Guest Reviews
- Andrea (10/5): Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting - Lovely setting and beautiful house Nothing
- gm (6/5): Aankomst veelbelovend kamers teleurstellend - Ontbijt weinig keus
Kamer warm en klein
Badkamer gedateerd
- louise (8/5): - Spa was amazing, nice place. Nothing to note that we didn't like
- Ashley (2/5): -
- anna (7/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): Fantastic - Super friendly staff, great facilities and fantastic dinner.
The only way to make it better would be some more secluded working areas for traveling on business and a coffee machine in the room As above
- Michelle (8/5): -
- David (10/5): -
- Mario (8/5): - Super freundlich und perfekt organisiert
- Sally-Ann (10/5): A truly exceptional stay — luxurious, thoughtful, peaceful, and one of the finest hotel experiences - Having travelled extensively both personally and professionally all over the world, I can honestly say that Horwood House was one of the most exceptional hotel experiences I have ever had.
The room was absolutely spectacular, beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, warm, fresh, and incredibly comfortable. It felt luxurious whilst still being welcoming and peaceful.
The breakfast experience was equally thoughtful and impressive. As I struggle to eat very early in the morning, the staff kindly accommodated me with a takeaway breakfast box, which was such a considerate touch. The quality of the food was outstanding throughout my stay fresh, delicious, and clearly prepared with care.
The spa was also such a wonderful treat — the pool, steam room, and sauna were beautifully relaxing and added so much to the overall experience. I especially appreciated that there was no stressful need to pre-book time slots; you could simply arrive and enjoy the facilities before 7.30pm, which made the whole stay feel effortless and calming.
What truly makes Horwood House special, however, is the history, the atmosphere and the level of service. Every detail felt considered, and the whole experience was relaxing, elegant, and memorable from beginning to end. I genuinely cannot wait to return in 10 days with my son. Honestly, the only thing I didn’t like was having to leave! If I had one tiny suggestion, it would be to include dressing gowns in the rooms to make the experience even more perfect and luxurious.

- Aksana (9/5): Beautiful and cozy hotel with atmosphere - Amazing building and area around of hotel. Clean and comfortable room. We weren’t informed that we needed to hang a sign on the door if we wanted the room to be cleaned.
- murray (5/5): - v slow and expensive restaurant service/high price
- Terri (8/5): - Beautiful old house and grounds which are appropriately decoratedetc., friendly helpful staff ,nice pool, nice breakfast. Wish the pool was open an hour later at night
- Keith Hosky (9/5): -
- Lewis (10/5): Excellent hotel. Really enjoyable stay. -
- Tyra (10/5): Would definitely recommend and I’ll be returning! - So clean & quiet! Absolutely beautiful place to stay for a quiet getaway.
- Grant (10/5): Relaxing - Beautiful place & setting. Lovely staff . N/a
- Plunkett (8/5): Lovely room, needed more coffee. - The hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We atayed for our wedding night. The only disappointment was the coffee. We wanted a coffee (as a minimal) on arrival and in the morning but the amounts of cooffee/milk/sugar are very frugal meaning on the morning we had to have black coffee with little sugar. We don't use excessive amounts and thought that this was one of the most important things for one night in a room.
- Steve (5/5): - Good staff. Great location. The pipes in both bedrooms were noisy and kept us awake. Not a good nights sleep.
- Harris (10/5): -
- Paul (4/5): unremarkable - The publicity image is great howevr I found the actual rooms and corridors very bland, characterless and difficult to find a way around
- Clare (10/5): -
- Tim (7/5): Better overall and the mass production style hotels of the main chains - The view of the main house upon approach was nice and the receptionist likewise. Room was rather small with very limited space around the bed. Bathroom and wardrobe were fine. Rather long and complex hallways to locate the room and then to find the breakfast and or the car park. They did provide a map so I guess they know its an issue
- Julie (10/5): Overnight spa stay - Amazing stay, facilities were great. Staff so friendly. Beautiful grounds. Nothing
- Nitharsana (4/5): Meh - Nice location Dirty bathroom, cloudy water, no lifts, underground rooms.
- roy (10/5): - Lovely place, staff really helpful Nothing to not like
- William (10/5): - Secluded and lovely

- Patrick (5/5): I felt conned as the picture has no relevance to the hotel - Location was excellent, sadly the picture does not reflect the hotel,
The picture used in advertising does not reflect the hotel, which is nothing more than a purpose-built factory Hotel , similar to a Premier Inn.
The service was good , although the restaurant was noisy ,
The bed was comfortable ,
And the garden was lovely , but I do feel like using that picture of the original house is false advertising As above
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Myself (2/5): Arrived with great expectations and couldn't leave fast enough, will NEVER return or recommend. - The pictures they use to sell the hotel.
The location.
The drive up to the hotel
Leaving The staff were indifferent and liked to pick their nose in the restaurant.
