Guest Reviews
- Anna (10/5): Wonderful - The service was exceptional. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and felt right at home immediately. Jesus was incredibly helpful and kind. A wonderful stay! Na
- Lori (8/5): - Lovely small boutique hotel. Jesus was great and so helpful!! Restaurant had a very limited menu but I guess to be expected with such a small clientele
- 411micahd (10/5): Fresh, clean and comfortable tropical getaway - Clean room and excellent rain shower. Really enjoyed the fresh food. Super friendly staff with Chef Oscar, Jose, Angie, Miguel at the kitchen and bar. Would definitely book here again.
- Nicolás (10/5): An Unforgettable Stay at Nerea – Exceptional Food, Service, and Experiences - I really enjoyed my stay at Nerea, it was a wonderful experience. The food at the property was absolutely delicious.
The team was always attentive to my needs, which made the stay even more special. The kayaking experience was incredible, and the fact that it was complimentary made it even better. We had so much fun.
We will definitely be coming back.
- Macarena (10/5): A perfect getaway — highly recommended - The included activities, such as kayaking, were truly exceptional and a wonderful added value to our stay. It was an incredible way to relax and fully enjoy such a beautiful and serene setting.
The staff was outstanding—always attentive, warm, and genuinely focused on making sure every detail of our stay was perfect.
We also took advantage of a massage promotion, and it was absolutely worth it. Our therapist was amazing, and the experience felt unique, relaxing, and deeply rejuvenating.
Additionally, the prices are very reasonable compared to other options in the destination, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. Everything was perfect — nothing disappointed us.
- travelmonsterJJ (10/5): Amazing experience with friendly staff (especially Jose) and delicious drinks. A beautiful beach too. - Delicious drinks with friendly staff
- taniagP9606ZJ (10/5): WARMHEARTED HOTEL - We loved it! - Our stay at Nerea was absolutely beautiful. The hotel has such a charming and peaceful atmosphere the perfect place to slow down and enjoy Tulum
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making us feel taken care of with genuine warmth and great service. Everything was spotless and very well maintained.
One of our favorite moments was swimming in the pool during sunrise, the light over the water is simply magical. And the food was amazing every day.
If you’re looking for a clean, intimate hotel with great energy and wonderful people, Nerea is a perfect choice.
- Alejandra Naughton (6/5): Sentimientos encontrados.
- K2833JCterryp (2/5): The worst! NOT clean - I rarely write negative reviews, but based on our experience at Nerea Resort in Tulum, I feel obligated to warn other travelers who value cleanliness and customer service.
From the moment we arrived, the condition of the resort and our room was far below acceptable standards for the price paid. The issues we encountered included:
• Dirty floors throughout the room, to the point we did not feel comfortable walking barefoot
• Pool visibly unclean upon arrival and still not cleaned by the time we checked out the following day
• Stained chairs both indoors and outdoors
• Dirty and heavily stained cushions in the room
• Significant mold buildup on outdoor furniture and seating areas
• Food stains on bed sheets
• Torn and damaged bedding
• Human feces found on pillowcases and sheets, which is completely unacceptable and unhygienic
• Sharp chip in the bathroom sink posing a safety concern
• Numerous small bugs near the bed and inside the room- video below
We immediately reported these concerns to the front desk upon arrival. We were told there was nothing they could do beyond another cleaning attempt. Given the level of uncleanliness, we requested a refund and explained that we were considering leaving to find another resort.
After staying only one night, we requested a refund again. The front desk representative had us sign a document confirming our one-night stay and provided an email address for management, instructing us to send photos and details to process the refund after departure.
Over the past six weeks, both my travel agent and I have contacted the resort multiple times. We have received only one response, from the front desk clerk, and have never been contacted by management, nor has ANY meaningful resolution been offered.
While we understood the original booking policy stating “no refunds,” the conditions of the property and the communication from staff led us to believe our case would be handled fairly. Instead, all follow-up communication has effectively been ignored with no resolution.
This review is not written out of frustration alone, but as a warning to other travelers: if you are looking for a clean hotel, well-maintained facilities, and responsive customer service, this was not our experience at Nerea Resort. Please see all of the pictures included.
- nicolemQ1662IK (2/5): Extremely disappointing stay serious cleanliness and safety concerns - Extremely Disappointing Stay – Serious Cleanliness and Safety Concerns
Our experience at Nerea Resort in Tulum was deeply disappointing and far below acceptable standards, especially for the price paid.
Upon arrival, our room and the property showed significant cleanliness issues, including:
Dirty floors throughout the room
A visibly unclean pool that remained unaddressed during our stay
Stained indoor and outdoor chairs
Heavily stained cushions and visible mold buildup on outdoor furniture
Food stains and torn bedding
Human feces stains on pillowcases and sheets, which is completely unacceptable
A sharp chip in the bathroom sink posing a safety risk
Numerous small bugs near the bed and inside the room
We immediately reported these concerns to the front desk. We were told another cleaning attempt was the only option. Given the severity of the issues, we requested a refund and left after one night.
