Guest Reviews

- Rianna (9/5): everything you could need for a great trip! - really comfortable apartment in a lovely walkable location. all available amenities were great; the shower was amazing! the food recommendations Camille sent were also very helpful nothing!
- Valerie (7/5): Logement fonctionnel et bien placé, mais ressenti mitigé par manque de propreté général et petit désagrément d’un équipe - La situation géographique Le manque de luminosité et l’état de propreté
- Dominika (4/5): Kiepsko - Dobra lokalizacja, blisko centrum – wszystko w zasięgu spaceru. Apartament odpowiedni na kilka dni, widać remont i dopasowanie do klimatu dzielnicy Le Panier. Niestety czystość pozostawia wiele do życzenia.

- Caoimhe (6/5): Nice place - This place is in a really great location. The bed is comfortable and has everything u would need for a couple days exploring the city. Communication with the host was easy and overall we had a good stay. Others have said it was very dark with a tiny window which it was but didn’t bother us as we basically just slept there as we were out all day exploring. I think the bathroom could be cleaner with a new shower curtain. But I would stay here again. Also, the street is not accessible by car so keep that in mind. If you park in the car park you will need to carry your luggage up stairs and hills to get there.
- Priscilia (9/5): Superb -
- Tigran (1/5): Avoid at all costs – Misleading photos, filthy conditions, and unsafe environment - NOTHING This was by far the worst accommodation experience we’ve ever had — and we travel frequently, both with and without kids. The listing was completely misleading compared to what we walked into. The room had one tiny window with barely any airflow, smelled damp and musty the moment we opened the door, and was overall in appalling condition.
The toilet and shower were filthy, the bed linen was stained and looked like it hadn't been changed. When we contacted the manager immediately upon arrival, he responded quickly but simply said nothing could be done and even admitted that "stained sheets are normal but they are clean." Absolutely unacceptable. We ended up sleeping in our clothes because it was just too disgusting.
On top of this, the place felt genuinely unsafe — with exposed wiring, flickering lights, and poor maintenance throughout. I took photos to document the state of things, and I honestly can't understand how this property is allowed to stay listed.
The room was advertised as soundproof, but we could hear every single thing happening in the rooms above and next to us — footsteps, showers, toilets flushing — it honestly felt like we were all in one big room together. The sofa bed was unusable — you could feel every piece of the metal frame through the thin mattress when trying to sleep.
We had no choice but to stay for two nights with our children, and it was a truly stressful, upsetting experience for all of us. Booking this place was a huge mistake, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Do not be fooled by the photos – this place is a health and safety hazard, and completely unfit for guests. Stay far away.
- Vesta (7/5): Good flat, but cleanliness can be improved - Well equiped, close to port, good location, compact Cleanliness.
Bedsheet has not been changed from previous guests. The bed was full of dirt and hair, had to sleep on a towel which was also did not appear to be freshly washed
Other than the cleaning standards the flat is great, but fact that bedding was not changed and owner ignored that message is unacceptable
- Marie (8/5): A beautiful room in a great location - The property is situated in a beautiful little street in Le Panier. The room itself is lovely with nice furniture. The kitchen is spotless. The bathroom is spacious enough with a great shower. The lack of natural light is a serious problem. There is no proper window and it looks like it was originally a storage area which was converted into a room. You need the light on constantly and people should be aware of this.
- Ken (7/5): Ok but tell guests if an alternative way to get there, not far to walk which is deceiving, beast by taxi. - Comfortable, clean. Location, directions not clear, very had to find and to many stairs to carry suite case at 78 years old.
- Lewis (9/5): Wonderful studio apartment in a fabulous location! - Cosy little studio apartment smartly furnished with a well equipped kitchenette.
