- Fiona (9/5): - our pool villa was stunning and although quite far from the lobby area staff were very attentive. I had a massage in the spa and that was perfect, with an experienced, lovely masseuse. the food was excellent. Everything we ate was delicious, breakfast lunch and dinner!
- Nicole Sophie (10/5): Understated luxury in a gorgeous setting - The villa is a work of art in itself. Gorgeous ambiance.
The staff is very kind and attentive , truly 5 star feel.
The decor is very tasteful without feeling in your face, more like quiet luxury and truly another league ( Aman feel ) .
We loved the personal introduction tour given at check in and the ability of the staff to accommodate our requests and even being able to organize a Muai Thai experience for us and recommending other lovely activities.
Unbeatable charm of staying in traditional Thai houses imported from the center of the country. The only downside I can mention:
I was cold in the room ( no heating ) and it was 12 degrees at night in January.
The airport is not too far so you will hear the planes.

- Sebastien (7/5): - Tout. Établissement d’exception Le bruit des avions
- Vincent (9/5): Fantastic value for money with great staff and location. The room was amazing but could do with some soundproofing. - The aesthetic, staff and location were fantastic The spa facilities were limited and, although it was to be expected, the noise was at times hard to cope with.

- Heather (10/5): Amazing. Would absolutely go back 10/10 - Service was amazing. Some of the best we have ever had . Beautiful and so peaceful. Great location Nothing
- Goetz (10/5): Bucket list!!! - Alles!

- Aron (10/5): - Amazing place built by bringing together 20+ traditional teak houses from around Thailand. Mixed with antiques and modern art. Really special and still very comfortable.
- Thitikorn (10/5): Our stay was a peaceful, heartfelt escape that left us refreshed in every way - We were looking for a hotel where we could simply stay put, rest fully, and not feel the need to leave, and Villa Mahabhirom turned out to be exactly that.
It felt like a true escape from busy life, a quiet corner of Chiang Mai where time slows the moment you enter the old teak house aged over 120 years and you can still smell the wood as you settle into the room. Our one-bedroom villa with a private pool felt wonderfully private, with a cosy lounge area downstairs where we spent hours reading and relaxing after swims. The whole property carries this romantic, luxurious sense of Thainess that doesn’t feel staged or exaggerated.
We had breakfast both in our villa and in the common area, and tried lunch and dinner at the hotel as well; the food was genuinely delicious, proper Thai flavours: well balanced, and spiciness never overwhelming. A lovely surprise was being able to try the afternoon tea in the library/tea room area before it officially launched, overlooking the pool on a sunny day; the chef blended Western and Thai touches so naturally, with really good scones and homemade jams.
We also booked a 60-minute Thai massage, which honestly became the best one I’ve had in years of living abroad. And throughout the stay, the staff made everything feel effortless; they were kind, smiling, never intrusive, yet somehow always appeared right when we needed something. It’s rare to find a place where the setting, food, and people come together so seamlessly, but this trip felt exactly like the full rest we were hoping for. There isn’t much to dislike about the property, but if I had to mention a few things, it would be that aside from the spa, the pool, the delicious food, and simply wandering the beautiful grounds, there aren’t many additional activities within the hotel itself. Though I’m sure the staff would happily arrange something if you asked. Wat Umong, the forest-tunnel temple, is very close by and worth a short visit, especially since it’s one of the seven temples Chiang Mai plans to submit for UNESCO World Heritage status.
Another small point is that the hotel sits within the flight path, just like most places on the west side of central Chiang Mai, but with how peaceful the environment is, it didn’t really affect our stay; if anything, it was the only tiny reminder that we were still part of the outside world, and the flights weren’t frequent enough to matter.
Lastly, the bar also closes relatively early with the last order at around 9:30 PM, and the in-room bar is quite limited. With Thailand’s alcohol sale restrictions on top of that, it’s worth planning your drinks in advance if you enjoy a late-night sip.
Overall, these are very minor observations, and we truly loved our stay, an easy 5/5 stars from us.