At checkout, we were asked to sign documentation confirming our one-night stay and were provided an email for management to process a refund after we submitted photos. Over the past six weeks, multiple follow-ups from both us and our travel agent have gone unanswered, with no meaningful response from management.
While we understood the stated “no refund” policy, the condition of the property and the communication we received led us to believe our concerns would be handled fairly. That has not been our experience.
If you value cleanliness, proper maintenance, and responsive customer service, this was not our experience at Nerea Resort.
- Carla (10/5): -
- Nicole (8/5): Great Hotel that's Perfect for Relaxation - I liked the location, the room, the views of the sunrise & sunset were absolutely beautiful. I felt safe at the resort and it had everything needed to relax. The staff were great and very helpful. I didn't like the limited menu and when I tried the restaurant at the other location (Mereva) the food was not good at all.

- H7597WWamandap (2/5): Terrible - wish someone had warned me!!! - It's unlike me to leave a review but I'm trying to spare others the same disappointment. It was so disappointing that we had a reservation for 9 nights and checked out within 48 hours. In 30 years of traveling I've never been disappointed to the level of having to change hotels, until this experience. Is this long but worth the read before confirming your reservation.
Believe the negative reviews, not only are they true but additionally I found several things advertised that were not offered. On top of agreeing with the other negative reviews about dirty cushions and a rundown facility, if you are looking for yoga which is advertised, there is none "the instructor left some time ago and was never replaced", if you are looking for a hot tub which is advertised, "they don't turn the heat on anymore, not sure why". The gym is rundown and not clean. If you are looking for a working restaurant, the 2 evenings I was there there was not a soul in the main restaurant at Nerea. It didn't seem to be operating. You are able to walk down a dark and sketchy dirt road to get to nearby restaurants at other hotels, one section of the road is so dark I turned around and went back. If you are looking to sit at their cutely picture seaside bar, our first morning we sat at one of the tables to get a coffee and we waited so long without attention, we left. That afternoon we tried to sit at the bar and it was covered with staff items - laptops in front of barstools, a pile of dishes, drink trays...... we moved aside a couple of things and sat at two stools and then had to ask to be waited on after sitting there for 10 minutes with the bartender behind the bar busy tidying up instead of waiting on us. Then, when I ordered a nonalcoholic juice drink from the bar menu, he looked at me like he did not know what to drink was and then another coworker told him that it's only served at breakfast time. This was about 2pm.... it was a healthy juice, on the bar menu. There is absolute no attention to detail. We we're interested in sitting at the larger part of the pool where there were 4 loungers and 2 of the 4 did not have cushions, the loungers were wooden so it would've been very uncomfortable without a cushion, the other 2 were covered with sand and stains.
This all happened between checking in at 4:30PM on Friday evening and waking up and deciding it was time to leave at 9:30 AM Sunday morning. Two nights on one day, and we were supposed to be there for nine nights!!
I guess I should have paid more attention when I had to sign a paper when checking in saying that I understood there was not a refund if there was any reason we wanted or had to leave early.... I've never seen that before, most hotels would gladly refund a person who is so unhappy they're leaving 20% into their stay.... This establishment CLEARLY does not care about customer satisfaction, only collecting their fee. They refused to give me any sort of refund - even partial.
Don't say you weren't warned, read and take seriously the negative reviews for this one!!!
- Alison (8/5): Great place for a few days. Shame building works next door however if you get the beds on the pier it was pretty chilled - Super clean and helpful staff at reception . Food was great. Great choice of sister restaurants too. Staff asking for tips all the time when I went to the bar and collected my own drink. Not being able to put drinks on a bill when staying for 3 nights. Plunge pool wasn’t cleaned and operative. Water in room after rain. Knacks need ropes to help carry them.
- Elisabetta (1/5): Horrible, tragic, thieves - There was a nice view from the room. I do not have one more positive thing to say about my stay Let’s start from this: our group had two rooms. From one room, a perfume disappeared. From the other room, a small bag with 350€ inside was stolen. So, if you want to stay at Nerea, make sure you lock up everything and don’t bring anything of value - unless you’re fine with leaving the hotel without it. When we signaled it, the cleaning ladies smirked and the reception pretended they knew nothing about it. I honestly feel grateful I walked away with my jewelry.. I guess they realized it wasn’t real gold.
On top of that, there is barely hot water (and the hotel confirmed that is NORMAL, they do not usually have it), our toilet wasn’t working and the so-called jacuzzi couldn’t retain water.
The food was tragic, very few choices, and each day many options were missing including the guacamole. I mean, you’d expect a hotel in Mexico to have avocados.
I also think I had the worst cappuccino of my life.
Note that the last ten minutes of the drive is not a road, but an off-road full of holes where you need to go 1 km/h if you want your car to survive it.
Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.
- 211marayaw (10/5): The perfect hotel - this hotel is on the smaller side but it is perfect for a relaxing get away. the staff is friendly and attentive. pools are clean. ocean is a few steps away. the restaurant is very good, and so is the bar. The atmosphere is warm and inviting but also calm and relaxing. The rooms are clean and beautiful. Everything about this hotel was perfect for us. We are not into crowds or going out at night so this hotel was perfect for us, only a short drive to the town of tulum where we spent most of our days. They also have taxis available for use.
- Sonia (8/5): Was a good stay - Location and pvt beach Breakfast and restaurant menu is very Ltd
Facilities in the room - esp hot water issues is something that we didn’t quite like
- NRONoMo (10/5): Dinner in paradise - We were treated to an exceptional meal, with our toes in the sand, at the restaurant at Hotel Nerea. At the front desk, we were greeted by the inimitable Jesus, by name, as if greeting old friends. Our server, Axelle, provided impeccable service and a delicious dinner. I had the pescado ahumado which was crazy delicious, as was my friend’s pollo. As we were departing, Jesus graciously offered to showcase some of their rooms, which made us promise to return. Don’t miss this tranquil spot on Tankah Bay!
- A8975MLdawnd (4/5): The worst hotel we have ever booked after traveling 50+ countries - I first have to say the staff were amazing, front desk and our server every morning were so great, they did thier best to help with all the issues we experienced but obviously the management it trying to cut expenses, this is not a luxury hotel.
#1 -No hot water 5 out of 7 days, it works but im told maintenance shuts it off
#2 -Amazing coffee machine but no coffee for it, promised every day but didn't get any
#3 -This is NOT a Michelin hotel, the breckfast is only eggs or pancakes and the dinner we had was the worst dinner we have ever had in any restaurant, fish was off, fed it to the cat and way way to much salt and i love salt. They made us pay for it and when a main course is $55 dollars, it should be edible.
#4- I booked a swim up king in the middle building, they changed us to a top floor in the back building so we got to see and hear the construction of a new hotel next door.
#5- We are not one to use house keeping because we like our privacy, they said ok but then still came into our room to remove the net we were using to clean the roof plunge.
#6-They say on thier web site that they have games and puzzles ect, nothing at all, we should have brought cards, we went to the hotel next door to eat and drink and play cards. The margaritas/cocktails are $26 dollars Canadian at our hotel so cheaper to walk down the beach
#7- The room they moved us too had the most disgusting methane gas coming thru the vents into the staircase going to the roof, that made me so sick the first two day and the last day.🤮
#7- The dock they have is unsafe to enter the water, i told them the steps are covered in slippery growth, it did not get cleaned. This is a big problem because your not supposed to swim in the Sargassum seaweed, we had to , to go snorkeling. I now have a rash all over my body from this, if you google this you will see how serious this is. They promote the dock as a safe way to get past this stuff, a couple girls we met at the hotel(1 pregnant) did not go swimming for this reason.
#8-They have very nice lounge chairs but they are covered in bird dropping and it looked the same the whole week, so they dont clean them. The cushions on our deck where discusting.
#9- They implied when we booked that there were TV's, there were only big holes in the wall where there had been.
#10-They pomote a Cenotes in thier back yard, it is not safe to use, again , it was disgusting, non of the hotel guests used it.
#11- Rent a four wheel drive car, you will need it to drive down the roads to get to this hotel, our rental car bottemed out all rhe time.
#12-Bring your own pillow and bath towels, dont rely on your fridge to save money, it is not cold so all my cheses got moldy, enough said!!!

- chante (7/5): A little charmer by the beach - The front desk receptionist Jesus was amazing he just made me smile every time I saw him such great energy and a smile always on. Also, my housekeeper was amazing. It was so fun coming back each day from our excursions to see a little creature she created with our towels it was a little details that really made it special. also, the restaurant staff was amazing as well. Everyone that works here really made the stay comfortable and pleasant. The TV was definitely very difficult to work. I think a better system needs to implemented. The pillows were really hard and the shower didn’t have hot water. We did tell the front and they promptly fixed it, but it still shouldn’t have been an issue to begin with.

- Daniella (7/5): Overall, it was beautiful and the people were amazing with just a few things to note before going. - Beautiful property with very kind staff. There isn’t hot water, the construction next store was pretty disturbing, the hot tub wasn’t usable because of the bugs and trees, the food was very mediocre and limited, and too far from town to go in for dinner- you need a car to stay here.
