Guest Reviews
- malcolm (10/5): Perfect location to get best value from a Hakone Pass...and stay in unique comfort - Everything about this property was, frankly, perfect. Reached from Odawara Station on a 40-min bus journey but, then, on bus routes to easily explore the whole region....head to Gora Station to start with ropeways, cable cars, boats and buses...and maybe a view of Fuji. Warm welcome from staff. We were 4 of total 6 in-house guests on first night and had 4 staff looking after us. Included dinner and breakfasts were absolutely delicious. Rooms 101 & 102 were spacious with private hot spring bath...public onsen was superb. Everything was perfect
L'ho trovata comunque molto buona. Personale gentile e disponibile. 10/10 Nulla. Ci ritornerei a occhi chiusi.

- Mid Century Traveller (10/5): Japanese Onsen experience - We felt immediately at home and most welcome. The staff helped us understand the etiquette of staying in a Japanese Ryokan. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had a lovely garden view.. The onsen was well appointed with lovely bathing products and facilities. Everything was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The breakfast was a traditional Japanese style and was delicious. The evening meals were fresh, beautifully presented and service was excellent. We had the most restful and enjoyable stay. A real highlight of Japan. Nothing

- Ronnie (9/5): I would stay here again. - Lovely little Ryokan. Food was fantastic! staff was wonderful! I would have liked more than a single very hot onsen (bath). My wife--shy--would have liked a room with a hot bath, but unfortunately they were sold out.
- Ashley (10/5): - The room was absolutely amazing, especially as the room came with a private onsen which was gorgeous and very convenient especially if you have tattoos. The room was spacious and had a lovely view of the outdoor courtyard.
The breakfast and dinner that were included in our stay was delicious and the staff were so accommodating. If you're looking to get away, this is a great location to do just that.
There's a bus stop approximately 10 minutes away that makes going from one area to the next very straightforward. The location of the hotel is further away from some of the major shopping areas of Hakone and in a more residential part of the city. However, its a beautiful area with lovely views all around, small shops, and restaurants.
If you're looking to stay close to Hakone train station you may want to for hotels in that area but overall transportation is very convenient and allows you to travel around rather easily.
Hotelik czysty. Spędziliśmy trzy noc i jesteśmy bardzo zadowoleni Brak

- kou (10/5): private springs in large room - lovely stay and very kind staff. we had a special room that came with private bathing springs. It was very comfortable and we would stay here again. A little out of the way, tucked high up the mountain and surrounding local neighborhood.

Ambiente molto curato e pulito. Stanza spaziosa. Staff gentile e attento. Cena e colazione buone con porzioni generose. Onsen spazioso, silenzioso e rilassante. Materasso con molle non molto comodo.
- karin (10/5): - The stuff was super friendly and patient, explaining everything at checkout and during the stay. They have instructions for everything in english. The food was delicious(for people who're into japanese traditional food). Very intimate feeling since they don't have lots of rooms. Be aware shower is public(separated for men and women), no shower nor bath in the room.

- Michelly (9/5): Come for the Onsen, stay for the great hospitality! - Come for the Onsen, stay for the hospitality: friendly personnel and tasty food!
- Nicolette (10/5): Perfect Honeymoon Location for Short Hakone Visit - We didn't experience meals at the resort, but my husband and I loved our room with private onsen and outdoor shower. The atmosphere was so soothing and peaceful. The room itself was also very large and included a couch which gave us a lot of comfort while we were there. The hotel was quiet and relaxing and the staff were all very kind. Nothing! We loved everything about it.
- Ellen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional - Overall very positive. What stood out most was the staff. They were some of the most compassionate and caring people I've met. I was blown away by the hospitality and their kindness.

