Guest Reviews
- Mastromarino (9/5): Very nice stay, definitely recommended - The riad is amazing, stuff was super kind and helpful! They also organised a tour with guide for us! The room and breakfast are also very nice, position is optimal to visit the medina! We heard noise during night because of dogs barking and people working outside. If you are sensitive bring some earplugs!
- Harriet (8/5): Wonderful - Beautiful room, lovely restaurant downstairs (although very expensive and not authentic Moroccan cuisine if that’s what you’re looking for). They do serve alcohol though which is rare in Fes! Location was a bit tricky to find
- Floor (10/5): - De service was super.
- Adam (10/5): Beautiful riad with friendly staff - Very friendly staff. Beautiful room and riad - we loved being able to oversee the courtyard. Breakfast on the rooftop was also very good. The hotel went out of their way to make a special birthday. The double shower in our room was also enjoyable. The detail of the tiles and woodwork in the riad was stunning.
- Kristina (9/5): - The property was very beautifully designed and renovated. Location was perfect at the edge of the medina so much quieter than in the centre of things. We barely saw anyone whilst we were there. The only thing that was a bit annoying was the music played all afternoon and evening so when we came back after a full action packed day I couldn't quite switch off as music was being played. Breakfast was usual Moroccan fare the music in the afternoon and evening being played
- liesbet (10/5): Geweldig verblijf! - Prachtige riad, enorm groot en indrukwekkend. Goed gelegen!
- Brigitta (10/5): -
- Andrea (10/5): Beautiful place, terrific staff - Everything. The Yasmina suite was exquisite, the food among the very best in Fes—but the staff was best of all. Thoughtful, warm, accommodating. Could not have done more for us, all in a magical setting in a quiet area. That I had to leave
- Anne (9/5): A lovely Riad with excellent staff! - The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast and dinner were lovely.
The Riad is beautiful and I would definitely stay here again. We chose the cheapest room, which was good value for money. The bed was quite small, but adequate. In the bathroom there wasn’t anywhere near the basin to put toiletries. The sound of dogs barking during the night disturbed our sleep repeatedly.
- Indrani (10/5): Thanks for all - we loved to stay with you and would definately come back when in Fès. - The Dar Roumana is a beautiful Place. The staff was very Kind and always very helpful. The breakfast was very good. For us is was okay but if You have Problems with staircases you might have a Problem as there is no escelator to the rooms.
- Michael (8/5): This Riad was an excellent choice and would be better if it were not such a cold week that we needed extra heat. - Room was large and beautiful. Staff was excellent and helpful. Even organized a doctor to visit our room when we had stomach issues and then sent someone to buy meds for us. Room was cold and the heater high up on wall was not enough so had to use the propane heater which made the room smell of propane.
- Alperen (10/5): -
- Paula (10/5): -
- Benjamin (10/5): -
- Carina (10/5): - The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, comfortable and well heated, and the breakfast (especially the coffee) was delicious! The location was also very central.
- Adriana (10/5): An oasis at the edge of the medina - This spacious riad is a dream! Very tastefully renovated and decorated!
Located half way between the Bab Guissa gate and the Ain Zliten gate means you won’t have to go very far into the medina with your suitcases. It is close enough to walk to the major tourist attractions inside the medina, to all the souks and tanneries, without all that noise and narrowness.
The staff is professional, friendly and very helpful. They helped us with the suitcases, tips for Fes, and accommodated all our small requests.
The beds have very comfortable mattresses, on the firm side, and plush, fluffy duvets. The towels are thick and big. Everything was immaculately clean (and i am someone who is very picky about that aspect).
The bedrooms have A/C units which cool the place in the summer and heat it in the winter.
The food is AMAZING! It is a fusion of Moroccan, Mediterranean and European, perfectly done and wonderfully plated. I had breakfast and dinner here every day and tried almost everything on the menu and was impressed every time.
