Guest Reviews
- Glenda (10/5): Fantastic Fantasy - Please note we were changed from this hotel to their sister resort, Fantasy resort so these scores are for Fantasy. We loved everything about our stay at Fantasy, wonderful staff, comfortable beds, delicious food and the house reef was fantastic for snorkeling daily. Will definitely love to go again.
- Karl-Heinz (10/5): -
- Christina (9/5): We enjoyed the great view, having kayaks to explore the coast and the nice staff -
- radovan (10/5): - The room is really nice — it has air conditioning, a very clean bathroom, no rust, no rubbish, and everything works well.
For 2,500 baht, including a big breakfast and a served dinner, it’s probably the cheapest price on the island.
There’s also an amazing swimming pool on the hill.
I’ve been there for more than one month and I will definitely come again. You can also go diving from this island for a good price. They usually serve rice every day, but you can order by menu also . 🙂

- Stephen (9/5): Stunning views and comfortable accommodation backed up by very caring service - The views from our room and the pool were exceptional, the customer service manager and reception manager were very friendly and helpful We enjoyed every evening meal we had, where each dish was cooked with a considered mix of fresh spices. We appreciated having a variety of places to sit and relax. There were a few signs of wear and tear, though nothing serious. Unfortunately the care and attention at the pool was not up to the standard elsewhere in the hotel, which was a shame. At high tide access to the main section of the beach and other resorts was not always easy.
- Jochen (10/5): -
- Katarzyna (10/5): Rewelacyjne miejsce i wspaniała obsługa. -
- Cass Wanderlust (10/5): - Facilities are basic in the room - pool is nice with a good view. Food was nice and they catered well to me being Vegan... also appreciate that you're paying for the island and the beach front so I accepted the basic room in exchange for that
- Shirley (5/5): Nice rooms, but with over 120 steep and crumbling steps to the room, we won’t be staying again. - The room and breakfast are nice Dangerous steps up to room. Green slime in pool, so hadn’t been cleaned for a while.
- Lisa (10/5): Sehr zufrieden, vielen Dank - Sehr nettes Personal. Toller Ausblick und ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Musik beim Abendessen sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig 😅

- Banerjie (9/5): Family-friendly and very accommodating. We will come back! - We love that the room is clean and big. We have a lovely balcony.. everything is great for our ocean adventures. Our resort is off to the side and quiet. The kitchen staff has accommodated our vegetarian needs. The view was sea view and ours is off to the side, so we would have preferred something directly looking at the water.
- Tomer (9/5): Wonderful experience - Dinner included forced me to try new and delicious food I would normally avoid. Really liked that part. You can also pay with card for everything at reception. Staff was wonderful, very friendly and helpful. They have free cold butterfly pea flower tea which was absolutely wicked, thanks!
There are many small shops around the island that have everything you might need (cash only).
The best chance of seeing Hornbills is at Koh Ngai Seafood restaurant.
- malingri (1/5): - Cade a pezzi!!!
- Arrate (9/5): -
B. Kaputte Liegen/ Fauteuil
- Elmar (6/5): Passt - Alles top leider kein Strand vorhanden Kein Strand
- debbie (10/5): - Loved the location, further to the north from the middle jetty. So peaceful and quiet. The staff were so lovely and attentive. The pool and the view is out of this world. The view from our bedroom, was incredible. Think it will stay in my brain forever. We watched the most beautiful sunset from our balcony ❤️ The steps!! You have to be a little fit to do the steps, although I most definitely am not, from our room to the pool was over 100 steps, I was lured by the promise of an ice cream at the top 🤣 about 5 flights of steps for dinner and 2 flights for breakfast. There are lovely chaps with tuk tuks to help with luggage.
I would go again despite the steps.
- Cristina (10/5): - Everything is great and all staff super friendly!
- mark (7/5): Lovely location for the adventuress - Location was great for us because we had so many experiences walking home along the beach on a night back from the beach bars along the bay, experiences we would have never had if we where in a more central location, every night was an adventure and that's why we visited Thailand. The view from the pool is spectacular and their beach front area is great for snorkelling. We missed our meals as we were out early and tea time, we did ask if we could swap evening meal for dinner which they wouldn't accommodate for some reason. Would have been a lovely gesture of goodwill.