- Yad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yuk (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ki (7/5): Good - Extra charges for an additional person was excessive.
- Robinson (10/5): great comfort in the beauty of Hakone - Chose the large room with private onsen, which was perfect since my brother has tattoos. very cozy, great staff, the bus stop is just a few min away
- Sharon (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (10/5): Great cosy place to unwind in the area if you’re driving. - We got the family room and it came with our own private onsen. The pictures that they put up doesn’t do any justice to the room. It was a really large room! Great space for a family of 4 and the private onsen was a great experience for our kids! Rooms were clean and warm. Beds were also comfortable! Food was great too! Maybe more explanation could be given in English on wearing the yukata around the place and for the food they served.
- Sam (10/5): A beautiful stay in a beautiful city. - Gorgeous, comfortable room. The private onsen was exceptional.
- Caroline (7/5): Good -
- John (9/5): Wonderful Getaway - We had the annex room with the en-suite Onsen and private garden which was a delightful experience. We booked this room specifically due to the separate-sex nature at most public Onsens.
When booking we also expected there will be French cuisine for dinner, but this has now changed after the closure earlier this year and instead we were served a sukiyaki. A traditional Japanese special occasion dish that consists of a broth which you boil vegetable, mushrooms and slices of beef in. During this time there is a small open bar with various soft and alcoholic drinks.
Breakfast was a traditional asagohan teishoku with fish custard, a grilled fish and a small candle heated broth to boil the various bits in.
The room was extremely large and spacious and contained a TV-sofa area, a teppanyaki seating / bedding area and two comfortable king beds with Japanese style pillows.
The staff were also friendly and helpful It's quite a challenge to get to/from using the local bus, next time we would opt for a 10 minute taxi ride from the Hakone Ropeway.
The garden could use some maintenance / deweeding.
We were a little disappointed in the change of menu.
- Simo (9/5): Ok stay - The private onsen was great, even though the room was expensive. The breakfast and dinner were very good. The staff was friendly but some of them seemed to be inexperienced, which was reflected in some issues. The private onsen space itself could have been a bit more tidy, in terms of removal of spider webs from some parts of the ceiling etc.
- Dinko (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anastasiia (9/5): Superb - We had a room with separate onsen and it was very nice, we had dipped ourselves into the hot water several times during the day and were happy! :D
We expected there will be french cuisine for dinner as we read in other reviews, but we were served a sukiyaki. I was a bit terrified as I did not know how to cook it, but the lady who served us explained everything with patience.
Btw. there is no dresscode, but most people were wearing yukata which you can get in the main lobby based on your height.
The room was spacious and luxurious. There was no mold in the room and it was not humid.
We arrived early and wanted just to drop the luggage, but the room was already ready and we were offered to check in early as well, which was super good as the weather was cold and dump. Sitting in private onsen is better than freezing outside! :D
And yes, in the room with private onsen there is no separate shower room, so if you want to simply shower, you need to go to the onsen room which can be quite cold. Light turns on automatic in the hallway and in the toilet by movement sensots, you cannot turn it off, so if you want to visit the bathroom at night, you may experience a burst of light and energy right in your sleepy eyes :)
- Cheryl (9/5): Superb - Excellent onsen,
- Sabina (8/5): This stay brought the zen I was looking for and the food made my stay unforgettable. - The food, both dinner and breakfast, were my favorite meals my whole trip! The food was enough to bring us to bliss but the onsen was the cherry on top. This ryokan is not close to the train station so be aware of windy roads around hills.
- Yosi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tang (8/5): Very good -
- Graeme (9/5): We enjoyed our stay every much. - The family room is very big. The onsen in the room is very nice. The sukiyaki dinner was nice but very salty.
- Rachel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Leana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luca (10/5): Fantastic ryokan experience with incredible breakfast and dinner - The building is very new, the rooms are big and spacious, full of comforts. The private onsen is an incredible experience, definitely worth it. The staff was so kind and helpful, especially the one in the restaurant. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic, the food was prepared methodically and it tasted amazing. The best hotel experience in Japan we’ve had. Not a big deal at all, but some pictures indicate a public onsen or a hot bath. It is not there, as the hotel was renewed 3 years ago. We didn’t care, but it would be better if the hotel made it clear in case some customers wanted to access it.
- Yan (7/5): Good -
- Yueyang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - The food was amazing, there is a private onsen in the room and the room was big and cozy.
The staff was very kind and patient, very sensitive for all our needs.
- Tristan (10/5): The perfect getaway from the Tokyo crowds - The whole experience: the very friendly and welcoming staff, the comfortable beds and spacious rooms, starting and finishing the day at our private onsen, the recommended Mount Ashigara hike passing through the Kintoki shrine, and last but not least the phenomenal(!) food.
We absolutely recommend Hakone Kuoritei for your next Hakone visit! -
- Zhan (10/5): Excellent staff, very accommodating and one of the best included dinner experiences - Staff was excellent and very friendly. Some of them spoke basic to moderate english and it was more than enough to get by. When we arrived we were offered welcome drinks to choose from, some of which included alcohol. We stayed in a separate Annex from the main building. It had pretty much all you need from in floor heating to our own private onsen and a mini garden out the back. It was a mix of traditional and modern interior. Size of the Annex was very big, great for a small family as it had two double beds along with two extra futons in the tatami area.
The most notable part of our stay was the included dinner. Chef Saito is a master at his work on French cuisine. Each dish presented and executed almost perfectly with techniques I didn't know was possible. Breakfast was also included which is also worth it to partake in.
Unfortunately, on the day of our checkout we missed out on the last bus going back to odawara station due to heavy snow. The manager and the staff were so kind to try help us find a way back for us. Though it was to no avail, as all buses and taxis were suspended. The manager ended up going out of his way to drive us back to the nearest available bus stop that was still in service. We ended up trying twice as the first time had heavy congested traffic. We returned back to the ryokan and departed again later in the afternoon.
- Anonymous (10/5): Must Stay! Relaxing, beautiful resort with a hidden gem French restaurant - I booked one night here because I really wanted to try the French cuisine, but our actual room looks even better in person than photos and were so satisfied with our stay here. Chef Saito is a master in his craft, the dinner was Michelin star quality and the breakfast was equally delicious!
There isn’t much of a reception area as this resort is very small, only a few rooms. But the hospitality was great and the staff really tried to speak in English which we really appreciated. Not the property’s fault but the two female guests sitting behind us during dinner were extremely disruptive to our dining experience. One of them kept leaving and entering the restaurant multiple times, we were sitting close to the door so it was really annoying, and they kept complaining about everything, and how she wouldn’t eat this and that. I think that staff should consider next time how to handle the situation better, as the hostess was not able to communicate with them well, since the guests didn’t speak English well either. We could not really concentrate on eating the delicious food when guests were hampering the experience.
- Bradley (9/5): Worth it for the private onsen - The highlight was the in-room onsen. Meals were fancier than we expected but were very good.
- Katherine (8/5): Very good -
- Ki (9/5): Superb - The food is like heaven. We are fortunate to have tried all sorts of delicacies from all over the world, but what came out of Chef Saito’s mind and craft was a real standout!
- Alison (10/5): So relaxing, the food was amazing too - My own private onsen Nothing
- Fu (9/5): Superb -