- Chu Cheng (10/5): -
- Chinedu (10/5): - A Sanctuary of Soulful Luxury:
Villa Mahabhirom is Beyond Comparison
Villa Mahabhirom is not merely a hotel; it is an immersive experience, a living museum of exquisite taste and tranquility. From the moment you step onto the grounds, you are transported to a realm where aesthetic, tradition, and heritage are meticulously intertwined with absolute luxury. The collection of lovingly restored, century-old teak villas (ruean Thai), transplanted and reassembled from Central Thailand, provides a stunning backdrop, each structure a testament to the sophistication of classic Thai architecture. The interiors are a masterclass in design, seamlessly blending magnificent antiques and historical sculptures with chic, mid-century modern furnishings and opulent Italian marble bathrooms. This is luxury with soul, a rare and beautiful homage to the past that feels utterly contemporary. The attention to detail, from the tasteful art and ornaments to the high-end touches, ensures every visual and tactile experience is nothing short of perfection.
What truly elevates a stay here, however, is the exceedingly rare and exceptional service. In an industry that often confuses formality with quality, Villa Mahabhirom stands out. The service is warm, welcoming, and genuinely intuitive, delivered with the grace of true hospitality, yet completely devoid of pretense. It feels less like a hotel and more like being a highly cherished guest in a magnificent private homestead. The staff's readiness of service is remarkable, anticipating needs before they are voiced, but always with a considered, non-intrusive presence.
The grounds themselves are a masterpiece. The pristine gardens are a verdant, tranquil botanical sanctuary, providing an atmosphere of profound calmness that is both restorative, raw and enchanting. The pool acts as a serene focal point, inviting peaceful repose. Soft, low lighting in the lounge/hallway space for those late night visits to the bathroom wouldn't go amiss. Otherwise, truly and honestly faultless.
- Sally (10/5): Beautiful heritage hotel, wonderful staff and in a great location. A real oasis and treat! - Beautiful heritage hotel, wonderful staff and in a great area just out of the city to explore temples and forest. Delicious food and well equipped rooms and pool.
- SHU CHIN (8/5): -
- david (10/5): A wonderful experience and so comfortable and beautifully designed. - Perfect design and ambience with a wonderful calmness Nothing , except the poolside furniture was a little uncomfortable
- Arushi (8/5): A very local and luxe experience! - Such a beautiful property that gives you a great feel of Chiang Mai Culture. They had a deer on their property that was such a pleasant surprise! The main attraction to me was the restaurant. We thought it was the best food we had eaten in Chiang Mai which is saying something.... The Spa was also amazing. Overall i would highly recommend this place. Not far from airport so you do hear the planes go by every once and a while but its tucked in a really beautiful/ green and quaint neighborhood. Easy access to Uber's which are pretty cheap. Cute cafes and galleries walking distance from the hotel. A very local and luxe experience! The hostess was like a friend, always checking in on us and helping us with our plans. We felt very taken care of!
- JOANNA (10/5): Excellent staff, beautiful property! - A gem tucked away off a side street, you'd never guess such a beautiful estate exists right off the street. We stayed in a villa for 3N. The property is beautifully styled and outfitted. You can see a bit of wear throughout, and it could use a refresh. The staff were very attentive, knew you by name and extremely kind and helpful. Overall a fantastic stay, well located to everything with a short taxi ride. No issues about the overhead plane noise as others mentioned, yes you can hear planes but it's not often in the evening and for a short period of time. The roof leaked in the main foyer, not a huge deal that a towel couldn't clean up. Bedroom is a bit humid, and lighting could be brighter/warmer.
- satoshi (9/5): -
- Rolf (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, nice staff nothing
- Srayut (3/5): Never Again - Beautiful exterior. Uncomfortable interior Staff kindness (only when they pay attention or be able to to pay attention due to super limited staff)
- Ankita (9/5): Superb -
- vishalbhatia85 (10/5): Lovely little authentic Thai boutique hotel! - Lovely boutique hotel situated 5-10mins from the centre, this hotel has been converted from old thai homes and is gorgeous!
We had a villa with a private pool, the staff are so nice and pleasant, we got breakfast to our room every morning!
The facilities are really nice and it is located very close to Ban Pong Noi, where there is a lovely artist market - be sure to visit!