The rooms were like a basic Premiere Inn at three times the cost – unless you specifically book the manor house go to a Premiere Inn or even a Travelodge – same experience at a third of the cost.
The tables in the restaurant were sticky.
The place is like a cross between Crossroads Motel and a motorway service station.
- Kitty (10/5): - Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Great facilities, including a well-equipped gym as well as the onsite health spa. Quiet rooms - there was a wedding event with quite loud music in the main area but I couldn't hear it from my room. Good restaurant on site. Beautiful grounds to walk around. Room was not super spacious but I was only there for one night as a solo traveler so it was fine for me.
- Gozde (10/5): -
- DARREN (5/5): -
- Judith (10/5): Staff were excellent and the room was so cozy. The dinner was chef’s kiss! - A very serene environment.
- Casey (9/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): -
- Ashley (7/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): Beautiful place but not worth the money to stay there - Beautiful property and grounds The room was clean but the pillows were clearly old and uncomfortable and didn’t fit into the pillow cases properly. The cooked breakfast was mediocre and pulled a hair out of the fried eggs!
- Connal (8/5): -
- Jay (8/5): Lovely hotel with amazing location and would definitely recommend. - Lovely grounds, bar was very nice with a great selection of drinks. Room was clean and tidy. Spa was very small. Not much room to enjoy the facilities even when it wasn’t too busy.
- Jackie (8/5): -
- Sam (8/5): - The king deluxe room was lovely, the grounds were beautiful, the staff were very helpful and moved our room when we had issues on the first night. The stables room was a bit messy and the plumbing was loud in the night.
- Mark (3/5): Miles out the way .. inflexabilotynon pool access -
- Christabel (9/5): - Clean and peaceful
- Alex (9/5): If we stayed again I definitely make sure we didn’t have to do the walk . It’s like a maze. - The Hotel was very nice . It had all what we needed The room was on the lower level but getting to the room from reception or The dining room . was a long walk and you had to go upstairs then downstairs there was no lift .
- rebecca (8/5): -
- Charlotte (4/5): Disappointing! - Breakfast was good Was expecting to stay in the manor house
Room was extremely over priced for what we paid and would definitely not recommend - paid extra for a deluxe king!
Staff were quite rude, when we asked why the bar was not still open, they said it would mean paying more staff
Receptionist on arrival was not welcoming
Dinner was average
Felt the description was misleading, looks like a stay in a country hotel and is a modern hotel at the back - rooms like a premier inn at inflated price, very basic and "cheap" feel to decor and furniture. Paid the price thinking we would be in a country house hotel.
- Cristina-Alexandra (10/5): Great - Everything Loads of kids splashing at the pool, other than that it was lovely
- Colin (8/5): -
- Sinead (8/5): -
- Mark (6/5): - Lovely setting and great location. Hotel is over heated and the rooms were basic and small.
- Grace (10/5): -
- Mark (4/5): Nice location, disappointing room - The hotel is clean and modern set in beautiful grounds. The breakfast was good and restaurant OK. We didn't use the spa or pool but it looked nice from the outside. Our Classic Double Room was disappointing. It had no AC and was stuffy even in early May - I dread think what it would be like in the height of summer. It's always a bad sign when they supply a fan! The bed seemed smaller than I would expect at that price point, and the walls were like cardboard - you could easily hear conversations of people passing in the corridor, and our headboard actually shook when next door closed their door! This is not the quality I would expect at this price point, cheaper options such as Premier Inn or Travelodge are more comfortable.
For a fairly recently refurbished hotel the omission of AC is extraordinary and therefore this hotel compares poorly with competitors.
- Stuart (6/5): Pleasant - Good facilities Not particularly child friendly, even at weekends the swimming pool access is very restricted. The bedrooms had a real lack of ventilation making them warm and stuffy.
- anisha (8/5): - Clean and nice decor The pool area is too small only a few beds and chairs around
- oscar Machan (7/5): -
- S (6/5): Overpriced and tiny. - Pretty grounds and pleasant lobby. The room was tiny, difficult to move around one another. Small bathroom, just generally very small, not good value for money. The breakfast, which we opted not to have, was also very expensive at £15 per person per day.