- Theresa (8/5): Great location for finding piece and enjoying nature. We would come back - The staff were super friendly and helpful; the location and the pool are superb. Most areas need renewal or repairs. Overall it was functional. The breakfast beverages were poor quality, food fine; the dining options in the set menu seemed repetitive with too much chicken (but that is very subjective). Extra charges apply that weren’t mentioned in our booking!
- Eva-Jule (10/5): -
Wasserleitungen.
- Mitchell (10/5): - The staff were very facilitating and friendly everything done with a smile and no problem to large When food they cook is incredible but the walk home was hard😅
- Kristian Fernandes (10/5): -
- Elin (6/5): Not as expected - The staff were very professional and helpful. The AC in our room was new. Great view from the balcony. Everything is so worn out. In our room several furniture was starting to tear. And that is the general feeling of the place, that it was good 20 years ago. I don’t understand much of the layout, like a hallway with decorations. There is no beach by the hotel and we got the impression that the hotel had a beach area. Because of the tides it’s quite a walk to get to a beach spot. The pool area had sunchairs but no mattresses. For us this was a bit pricey for what we got for the same price at other locations like Koh Kradan and Koh Mook.
- Marianne (8/5): The facilities were a bit run down, but all staff were totally amazing! They alone made the hotel turn into the perfect - The view was amazing! The bed and pillows were really hard, and there are many stairs up and down. Have to be fit!
- Olof (10/5): Situated on the calm side of the beach. - It is very clean and very friendly and customer-centric people that work there.
Sehr freundliches Personal.
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Henna (9/5): - Calm location, friendly staff, amazing view
- Artur (7/5): Could be soooo much better... - The one thing about the place you cannot beat is the pool. The location is spectacular and the views even more so! Surprisingly, it's never really crowded, and there are times you can have it to yourself.
The size of the room is decent, the balcony view overwhelming, and the daily cleaning is immaculate.
Sadly, this is where the positives end.
The storage spaces in the room are insufficient and impractical. To reach the sockets, you need to move furniture around, and they are still very inconvenient to reach. The manual for the boiler in the bathroom is outdated, there is actually no need to do anything to turn it on.
The whole place is a little run-down and some of its downfall is probably due to mismanagement of it - very few people seem to be really working there - with the exception of the cleaners, the porter and the receptionists, most others hardly acknowledge your presence, too busy with their mobile phones. This does not project a good image for the hotel.
Breakfast, except for the omelettes, is a very poor buffet. Some surfaces and the floor in places are sticky and evidently not cleaned often enough.
All in all, it's a place with a great potential and it is a shame that it is being wasted...
- Joseph (8/5): Wish we had stayed longer! You get lost in the incredible views. Ko Ngai is a stunning little island, with no bikes or c - The views are absolutely stunning from this hotel, like the name suggests it is on a hill, and has superb views from balconies and especially pool area. If you don’t like steps or walking up hills this probably isn’t for you, but for those that don’t mind it’s well worth it for the views.
Great value as well. The place is a little dated in places but that didn’t really bother us for the price. The pool and balcony views make up for it.
Our bed was hard but that seems to be popular in Asia and we are getting used to them that way.
Breakfast was fine, with beautiful views in the morning.
The hotel and rest of the beach AREN’T inaccessible at high tide, like some reviews suggest, there are paths behind the beach, you just can’t walk on the sand the whole way when the tide is high.
The hotel has kayaks for rent and very reasonable prices, didn’t enquire about snorkelling stuff but other hotels have gear that you can rent.
You can snorkel off the beach. Like a few have said the cocktails were a bit week. The food was ok. We also had some ants in our room/balcony but didn’t bother us.
- Joshdiver (7/5): Good - The view, the pool. Ants in room, not enough charge plugs. They charge alot for a cocktail and put no booze in it. Weak drinks.
- Happy (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (10/5): Fantastic ! - Fantastic location very near Kohsan road but far enough away to be peaceful !! The perfect place to stay. Great restaurant too. Highly recommended Nothing
- Sarah (7/5): We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and have been very spoilt with the incredible views - The pool is AMAZING !!! Incredible view … breathtaking. Views from rooms is also amazing. View from the pool loo is hilarious 😆 Beds are really hard. Set menu in half board deal is not great.