- Chetana (10/5): Peaceful, comfortable, staff were very courteous and helpful. - Loved the private roof top jacuzzi, the view to the beach None
- Lubov (10/5): We will definitely come back - From the check in to check out we were simply happy to stay at the hotel: everything were working perfectly, the team treats us amazingly and we got complimentary upgrade even! My husband had a birthday so the hotel also presented us a tasty gift ❤️
- Gurdeep (5/5): There was no advance warning about the sea weed before we booked, sea view blocked by tree - Did not have breakfast Better information about things to do in Tulum and other towns nearby. The road from 307 is atrocious. Had to pay for an upgrade for partial seaview that should have been included with our booking
- antoniomM7020PX (10/5): Great spot in Tulum - Nerea is amazing!! I had an amazing time, the hotel is beautiful. I loved the pier! And the bathrooms are huge. Jesus from front desk was very helpful from the moment I got there. Also a shoutout to Felipe from the restaurant for always suggesting amazing food. I’ll definitely be back, everyone was amazing. Thanks!
- Blumenkranz (10/5): Exceptional -
- DarioAvila74 (10/5): Tulum's Hidden Gem - I found Nerea while looking for new experiences while in Tulum, and let me tell you it was one of the best experiences I've had in Tulum. The rooms are extremely comfortable and beautiful, the staff is just amazing and the food is exquisite. Next time I come to Tulum I'll be staying at Nerea for sure.
- Walter (6/5): Pleasant - Size of room, kind staff, comfy bed Restaurant and bar not open, snorkel gear and kayak rental gear was old, Included breakfast was a walk away and charged for room service due to closed restaurant, food was very expensive for lunch and dinner, and was very tasteless.
- Patrice (9/5): Superb -
- joeandkristins (10/5): We had the most peaceful stay at Nerea Tulum. We loved the boho jungle vibes, breathtaking views and quiet atmosphere. - We had the most relaxing , romantic, peaceful vacation at Nerea Tulum! The views from our private rooftop pool were stunning and we got to see the sunrise and sunset everyday from our private oasis! We would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely 10/10!
- Mario (9/5): Superb -
- pmday7 (10/5): Peaceful stay at Hotel Nerea - We loved our 3-day stay at Hotel Nerea. I highly recommend the rooftop suite with the plunge pool. It was the perfect place to watch the sunrise. We enjoyed the fact that this was a small property. It was very clean and the room was comfortable. It was quiet, peaceful, and it allowed us to completely relax. The staff are all super friendly and go out of their way to ensure you are well cared for. We enjoyed having several meals at the restaurant (especially breakfast), but tried a couple of other nearby hotel restaurants as well. We walked to the nearby cenote for snorkeling. We also used the hotel kayaks. For a longer stay, you will probably want to take a taxi or ride a bike into town. I want to thank Jesus, Santos, and Janet especially for taking good care of us! My only recommendation is to fix up the pier a bit. The other hotel piers have a thatched hut for shade at the end. But this was not a big deal.
- Gabriela (10/5): Amazing -
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phoebe (9/5): Great staff helpful - Restaurant and layout and outside tub

- Destination687204 (2/5): Do NOT book a stay at Nerea Tulum and don’t expect a full refund through Hotels.com, even with a refundable booking - We booked a stay at Nerea Tulum in 2024 for January, 2025 with a refundable deposit through Hotels.com. We canceled the trip in November of 2024 through Hotels.com and only received a partial refund. We didn’t receive the remaining refund and chatted with Hotels.com. Hotels.com told us they would reach out to the hotel and take care of it. After not receiving the remaining refund, we reached out to Hotels.com and were told we would need to speak to Nerea directly; despite making the reservation through Hotels.com. After that, Nerea reached out to us via WhatsApp saying that they were having trouble processing the refund and asked for a tax id number and credit card information; both of which we already had processed through Hotels.com. We were not going to Whatapp that information to the Mexican hotel.
So, our recommendation is to NOT use Hotels.com or stay at Nerea Tulum.
- Luke (8/5): Stunning beachfront hotel! - The hotel is beautiful, peaceful, very well-kept, and all the staff are very friendly and attentive. We stayed in one of the rooftop suites (not beachfront), and it was amazing. I would definitely recommend it; the view was stunning, even though it wasn't directly on the beachfront. The room itself was again beautiful and very well laid out, and I could not fault it in any way. In terms of value for money, looking at other hotel options, for a room of that standard, it was good value for money. There is also a very nice cenote just a 5-minute walk down the road. We also did a turtle snorkelling trip via the hotel, which was great – although it was also very overpriced, in my opinion, but a great experience worth doing. We found the hotel to be a little too remote (which obviously has its pros, as it was very quiet and peaceful). However, if you like to stroll out to shops or restaurants, like we do, there is nothing notable around. For us, it was a bit of a hassle as we were relying on taxis for transport, and they are quite expensive! We were paying 500 pesos to Tulum Centre (a 15-minute trip), and for the Tulum beach area, where many of the highly rated restaurants are, we paid 900 pesos (a 30-minute trip). In my opinion, the hotel should really offer a shuttle service to Tulum Centre periodically throughout the day, as we felt tied to only going out once a day to avoid wasting too much on taxis! The location definitely wouldn't put us off staying at the hotel, as it was absolutely stunning, but if they offered a shuttle, it would be a no-brainer!
