Guest Reviews
- Roseanna (6/5): A good stay for the night - We loved the location and the fact it was dog friendly I think the fact there is no aircon and the included breakfast was a bit disappointing in terms of choice
- Kate (10/5): Good value and very pleased with everything - Quiet, comfortable , nice breakfast
- David (7/5): -
- Paul (9/5): A well run and presented country inn. Comfortable and welcoming. Food was good too - A generally quiet location in the New Forest with easy access to the ferry at Poole within an hour’s drive. Well maintained and comfortable.
- Jelena (5/5): Massively disappointing - There was no running hot water for 3 days we were there. We complained and were told we would get a refund upon return home for the major inconvenience. When we got home, we were offered £26. Will never stay here again.
- Andrew (7/5): - Location to Southampton as we stayed the night before a cruise.
The breakfast was amazing. The scenery on the doorstep was beautiful too.
- Michael (10/5): Absolutely excellent the staff made everything perfect - Nice clean old property
- mark (10/5): -

- Berni (9/5): Happy Place - Everything. The food is exceptional and the staff are some of the best that I've seen.
The rooms are very comfortable and being dog friendly is the main draw for us. We always have a great stay here. Nothing
- Marc (10/5): - Very comfortable hotel, friendly and helpful staff.
Excellent breakfast with lovely poached eggs expertly cooked.
Nice to get a cafetiere in the room with ground coffee replaced daily.
Great to have quality tea bags too, much appreciated.
- Dorothy (9/5): Little gem of a hotel - We had a lovely stay at the Bell Inn. The staff were welcoming and professional. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable. We had an evening meal which was delicious. Breakfast next day was really good. Young man serving was very friendly and efficient. Thank you for a lovely stay. Only 2 tea bags in room.
- Tim (6/5): OK, needs a refresh, great staff, just sad that it was not what I expected! - The one beer I had was excellent as were the staff; all very happy to help! Everything was clean. The room was tired and dated as was the bathroom. The bed was rather soft and the room was not what I expected, nor what I thought an AA four star would be. Breakfast was good in terms of presentation. However, there seemed to be no real flavour to the food nor the coffee.
- Manuela (6/5): Kurz zum Übernachten okay - War okay Hunde, große Hunde müssen nicht!! im Frühstücks Raum sein. 4 Stück, Wahnsinn.
- Colin (9/5): -
- Jessica (8/5): Great value option - Super easy check in and the rooms are all ground floor, suited our late arrival. Friendly staff and everything we needed for our stay. The beds could have been more comfortable - particularly the hard pillows.
- Robert (5/5): - Nice rooms friendly staff. Restaurant average
- Neil (8/5): -
- Vincent (10/5): - Location Staff and cleanliness Golf clubs!!!!!!!

- Neil (8/5): Nice place to stay - Great hotel, Very expensive breakfast.
- Anthony (8/5): - Friendly staff Food price
- William Watkins (10/5): -
- Paul (9/5): Great value overnight stay - Great location, good room, excellent food and overall good value for money Nothing
- JR (7/5): Ok for a night - spacious room, clean, staff at breakfast friendly reception on arrival friendly but after that did not look up or greet when passing by. reserved table for restaurant (bar area) but table not available at reserved time ( nor after 10min wait(. waitress said that it was because wr resreved late -?? then they should not have made the reservation. room nice enough but not that special for the price.

- Ros (9/5): Excellent location with superb decor and good - Great location. Lovely decor and rooms.
Delicious food. Long wait to be served for evening meal - over 20 minutes after being seated and then I had to find someone to serve me. The food service staff seemed inexperienced and not one of them checked whether my food was okay or if I needed another drink or if I had allergies. As an Hotel Management Consultant and Staff Assessor I found this disappointing but these issues could be easily rectified with more training
- Joanne (8/5): A nice stay but could have been better - The room was very clean with nice toiletries and a huge tv. The breakfast was a bit hit and miss. The first morning I had smoked salmon with scrambled egg on toast. The toast was cold, the eggs overdone and instead of a slice or 2 of salmon it was tiny diced bits throughout the scrambled egg. Bit disappointing. The next morning I had full English. Again the toast was cold and clearly not being toasted fresh to order. The bacon was very over done. The rest on the plate was ok. The last morning I chose eggs benedict which was lovely.