- Ellie (10/5): Perfect getaway for a refreshing weekend away - The hotel is really unique and a real gem hidden just off the road. It’s beautifully decorated and the landscaping makes it feel like a real oasis. All the staff were excellent. We just came for one night and I’ve never felt so instantly refreshed- the perfect quick get away. The pool is lovely and very quiet and the room was super comfy but with all the character still from being in a traditional Thai house. On arrival they had even ran a lovely bath with rose petals and arranged a special desert and candle without me even asking for my boyfriend’s birthday. Nothing I can fault. The location is a little out of old town but still an easy drive and cheap using grab.
- Adrian (10/5): One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at - The installations are absolutely gorgeous! It feels like stepping back in time! My best way to describe it would be that I felt I was staying in a museum- with modern commodities beautifully integrated for absolute comfort! Personnel was super nice, drinks were great, everything was amazing
- Ravipa (10/5): Exceptional -
- WahooFan1987 (10/5): A Hidden Gem in Chiang Mai – Villa Mahabhirom is Pure Magic! - Villa Mahabhirom is an absolute masterpiece—every corner of this property is filled with exquisite sculptures and intricate designs, making you feel as if you've stepped into a living museum. From the beautifully preserved 100-year-old Thai houses to the thoughtfully curated antiques, the atmosphere is both elegant and deeply cultural.
Beyond its breathtaking aesthetics, the service here is truly exceptional. The staff—including the gracious front-desk team, the attentive dining staff, and the wonderful bartender—go above and beyond to ensure every moment of your stay is perfect. Their warm hospitality and personalized attention added so much to our experience. A special shout-out to Natthaphong for his outstanding service—he not only helped secure our reservation and plan our activities months in advance but also continued to ensure every detail of our stay was seamless. His warmth, professionalism, and deep knowledge made a world of difference.
And then there’s the food—simply wow! Every meal was a delight, featuring fresh, flavorful ingredients, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented. Each dish was crafted with remarkable care and attention to detail, truly elevating the dining experience.
Some reviewers have noted that the property's proximity to the airport can lead to occasional flight noise. While this is a valid consideration, it wouldn’t deter me from experiencing this extraordinary place—especially if you prioritize art, design, and an atmosphere of cultural richness.
If you're looking for a unique, luxurious, and artistic retreat in Chiang Mai, Villa Mahabhirom is an absolute must. I can't wait to return!
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic traditional architecture combined with a luxurious design. Calm and relaxing atmosphere and top service.
- Stephanie (10/5): One of the best customer service experiences. - Outstanding. So worth it!!!!! I didn’t mind the planes - I know others did but it quieted down for bed.
- Cabiria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zihan (10/5): Exceptional - The garden is beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, and offers a unique experience. The service is excellent, and there’s plenty to explore. Takes really long time to get a taxi at night
- Mary (10/5): An homage to traditional Thai values both in art and hospitality. We absolutely loved our stay. - The property is exquisite. We particularly liked the way they blended the antique and the modern; mixing cultures: some of the sculptures were Italian in feel yet stood peacefully in a Thai-scaped garden. The pool was as much a tonic just looking at it as it was diving into it. Villa Mahabhirom is a special place. A stone's throw from Wat Umong where we went each morning for quiet walks. At first we were rather alarmed being so close to the airport but because the property is overwhelming tranquil -- so much attention has been given to making it beautiful -- we hardly noticed the noise once we adjusted to it.
- Aripadron (10/5): Amazing Stay in Chiang Mai! - Amazing stay, the villa is stunning. We had a good night’s sleep, but the true heart of the villa is their front desk staff: Eye, Driver, and Yaya were amazing and helped us with everything. They made us feel at home.
They offer happy hour in their bar, and Panit the bartender was great. He served delicious drinks and even taught us some Thai words.
Don’t forget to buy a Doi Doi; they are the cutest elephants and a forever memory of Chiang Mai.
We read some bad reviews about the planes flying and not letting you sleep. But to be honest, it is only during the day; after 9-10pm they stopped, and we were able to sleep.
