Guest Reviews
- Frank (10/5): Rien à redire - Accueil service localisation Rien
- Hugh (10/5): -
- Barbora (3/5): - The staff were amazing, lovely. The price was not right at all. We were greeted at the hotel by thousands of mosquitoes, who immediately attacked us. For the price we paid for two nights and two rooms, as the owner of the hotel I could have bought thousands of repellents for the drawers. The hotel equipment is really very old. The food in the restaurant was inedible. I'm not spoiled, I travel all over the world, but the quality and price ratio is not right.
- Iris (10/5): We had the best time, I can not recommend this place enough. - It was so peaceful, the food was incredible and very authentic and the hot spring was bliss.

- Samba (10/5): Best location - The best location , atmosphere and just everything. Would highly recommend staying here and overall Nara is not for just a day trip - to wake up in here and see the deers all over without crowds arriving is another level of experience.
- Marilyn (10/5): - Really loved our stay, we were treated like royalties - thank you. Staff and service were amazing. Location near the park was wonderful. Breakfast and dinner absolutely delicious! Wish we stayed longer and would definitely return back. We definitely had an exceptional experience.
- Cara (10/5): Perfect ryokan stay in Nara - Everything you’d expect from an exquisite authentic traditional 100-year old Japanese inn. Hospitality galore, beauty around every corner, welcome tea ceremony, Onsen bath, multi course dinner, floor futons in a room with several sections. Take the in-room shiatsu massage option! Food is adventurous, not made for kids.

- Saul (10/5): Shikitei a memorable experience - We loved every single second of our stay at Shikitei, it was amazing in every sense, Personal was so friendly and always on top of things, their care and attention to details was very impressive, we felt so loved and well taken care of. The food was another level of experience, all the courses were delicious!, the room: was the best addition to our trip in Japan, waking up to so beautiful views and even before sleeping we could see some deers from our room, we also had a massage in the room which was so relaxing after many days of walking in Tokyo and Kyoto.
A must experience if you stop by Nara! thanks to the wonderful team, it was a memorable experience and will definitely will go back! we were a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, they enjoyed so much wearing their PJ's and sleeping on their beds, and the dinner was so thoughtful they ate everything. thank you! Nothing

- Gabriel (10/5): - Estado do hotel Nada
- Angelica Margari (8/5): INTO THE WILD - Excellent service and the staff reach the japanese standard food
- Charlotte (10/5): - Very traditional Japanese experience, staff are very helpful and kind Prepare for silence, very humble staff
- Paul (10/5): - We found our stay at Shikitei to be truely exceptional from our arrival to departure, all of the staff were incredible helpful and our stay far exceeded my expectations, I would thoroughly recomend a stay at Shikitei to anyone.
- Daniyil (8/5): -
- Xiao (10/5): Wonderful and I am sure it’s underrated as a 3 star hotel. It’s should belong to world small luxury hotels group - Location is the best the service and the very spacious room superb the hotel is boutique style and offers authentic Japanese experience. The hotel itself is a beauty of Japanese architecture and garden. Nothing

- Sekiguchi (8/5): -
- anders (8/5): Great Japanese style and feeling located on the very edge of the park. Service minded and friendly staff - Service minded and sweet staff taking good care of us. Great location between the park and the city centre. Small but nice bathing and dining area. Parking.
- Barnech (10/5): The best Ryokan in Nara, the people there were absolutely adorable. - It’s a very beautiful place, with the view of the park, and the deer. Nothing
- Haibo (9/5): -
- Laura (10/5): Great for Nara park. - Location was excellent Nothing
- Davide (10/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): Beautiful Accommodation Next to Deer Park - From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, the staff at Shikitei do everything they can to make sure your stay is perfect. Welcomed by a tea ceremony, we were then introduced to our suite the size of a house.
Extremely comfortable with everything you need and the accommodation borders on Nara Deer Park and only a 10 minute walk to the train station or the historic district.