We had dinner on Easter Sunday which was very tasty but could have been presented a bit nicer on the plate. I asked for mustard to go with the roast beef to which I was told sorry we have run out. We were told the lamb had sold out which was understandable as we were eating at 7pm but then half an hour later the table behind us were offered lamb! However the couldn’t get mint sauce as that had run out as well!
Overall it was a nice stay but it felt a bit disorganised Breakfast felt a bit disorganised. It didn’t seem like there was enough staff. Tables were left dirty for quite sometime.
- Christopher (4/5): All the food produce was the cheapest possible. - Facilities were fine The food was dreadful. None homemade. All of it was adequate but totally tasteless. Clearly microwave, pre cooked, tin soup. Tinned fruit crumble. Even charged extra £3 for ice cream with crumble and custard, making that cost £11.50 each and the crumble had no taste. Breakfast was cheap juice, cheap non fresh croissant. Pre made salmon and egg mix and cheapest bacon I’ve ever had.
- Karen (10/5): - Location was great & lovely decor.

- Amanda (8/5): A beautiful get away in the New Forest - Nestled in the charming hamlet of Bramshaw, The Bell Inn is perfectly located for exploring the New Forest. It’s ideal for scenic walks, golfing (for those who enjoy it), and visiting nearby villages and attractions. The coast is also within easy reach—around 40 minutes away, depending on traffic.
Although the hotel sits on a main road with a steady flow of traffic during the day, we found it to be nothing too disruptive for the time of year. A real highlight was seeing horses and donkeys roaming freely nearby, which added a lovely, quintessential New Forest touch—especially when enjoying breakfast or an evening meal.
The hotel benefits from a large garden with a selection of complimentary outdoor games, as well as a spacious car park to the rear, shared with the golf club. Dedicated hotel spaces are clearly marked, and even over the busy Easter weekend, we had no trouble finding parking.
Inside, the hotel offers a blend of modern and cosy rooms, with a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout. Dining is available in both the bar and restaurant, with a menu featuring a good selection of local fare. We found the food to be delicious and very well prepared—booking is definitely recommended during busier periods.
Above all, the young team working during our stay truly stood out. Despite it being a particularly busy weekend, they were attentive, polite, and incredibly hardworking. It was refreshing to experience such genuine hospitality, and they played a big part in making our stay so enjoyable. While we had a wonderful stay overall, there were a few areas where we felt improvements could be made.
The shower in our cosy room unfortunately wasn’t working, so we were moved to a modern deluxe room. While the new room was lovely, we did feel the original cosy room had more charm and character.
On Good Friday, the bar and restaurant were extremely busy. The team worked hard, but it felt like they could have benefited from an extra pair of hands—particularly with having someone consistently behind the bar. That said, our meal was absolutely worth the wait.
It looked as though the hotel has undergone some recent renovations, but a few finishing touches were missing in our room. For example, previously drilled holes in the bathroom hadn’t been filled, and some touch-up paint didn’t quite match the surrounding walls. The pillows were also quite firm for my liking, although I didn’t ask if alternatives were available, which in hindsight I perhaps should have done.
The bedroom lighting felt a little unusual. For a large room, the main lighting consisted of multiple cool white spotlights, which made the space feel quite clinical when fully lit. There was only one bedside lamp (with a slightly wobbly shade) and a large floor-standing spotlight, which didn’t quite provide the softer, ambient lighting you’d expect. It was a shame, as the furnishings themselves were modern and stylish, but these small details made the room feel slightly unfinished.