- Jennifer (10/5): Perfect in every way - Everything was perfect Couldn’t fault the hotel or staff
- Chinyun (10/5): Exceptional - Villa Mahabhirom is definitely one of my best memories in Chiang Mai. The entire hotel reflects an outstanding sense of hospitality, and the staff truly embody the spirit of Thailand. For example, the choice of Chiang Mai-sourced chocolates and locally made shampoo highlights their thoughtful attention to detail. Every aspect of the hotel makes you feel welcomed and cared for.
- Christian (10/5): Very rustic place. The whole resort was like a museum with old art work collected from all over. - The staff made me home while I was in the their resort. Able to hear a little vehicular activity and the swimming pool is only 1.2 meters
- Shanie (10/5): A gorgeous stay in a gorgeous property, outstanding service and food. The perfect place to stay in chiang mai - The property is stunning, the villas feel exceptionally private, the quality of everything is fabulous! Our private pool villa was perfect. It’s a bit out of the way from central chiang mai (not an issue for us) and the old villas can get quite warm even with the air conditioning on.
- Youssef (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yu (10/5): Exceptional - All staff is amazing
- Nam (10/5): Wonderful stay for lantern festival - Wonderful staff, great breakfast, awesome pool, love the traditional Thai home architecture Next to airport and I can hear the planes taking off and landing
- xv_12 (4/5): The noisiest hotel in more than 50 years of worl travel. - The hotel consists of an incredibly charming assembly of old wooden Thai houses, dismantled in their region of origin and rebuilt here to welcome clients. Each house is a separate lodging and is full of charm with all modern day amenities like air conditioning. We found the room clean, comfortable and well equipped. The gardens and the swimming pool are superb.
The lady at the reception was absolutely charming and helpful, and was really sorry for what I am going to describe next. The other staff were extremely helpful and friendly as well.
We were booked for three nights, but only managed to sit/lie through a single one. The reason is that the hotel, however nicely built, lies smack in the pathways of airplanes landing and taking off from the international airport. The noise was horrendous. We did not fear for our lives, but almost.
I really do question the mental sanity of the originators of this project who built what should have been a charming hotel next to a very busy airport. Why would anybody book a boutique hotel if it is almost impossible to get a good night`s sleep there. The last plane landed or took off close to midnight, the frequency, starting at six in the morning, was about 9 planes an hour.
Conclusion: 10 for trial, zero for results
Unless you love airplanes at close ranges, I definitely would not recommend staying here. It is also a huge mistake by our travel age who had assured us they had personally experienced every hotel they proposed us, which was not true and dented their reputation imho.
- Cocksy (10/5): Heavenly. The staff were wonderful.there was a deer wandering around in the gardens - It was fabulous. Real villas that had been moved there from all over Thailand to create a mini village. Beautifully appointed with lovely bathrooms and very comfortable bed. Lots of amazing antiques from Asia and Europe scattered about the place. Nothing
- mingtings (2/5): Villa Mahabhirom is easily the worst hotel I’ve stayed - Villa Mahabhirom is easily the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in recent times. The photos look great, but once you pay a hefty price and step into the room, you'll realize how awful this place truly is. I stayed in two different room types, and both had showers filled with black mold, which was utterly disgusting. The water glasses smelled horrendous, like they were coated with the greasy scent of old hair. If it rains heavily, there’s a high chance your room will leak. My bathroom did, and I nearly slipped and injured myself in this hotel full of creepy human head sculptures.
If you manage to avoid getting sick from the mold in the bathroom or survive drinking water from the disgusting cups, congratulations. But you certainly won’t escape the constant noise of airplanes flying overhead. If you're looking for a quiet vacation, sleeping on the side of a highway might be a better choice. The air conditioning is terrible too, with three different temperatures across three different areas of the room. If you don’t catch a cold, your body must be in top shape—this place is the ultimate test of your health.
If you make it through checkout, you’ve proven you can survive in the dirtiest of environments. When you file a complaint, the management will ask, "Why didn’t you report it during your stay?" Excuse me, but am I here to vacation or act as your hygiene inspector?
There are plenty of options in Chiang Mai, but if you want to pay a premium to stay in a filthy hotel, Villa Mahabhirom should be at the top of your list.

- Woojae (10/5): Exceptional - Such a nice place to expericence traditional Thai style. Kind service makes customers enjoy comfortable vacation.
Also lets customers take a shower before their flight. None.