- Elina (10/5): -
- Pat (10/5): This ryokan is a timeless beauty! - I loved our stay at Shikitei with its timeless beautiful, excellent service and scrumptious food. I will definitely have to come back!
Excellent location - Ryokan is situated right at Nara Park!
This traditional ryokan has kept it timeless beauty with breathtaking views. It is well maintained with lots of care.
Excellent service from the staff. They were always tucked away but quietly waiting to see if you needed anything. The staff were local and so English wasn’t fluent but there were no communication issues.
The welcome tea ceremony was a traditional one. The matcha tea was frothy and slightly bitter served with a small red bean cake sweet. We wouldn’t want to try it anywhere else such a great experience! After this we were brought to our room where there was yet another yummy plum salty tea with small sweet!
The room was beautiful with excellent view! The futon sleep with the stiff pillow was so comfy!
The Onsen at the ryokan opens early and closed later. The facilities were great with all bath amenities provided.
Our stay had half board with kaiseki dinner and then traditional Japanese breakfast. Both meals you will be enjoying a work of visual art and scrumptious melodies of flavours. Beside us were all Japan nationals so you know you are at the right place of their own resident visit for short vacays!
Such a magnificent stay! I will definitely return!!!
- Tatiana (8/5): -
- Leigh (6/5): The staff is lovely as was the location, but the facility and food was not the best. - The location is wonderful The lodge is a bit run down and the food was not very good and quite expensive. I wouldn’t order the dinner again.
- Jose (10/5): -
- Jong Jin (10/5): -
- Gracie (6/5): Disappointing - Great location, staff were very sweet and we were really looking forward to a Ryokan stay but sadly left very disappointed. We would have appreciated being shown how to dress properly in the traditional clothing and to be given slippers as we found the communal areas to be very cold.
The room was nice but very harsh white lights which didn't match the energy of the place and made it not as relaxing to stay in the room.
The food was very bad, multiple courses we couldn't eat due to how tough the meat was and it being served room temperature rather than hot. We also would have loved to have eaten in our room rather than a big cold communal room.
What we really did not like was that whilst at breakfast early in the morning, we went back to a room where our beds had gone and they had removed all our drinking water (We had no drinking water at all, until late at night).
We still had 2hrs+ before check out and the total clean up of our room made us feel like they had already checked us out, with nowhere to really lie down and relax comfortably.
- Qingchun (9/5): -
- Angela (9/5): Comfortable, amazing locations and traditional setup for a complete traditional experience - We had a wonderful stay at this Japanese-style accommodation in Nara. One of the highlights was being able to see deer right from our window — a magical sight that made the experience truly special. The location is perfect as well: just a 5-minute walk to the main lake attraction full of deer.
They offers the option to book a massage, and the onsen is good — relaxing, clean, and beautifully designed. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with a tea ceremony, which made our stay feel even more authentic and memorable.
Our Japanese-style room was beautiful and spacious, with a very comfortable layout. They provided pajamas and yukatas, which added an extra level of comfort and helped complete the traditional experience.
Sadly we couldn’t taste the delicious restaurant people speak about, because they required to book the dinner and breakfast minimum 5 days before
Overall, it was a peaceful, immersive, and delightful. Highly recommended!
- Hui Chin (9/5): -
- Haven (10/5): - The staff was so polite and accommodating. We speak zero Japanese, and there was never an issue. Even though dinner takes 5 days' advance notice, they were willing to accommodate with 4 days' notice. When we checked out, there was an extra charge (for the dinner we had requested), and we left without paying by accident. They found us down the street to let us know, which I really appreciated! SO happy to pay for the service. Thank you!
- Claude (10/5): Magnifique - Tout était parfait
Le personnel exceptionnel
Le repas est petit déjeuner excellent Rien
- Jaroslav (10/5): -
- kenneth (10/5): Delightful stay at Shikitei, a hard to find traditional ryokan well located near Nara Park. -
- Chun Kit (10/5): Very nice traditional Japanese style hotel, next to Nara Park - It’s a very traditional Japanese style, startup at 1899 which has over 125 years history. The interior was revamped, we enjoy the peaceful and friendly service from the staffs.
Hotel’s location is excellent, next to the entrance of the Nara Park. They also offer a traditional Japanese Mocha Tea, in a tea room as a welcome drink, we love it very much.
You can request in room massage service, there are 40mins / 60mins two options. The price is reasonable. The hotel offer 2000JPY F&B credit for each adult, so that we tried to use the credit for drinks in the dinner.
However, the 2000JPY F&B credit was deducted by the welcomes tea. We don’t expect the welcome tea needs to paid extra money.
I think the 2000JPY F&B credit better the change the wording to “Traditional Japanese Mocha Tea offered as welcome drink” should be much more better
- Shlomi (10/5): - A lovely place at the edge of the deer forest. A marvelous Japanese hosting with a welcome drink and tea set to the room. We had 2 different rooms. Japanese style. Very spacious. We preferred Yoro, but both excellent. The staff is very friendly. Location is very good, right at the park entrance and 10 walking minutes to the center.
Highly recommended. None

