Guest Reviews
- Ann (8/5): Oakwood - Excellent food. Great staff. Over noisy bar.
- Muhammad (9/5): -
- Julie (8/5): The hotel and staff are lovely. There are a few issues to resolve to improve the facilities. - Staff were all very helpful.
Room was basic but was comfortable and clean.
I had dinner and breakfast which were both very good. I thought the price of my stay was very reasonable. The unexpected £5 parking fee (only informed on confirmation of booking).
The view of the pile of rubbish directly outside my window.
The doors slammed loudly to the rooms waking me up several times throughout the night
- Kathryn (7/5): -
- Guest (8/5): -
- Johanna (10/5): - Lovely staff No issues
- Mihai (10/5): - Totul
- Bart (8/5): -
- Victoria (6/5): Disappointed - Location The overall finish of the room - carpet not fitted well at all. Comfort of the bed was poor. There was a damp smell. Room was on the ground floor, net curtain, privacy was poor. Lots of building material rubble and rubbish directly outside of the room, and only this room! Looking outwards several rubbish skips over flowing. I would not recommend this hotel.
- Darren (7/5): - Nice and clean. Good staff, lovley breakfast When i booked it, it was free parking. When we got there, got told there was a fee. Wasn't alot but it was one of the reasons we booked this hotel as it had free parking for guest. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom are in the wrong place and inthe way (room 18)
- Keyser (4/5): It was a cheap hotel, so not outrageous about the standards but it could have been nicer - Staff were friendly and helpful and it was nice Weird smell in the place and only got worse when you flushed toilet or ran shower, a smell like raw meat and waste
- Scott (10/5): Nice modern hotel - Lovely Hotel very clean and the staff very friendly. Having to pay for parking ontop of the room price. Woukd of been better if guests had free parking.
- Carl (8/5): Lovely hotel great staff, - Nice location staff were all very friendly No usb charging points in rooms, no plugs near beds so had to charge phone/alarm at far side of room,
Car parking wasn’t included with room rate,
- julie (6/5): - Clean and quiet My bed was small and uncomfortable. Drinks very expensive
- Andy (9/5): - The whole experience really nice hotel and surroundings and staff were polite and professional. N/a
- Hill (7/5): -
- Kelvin (10/5): Excellent hotel service by the staff made it a weekend to remember. - I booked breakfast as a extra and was well worth it. Really good breakfast. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Entertainment some evening's. Excellent bus service from the hotel. Only one comment to make, there was no well being bins in the toilets.
- Del (6/5): Fair and looks like they are in the process of renovations! - The websites are misleading, they all say free parking yet when you arrive you get hit with additional parking fees, I would have chosen another hotel if I had known! I I got asked to scan a QR CODE to pay. I refused and as if by magic a new QR code was produced for the free parking! They should not be allowed to try it on like that!
- tracey (9/5): - Easy to find parking good clean and comfortable big room.. N/A
- Rachel (5/5): Basic. - The location was convenient for where I needed to be. - When I arrived for check in the band was playing extremely loudly right next to the check in desk. I literally had to shout to be heard - very odd.
- The TV in my room had sound but no picture.
- The shower head in my bathroom was fixed so high up I had to hold it to use it.
- There was a light flashing all night in my room from some sort of smoke detector.
- Rajendra (4/5): Very Disappointed - Friendly Staff Breakfast wasn’t the greatest and the coffee machine was broken, which made it even worse,
- Jade (10/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): - Well kept and clean, beds really comfortable, all needs covered. Friendly and obliging staff. Wonderful food. Would definitely go back. Not much choice on evening menu.
- Lindsay (8/5): -
- Kayleigh (9/5): -
- paul (7/5): Reasonable priced stay for a nights stopover, - Big car park , pleasant staff , The grounds need to be cleared , food at restaurant was ok but needs not ti be over complicated and better presented , had the ploughman’s , not like a usual ploughman and the hot scotch egg was awful / strong off smell , hot bread had burnt markings that also smelt strange , - usually a simple meal in these parts , dessert wasn’t much better , needs basic improvements,
- Charlie (8/5): -
- Kayleigh (9/5): -
- Sarah (1/5): -
- Christopher (8/5): - The staff were very very good and helpful The misleading entry in booking.com which did not state there was an additional charge for parking. It wasn't the addition of the parking charge but the inference that parking was included in the hotel rate which lead to an inaccurate comparison of costs.
- amanda (8/5): - Clean, friendly staff, outdoor courtyard is nice. Nice to have a pool table. Was great for the cost.
- Katiuscia (5/5): Orribile management - The breakfast food was amazing and the staff was exceptional, they make feel us like home. the night staff was horrible and the management ridiculous. I booked 2 rooms where especially i requests on the booking and after i called the hotel to make sure the rooms where on the ground floor and on the same level due my mum illness, and guess what we got? 2 rooms in different floor where one was on the 1 floor... with a lots of stairs to do where she can't walk!!
- ANGELA (7/5): Good stay for price. - Bar staff were brilliant and friendly. On booking.com it said £5 parking was included but it wasn’t we had to pay again, l think Booking.com need to review their wording.
Bed was very small, our feet hung off the end and I’m only 5ft 2”.
There was also a funny smell in my son’s room.
- Jessica (9/5): -
- Health COMET (8/5): - Friendly staff.
Comfortable, clean room and good value for money. Pay for parking.
- Iulian (10/5): - Super Super
- Brett (7/5): - The staff, the manageress sorted out a difficulty with parking and all the staff were pleasant. The bar/restaurant was very expensive and loud with screaming children, the tv was very limited, only around 8 channels.
- Christopher (8/5): -
- marilyn (10/5): - A war welcome when we arrived .hotel was clean and well maintained..
- Emma (10/5): -
- Lucy (6/5): Disappointed overall - The property was local to our end destination, only a few minutes drive. When we arrived we were charged £5 as paying guests to park our vehicle in the carpark, beds in the family room extremely small. Staff not very helpful upon check in and refused to accommodate an issue that was due to no fault of our own. We had children with us who were well behaved just enjoying their time together, staff kept approaching the children to tell them off rather than speaking to us parents directly. Poor customer service in general. Breakfast was tasty but staff did not listen to what we had ordered (twice) and brought incorrect food. One of the rooms had flat pack boxes all over the floor along with drill bits and power tools left on the floor when there were children and animals around, this is a health and safety risk.
- Christine (3/5): - The place was clean and a good location. Bed was uncomfortable and the shower freaked like it was going to break.
The breakfast was more than booking advertised and the cooked breakfast was.cold. some items had run out and had to ask to be replaced.
- Darren (10/5): Great value for me - Great value for money Shower was hit and miss
- Darren (10/5): Would recommend it great stay - Excellent place to stay great staff very good value for money Shower was hit and miss
- Giles (8/5): -
- Barnes (10/5): - Peace and quiet. All good.
- andrew (9/5): -
- Black (8/5): Getting pricey - Good location. Quiet and friendly staff. Cold no heating. Prices have gone up plus a new addition of parking charge.
- daniel (8/5): -
- Rob (6/5): Suitable for what we needed & was available at short notice. - Location was good. We had a room next to the milk station and could hear people using it, a bit noisy at times. The shower did not work very well very low water pressure, eventually I gave up. The bed was a bit smaller than expected & the pillows were very hard, not very comfortable to sleep on.
- Davidova (8/5): Positive, very kind and helpful staff, positive attitude, and clean hotel with very nice atmosphere - The hotel was in a very nice location, the staff were EXTREMELY kind and helpful and made us feel very welcome, the rooms and the bathrooms were clean (the bathroom was extremely nice), the beds were clean and comfortable, there were good facilities in the room, breakfast was very good, and the breakfast space - very pleasant and relaxing. The whole building had a lovely atmosphere and looked like it was being renovated with taste, it had a good car park and the surroundings were beautiful. There was a VERY noisy group of young men staying in the hotel lounge and then outside on the hotel ground who did not allow us to sleep until 1 AM and who the staff were unable to ask to leave, for which they appologised.
- Ashleigh (6/5): 8/10 - Easy to get to.
Staff were lovely. Beds were uncomfortable, pillows were hard and the smell of smoke in the room along with a smell that was in the bathroom.
- Gintare (7/5): Good stay - We stayed at Oakwood for one night, the room was just fine. Good for that price. We tried burgers amd it wad absolutely delicious Smell from bathroom