Lastly, the wooden windows didn’t provide much sound insulation, and a few didn’t close properly.
That said, these points are relatively minor and didn’t take away from what was genuinely a lovely stay. We share them simply as constructive feedback, as this is a beautiful four-star hotel with great potential to be even better.
- Debbie (10/5): - Very clean, high quality products used in the bathroom and bedroom Nothing
- Anna (5/5): -
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional hotel and staff - We had a lovely time at the Bell inn. The room was as described cozy and well equipped. The staff was very welcoming and professional and was on hand for everything we needed. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. Nothing
- Peter (10/5): - Everything! Nothing
- John (9/5): Excellent short break, just what we had hoped for. - Staff very helpful.
Evening meal was good.
Breakfast - plenty of choice for hot food, which was cooked well and brought to the table rather than buffet style which we prefer.
Room was lovely, spacious with excellent en suite. It faced the golf course so was quiet at night. The pillows could have been better.
- claire (8/5): Lovely, comfortable hotel and such a good location for exploring the New Forest and the coast. - Lovely location, quiet but easily accessible for main roads and towns as well. Easy parking and with good food in the pub, restaurant you can happily park up and enjoy a glass of wine with your dinner. Staff at breakfast are not attentive enough. They are very pleasant but they are slow to clear tables and be available if you want another drink or a food request. People arrived at breakfast and sat amongst dirty plates.
- Stephen (9/5): -
- Helen (8/5): Lovely old hotel with comfortable rooms and good food. - Lovely old hotel-very comfortable rooms with good food. Hot water wasn't working but we were compensated for this which was lovely.
- Amanda (8/5): Overnight stay - It had real character, clean and a good location. Lovely food Bed was uncomfortable, pillows abit hard.
- Jane (8/5): Comfortable place to stay in a good location; friendly and helpful staff; good breakfast. - Comfortable clean room, very friendly and helpful staff, great location for exploring the New Forest, decent breakfast. Good value for money. The shower was very basic and the shower head was partially blocked so very little water pressure.
- Tina (8/5): - Friendly welcome, clean and comfortable room
- andy (6/5): Disappointing - Breakfast was good, staff lovely and a very comfy bed! Despite booking a superior room in a supposedly 4 star hotel the shower was very poor with little or no pressure, despite complaining the first night and being told it would be rectified for the following 2 nights of our stay, which it never was. In the end we just put up with it.
- Amanda (8/5): - The comfortable bed and spacious bedroom
- Leigh (9/5): - Great place and exceptional staff.
- Susan (9/5): A lovely break in the New Forest with excellent accommodation - Room was lovely and food was excellent My husband couldn’t make the hot tap work in the shower
- Penny (10/5): Our room was clean and comfortable. Small extra like fresh coffee cafetière in the room was a nice touch. - Convenient location. Quiet and comfortable room Nothing
- chris (7/5): -
- Simon (4/5): No hot water for us or other guests & staff didn’t seem bothered. - Good location with lovely pub opposite No hot water for shower & radiator and towel rail cold.
- Robin (9/5): - Staff were really helpful. Accommodation clean and our bridal suite room was large and comfortable. Even a little cafeteria was present. Bar/ restaurant staff most pleasant and
helpful. The breakfast for £19.95 was not quite the standard we were expecting for that price.
- Serena (9/5): Fabulous - Lovely comfortable and quiet room.
- Martyn74 (5/5): - Price of room £77 for b&b small double. Dinner... When I checked in c6pm I asked if I needed to book a table was advised no need and food last orders at 8.30pm. Arrived for dinner at 7.30pm to be told kitchen closed and chef will only make sandwiches after some push back was offered a burger or linguine, only management was the chef. So declined as totally unacceptable to be treated in this manner. Thankfully the Green Dragon Inn opposite the Bell was welcoming and served some great food in a lovely pub setting with friendly staff. This I should point out was also where other guests resorted to dine who were on a dinner b&b rate!
