Guest Reviews
- Charlotte (9/5): A special experience of sake, food and ancient onsen water source. - Excellent food and service - especially the pairing of sake with dinner. Elaborate breakfast. Private onsen.
- Hsinyi (10/5): -
- Su (10/5): very special place to just relax and enjoy the most special dinning - the staff and the food hard to get to if you are using public transportation.
- Bee (7/5): Not worth the price - In room onsen The ceiling of room 101 is stained and basin outside toilet choked.
Breakfast was disappointing. Only cold dishes, 2 soups, rice and omelets. Don’t even have grill fish which is typical for a Japanese breakfast set. Dinner was good but do not think worth a Michelin star
- Yoko (8/5): Very good -
- Eugene (10/5): Absolutely stellar experience - the highlight stay of our Niigata trip. - The service when we arrived was absolutely stellar, on top of the amazing hospitality shown Yukiko-san asked about our itinerary and provided us with additional preparatory information which was an absolute lifesaver after the long drive! When we went into our room we found our coats already hung up and its these little things that make the service just so impressive. I also had to wake up the poor staff at around 12AM because we wanted to drive to a konbini nearby, but he was so helpful about it.
The room itself was extremely luxurious, warm and comfortable. Everything was extremely clean and well-kept, and my favourite thing was the open-air bath which we were able to enjoy multiple times.
The dinner was absolutely top-notch and extremely good value for what was paid. The ingredients were fresh and quality, but the culinary skill applied was nothing short of perfection. One of best meals I've had in Japan and I come very often. Nothing at all! It is about 15 minutes drive from the next closest town but that does not take away from its charm at all because the quietness and calmness of the location is what gives the property its calm and serenity. Nothing to complain about at all.
- Linette (10/5): a delightful stay, would like to return in the future. - breakfast was excellent, it didn't seem much at first but once you started, the flavor of the different vegetables accompanied by the selected rice was incredible. Also loved the sake pairing of our French dinner.
- Christine (10/5): Lovely Frenchy hotel in the countryside - We love the ensuite rotemburo, so very convenient and pampering! The food by chef Aklra san was simply awesome, the wine pairing was fabulous too; and the staff is so welcoming and sincere, kudos to Yukisan who even went out of her way to accommodate special arrangement for shuttle service!
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the customer service and overall hospitality. Loved the facilities and they were very clean. We also really enjoyed the tea, sake, and snack bar. The hotel felt very luxurious and was most comfortable. The price is a bit high, but considering its location, the fact that you get a private onsen, and the care/service that goes behind every meal, we were willing to pay and we felt it was worth it.
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marco (10/5): Wonderful experience staying at Tamakiya - Few reasons we chose to stay in Tamakiya:
-It locates in a countryside helps us slow down a bit and enjoy the snowy nature.
-Great experience while enjoying the in-room Onsen + seeing snowing right in front of us.
-Tamakiya offers some great food, both nights we selected the French cuisine with wine, sake pairing. The food was delicious and Yuichi-san shared his marvelous sake pairing technique by bubbling it, added an extra favoring in which the goal is to refine our tasting journey. Of course traditional kanzake (warm sake) was served too during the dinner course.
- Chek (10/5): Excellent stay and impeccable service - Exceptional service. Attention to details. Great dinners and breakfast. And, of course, the sake. I booked my stay 6 mths ahead. Tamakiya's hostess, Yuki, was always prompt to reply and even made timely advise on the day of arrival. Hotel provided boots and umbrellas for the snowy weather, which was thoughtful. The chef (Akita) and sommelier (Yamagishi) lived up to their reputation. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly NA
- Anna (10/5): overall it was the best ryokan I have stayed during our 24-day japan trip! we were very well looked after by the ryokan& - its small size (only 8 suites), adults only ryokan. the rooms: big, comfortable and with indoor & outdoor private onsen. nothing!
- Anna (10/5): Superb! Excellent! - Everything!!! From the moment you arrive until you leave, the owner & staff are at hand to greet, assist, etc.
There are only 8 comfortable rooms in this ryokan with in-room onsen and there is also a shared onsen which were very well maintained and clean!
Owner is a certified Sake Master & Wine Sommelier who personally managed our (opted) sake pairing excellently with our superb Michelin ⭐️dinner. Thank you!
We will definitely look forward to future visits to this ryokan!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nothing!
- Nguyen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jason (10/5): Be amazed. - The staff are experts in hospitality and friendly. They arranged a shuttle to pick us up from the local station. The Japanese style room is so inviting and comfortable. The dinner was so good I'm speechless. The wine and sake pairings were fantastic. Soaking in your own hot spring after dinner, while taking in the view is divine. If you have the chance to stay in this area, put yourself in their care. You won't regret it.