- Michael (10/5): Delightful hotel in great location. Very helpful staff. Stunning views from room and splendid pool on top level. - Great location at the end of the beach. Very tidal, but mornings had low tide for us, so lovely early walks along the beach and watching sunrise. Great balcony with stunning views (722). Spacious room. Comfy beds. BUT several flights of stairs up to room! Infinity pool up more flights - but worth the climb!! Lovely pool and gorgeous views. Shady area where you could watch birds in the tops of trees. Snorkelling is not straightforward, as you need to swim round the headland when tide is right. It had faded charm and will no doubt be renovated soon. But no complaints from me!
- Jan (7/5): Good - View from the room was nice and good exercise up all the stairs :). Dinner also nice. No beach at Hotel, you need to walk 2-300 m and other resorts block the way from the sea at tide. Need to find away behind all.
- Clive (3/5): Do not go here - it is a DUMP. - The room was functional, spacious with brilliant views across the bay. The evening meal (provided as part of half-board) was adequate although I would have got bored with it if we had stayed any longer. The whole area was run down, the staff miserable, unhelpful with absolutely zero management. When asked they said the only manager lived in Bangkok and never visited and the staff worked very long hours with no relief - no wonder they were so miserable. Breakfasts were appalling with only one person working all the time (there were several staff in attendance) but only one did anything. The stairs (and there are hundreds) were all cracked, dirty and uneven. The beach was an eyesore and I presume a deliberate ploy to let the beech be overgrown between the ´resort´ and anywhere else at high tide to force people to stay in the miserable place. No wonder everyone went to bed by 9!
- David (8/5): A great short stay with awesome pool - Great pool and a great quiet location. However when we were there the tide came in on a night leaving the rest of the beach restaurants and bars inaccessible. Good snorkelling Lots of steps but there is a golf buggy
Staff were very unorganised at evening meal service so be patient as the food was ok. Beware the bar shuts at 9pm
- Gemma (2/5): Avoid staying at this hotel. Overpriced, dated, inaccessible. - There is not much good to say about this ‘resort’. One of the single beds (they don’t do doubles) was comfortable. The view from the pool is good, but not worth staying there for. The two receptionists were a saving grace turning the rating to 2/10 from 1/10. Absolutely awful hotel: the serve ‘set meal’ for dinner which is cold and inedible, breakfast is awful, they run out quickly, the man shouts at you if you want your eggs cooked, we don’t think they’ve ever heard of good service. The location is in tatters, covered in rubbish, there are no walkways, so you are stuck in the resort or out of the resort when tide is high unless you wish to swim home. They do not provide tide timings so it is risky to get home. Until we discovered from another resort you can part walk through the jungle, you need a torch and there is not a decent path or walk way to get through. There is glass on the ‘private beach’, and rubbish absolutely everywhere. The Rooms are very dated, one plug socket, poorly decorated and not kept up to decent standards. Overall this should not be called a ‘resort’, it is unbelievably overpriced for what it is, it Is very dated, there is no management, staff sleep on tables and are clearly over worked and tired. We heard them speak about having no breaks and working 7 days a week, no one seems to know what they’re doing. Also the bar operates random hours, all staff look pissed off with you if you ask for anything! Overall avoid at all costs.
- Natalie (8/5): Very good - Pool and view The stuff doesn’t speak English, the room is old
- Dave (5/5): Passable - Roof top pool, rooms spacious with good balcony. Sunbeds need replacing, no food or drunk access at pool after 3pm.
Half board evening food option poor, breakfast choice a joke for the amount paid.
Clearer signage would make getting around easier.
- Kevin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Elisabet (7/5): Good - Friendly, helpful staff
- Nicholas (7/5): They must change and replace most lightbulbs and air conditioning units. - View amazing. Staff so friendly. Breakfast decent. The dinner was mostly good but portions a little small. They need more variety of flavours in side dishes. More variety of fruit. Coffee really bad. Needs better fruit. Needs more Thai breakfast.
- Aija (9/5): Superb - The rooftop pool is beautiful, probably the best place on the island. Love it!
Very comfortable beds, the best we had in Thailand.
Memorable view from the balcony.
Very clean, rooms were cleaned regularly.