Beautiful, spacious rooftop offering 360 views of the entire Fes. The only small inconvenience are the many, many stairs, which is anyway typical for all riads in Morrocco. The steps are tall, which makes it painful to go up and down to the room or the rooftop if you have bad knees.
- Mohammad (7/5): - the staff is wonderful. The food is good. The location is hard to get to, since it is in the old city. The room is small and cold even though there is a wall heater working at full capacity. No central heating is present. The bathroom does not have heating in it. The image of the room on booking does not represent the actual size of the room.
- Jacob (9/5): Beautiful building, would go back! - The building was beautiful, it’s absolutely huge and incredibly ornate, the pictures simply don’t do it justice. The location was ideal, in the medina but in a tranquil corner that’s not too hard to reach by taxi. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, and they put on a good celebration for new year’s eve. The food was nice, but it seemed a shame that it wasn’t moroccan food. In such a traditional building I would have liked a tagine, rather than pasta! I also think some moroccan music would have been nice
- Fay (10/5): -
- Rosa (10/5): - Gorgeous riad. Our room was very spacious. Lot of attention to detail. Nice room service everyday. Would 100% stay here again.
- Robianesar (8/5): Nice and quiet Dar at Fez - Staff were very responsive.
Redouane was very responsive when reaching out via WA to arrange porter.
Hicham was very nice, helpful when we asked for help and directions. Big shout to him!
Food (Dinner) was very good. We had dinner there 2 nights in a row.
Room was very spacious. Location a bit far from the center of Madina, a bit hard to get food.
Room was quite old, the sink was stuck, hot water came and goes, very weak water shower.
We had to drag the big luggages by ourselves, because no one was there when we checked out at 9.30 am.
- Marcela (8/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): - Super quiet and beautiful Riad. Lovely large room on 1st floor looking into the courtyard. Breakfast was lovely.
- Eduardo (9/5): -
- Peter (8/5): A nice stay in a beautiful hotel. - The property is well located just a short walk from the market area. The rooftop terrace provides nice views and a comfortable setting to relax and enjoy the sunset and evening lights. The restaurant was comfortable and the menu was delicious. The staff greeted us with smiles and provided excellent service throughout our stay. There is noise that can be distruptive to guests. Roosters and barking dogs can distrupt your sleep. There are many stairs in the hotel without a lift.
- ITZIAR (10/5): - Lovely very authentic place with great terrace and cute rooms
- Ilana (9/5): The most interesting experience we ever had. From the medina's narrow alleys to a luxury riad. - Great hotel, beautiful room, very comfortable bed, amazing breakfast. It's very interesting, because you are in the middle of the medina, that is very poor, and suddenly the riad's door opens and you are in a palace. The only strange thing is that the bathroom is is a second floor, so you have to use the stairs (that was not a problem for us), and it is open, without doors. the open bathroom.
- Miren (10/5): Excellent séjour! - Accueil extrêmement agréable et cuisine délicieuse.
Très beau cadre, Riad paisible
- Paul (10/5): Fabulous, relaxing break at Dar Roumana! - Everything! Dar Roumana is absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious, the ambience was peaceful and beautifully traditional, and the staff were fabulous. The Riad is also situated in a perfect spot. Would highly recommend! We liked everything!
- thomas (10/5): -
- Victor (9/5): Great stay, attentive staff in beautiful building - Staff is great. The property is fantastic. Breakfast is good. The location is near a zone with bad smell
- VINCENZO (9/5): Valido ed interessante - Il Riad bello elegante e ben tenuto
- Kerry (10/5): We simply had a great experience. - We thought the food was great and the staff was exceptional.
- HB.Khiro (10/5): -
- HB.Khiro (10/5): -
- Perri (10/5): Beautiful and elegant accommodations in Fez. - The rooms were huge and beautiful. Everything about this place was excellent. The staff were very kind and helpful. I will definitely return. Everything was perfect.
- Daniëlla (10/5): Ontzettend fijn verblijf - Zeer gastvrij personeel Niets
- Santiago (10/5): Comida riquísima - La arquitectura y la gastronomia.