- FinlandTaHa (8/5): Few days rest after tour of Yucatan - Rooftop suite: Comfortable beds and pillows. No shade in 2nd floor balcony. Good and silent air conditioning. Nice clean room. Breakfast good. Pier full of birds and bird droppings. Difficult to go swimming from the beach due to sharp stones in water. Polite and nice staff.
- samanthaantha (2/5): Stay ANYWHERE else in Tulum, please - Stay somewhere else. Nothing like the pictures. Dirty and noisy from construction. Can’t go in sea from the beach and the pontoon is full of birds and pelicans and more significantly thick with bird poo - wouldn’t ever walk in that. Basic food, stains on chairs and cushions, nothing like the “boho vibe” on the website, totally cheap experience compared. Can’t walk along front road due to scorpions and snakes, can’t walk along beach cause of sargassum (bad in Jan - April here!!) and if you follow the instructions to walk along beach to a Cenote you’ll be attacked by guard dogs on the way. Just don’t bother. It’s miles away and taxis don’t like driving the dirt track road. Stay in Tulum centre or any other hotel.
- Samantha (1/5): I would rather stay anywhere else than here - Nothing like the pictures It is dirty, unsafe and out of the way of everything. Beach is gross can’t walk on it. Can’t enter sea from beach.
- cavidoni (10/5): Peace and calm place - Nerea is a retreat hotel. A gift to yourself. This is not a place where you will find continental American breakfast and large group gatherings. A place for quality of time with yourself and perhaps with a significant other. You will find a restaurant menu with delicious meals that focus on your wellbeing. I’ve been here for five days. So far, the ambience, nature, food, and kind staff members are offering me a wonderful and relaxing experience. This hotel is exactly what was looking for. Everything I read on the website, including restaurant menu and amenities are better than expected. Again, this a retreat hotel. This is not a regular vacation or spring break type. Instead, it’s a calm and peaceful place to be and to connect with nature. I give it more than 5 stars.
- Erin (9/5): Beautiful hotel and very friendly staff. - The hotel was beautiful, always clean and felt very safe. The staff were amazing. They were so friendly and always willing to help. The restaurant menu had limited choices and was fairly overpriced.
- waynehodgesautos (10/5): Beautiful and peaceful place - Beautiful Hotel, the staff at the hotel really looked out for their guests Jesus at the front desk very helpful and Jose, Oscar and Santos greeted us with a smile and delicious breakfast every day.
The view from our room was beautiful very peaceful, I hope I can come back in the near future
- Alexandre (7/5): Good - Quiet Prices for food and drinks were quite high for what it was
- Srei (9/5): We enjoyed our stay so much and wished we could stay longer. All the staff were so friendly! Would definitely recommend - We loved our room and private rooftop. We had such a good time by the beach and just relaxing on our private rooftop pool. Nothing
- Voyage14997983023 (4/5): Bad service bad management - Our stay at this hotel was a huge disappointment. While the beach looked nice, it was impossible to swim due to sharp rocks and cliffs right beneath the water. The pier, which seemed like a charming spot in the photos, was covered in bird droppings and almost unusable. Instead of the serene, jungle-inspired setting promised on the website, we were surrounded by construction sites, with constant noise from a nearby hotel being built. The service was hit or miss—some staff members were friendly, but others were unhelpful and unfriendly. The rules were unnecessarily complicated, like having to leave a deposit just to use the room’s amenities, and constantly being reminded that tips weren’t included. The breakfast was another letdown. Advertised as a full American continental breakfast, it turned out to be a limited choice—no buffet, just a single dish and a glass of juice via QR code. When we tried to check out a day early due to the noise, we couldn’t reach the manager for two days, and when we finally did, he was aggressive and dismissive. In the end, we lost the money for the final night and left anyway. This hotel is nothing like what it claims to be—false advertising, poor service, and a management team that doesn’t take guest concerns seriously.
- 773catarinag (4/5): Construction site, noise and rudness - The hotel did not live up to its promises at all. The beach looked beautiful, but swimming was out of the question because of the sharp rocks and cliffs right beneath the water. The picturesque pier was completely unusable, covered in birds and droppings. Instead of the peaceful jungle retreat we expected, we found ourselves surrounded by construction sites, with constant noise from a nearby hotel being built six days a week. Service was inconsistent—some staff were friendly, but others were indifferent or downright rude. Simple things like charging items to the room required a deposit and endless signing, even though the hotel was small. Every time we did, we were reminded that service wasn’t included, which felt like a constant push for tips. The “full American continental breakfast” turned out to be a joke—no buffet, just a QR code menu where you could pick a single dish and one glass of juice. When we asked to leave a day early due to the unbearable noise, the manager avoided us for two days, and when we finally got hold of him, he was aggressive and refused to even discuss a refund. We left anyway, losing the money for our last night. This hotel is a complete letdown—false advertising, frustrating policies, and a management team that simply doesn’t care.