- Aaron (9/5): The hotel gave us a historically accurate experience and this felt exciting! - It was spacious and clean and original (felt like we were living in the olden days), the breakfast was extremely amazing and good and kept me full for a long time. One blanket sheet had a stain on it
- onyx (10/5): Beautiful experience - This is very intimate experience and lovely place to stay, the location are amazing and staff warm, nice. The food incredible. Nothing
Personnel exceptionnel.
Excellente découverte du petit déjeuner japonais Rien. C'était parfait.
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Catarina (7/5): Nice but overpriced ryokan - Staff were very friendly. The welcome matcha was delicious. The ryokan is a renewed building and the rooms are well laid out. It is located within Nara park and it has free parking, which we used. Note that you will sleep on the floor: in our case five of us slept together in a single family room with a small bathroom. Not exactly comfortable. Also, the breakfast is underwhelming, for the exorbitant price we paid. It is a traditional Japanese breakfast (with fish and soup) but not even a decent green tea was available, and we had better orange juice at 7-11!
- KR (10/5): - Guest out style typical Japanese amazing welcome
- World traveler1983 (10/5): - Funcionários muito simpáticos. Uma experiência tradicional completa.

- Marco (9/5): -
- Miriam (10/5): Amazing place! - The staff did everything to make our stay amazing. The location right next to the park was superb... We even had deer in the garden!
What an amazing place!
- François (9/5): -
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional - Very polite and helpful. We had the private room and had dinner and breakfast in our room. It was a must do experience. Also the location was very good on the border of Nara park Nothing really.

- Nicolas (7/5): Good -
- Marina (10/5): Best ryokan experience! - Location, ambiance, staff, service, room Slight smell
- Mala (9/5): Fantastic Property & Wonderful Staff - We liked the authentic property and attention to detail. Liked it all!
- Duangjai (10/5): Shikitei is a traditional Japanese style hotel with excellent service! - We very much enjoyed our stay at Shikitei. The service was exceptional from the time we were greeted at arrival until the time we departed. It is in an excellent location and right at Nara Park where we can see deer from our room. Staying at Shikitei made our Nara visit more memorable! Really nothing.
- Zuzanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gianmaria (10/5): Exceptional - Top position and a really intriguing experience. Staff is really kind. We suggest this hotel to anyone wants a typical and charming solution to stay in Nara
- Elaine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely incredible place to stay. The staff were impeccable in every way and the tea ceremony was beautiful. The Shikitei is a must stay when visiting Nara.
- Kate (9/5): Lovely stay in authentic Japanese house - Amazing friendly service and a gorgeous authentic Japanese room with tea and snacks on arrival. Perfect location right next door to Nara park. Bags taken to room for you, shoes heated and dried. Really professional and luxury. It didn’t really matter but maybe communication could have been slightly better. When we arrived we found out there was a tea ceremony included that we didn’t realise so didn’t end up having time for. Communication before check in was probably less than we had from other places in Japan but again no issues at all when we arrived. Maybe check in earlier than 3pm would work better if there’s lots of activities for people to do in the accommodation otherwise there’s no time when you’re only in Nara for one night.
- Consilia (9/5): A beautiful ryokan with friendly staff. - The staff were delightful and the room was very spacious with multiple areas. We were welcomed with some tea and sweets. There was an option to have a massage in our room which we booked. It was fabulous! Free breakfast!?
- Etsuko (6/5): Pleasant -
- James (10/5): Wonderful Japanese Ryokan experience and near Nara Park to visit bowing deers - It’s the best of Japanese style Ryokan hotel that we have experienced in Japan so far. The personalised service is warm and wonderful. It reflects Japanese culture in a respect of people who are ultra-polite, diligent, thoughtful, meticulous and artistic tasteful.
good location - Nara Park… etc. and local specialty shopping streets nearby. None
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Very traditional Japanese Ryokan. Traditional Japanese food served. Staff members were very friendly and polite. Nothing in particular. The food is traditional Japanese food and might not suit everyone.
- Yong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nena (9/5): A very relaxing, unique and memorable experience - Had an amazing time at this Ryokan in the middle of the Nara deer park. Location is great. I’d highly recommend going here for a night in the middle of your trip to rewind and relax. We picked the traditional dinner and breakfast which was a unique experience. The food was indeed very Japanese as mentioned in some reviews, and with that I don’t mean fried katsu or loaded ramen. You need to have a bit of an open mind for different foods as the flavors and textures can be very unusual to Westerners. But I really liked the experience! Staff is extremely friendly and calm, the bath was nice, the public bath allowed for tattoos and the room and sleeping on the tatami was also very cozy! This was a highlight of our trip. We had to walk through the Nara park and through the wave of tourists and deer with our luggage which was a bit if a struggle, but fortunately it’s only a 10 minute walk.
- Megumi (8/5): Very good - Right beside Nara Park. Nice atmosphere, nice staff
- Tijn (8/5): Very good -