- Rayna (10/5): Delightful stay, merci bien! - Charming, well-stocked with relevant kitchen/ bath supplies
- Csilla (8/5): Very good - The apartment was situated in the historical city center. The surrounding was very authentic.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent apartment and would highly recommend - Great location in the Panier area which was perfect for our short stay in Marseille. Apartment was very well set up, clean and comfortable with everything we needed.
- Marcus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ivana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (5/5): Disappointing but hopefully the manager / owner is taking steps to improve. - If you like Le Panier then it’s in a good location and close to the old port. I’ve thought long and hard about this review as after a dialogue with the manager some improvements are to be made for which I’m thankful but we didn’t really enjoy our stay here.
On arrival we noticed the towels which were odd and one bleach stained had been left on the bed and were damp. These were replaced by two more odd towels one of which was stained. There were no hand towels. This has since been rectified with matching towels and hand towels I understand.
The bedding is sub standard and the pink base sheet was an odd match for the beige duvet cover. The pillows were old and lumpy. The owner has since rectified this I understand.
The bathroom is small and the shower area in need of a full clean. Especially the grouting at the lower levels. The shower curtain is discoloured and needs replacing.
The photographs on booking.com make the apartment look bright. In reality there is just one small window high up and very little natural light as others have pointed out. It’s not really possible to use the apartment without the lights being on all the time.
The apartment is on Le Panier. If arriving on foot it’s not possible to reach it without a steep climb up steps for 150 feet or so or up slopes. I understand that the property description has now been amended to reflect this.
If arriving on foot from the train station I would strongly advise you not to follow the Google maps route at the roundabout in front of Le Panier off Rue de La republic as the series of steps it takes you up are unrelentingly steep and covered in pigeon faeces and stink of urine. Instead follow the sign to the Old port and take the steps on the left hand side of Le Panier.
- Gabriela (8/5): Very good - The location
- Wendy (8/5): Very good -
- Szilard (6/5): Okay for a shorter stay - It's exactly as you would expect from the pictures - relatively small since it's a studio, small kitchen and a bathroom. Everything is fairly well stocked, with a few exceptions. Initially I had some difficulty finding the instructions for the keys - tried calling the owner but as expected, the number was disconnected but that's to be expected for France. There's shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, but the shower gel is empty. Kitchen has no dish rags. Best of all, there's only one tiny window towards the outside so the air can get...stale.
- Jolley (10/5): Fantastic host, location and facilities - The apartment was exceptionally clean and well organised. The bed and the sofa bed were both very comfortable.
The location was very convenient with easy walking access to municipal electric bicycles, shops, bakery, train station, the old port and a host of boutique cafes, restaurants and shops. There was lots of hot water, and no shortage of any bathroom necessities. Communication with the host was excellent, whom I found to be extremely helpful and organised. In particular, I appreciated the detailed information folder which was sent to us as PDF in advance, and also in printed form in the apartment. All in all, a great stay Nothing was out of order of missing. I have no complaints other than not having been able to stay any longer!
- Milena (8/5): Very good -
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good -
- Katherine (10/5): Highly recommend this property. - Loved this place. Great location and nice property. The host gave good restaurant suggestions which were appreciated. Everything was perfect!
- Linda (8/5): Excellent location for a short stay. - The apt was clean and in a great location. The owner provided an excellent write-up and recommended places to eat, how to get taxi, etc. It is so small that it is challenging for 2 people. Also, the only window is tiny.
- Lisa (8/5): Clean and comfortable - Very clean Lack of air con and natural light
- Barb (7/5): It was a place to stay - Loved the location in the old Panier District. Bed was comfortable, it was very quiet and clean, and had the basics of everything you need for a few days. The hostess was available, informative and communicated well, and it’s run more like an airbnb than a hotel- just a private studio in a residential area. The lock on the door was very hard to open. There’s only one small window up in a corner, so no sunlight or ventilation. The pictures make it look very bright and cheery but in reality it’s dark and stuffy although there is a fan to circulate the air.