- michagQ2788QG (2/5): Choose another hotel - This hotel was nothing like what was advertised. The beach looked beautiful, but swimming was impossible due to sharp rocks and cliffs just below the surface. The pier, which appeared so inviting in photos, was actually covered in birds and their mess, making it completely unusable. Instead of a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, we found ourselves in the middle of a construction zone, with nonstop noise from a nearby hotel being built. The service was disappointing—some staff were pleasant, but others were unhelpful or even rude. Everything had to be signed for, requiring a deposit even for small things, and we were repeatedly reminded that service wasn’t included, making it feel like we were being pressured to tip constantly. The biggest letdown was the breakfast—advertised as a full American continental buffet, but in reality, you could only pick one item and a single glass of juice via a QR code, far from the selection we expected. When we asked to check out early due to the unbearable noise, the manager avoided us for two days and, when we finally spoke to him, was dismissive, aggressive, and refused any refund. We left anyway, losing the money for our final night. This hotel is a complete scam—don’t waste your time or money.
- Catarina (2/5): Very poor - The pictures and description of the hotel were completely misleading. The beach looked nice, but swimming was impossible – beneath the water were sharp rocks and cliffs, not sand. The beautiful pier, which seemed idyllic in the photos, was practically unusable, covered in birds and bird droppings. The hotel promised peace and harmony, but in reality, it was surrounded by construction sites in a slum-like area, with a new hotel being built right next door, making noise from morning until evening. The service was poor; some staff were friendly, but many were uninterested and difficult to deal with. There were annoying rules requiring a deposit just to charge anything to the room, and every time we signed for something, we were reminded that service wasn’t included – even though we were often standing there in swimwear without cash on hand. The breakfast, advertised as a full American continental breakfast, was a major disappointment – no buffet, just a QR code where you could choose one dish and a glass of juice, meaning the variety we expected simply didn’t exist. When we wanted to check out a day early due to the unbearable noise, the manager ignored us for two days, and when we finally spoke to him, he was aggressive and dismissive. We received no refund for the last night, even though we couldn’t take it anymore and left. Avoid this hotel – false advertising, poor service, and management that doesn’t care.
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional - Thankyou for a wonderful stay - the staff were beyond friendly and the hotel is gorgeous - we had a wonderful relaxing time.
- Cariza (10/5): Exceptional -
- jamcg53 (8/5): Fabulously designed boutique hotel - Beutifully designed pools and walkways between the rooms. This hotel is about as close to the sea without actually being in it - right on the beach. Our room was very spacious with a quirky design, Loved the big shower. Very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. They stocked the room fridge with complimentary water and soft drinks each day. The restaurant is elevated on the first floor and has a stunning view out to sea. Great choice for our three night stay. All the staff we met were friendly and polite.
Some points for the owner's attention. Fix the sun beds on the beach, about half of them were broken. Renovate the wooden tables on the beach front. I mentioned that our TV was not working and was told they would fix it, but it remained not working during our stay. If I had known we would have been given room 103 alongside the noisy building site, I would not have booked this hotel. No mention was made of the building site, and, at the price of our room, it is not acceptable.
- Zeynep (10/5): Great location, friendly staff - Location - very close to the center, just 15 min. by car Nothing
- Heidi (5/5): Passable but unfortunately disappointing - Spending 2 weeks in QR, Mexico, Nerea Tulum was an ok average for a 4 night stay. The hotel is located approx 10km outside of the town, and taxis will cost anything between 500 to 1000MXN; the dirt road leading to the hotel is in a very poor condition and takes time as the drivers naturally try and preserve their vehicles. The food was passable, however by far the weakest we experienced during our stay. The hotel promotes free activities, such as yoga, however the confirmation received upon booking clearly states the 7am yoga (yes, woke up for this - for nothing) takes place at the Hotel Nerea pier - when asked later, the reception only said oh oops it's the neighboring hotel's pier (5min walk). Other receptionist claimed another response. A bit messy. Oh well, a gorgeous sunrise I got to witness at least! The gym promoted is located in another hotel down the dirt road (free access though). The hotel sales photos are outdated, their own pier is in a rough condition. Our room smelled of mold and moisture, the hotel's solution to this upon notifying them immediately on the day of our arrival was to spray it with perfumes upon cleaning on a daily basis after that...Their shoreline is gorgeous though and the service onsite ok. The biggest disappointment aside for the cuisine and the outdatedness was that it took the hotel 7 months to return another (fully refundable) booking cancellation of ours. 7 months is beyond acceptable, and the currency rates had evolved in this time causing ourselves significant loss in relation to the original fee paid. It has not been 9 months and the hotel is handling this very poorly - promising to fix it, yet nothing happens. I would not recommend them as they are far from luxury, price / quality ratio is poor, communication is vague and the property does not match the sales images. The lot next to it is a construction site - not lush vegetation.