Great location, not in the "centre of attention".
Welcoming stuff! If you are looking for a fancy, brand new place, this might not be the best option. Although kept clean, hotel needs some rennovation (rooms are nice though!).
To be honest, dinner / sunset restaurant in the hotel is below terrible. 🙈😅 Would advice to eat out, even if you have dinner included (what means 1 set of questionable, cold dishes for two persons - many thanks to the restaurant stuff for making this double for us! 💖).
But no worries, there are wonderful places to eat just next doors, called "Light my fire" and especially the next one (!), just before the Thapwarin resort (sorry to forget the name).
Beaches on Koh Ngai have sharp corrals and stones (good for snorkeling, bad for swimming and feet). If you love swimming and perfect sandy beaches, make sure to visit also Ko Kradan nearby. The island itself is more quiet and offers nice relaxation, but also totally beautiful and has nice spots for snorkeling as well!
- Beshlie (1/5): Bad -
- Aki (9/5): Very nice peaceful resort - Peaceful resort, maybe the best at the island. Very friendly and helpful staff. In the recepetion they fulfill your needs with ease, like boat tickets and tours. Very nice pool up with nice view. Good basic breakfast, dinner and from 12 to 3pm food from the pool bar. Good aircon. I would say Cliff Beach was the best resort on the island for my taste and needs. Island has no cars, no roads, no scooters. All the other resorts felt me very crowded and hectic.
For me was little bit unclear, how I get to the resort, but they will bring you and your luggage as close as possible with a boat, depending of the height of the tide. You might get your feet wet anyway. Maybe there is a boat change, maybe not, but everything is well organised by the boat company and the resort..
Stairs there were some, but after couple of days, you don't recognize them anymore. Beach by low tide is not the best, but if you walk 200m by the beach, you will find better spot to swim. Coral reefs looks very ruined everywhere.
Not too much to do at island, but I suggest to make a day tour to nearby islands like Mook and Koh Kradan. Sunset boat tour with a longtail boat is a must ! I walked one day to Paradise Beach, there is a small jungle path, starting behing Tanya Resort in the end of the beach.
Plastic waste from the sea, is a more or less big problem on all islands in Thailand.
Koh Mook was extreme with the waste problem, even it had some character.
- Ingrid (8/5): Amazing but somewhat isollated place - Amazing view. Very clean. Snorkling on the reef is perfect.
Good breakfast. Challenging with so many stairs, no elevator.
When high tide, it is difficult to go to other restaurants and the jungle way not easily accessible.
- Kepner (9/5): Superb - Incredible location! The views from our room and the pool are great. I loved the feeling of seclusion on the island. The facilities in general are a little dated and are probably not up to the standard of some luxury travelers (old bathrooms for example). But we didn't mind given the location. Lots of mosquitoes too
- Kelly (7/5): Comfortable stay but I would eat elsewhere. - The lady at reception was incredible helpful and kind. The room had everything you needed. Comfortable bed. Didn’t feel overlooked. I didn’t think much of the food, it was quite bland, and the set menu wasn’t great. Tried to order off of the paid menu but wasn’t able to for some reason. The drinks weren’t good either. The room had a damp smell.
- David (7/5): Best views ever - Amazing views from the room (ours was quite high up) and pool area A little jaded -could be a fantastic place with some investment. Not the easiest location to access being situated at the top end of the island and several flights of stairs to access rooms - not a negative ut something to be aware of.
- Alejandro (9/5): Superb - The infinity pool, the resort is big and staff very friendly Nothing
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Nice view
Staff helpful
No credit card charges limited snorkeling from the beach
weather
- Nicholas (9/5): This is the review you should read! - WE HAD A WONDERFUL STAY
-----------------------------------------------
Firstly we we welcomed by Fon,who was charming *****and answered all our questions etc,she is a credit to the hotel.
Si ,who looked after us at breakfast and dinner was very attentive and his co workers (who struggled with the english language) but never the less, looked after us always with a 😃 smile, nothing was to much trouble.
The breakfast once again was well adequate.
The room was well adequate and the cleaning staff did a great job 👏
The pool with the view was outstanding 👌 we have never been in such a pool, and we have travelled a lot.*****
It was never a problem to get to our room as the golf cart and driver were always available
All in all we had a restful holiday on this wonderful island 🏝 😀 made by all of the staff bar none.