- Crummenauer (10/5): El mejor hotel de mi vida -
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - The building was gorgeous with preserved architectural details. It was in a convenient location but also slightly removed and quiet.
- Pascale (10/5): Solo traveller. Lovely stay in safe and beautiful area -
- Aranzazu (10/5): Excelent stay. We loved it - Clean, well located, friendly staff, beautiful hose and room, great breakfast Nothing
- Crummenauer (10/5): Amazing - I have travelled a lot and I was in very good hotels all around the world, but only in very few places I have found the excellence and beauty as I feel in Dar Roumana. The rooms are incredibly artistique and each member of the staff is amazing and personnel. Thank you.
- Tara (10/5): The best place to stay in Fes - There is only positives about this riad! The staff has been there for a long time - we learned at least one employee grew up on the street of this riad and now works there. They care and are knowledgeable! We felt welcomed immediately with mint tea and delicious treats. The staff gave us recommendations on everything - food, hammams, tour guides - and we trusted all of them. We booked the full day tour with them and our guide was OUTSTANDING! We would have never been connected with Hakim, who guided us through the city with insight and history.
Our room was personal and perfectly decorated. I literally took inspiration pictures to help decorate my home because the details to colors and design were perfectly balanced.
We looked forward to our terrace breakfast every morning. A little different each morning but always delicious.
I especially appreciated the book library where I got to trade out my book and got a book I've been looking forward to reading for a long time. Everything was perfect.
- Hervé (9/5): Exceptionnal Dar with beautiful rooms and nice restaurant - Beautiful Dar exceptionally renovated. Very large rooms. Very nice and pleasant personnel. Cosy ambiance. Delicious food. Nothing except that the streets close by are not clean and stincky (but it is a global problem of the medina)
- Kirsty (9/5): Superb -
- Kim (10/5): A fabulous place to stay - Absolutely stunning Riad in a great location.
Staff were amazing
We dined at the hotel and dinner was superb - as were the very generous and delicious breakfasts.
Highly recommend
- Kylie (9/5): Superb - Beautiful accommodation and location, lovely breakfast, great service Takeaway breakfast could have been more substantial; dinner was a bit expensive for what it was.
- Paula (10/5): We felt like royalty! - From the moment we walked in the door, we received exceptional hospitality and service leaving us feeling so special!
The interior courtyard was stunning and is where we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and evening meals. The food was fresh, beautifully presented and delicious!
As for the staff, you couldn’t ask for better service.
And then there’s the rooms which were massive, beautifully decorated and fit for a King or Queen which is how we felt.
A wonderful experience which enhanced our stay in Fes. 100% perfection!
- Kathryn (10/5): This is a true gem - Moroccan hospitality in a beautiful Dar with a high end restaurant. - Absolutely gorgeous place. Welcoming and helpful staff -- perfect example of the hospitality that Morrocco is known for. Plus the restaurant is exemplary. Wonderful ambiance and just an amazing experience altogether. It was our FAVORITE place during our 12 day stay in the country.
And we loved the guide, Khalil, that they booked for us. Nothing bad here! The only "problem" with this place is that it makes other Dars and Riads look shabby by comparison! ;-)
- Faremzy (10/5): Fantastic Stay - We love the fact that the room was spacious and it had a separate bathroom and laundry room. The staff were amazing, and the breakfast was top-notch.
- Masayu (10/5): An exquisite riad and memorable stay! - Dar Roumana was the first riad we stayed at during our 2-week girls trip around Morocco, and it definitely raised the bar high! It's very beautifully restored, especially the courtyard where we had our afternoon tea and daily delicious breakfast spread accompanied by Eddy the resident tortoise! Location was also perfect, close enough to the main streets of the old medina but quiet enough that it was felt like a relief to return to away from the hustle.