- allenwL8443ZC (10/5): Great place - We had a wonderful stay at Nerea Tulum. Loved the location and the quick ride into town. We had a room on the ocean which had a screen on the sliding glass door so we were able to leave the door open and listen to the waves. There is a hotel being built right next door but we were lucky it didn't affect our stay. We were there during the holidays so there wasn't much work going on.
- Diane (9/5): Superb -
- Karim (3/5): Bad experience - Only the view A huge failure and disappointment with my recent stay at your hotel, which was meant to be a special occasion as it was our honeymoon. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations due to several issues.
- Location: The hotel's distance from the city center made it highly inconvenient for us to enjoy the area as planned.
- Construction noise: Every morning, we were disturbed by loud construction sounds, which severely impacted our ability to relax and enjoy our stay.
- Management response : When we requested to change hotels due to these disturbances, our request was declined, they said its non refundable ,leaving us with no resolution to our concerns.
- Hygiene: I experienced severe skin irritation, with red spots covering my body. This raised concerns about the cleanliness of the bedding or the potential presence of insects.
Due to the issues mentioned, we decided to check out a day earlier.
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- luigisilv (10/5): Good spot away from the chaos - The Hotel is directly adjacent to the beach, with their private wharf in which you can enter into the sea. We had the sea front suite, the view was amazing. The room was spacious and well decorated. The bathroom was equipped with both, bath tub and shower. What I suggest is to improve the restaurant (including breakfast). The staff was very kind. It is a perfect place if you desire to stay away from the chaos, because it is 30/40 minutes away from the main restaurants and bars.
- Dora (10/5): High standards, luxury view, nature & privacy! - The breakfast view was epic, everyday! They had delicious, european style bread, great flavours, and the fresh fruits were carefully selected to be the ripest! The staff was amazing. Friendly and attentive. Every day we went to do activities in the area, and when we arrived home, our room was cleaned and organized to the highest standards. It had the privacy and beauty that I needed. Really relaxing environment. The pillows were a bit high for me, but the bed was comfortable.
The dirtroad that takes you to the hotel is an adventure to drive (really bumpy).
There are more beautiful beaches in Tulúm, but still not complaining! :)
- Michael (10/5): Nerea Tulum Hotel... A Hidden Gem Oasis in Tankah Bay! Stay Here! - Excellent oceanfront charming boutique hotel in Tankah Bay... The staff was excellent, the food in their restaurant was amazing and this hotel allows you to truly relax away from the hustle and hustle of Tulum Beach... but Nerea Tulum Hotel is only a 600 MXN 15-minute taxi from Tulum. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NEREA TULUM HOTEL! It's somewhat remote from Tulum, but that's the real beauty of this hotel and only a 15-minute taxi from Tulum...
- Zach (7/5): Good but not excellent. - 1) The staff were accommodating and friendly.
2) Clean hotel and facilities. 1) Our bathroom smelt like drains.
2) The hotel was 40 minutes drive from Tulum beach, and the cost of a round trip by taxi was extortionate.
3) The food was average.
- Erika (6/5): overall- i would not recommend. if someone wants to be on cielo maya, which is not tulum the city or the beach/hotel - room cleanliness— sheets changed daily, refilled mini fridge with no charge, kind employees. hotel was sort of isolated— not in tulum (the city or the beach area) , so cabs were v expensive. food not good ,
beach was small and coral— so hard to go into water to swim/splash.
- Dhruv (7/5): Great staff, decently comfortable, but please don’t be fooled into thinking this is some luxury resort. Limited food opt - Friendly staff Overpriced, lack of amenities
- nutmeg1228 (10/5): Boho Tropical Oasis - 5 stars is not enough for this beautiful oasis. The property is absolutely gorgeous with a boho tropical vibe. The food is fresh, flavorful and healthy. My room offered a private rooftop pool that overlooks the sea. However, my favorite part of this location was the fabulous staff. Thank you to everyone, especially Jesus, Oscar, Miguel, and Javier. I appreciate all of you for treating me like I was VIP and making my birthday so special.
- Leandro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Franziska (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was very good. We also had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast in Mereva and Alea, which was great.
The staff was very kind and immediately remembered our special requests. A special thanks to José and Santo.
During our stay, there was some construction work going on, and we were promptly offered an upgrade to a quieter room at no extra cost. Thank you! We had a wonderful stay. The view from the rooftop pool is breathtaking.
- Ena (9/5): The staff really went above and beyond to make this already perfect little vacation even better. - Gorgeous property, right on the beach, well designed and beautiful. Only wish was for the pillows to be softer. Too stuffed and hard to sleep on.