I have one little tip for the 🏨 hotel:
They should have a sign/poster to advertise the view at the swimming pool this would entice people up there and they will perhaps 😉 spend money on drinks and food.
Thankyou all of the staff
Regards Dorothy and Nicholas. There are always 👎 dislikes ,but we are on an lsland where it is difficult to either supply or renovate.
We found the beach not only by the hotel but basically all along had a lot of plastic etc th
at needed picking up and discarded
If each hotel/bar had one person per day to pick up litter the whole area would be better and safer.☺️😜
- Chris (9/5): Superb - Lovely place and the veiws
- Kristjan (9/5): A million dollar view from the pool and hotel rooms - We were looking for something away from the crowds and that's what we got. The Cliff Beach Resort is the last one on the island's main beach. At high tide it is cut off from other resorts, so few people happen to go there. And there were also few people staying. It was quite a special feeling to have this whole big hotel complex almost completely to ourselves. The main attraction of this hotel is the view. It's the best I've ever seen. This view alone (especially from the hotel's hilltop pool) was worth the price of admission. It's just unreal - the distant cliffs on the horizon - gorgeous at sunset and gorgeous at sunrise.
The hotel was a little run down, but clean and the grounds were pretty well maintained, it had nice traditional design elements inserted here and there. As we understood, it will get some refreshment and renovation before the next season.
The hotel has a breakfast buffet and the lunch is served at the pool - food there was very good.
The staff was friendly, but looked a bit bored due to the lack of visitors. Garbage. We arrived at low tide, so the boat could not drop us off at the hotel's main staircase, but had to do it down the beach. So, the very first thing we saw were mountains of garbage some 50 meters from this luxury hotel's entrance. I have no idea why they don't make an effort to clean this stretch up too, as the rest of the hotel grounds is pretty clean. It really diminsihes the experience and makes you question your right to enjoy this beautiful island.
A peculiar aspect of this hotel is a long-long staircase to reach the upper rooms and the pool with the view. Not recommended to anyone with disabilities. The hotel does not have elevators, but in the worst case it can call up a small golf cart to transport you and your bags up the steep hill.
- Gill (7/5): Good - The view! (Obviously you would need to climb steps to experience this so don't understand the negative reviews about this)
Great pool
Staff were really friendly and helpful
Good air con in the room Not necessarily a dislike but the resort was very quiet.
All of the resort could do with an update, however I am sure the price would be a lot higher if it was refurbished
Breakfast was not very nice
- Tori (7/5): Excellent view! - Location on beach. The view. The pool. Lack of service. At pool no one checked on us or took orders. Posted hours were sometimes correct. Sometimes they would just close early and not let us know at the pool bar
- Pauline (9/5): Superb - Very friendly and helpful staff, very clean, spectacular view over the ocean. The most comfortable beds I had on my whole Thailand trip!
Big room. The cleaning team is extremely thorough. Also fresh towel and a free bottle of water every day. It's right that the hotel is a bit aged, but I liked it though. Breakfast was not fancy, but good and diverse. I liked it that they were friendly and helped you quickly with whatever you needed. They carry the luggage for you from the taxi boat up into your room (and also the other way round).
You can borrow snorkel equipment for free, kajak: every room has 1 hour each day for free. They help you to book transfer to your next island. You can also book a private longtail boat to make tours (max. 5 people per boat). I texted them already before my stay because I had questions about how to get there and they provided me with information. I saw that they have a little golfcart and they drove a man, who was not so mobile, up to his room.
- William (10/5): Amazing - Superb staff, room, views, location. I did not want to leave. Nothing to complain about. I would come back.
- Mathew (9/5): Good place to relax - Amazing views from the rooms and the pool area. Staff were extremely helpful and the food was good and reasonably priced, for the Andaman islands. Free snorkeling gear and kayaks too
We got a deal for $50 a night and it was excellent value at that price WiFi was extremely slow, but that might be the same everywhere on Koh Ngai. You're at the end of the beach so when it's high tide you can't go anywhere, not that there's many places to go
- Pimchanok (9/5): Relax, Quite, Beautiful sand - It is so private and quite. Suitable for relax not so loud. Air conditioning is so old. It take a lot of time to be cool.