When the issue was reported I. the morning it was noted, but no apology or forthcoming conversation by any member of management.
To top off matters the £20 breakfast which offered Eggs Royale sadly didn't meet expectations due to the over cooked poached eggs that had to be sent back. Thankfully, the waiter was excellent and dealt with matters swiftly.
To note Room.10 small double, don't book if you want a room with a view although it may explain why the Tv dominates the room.
- Nic (9/5): Nice room, except for the view. Beautifully clean, well appointed and super-comfy bed. - Cleanliness; friendly, attentive staff; location. Variety of ales on the bar; menu rather restricted.
- Denise (6/5): - Room average. Breakfast poor. Restaurant okay but expensive
Room not serviced at all.
- Jasmine (9/5): -
- John (10/5): Staff fantastic - Everything! Couldn’t fault it
- Carolyn (10/5): Lovely hotel and great Breakfast. - Very welcoming, and cosy. Only down side could hear dogs barking late in evening.
- Tim (7/5): Great facilities and well looked after by all the staff we met. - Staff super helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the eve meal and breakfast …can’t fault. Room was fine but we were located on top floor on the road side and was a little noisy 6.30 onward with cars and birds walking around on the roof I assume ..no chance of a lie in so would ask for a room not that side next time.
- Lynne (8/5): -
- KATHLEEN (9/5): Enjoayable, great service and staff greeted with a smaile and were helpfull. - I didn't have the breakfast but on previous occasions they have been excellent, I find the hotel is brilliantly placed for work and when Im playing golf in the area. Nothing all was good.
- Debbie (9/5): -
- Tania (4/5): -
- Stephen (7/5): Lovely hotel and room. Let down by our breakfast. - A nice big room, big TV, comfortable bed and good sized en-suite. Clean too. Not a four star breakfast. Streaky bacon, not back bacon and supermarket cheap bread/toast.
- LES (10/5): -
- Nasreen (7/5): -
- 1979dtp (8/5): The Bell Inn - Friendly, helpful staff. Good location. Not a lot of atmosphere in the bar. Bathroom shower screen wasn't large enough, so a wet floor after showering.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Jonny (10/5): - food. location nothing
- ben (9/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Richard (9/5): Very comfy, pleasant night - Comfy bed, big room, up-to-date shower room, yummy breakfast, cafetiere available in the room, nice coffee. We hope you'll make something of the beer garden in the summer, it's just a patio, more like the smoking area.
- Charlotte (6/5): Would return but a few touches need addressing - The pub itself is lovely . Perfect location for the forest. Our room was very spacious. Bed was huge and very comfy. Spotless clean . Breakfast food was outstanding quality and taste . We got a good price. Complimentary toiletries not as advertised online - pictures need updating. Tea and coffee facilities were very basic for a superior room. The water was tap water in a large bottle , not actual bottled water . Water pressure very low in shower and took forever to warm up. Dirty bowls at breakfast.
- Tony (9/5): -
- Gary (10/5): We both really enjoy our stay at the Bell Inn Hotel. - The breakfast and evening could not have been better, all of the staff were loveley our room was nice and spacious with a large tv.
- Graham (5/5): Not up to its usual standard - The room was pleasant and clean.. The breakfast staff were great and food was excellent Night staff were terrible.....there seemed to be only one staff member working. We waited quite a while to be checked in. After being shown to our room we decided to go to the restaurant for a meal.
It wasn't busy. We sat at a table and waited..After a while I went and asked for a menu. The staff member said he would be over. We waited for about 35 minutes....not even a drink order taken....He seemed to be more interested in a table of people in the bar.
When he did eventually come over to the restaurant, he started taking an order from a table who had been in for about 5 minutes!!.
At that point we decided to leave. The staff member then followed us into the carpark to try and apologize. ...not very professional
we went to the pub across the road where we had a lovely meal.