- Tracey (10/5): - Everything was just perfect 👌 N/A
- Atkins (1/5): I didn’t like this stay at all - Nothing Dirty
- Helen (10/5): Would stay again! - Gorgeous stay, food was lovely. Staff super friendly and helpful
- Martin (10/5): -
- Tom (10/5): Amazing - Really nice, great staff, comfortable rooms, massive Asda nearby Nothing
- Nadia (5/5): -
- Megan (8/5): Lovely quaint escape, worth the money! - Gorgeous location, very quiet and a real quaint escape, the spa is also amazing and so clean Harry’s bar was the only restaurant in the evening on site which was lovely but a little overpriced for us
- Holly Ann (10/5): -
- Pam (8/5): -
- Danielle (7/5): Comfortable - The beautiful Manor House, lovely long driveway and the gorgeous trees. That the new buildings are not in keeping with g with the original architecture at all
- Lisa (6/5): Wouldn’t stay Avon for the price was very disappointed appointment - The views and grounds. Wasn’t the rooms
Showing on the ad booking was more like a travel lodge room
Meals were so privet for portions you got an s service charges added to bill totalling £50 outrageous
- Grace (10/5): -
- simon (7/5): Pleasant and served a purpose - The house and grounds were lovely The Executive suite wasn’t very executive! It was a normal room partitioned into two halves
- Waugh (6/5): It was fine but slightly disappointing - Spa was nice, as was breakfast and the gardens Work function in Horwood house so we weren’t allowed to go to it. That was really poor since their marketing revolves around the house and we came to visit it yet, without foresight they told us it wasn’t allowed.
Also the butter chicken was crap in the restaurant, have the beef shoulder instead, that was delightful
- Peter (9/5): Pleasant hotel that is set back from the hustle and bustle - Nice Buffett breakfast
- Simon (10/5): -
- Gibbs (10/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Stop over - Nice Edwardian house, clean, functional. Value for money. You need a map to find your way around. Room a little small but ok.
- Simon (8/5): -
- Norman Anderson (5/5): Horwood house - Breakfast was good, it was busy though. Bed was comfy. The grounds were nice. Staff welcoming to the hotel seemed polite but insincere. Customer service not quite what you'd hope for a nice hotel. I noticed we were given vague short instructions of where to go to find room, and later on I noticed the staff being much more friendly to a different couple and even leading them to their room nicely without it being asked of them. Upon asking to change from a disabled access room to a regular one, we were given one right opposite the lights when I'm sure others further down corridor would've been available and more desirable from a noise standpoint. Also the bathroom only has 2 lightbulbs in it, no mirror lights or anything. One of the two lightbulbs was broken, asked for this to be fixed and obvs nothing done about it. Breakfast was very busy, nearly full, waiting times for everything from buffet.
- James (3/5): Acts premium but in reality it’s overpriced basics. - Location is beautiful Overpriced tiny rooms. Our room also had cobwebs, the shower extractor fan was clogged up with dust and there was paint flaking off the ceiling. No mini bar / fridge and no laundry service on site. The place charges a premium but only provides a basic room; because there is nowhere else to stay within miles. There was a real lack of staff around and anyone that you did see was always too busy to help. Very disappointing
- Louise (10/5): Great value weekend stay - Great Nothing
- Samantha (4/5): Could have been better - Room was disappointing. Hotel acknowledged fault and gave a token reimbursement.
- Jonathon (8/5): -
- Marylouise (8/5): We have stayed here many times and we will continue to stay here - We love the facilities at the hotel We found that it’s worth paying the extra monies for the rooms over looking the back of the hotel
- JM1249 (8/5): Lovely stay but some areas to review - Our stay at Horwood House Hotel was lovely overall. The rooms were quiet and comfortable, which made for a relaxing stay. Breakfast was also very good, well stocked, and it was great to see dietary needs being catered for. The room would benefit from a deeper clean, as some areas did not feel as fresh as they could have been. The pool area also needed more attention, as there were tissues in the filters and the water appeared cloudy.
- Nicole (8/5): -
- Nick (3/5): We left to to go to pubs so we could sit outside - Breakfast Two weddings and areas prohibited due to this
- Louise (8/5): -
- David (1/5): Not very good - I had a wedding lunch then went back to the room because my stomach didn’t feel good
I had stomach cramps all night and was kept awake with the noise from the radiator
- Brian (9/5): Would definitely return :) - Lovely clean comfortable room. Staff were superb. Dinner was lovely with super service Long walk to the room on the lower ground floor which was difficult for us as seniors
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Anita (10/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): A good hotel but not quite what we expected. - Good location- beautiful surroundings. Very friendly staff and spotlessly clean. The menu catered for all tastes. Not a dislike but we were disappointed to find that the Manor House itself wasn’t part of our experience and that all the dining/ bar areas that we had access to, were in the modern part of the hotel being used for conferences. The image of the hotel is a little misleading.
- Nathan (10/5): Excellent stay at Horwood House - highly recommend it - The staff were all extremely polite, helpful and just overall a delight. The grounds are beautiful, great to explore and have an evening walk. The facilities on site are all to a high standard. My only gripe was that the room was not air conditioned and was a little stuffy during the evening, apart from that, no complaints
- Martin (5/5): Good for one night in a comfortable bed - Bed very comfortable and room very clean but hot as overlooked the carpark and we didn’t feel we could leave the window open. There was a repaired broken window pane which had been patched with Perspex which caused condensation. Breakfast was passable and within expectation Room was hot. The exterior images of the hotel used on line do not represent the guest areas in that you’re not staying in a pretty Edwardian manor but in the modern extension which is attached