- Samuel (10/5): Unbelievably special. - One of the most special places I have ever stayed. The photos and everything online genuinely don't do it justice. Pure idyll, and the people working here are also just amazing - so nice, friendly, helpful, welcoming and try their best to make it a special stay. Nothing. Truly exceptional all round.
- G6048VBmartinz (10/5): Amazing! - I would rate this Villa an 8 out of 5, if I could. Staff was amazing, service outstanding, the rooms were 120 old houses, remodeled up to today standards. They felt very Thai authentic! The pool was simple, but very Zen and especially at night with the dozens of red lanterns lit up, very zen/ romantic. Breakfast in the mornings was very good. Dinner and cocktails were great.

- neatfreak08 (10/5): Beautiful Stay - Super close to Chiang Mai International Airport, Villa Mahabhirom emerges as an oasis of tranquility and opulence. This hotel embodies the essence of luxury, and Thai heritage, blending traditional architecture with modern amenities.
Our spacious suite was adorned with intricate Thai-inspired décor, teakwood furnishings, beautiful fabrics, and artwork.
The hotel has wonderful restaurants, a lovely, serene spa for relaxation and rejuvenation, a stunning outdoor pool, as well as a library stocked with a curated collection of books.
The service was impeccable and in an idyllic setting, Villa Mahabhirom - Chiang Mai offers a truly unforgettable luxury experience.
- Sunny (8/5): Beautiful hotel with great staff. Better hot water system would make it perfect stay. - Great staff. Architecture, design & trees are excellent Hot water not working properly
- Cody (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kwankaow (9/5): Superb -
- Sara (10/5): Truly exceptional - Most beautiful hotel in Chiang Mai. I live in Thailand and have traveled around the country quite a bit. This is one of the most beautiful hotels. Each room is a traditional Thai teak house, with stunning gardens and common spaces, and a beautiful pool. The staff is the most attentive. The breakfast is a la carte, very good quality ingredients. The location is perfect if you drive. Quiet and secluded.
- Michael (9/5): Wonderful stay in a gorgeous retreat outside of the old city - Location is a bit outside of the city, which is ideal if that's what you're looking for. We took Grab motorcycles to get around which was super easy and we enjoyed. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous - more so than the photos even suggest, with plenty of spaces to enjoy and chill out. Especially on a hot day with lots of people in Chiang Mai, it felt like a peaceful retreat to come back here and enjoy the gorgeous pool area, gardens and beautiful sitting spaces. We would absolutely stay again. Rooms are historic houses, but for that reason they are quite dark with few windows. Not a major issue but something to be aware of. What we did not like was the harsh lighting in the room/bathroom. It felt like cafeteria lighting.
The front desk staff were helpful. The biggest area to improve is the the restaurant/food service staff for this level of hotel. They are not proactive and English is not spoken: inexplicable misunderstandings were frequent (saying the quantity and holding the number of fingers - "two" - and pointing to a menu item still resulted in the wrong orders coming out on multiple occasions). Forget about deviating at all from the menu for a preference. Staff does not come to the pool regularly, which means you need to get up for refreshments. Dishes, empty glasses and such were left for hours by the pool - more could be done proactively to clean up and maintain the beautiful appearance of the property. Breakfast could have more variety (more tasty fruit like mango instead of unripe melon).
- Arnaud (7/5): more a guesthouse than a luxury hotel - the vibe and the decor the noise and the value isn’t good

- Anonymous (10/5): The property provided a first class experience from the moment we arrived in the driveway. From the staff to the ambianc - Through booking.com I loved everything about this property. If I had to choose what I didn’t like I would say the noise from the planes a few times a day however this was such a minute detail. I barely noticed the sound at all.
- Tapiokalai (10/5): Very serene and chilled experience. - 1.The whole environment is extremely classic which is full of art crafts.
2.Staff were warm and friendly and they helped us before we asked for.
3.Vietnamese cuisine dinner was tasty.
4.Not so many visitors and it is quiet. 1.Hot water is not sustainable which was needed to wait around 20mins to boil.
2.Each area such as living room, bath space, bedroom is separated and need to walk around.
3.Close to streets and may be a little be noisy.
