say they have a spa but no staff on site so you need to book hours in advance. The restaurant was so "average" and no food outside of breakfast. Some staff didn't speak great English so they couldn't answer my questions. They were kind! The pool was dirty so I didn't try swimming in it! The location isn't close to really anything so I recommend hiring a moto.
- Tim (7/5): Good - The staff was very friendly. The room was really beautiful. We had quite a hard time sleeping every single night. There are chickens kept quite close and you can hear them throughout the whole day & night. Not a good place for light sleepers :S
- Saskia (8/5): Very good -
- Sara (10/5): Simply magical! - This place is very unique in its decoration and design; you instantly feel at home.
From the moment you arrive, you're enveloped by the sound of birds and the view of the rice fields. All the rooms offer a view of the rice fields, and a special bonus for the corner rooms in the hallway that overlook a small waterfall (simply magical for falling asleep).
The staff is exceptionally kind, always smiling and attentive to your needs.
I absolutely love this place and will return without hesitation.
Thank you once again to the entire team who goes above and beyond for their clients. The only minor downside is that the hotel is slightly located outside the center of Ubud (but I knew this already when making the reservation, and it didn’t bother me). However, you can easily reach the center in 8-10 minutes by motorbike.
P.S.: I was even able to have a Grab delivered in the evening when I got a bit hungry! :)"
- Angela (1/5): Bad - Horrible horrible horrible horriblr
- Nayer (3/5): Good value for money if you just want a place to sleep - The room was nice
Exactly like the picture
Staff are very nice and friendly A lot of geckos
Extremely basic breakfast with no variety
Room, plates, cups, tables aren’t always clean
- Antonija (7/5): Good - The location was perfect. Hidden in the cozy jungle, 10min away from Ubud with a scooter. Staff is cute and very welcoming. The accommodation has so much potential. It's beautiful but, unfortunately, lacks a bit of maintenance.
The room was way too humid, so we had to change the towels every day, even if we were using the AC with humidity control mode all day and had a small dehumidifier in the room.
Also, the toilet flush was not working well.
The staff tried to help as much as they could, but the whole place is worn out.
- Zeynep (8/5): Very good -
- Helga (8/5): Wonderful stay! Beautiful room and authentic Balinese experience! - The hotel itself and surrounding is gorgeous. The room decorating is minimalist with local touches. Beautiful! Comfortable bed and room. My room had a window to a small waterfall! Great breakfast! Very chill vibe and the staff is very attentive and kind.
Several restaurants nearby. Great for solo travels or if you go as a couple or a friend. If you want to visit Ubud center then is a bit far away. Bathroom cleaning could be more detailed. Some areas of the hotel could use some more maintenance.
- Esragül (8/5): nice - He had every opportunity. It had scooters and a spa. the employees were polite and friendly The guests staying here were making very loud noises. They were bouncing a ball on our upper floor and we couldn't reach them because the employees were asleep and they didn't answer their phones.
- Tina (8/5): Loved being there! - Inexpensive but great facilities No door on bathroom
- Rokas (9/5): Superb -
- Inga (8/5): Very good - The property was modern looking, the room was big. The breakfast was tasty and staff were lovely. For us the place was ok situated from places we wanted to visit. It was harder to find from the main street, probably would need more visible sing and directions. Also it was kind of dark in the room, not enough lights and the room was very humid at the begging of the trip.
- Sara (2/5): Catfish - We chose this place for a tranquil, peaceful getaway, enticed by its natural surroundings and nearby small waterfall. Unfortunately, the reality was very disappointing.
The entire property desperately needs renovation, a thorough cleaning and disinfecting, and more attentive care. We were eager to enjoy the outdoors amidst nature, but the pool was filthy, the sun beds had dirty cushions and mattress on them, and cobwebs were everywhere.
The property overall is very outdated, dirty and unkept. The spa and sauna areas were equally dirty and outdated.
While our bedroom was spacious, and the bedding was clean, the positives ended there. The wooden floors in the shower have literal holes, the panels are dirty, and there was hair on the toilet. The shower curtains haven’t been cleaned nor changed since they first opened. The towels are equally old and overused.
I appreciate the retreat is in the midst of nature, but that’s no excuse for the appalling lack of cleanliness.
Regrettably, the property does not resemble the pictures advertised. It might have been like that when it first opened, but now it falls far short of expectations. It's such a disappointment, as it has the potential to be so much more with proper upkeep and care.
- Brandi (10/5): The room was spectacular very tranquil and peaceful. The staff was always friendly and willing to he - Friendly service with a smile. An authentic beautiful experience. It was all pretty great. If you don’t like roosters, don’t go there cause I’ll hear it in the neighbourhood but if you enjoy the sounds of nature, it’s a perfect retreat.
- James (10/5): Everyone was so friendly, a lovely place to stay -
- Taisia (9/5): Superb - very nice place. Quite and cozy, like you in a jungle, but at the same time not far from center. People working there are really nice, help with everything, and I appreciate that they care about grumpy dog - thats a human way to run a place :)
The room very spacious, also a nice nature behind the windows. Cleaning everyday. Fresh drinking water. Delicious breakfast. Good wi fi, was okay to work remotely most of the days. And I asked for an additional table and chair, there was no problem with that. Maybe add a sign for the door handle - Do Not Disturb, if for some reason you dont want to be bothered by cleaning.
Not much soundproofing, so bring an earplug if you are anxious sleeper. But these are minor things, overall a great hotel
- Elsie (9/5): A great place to stay in ubud - Spacious room, friendly staff and chilling vibe It takes a short walk from the road to the actually entrance
- Franciska (10/5): Clean, comfortable, minimalist room but large and luxurious. - The rooms were large, such a great size, with amazing views. It is a little out of the way form Ubud, but still super convenient via Gojek or motor bike, as there are bikes for hire at the Villa.
- Pimwipa (8/5): Very good - Good facilities and good staff
- Haitem (10/5): Amazing! - Calm, you can hear the waterfall while in the room. So relaxing.
- Samanta (9/5): Superb - The bedroom is huge and very comfortable and clean. The outside area is full of nature with a small waterfall. Hot shower. The location is 10 minutes by bike from the center, ok if you have a scooter. The swimming pool was not clean so we never used it. The food is not the best but was ok.
- Emer (6/5): Quirky room but that’s where it ends - The rooms are the highlight of this place. Exposed Concrete style. Massive rooms with a cool view out into the jungle. Breakfast was also good 👍 The whole place just needs more care and attention. The pool looked absolutely disgusting and I would not have swam in it. The whole area just is not clean or looked after, which is a shame because the setting is really cool in the jungle. The location isn’t great either. We chose this place as wanted to stay one more night in Ubud but the place we were staying had no availability. Wouldn’t bother staying here again if in Ubud. The bathroom in the room was not clean which just outside me off straight away. I wouldn’t recommend this place
(9/5): Superb -
- Teodora (9/5): Superb - Location, clean, and staff was amazing.
Really good breakfast (amazing granola!)
Everything was wonderful. They were considerate about our late checkout, and we could leave or stuff at the reception. No separate bathroom