We also decided on a whim on one of the nights to have dinner at the restaurant, no regrets! They were flexible with our dining preferences and we were pleasantly surprised by the flavours and plating. My friend said it was better than the meals she had during her few days in Paris before arriving in Morocco.
Finally, not forgetting the best managing staff -- shout out to Nezha, Rachid and Mohamed for their attention to detail and incomparable hospitality!
A highly recommended stay (:
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous room..Gorgeous riad.. Great friendly staff. Very helpful. Excellent dinner, with varied options. Nothing
- Hilary (10/5): Gorgeous riad in wonderful Fez - Beautiful riad. The courtyard is stunning; our room was gorgeous and there is a lovely terrace with the best views over Fes. We ate at the restaurant 3 nights - food was great and the service was impeccable. The staff are very friendly - give you advice and arrange/help with anything you need.
- Wendy (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Paola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (10/5): Enchanting stay in beautifully restored, characterful house - Very special, beautiful place, full of antiques; the staff were particularly helpful and friendly and did everything they could to make our stay memorable. The breakfast was excellent, as was dinner there and our room was palatial. It could not have been better! Nothing
- Carolin (10/5): one of the nicest hotels we ever stayed in, would definitely recommend!!! - excellent service, very attentive! big room with a lot of space, big shower and comfortable beds. delicious breakfast in the beautiful patio. big rooftop terrace with a wonderful view of the medina and the sunset, and you get a free afternoon tea every day! street dogs barking all night long (but it’s probably inevitable)
- Aktürk (9/5): A real riad experience in a great location - I stayed is yasmina room. it was amazingly beautiful. the terrace the riad were amazong. clean, location is nice, staff is nice too. the bathroom was smeling bad so I am guessing it was coming from sewer and the steps were smeling food because kitchen was in the second floor.
- Sang (10/5): The perfect place to stay in Fes. - First of all, the Dar is beautifully renovated. The room was both beautiful and functional. The food - breakfasts and dinners, were excellent. The location is great because it's on the edge of the Medina, so it's quiet and surrounded by locals and many tradespeople who are doing their artisan work nearby. I honestly can't think of anything I didn't like,
- Markus (10/5): A wonderful experience; when coming back to Fes, we will certainly stay at Dar Roumana again. - The riad is decorated with incredible love and attention to detail - up to a degree, where it could easily be advertised as a museum; staying there was like living in a palace. The food cooked and served in the riad consists of international dishes with the occasional local spice blended in, and is perfectly cooked and served. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure to stay in this riad. That we had only two nights left to stay in this riad before leaving Fes again :-)
- Lauren (9/5): Beautiful riad with wonderful staff - Beautiful room, great restaurant, convenient location and friendly staff. It was very cold at night and the supplemental heat was a gas heater which isn’t ideal in a closed room.
- Jeffrey (10/5): The best Riad we stayed at in Morroco. Amazing. - This the most beautiful Riad I have ever seen. I felt like I was staying in a museum. The restoration from the original is phenomenal, and you can read about it in the books in the lobby. Our room was huge, gorgeous, and came with stained glass windows and a private terrace. There is also a very large and very comfortable rooftop terrace where you can see some of the monuments, the mountains, and the city. They serve alcohol so you can have wine with your dinner or have a drink or two watching the sunset on the rooftop terrace. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. We booked a private half day walking tour of the Medina through the Riad, and a full day private tour to the Roman Ruins in Volubilus and the imperial city of Meknes. Our private guide on both tours was amazing. This Riad has a small restaurant, and the food is superb. They have their own chef with a set menu with several options. The food was so good that we had dinner at the Riad every evening. Some people who don't stay at the Riad come to the restaurant just for dinner, but it was never crowded. We spent 18 days in Morocco, staying in Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakesh, and Fez, and this was the best Riad by far of all the ones we stayed in. There was some noisy construction going on during the day right next to the Riad, and some barking dogs at night, but this is something that the Riad can't control.