- Tamasine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pascal (10/5): Perfect Stay - It was just a perfect stay! Very lovely rooms and fantastic, extremely friendly service. Nothing worth mentioning
- Ryan (6/5): Beautiful, stylish hotel, terrible nights sleep. - Staff are so friendly and amazing. The hotel surroundings are beautiful and the old villa style rooms look great.
We didn’t have long for breakfast due to a 9am flight, but what we had was great. Lovely Vietnamese coffee. The villa style rooms look fantastic but are not practical at all. The noise from the nearby airport is deafening when a plane passes. We got bitten by mosquitos as there are many gaps in the wood / by the windows so they can easily find you! This was the worst night sleep we had in our 12 day trip.
The pool is not a welcoming area. There are no real areas to lounge / relax. Again, it is beautiful to look at, surrounded by interesting statues and plant life, but I can’t see myself sitting and enjoying this.
- Delia (10/5): Exceptional -

- kathrynrU2761PV (10/5): Luxe lodgings at its finest - Quite an unforgettable experience, which takes luxe to a whole new level. We felt cocooned and totally private amidst fine architecture, fine object d’arts and the warmest, caring service imaginable.
This hotel will allow you to experience “teak-style” splendour as you immerse yourself in high-end comfort.
The only negative was that our experience was so short-lived.
We cannot wait to return.
- Joseph (9/5): Beautiful setting. Wonderful experience - Very picturesque and photogenic setting and decor. Rooms are duplex villas, with lower floor being an outdoor terrace, all beautifully appointed in vintage Thai style. The pool is spectacular and the the staff couldn't be more accommodating- nothing was too much. Highly recommended!
- Karena (8/5): Very good -
- Maureen (10/5): High design, flawless attention to detail, gorgeous - We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful hotel. From the moment we walked in the staff provided us with exceptional service. The design is unlike any other hotel in which we’ve stayed. It was peaceful and inspirational. The villas are gorgeous both inside and out. The pool is stunning surrounded by the most beautiful and lush landscaping. The restaurant was wonderful. I had a two hour Thai massage at the spa which was the icing on the cake. This was undoubtedly the best hotel in which we stayed on our two week family vacation. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for high design, friendly, warm, and attentive staff, delicious food, great location, immaculate and comfortable rooms, and a unique boutique environment. It was perfect!
- Anonymous (10/5): perfect hotel to relax yourself - Best hotel of my journey, which may perfect your trip by all the facilities, good taste, great service and delicious food. none. it’s perfect
- Burr (10/5): Beutiful boutique property with traditional Thai style rooms. - Nice quiet little boutique hotel, very freindly staff and excellent breakfast. The rooms were traditional Thai style and were nicely updated.
- Wenjing (9/5): Superb - Fantastic Thai Lanna architecture buildings with a villa country yard layout that every corner has been delicately designed. interior has European and Asian fusion style. We had enjoyed our room with a open living room downstairs, real marble stairs and ancient wooden floors and walls. the owner’s sculptures and paintings proving their characteristic and consistent taste. stunning and styling. birds, cicada, frogs forming a nature rhythm background. a lovely sika deer also paid us a visit.
- Sarah (10/5): chilled few days in beautiful surroundings with lovely food - beautiful and peaceful nothing
- Karen (9/5): Unforgettable 🤍 - the property is beautiful, the rooms are thoughtfully appointed. we were blown away by how lovely the accommodation was. the location means you’ll be getting taxis everywhere (that may not be a negative) also it’s close to the airport (positive) but there is air traffic noise. Not a problem unless you’re a light sleeper and you want to sleep in after 6am or go to bed before 10pm.
- Ljennings89 (10/5): Honeymoon - We stayed last year as part of our honeymoon, THE most beautiful hotel we’ve ever stayed in, so peaceful so unique, we loved every minute of our stay here, we were upgraded to a villa with a pool and it was just paradise, food so good staff really helpful, helped us plan a day trip, we felt so lucky to stay here thank you
- Michael (10/5): a beautiful, relaxing stay. highly recommend - it was beautiful. wonderful staff
- H790317 (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect breakfast and you can pick the location you want to have it Bit noisy due to the wooden construction and near to airport