- Guest (5/5): -
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Damien (10/5): Great location between two towns - We liked the location, the room and the beer garden the pub food was excellent and overall relaxing atmosphere, friendly helpful staff who welcomed us like locals. Q Having to pay for car parking
- Andy (10/5): A good choice for a comfortable stay, setting it apart from the bigger chain hotels. - Newly refurbished. Totally transformed to what was showing on the website. All staff very welcoming and courteous. Restaurant set out in individual secluded table areas. The A38 was busy but the surroundings and the grounds made it less of an issue.
- MICHAEL (6/5): Fine for the price. Ends there. - The price. £43 Don't like the reception /bar/order food all in same place.
Didnt like paying for parking. Didn't pay on previous stay. Wasn't told I had to pay on arrival so missed first night so expecting a £100 ticket. Food mediocre, little choice, burnt burger bun. How tasty. Can hear next door conversations, and everything else. Floor boards creak like crazy. Curtains are as thick as toilet paper. Spotlight outside window. Lack of TV channels. Used my Netflix.
- Cross (10/5): Very Comfortable and Facilities were good - did not have Breakfast but on our next stay we will definitely be trying out the Breakfast.
Location is great None for the moment
- Lauren (10/5): -
- Glyn (3/5): Not happy as not told there where on ground floor rooms - Room clean and comfortable bed Having asked and being told l could have a ground floor room l was allocated a second floor room! Due to my mobility issues they changed to a ground floor room - which was up five flights of stairs!
I even told a manager who said he would try to sort it out but didn’t hear back from him…
- Tyrone (9/5): Decent business night sleep - Lovely place Other then not getting my room
Cleaned inbetween the 2 night stay it was brilliant value for money
- Peyman (10/5): -
- Michelle (8/5): Basic but comfortable, good value and helpful staff - The ladies on reception were very welcoming and friendly.
- Kiefer (5/5): Great place to stay -> shame about parking - Good location, nice pub, wonderful staff For some reason, they are now charging extra for parking (even though the booking states parking included)
£5 a night
- Mark (9/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful Plugs by the bed would be nice
Bit of dust around skirting boards
As a disabled person I could not get my leg over the bath
These are niggles more than dislikes
- Tobias (10/5): Lovely location, quiet, clean rooms, friendly staff and plenty of parking. - Great location, quiet, clean rooms.

Perfect for just the one night away for myself, partner and son. Great value for money There’s no food options, bar was closed on a Sunday.

Bed was uncomfortable and one side tilted to the point you could fall out. Food choice in restaurants was not great. Very few things to choose from. .