There are many steps to go to the beach.
There are only 2 single beds not have Queen size or King Size bedroom
- Mac (7/5): Good hotel - Location, view and pool Bed was quite uncomfortable, breakfast and the food at the restaurant could be better. With those upgrades it would easily be 9 or 10/10
- Tamara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Artur (8/5): Fabulous location! - The pool is the winner by a long shot! It is seldom crowded, there are times you have it to yourself. And you don't need to fight for the loungers.
The restaurant at the pool is fine - good quality food and not really much more expensive than the beach places. What I don't understand is why it opens only 12pm to 4pm, this really doesn't seem logical.
The room is fine, the window/balcony view is gorgeous. The double bed is two mattresses really and a little too soft for my liking. Well, the location of the only sockets in the room is plain absurd.
There are several notices in the room (concerning the safe and the water heater) which no longer apply and are just confusing.
And I've already mentioned the pool restaurant opening hours.
All in all, a wonderful place, but a hit and miss in some regards.
- Dennis (10/5): Room With A View - Nice clean comfortable room ,good breakfast, lovely swimming pool ,good staff with a special mention to the two receptionists Fon and Bow for their friendliness and helpfulness. A lot of steps to the room but worth it for the view.
- Xenia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Julio (9/5): Dated but worth - I will start by saying that I would stay here again.
The pool and it’s views are amazing, it was very quiet, the restaurant had fantastic views and was good value for money, and it is a great spot to snorkel offshore (swim to the end of the long-tail-boat-canal to find the corals).
Things you need to know:
- It is literally the last hotel/resort of the beach. It is quiet.
- It is hard to get there by foot on high tide (don’t even think of walking there with suitcases or backpacks)
- It is DATED (but clean). Really, you cannot imagine it. The rooms need a fresh up. New wardrobes, new bedside tables, new A/C (it went ‘on’ but was not functional as it was too weak), new painting…
- The beach in front has many rocks (just walk 100m to the right :) )
- It has many stairs (it is build on a cliff/hill)
If you can live with the above you will be rewarded with quietness, perfect views, polite and helpful personal, and a sense of relaxation.
Just be sure you catch a good offer on booking.com and pay a price that overweights the cons :)
- Feng (4/5): Disappointing - great view ragged beach & uncomfortable walking path
- Nicholas (9/5): Fantastic Stay (and View!) - The views from the room and the pool area must be the best on the Island. We would stay here again just for that!
It is at one end of the main beach, but you can walk to plenty of nice bars and restaurants and the food at the hotel was very good. Some of the best we've had in Thailand!
The staff were nice and friendly.
The room was big and clean, with a balcony overlooking looking the sea. We spelt very well here.
You can get freshly cooked eggs / omelette for breakfast which was nice. The lady serving was very friendly. Only very minor details, more suggestions to improve than complaints. It would be nice to have hand towels rather than just the main towels. The breakfast had plenty, but we would've loved some cheese to go with the omelette/bread.
- Dominika (10/5): Worth recommending - Amazing view! We had the highest room so going through the stairs was a challenge but worth it! Nice service, clean, great pool, good food. Really worth recommendation. Service helps with luggages which is a big plus here. Everything was great.
- Stephanie (9/5): Superb - The view was awesome. Nice hotel. Staff was very helpful with our baggage. Would love to visit again. Was a little hard to get in when tide is low.
- Aoife (10/5): Exceptional - Very peaceful, the pool has one of the best views we have ever seen. The staff were incredibly helpful. Comfortable rooms. Nothing.
- Sergio (8/5): Very good - Nice Room, great view. Breakfast could be better.
The lack of a clear and enlightened path connecting the island from point to point makes the resort difficult to reach during high tide especially at night when taxi boats are not available.
- Grant (7/5): Fabulous if you are on honeymoon - Pool area was lovely with great views
Beds very comfy food was fantastic Too many steps needs a lift in the future
The beach is non existent at high tide and very rocky take some jelly shoes
- Hindrikson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iain (9/5): Would definitely recommend - Very clean and tidy the view from pool and room was fantastic breakfast was good, free kayaking and snorkeling Wasn’t really a beach but only a five minute walk down the shore also steps up to rooms, but kept us fit