- Jeanne (10/5): A beautiful dar with great hospitality and a good location. - This is a beautiful place in a great location. Upon arrival, a porter met us where the taxi driver had dropped us off , and he pulled our bags and led us to the dar, thankfully! After walking down a little alleyway you enter into a stunning piece of architecture! We were welcomed by Hicham, who was very hospitable, charming, personable, and always helpful ( with a smile). All staff were pleasant, but we especially commend Hicham . We had mint tea and cookies at arrival, and every late afternoon the dar offered tea, which was a nice touch after a day out. We stayed in the Tamarind Room, a huge room overlooking the courtyard with a spacious sitting area. The rooftop terrace is lovely! Views over the whole city.
The first day, before we were somewhat oriented, Hicham called a porter to walk us to the restaurant where we were meeting friends, and it’s questionable that we would have found it without him. He offered to pick us up after the meal as well, but our friends were able to navigate us back. This is a valuable service to offer, especially after dark. The Medina streets are very narrow and twisty and much more easy to get lost here than in Marrakech. It was helpful to remember that going downhill you’re going deeper into the Medina, and uphill you’ll eventually come to the wall and a gate. Hicham suggested that if we did that, we could then take a petite taxi back to the gate nearest the dar. that was reassuring to know!
Hicham arranged a 3-4 hour private tour, well worth it. Our guide took us to places we wished to see, and also through places we got to see authentic daily Moroccan life. We learned a lot about The culture, history, and architecture.
The dar has a French chef, and dinner there was really delicious .Don’t miss out. At departure, Hicham gave us a bagged breakfast to go at 5 a.m. ! and arranged the porter and taxi. Don’t hesitate to book! A memorable stay. Nothing
- Leah (9/5): Superb -
- Hal (8/5): Very good -
- Cinzia (10/5): there are no words to describe the beauty of the place! it’s simply stunning. the staff is amazing and so welcoming! - everything! amazing place and wonderful staff nothing
- Erin (8/5): Very good - Beautiful property, lovely breakfast. We felt some pressure to go to shops recommended by the hotel. The driver on ride to Casablanca was too rushed and it felt unsafe at times.
- Peter (9/5): Fab -
- Caroline (10/5): Gorgeous Dar in Fes but fabulous restaurant - Beautiful room.
Excellent staff with a warm welcome
We had read about the restaurant and booked. We were not disappointed
- Mari (4/5): Disappointing -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brynley (9/5): Superb - Hachem was superb. Incredible service always. The property itself was stunning. Room was beautiful. The service was exemplary. The manager seemed off when we didn’t want to book activities through the hotel.
- Fiona (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning building beautifully renovated. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food.
- Greg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nikki (10/5): Perfect - Comfortable, stylish, gentle staff Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Our stay at Dar Roumana was perfect in every way. This restored home is so very beautiful in every way. The staff was so - The property is exquisitely beautiful, comfortable and so very accommodating. The food was divine and the staff perfect. There are truly not words to describe this Dar-it is the perfect Fes experience!!! Nothing that we disliked
- Charlotte (7/5): Pretty riad, helpful staff, great value for money - Very pretty place. Lovely and helpful staff, good value for money Little bit noisy the first night.
On the edge of the madina
- Leo (10/5): Three days of pure enjoyment. - Charming riad with absolutely wonderful staff. Their recommendations for restaurants (in addition to the delicious dinner by Dar Roumana’s chef), as well as for a guide in the medina and a driver, Redouane, who showed us important sites outside the medina, were excellent. We’d recommend Dar Roumana without hesitation to ourvery best friends. N/A
- James (10/5): Beautiful Riad with Amazing Staff! - Amazing! Staff is the nicest! Sooo wonderful!
- Vineeta (10/5): Beautiful riad with modern amenities and spacious rooms - Dar Roumana is a beautiful riad with modern amenities and friendly staff. Breakfasts were delicious and afternoon tea as well. The rooms were very large and well equipped, with beautiful showers. We enjoyed our experience and the staff helped arrange an airport pickup with transportation by porter to the riad late at night.