We have visited on a few occasions and have always had a good experience.....but not this time
- Cécile (8/5): - Chambre très spacieuse et agréable. La literie pourrait être améliorée, des rideaux davantage occultant serait un plus.
- Susan (8/5): -
- Lottie (10/5): Easy, relaxing stay! With lovely food and staff. - Great location, staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Ample amounts of parking. Food was lovely and great quality. Dog treats and pack in the room was a fab addition.
- Janette (8/5): Lovely weeekend, would stay again but choose specific room - Good location, lovely ambience , spotless, good food, very welcoming and attentive staff Booked a standard room because we had our dog with us, but it was tiny ( room 3) should have been a small double/cosy. Other standard rooms were bigger for same price.
- Liliana (5/5): The place lacks atmosphere and whilst a great location a pretty poor experience. - Location, streaming services, breakfast was adapted as I am vegan (fresh avacado/sourdough was delicious) thank you Ordered a half portion of gnocchi with side of veg - it was not fresh gnocchi so I left half. The bill was £27, when challenged they said they don’t do half portions and I must pay full price. Eventually they unhappily took payment for a half portion.
Bath plug was faulty (didn’t retain water) mattresses were sunken and pillows too hard. Small shower also didn’t work. Glass was stuck to the tray - either sticky cleaning products or glass not been refreshed for some time.
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Kristyna (10/5): - Spacious and warm room, nice dinner, great breakfast. Ma
- DCrann (9/5): Great location for my trip, if i had my golf clubs would have been superb! - Location was great, bed was super comfortable.
Spacious room
Breakfast looked amazing although I only had a light breakfast. Near golf course which looked decent Hard to add to this point. The best I can come up with was the fire door between bedroom and ensuite.
Hardly a complaint!
- Andrew (8/5): excellent service - Breakfast was good and a fair price. Service at every point was very good.
- Robert (10/5): Good location and clean rooms - Good location N/A
- Jade (10/5): -
- matthew (4/5): Staff are so friendly and happy to help even when under a lot of pressure - We have stayed at this venue before and the breakfast was great, on this last stay it was very disappointing, very understaffed, poor quality products We had a wonderful stay the previous New Year, this New Year, we decided to stay in a dulux room, the bed was terrible, just 2 single beds pushed together, the bar and restaurant was so short staffed it made you feel like you didn't want to ask for a drink or food. The New Year Gala was advertised as 5 courses, it was only 3. and the quality was no where near as good as the year before. I just felt like it had gone down hill.
- Nicola (10/5): -
- Julia (6/5): Food fab staff fab clean but beds need improvement - Lovely vibe nice atmosphere great food The beds were so uncomfortable and lumpy we woke every 2 hours so not best sleep
- Shaun (9/5): Nice place , good food, nice staff, -
- Mark (8/5): Nice hotel, would definitely stay there again - Gluten Free Breakfast was very tasty, cooked to order. Floorboards in room were very squeaky but the room itself was very nice
- Ellie (7/5): While the room itself fell short of expectations, the hotel’s dog-friendly approach, standout staff, excellent food, and - • Dog-friendly atmosphere: The hotel was welcoming and accommodating for pets, which made our stay much easier and more comfortable.
• Spacious room: Helpful for traveling with our dog, even if the decor was lacking.
• Welcoming staff: Everyone was polite and friendly. Special mention to Jess, who impressively managed multiple roles one evening with grace and great service.
• Delicious food: The menu was varied and high-quality, served in a cosy, autumnal setting.
• Ideal location: Perfect base for exploring the New Forest, with charming touches like roaming donkeys visible from the restaurant. • Room quality: The Deluxe room didn’t match the online photos or price point. Paint was chipped, furnishings were outdated and mismatched, and there was no headboard for comfort.
• Disappointing view: Despite booking a room with a view, ours overlooked the car park.
• Overall value: The standard of the room didn’t justify the cost.