- Jan (10/5): A fantastic place - Everything ! Staff was amazing , a special shoutout to Javier and Janet ! Both very accommodating and friendly . Javier extremely helpful and went above and beyond for us . We recommend to stay on the seafront , very nice and magical 😘
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect Nothing
- Agui365 (10/5): our stay was amazing! the staff was incredibly helpful and attentive - everything. we loved the location for a romantic getaway it was off a dirt road, which was fine. we just didn’t know in advance
- Sylvia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Druan (10/5): Exceptional - Located slightly outside Tulum. The hotel is great if you need a few days of relaxing.
Good breakfast. The staff was helpful. There is a construction site next door, which made a lot of noise in communal areas, and there was less noise inside the room, but still a distraction.
- Taurino (10/5): Stay was perfect right on the beach - Very friendly staff The entrance go go in omfg/ and the Menu was ok need more Steaks Selection
- Philippa (5/5): Amazing hotel , amazing staff . Such a shame about the building site - The hotel was lovely . The staff were so polite and welcoming . We had a swim up room which we loved . The breakfasts were the best I’ve had . Jesus was particularly welcoming . He was available for any problems We had a building site next door . The drilling during the day was unbearable. The fumes affected my breathing and gave me a headache . This is not the fault of the hotel but it wasn’t mentioned beforehand. I did remark on it a few times but nothing was done . I think that if I’d pushed it they would have put me in one of their sister hotels . Food and drink a bit expensive
- Mousa (2/5): terrible stay with terrible management that is all about the money you pay not about your experince - nothing was as expected!
Stay away from this hotel The service was terrible!
I would not recommend staying at this hotel for a number of reasons: 1. the managementis really about getting your money at first then giving you what you actiually paid for. This is their buisness strategy as we had several complaints with no practical solutions offred and no cooperation with us.
2. the food was mediocre at best
3. the hotel is located around 30 minutes outside the city
4. the beach isnot bautfute as it is very rocky and dirty
5. no communication via phone - you have to go physically to the lobby to get information neede for your stay
6. there is construction work going on everyday from 9:00 untill 19:00 and they would lie to you and say it will stop - it never did...
a nightmare hotel...
Suggestion : Keep away from this hotel !
- Patrick (10/5): A favorite but some temporary issues currently.. - I have stayed here multiple times and keep coming back for that beachfront room with the rooftop pool, it's beautiful.
The staff here are always generally friendly and helpful, a particular note for Jesus at the front desk who is an absolute gem and pleasure to interact with!
They need a Jesus at their other two sister hotels (Alea and Mereva) where I unfortunately cannot say anything similar about the hospitality. This particular time there was noisy construction going on most of the day, I also realize it is not their fault but a hurricane earlier this year destroyed their palapas that you see prominently in the photos. They were literally my other favorite feature besides the rooftop pool, for lounging out on a hammock with a drink.
I think they should give customers a heads up about these things and update photos. Ideally, it should also be factored into the price (particularly the construction which has made almost no progress since my last stay in March/April 2024...expect noise well into 2025).
- Buck (10/5): Would totally stay here again, loved the aesthetic. - The staff. Jesus saved us the day of departure by assisting us getting our passports that we left behind. Thank you so much Jesus. Bartender Miguel was delightful and we share his love of animals and enjoyed learning about the local wildlife. Miguel aka “Peter Parker” was also fantastic and Benjamin and Jose were also great hosts. Loved breakfast and the welcoming staff all around. Facilities were great and loved the pool. Construction going on next door, no fault of Nerea. Food was a little pricey.
- Ailine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (6/5): room was exceptional, beach was rocky and not pleasant, service was poor - Breakfast was very good and healthy more choices or a buffet
- Debon (8/5): Very good -
- Dawn (10/5): Blissful private luxury - Breakfast was excellent. Freshly made, two courses to choose from a menu with good variety. Service was always spot on. Extremely quiet location, secluded private beach, away from the main drag and partying of Tulum town, and only 22 rooms in the hotel so it never felt crowded. Lovely private beach, free use of kayaks, SUPs and snorkeling. We had a room with a private pool on a terrace above. Amazing views and we loved watching the pelicans glide overhead! The bedroom did't have good reading lights, nor a master switch at the bed to turn all lights off. Lots of random switches which didn't seem to do anything. Minibar fridge really didn't have much effect. But nothing of serious note! Taxis in to town were extremely expensive (USD 25 each way for a 10 minute ride), as they had a monopoly. For an expensive hotel we were surprised there wasn't a shuttle available.
- Stefan (1/5): Terrible service. Daily loss of power/AC. Understaffed. - Enjoyed that it was beachfront given the remote location. Unfortunately the maintenance was subpar given the price. Secluded and inaccessible. If you don’t have a car, don’t book here.
- Eric (8/5): Very good - Staff was friendly and accommodating. Room was nicely appointed and the fridge was stocked with my favorite Mexican Beer. The restaurant food was mediocre, but the wait staff was amazing.