- Alexandra (10/5): Perfect location to visit lovely Marseille! - Fabulous location at the heart of old Marseille and Port. Cute little studio perfect for a long weekend with friends. Camille, our host, is lovely, provides super prompt responses and lots of great local tips. Totally recommend La Sardine du Panier!
- Curt (9/5): Great little flat in old town Marseille. - The room was as described, easy to find, the instructions and information provided by Camille were excellent... it made our stay and arrival very easy. I appreciated the restaurant suggestions too! Plenty of hot water and towels. Maybe an extra pillow or two would be nice 🙂 Hard to find anything wrong... it's perfect for two, but probably a bit small for any more.
- Jayney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional - Location was great and communication brilliant
- Vlad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good - Great little apartment in a good location, easy walk to the old Port. Good size bathroom and shower and comfortable bed. We felt very safe in the neighbourhood and in the apartment with its double doors. The host had great communication was very helpful. Nice to have a little kitchen to use as well. It would have been nice to have at least one platter and a few small bowls in the cupboard for platters/ nibbles in the evening, and the knives were very blunt (but we are particular and like sharp knives). Not really a negative, but something we missed. A note for future guests, the service at the little Cafe around the corner is extraordinarily slow, but the drinks were good.
- Annie (10/5): Highly recommend. Cleanest place we have rented and very well decorated with the Marseille theme. The owner, Camille, re - Absolute gem in the heart of the panier. Very clean, easy check in and the owner is very helpful. Nothing!
- Theo (7/5): Did not feel safe - Central to old city Instructions for parking and difficulty getting to the property
- Barbara (10/5): Lovely suite. Clean ans friendly, helpful host. Offered suggestions for restaurant and things to do, - Location to restaurants and amenities was great. Walkable distance to harbour,
very compact suite including all amenities for our stay. Area seemed a little sketchy but we felt very comfortable once we were able to explore and get to know our surroundings.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, comfy and clean apartment, friendly and communicative host
- Ron (9/5): Spacious and Pleasant Stay - A spacious and pleasant unit in a wonderful location. The room has only one small window.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Property very clean and well equipped. Good location for exploring Marseille in the old Artisan area. Craft shops and bars nearby. Some restaurants not open in the area but may be due to being there slightly off season. Nothing
- Katie (9/5): Superb - So close to the centre, great space for tourists. A minor problem with ants.
- Noel (10/5): Exceptional - Lights too harsh. Dimmers needed.
- Marieta (10/5): Exceptional - I would especially like to thank Camille, who made our stay in Marseille particularly pleasant! The flat looks exactly like the pictures! Everything was explained perfectly. The flat is fascinating because of the artistic style! The location is super to reach the sights on foot.
The Camille answered all questions and even gave more information, very helpful.
We wholeheartedly gave him 5 stars and highly recommend it!
Thank you again!
- Patrycja (10/5): Exceptional - The location is amazing! The Panier district is unique, lot of hidden gems, such as small eateries, coffee shops, shops, and galleries. Only 10 minutes walk from the port, which would be your central point for discovering Marseille! Just be mindful Marseille is quite hilly, so be ready to conquer 100s of stairs during your trip! :)
- Taimia (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adam (8/5): Fabulous - perfect studio close to the city, ringed by fab restaurants but lovely and quiet despite being a spit from th - Fantastic location and excellently kitted out, despite the bijou proportions. Some hangers or even a hatstand would have been handy, but not a deal-breaker. Just one small window but it meant we slept brilliantly and you can always open the door.
- Benedicte (8/5): Very good - The area of the panier is such a beautiful part of the city. too dark, only a tiny window and no view since the window is up high near the ceiling.
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): AMAZING - This property is just amazing!! Amazing location and stunning accommodations, If your looking for a city break in Marseilles I can’t recommend this apartment enough and to top our stay off the owner was amazing in sending us recommendations and contact details if we had any issues.👌 10 out of 10😍 nothing
