Guest Reviews
- Thobela SHARONA (10/5): Relaxing - Breakfast was good. You need a bakkie for the road. None
- Kenneth (7/5): Wonderful family holiday destination. They should market it as such - Beautiful spaces on the property and rooms are spacious, clean and well decorated. Food is absolutely delicious each day! Not your usual basic buffet, really well thought out and not wasteful. Service was great. Just to be clear, I had a wonderful time there. For context, I went on a solo trip. Now, if you’re looking for a solo trip, calm space, minimal noise, minimal interaction, this may unfortunately not be suitable for that. I was rather surprised at how many guests can with kids. Lovely kids I must add and their parents too. As a result, obviously, it can get very family centric and as a solo traveler you may feel out of place or overwhelmed. The servers are under a lot of pressure from the families and it appeared like they got first priority. I didn’t mind but if you’ve paid premium for a nirvana experience, this may throw you off a bit.
Now what I didn’t like - the GM of the hotel went round speaking to various guests, never once even said hi to me. That was odd. At dinner the chef would walk round interacting with guests at different tables. Never once did he say even greet me. It may well be that I may have given a do not disturb aura but I found that rather awkward.
I also found booking the massage a challenge - I had to wait and follow up twice to get a confirmation of a different time. That wasn’t nice. Ended up cancelling it.
I found pockets of enjoyment within the system. I wouldn’t go back though.
- Lekgwathi (10/5): - The overall Service Nothing
- Maake (10/5): it was great and i will be returning soon. - The location is beautiful, breakfast is beautiful, the chef is new and i could tell he was trying out new meals. lunch and dinner a solid 6/10 while breakfast was a 10/10. overall, it a beautiful property and i will be returning soon. lunch and dinner was a miss and hit for the 2 days we were there. 1
- Bongani (9/5): Incredible stay! - Had such a beautiful stay at Letamo. The place is peaceful, the atmosphere is incredible, and the Boma dinner was absolutely amazing. Truly a memorable experience. Highly recommended!
- Veronica (10/5): perfect - staff and safari guide excellent. food was a bit slow must rather cook breakfast in front. cannot dish everything of the counter and stand and wait for eggs to come from the back kitchen.
- Penny (9/5): - Being in the bush in a premises like lemato was lovely. They are alot off activities to keep adults and kids occupied. We really enjoyed the pool and the paddle court.
- Thando (10/5): -
Nada

- David (10/5): Amazing 4 day experience. Exceptional Game Drives. Thank you Patrick. - An amazing stay. The most friendly and helpful staff. Food was exceptional, room comfortable and had everything you need.
Big shout out to Patrick, our Game Guide. Went over and above to make our game drives the most amazing experience.
We have been on dozens of game drives over the years and these were up there with the best.
The park is big so you experience a real safari, rather than a controlled zoo like experience.
You have to work hard to find the animals, but when you do it makes the experience so much better.
Patrick's knowledge was exceptional, not only about the animals, but also trees, habitats and African culture.
Can't wait to return. Leaving!!!
- Sello (6/5): - Its tough reaching the place. Rioads are bad and signage is poor Not being able to reach the place easily. Also the fact that they returned to the rail the towels that i put down for washing

Would recommend anybody to go here and just rest! The Spa was also very nice and quite.

- Cheryl (10/5): Thanks guys for a memorable 60th birthday celebration. - Clean.
Lodge manager, Dane and his staff went out of their way to make our stay most memorable.
Dylan was a fantastic game ranger to us. He’s most informative.
- Yann (9/5): Wonderful family-friendly private reserve! - Letamo is a beautiful private reserve set in great location. Easy drive from Pretoria/Johannesburg. The last stretch of gravel road is best suited for a high clearance vehicle. The place is family friendly. My wife and I were very impressed by the care taken to ensure that our toddler was comfortable. Looking forward to visiting again!
- Gumede (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emelda (9/5): EXCELLENT AND ENJOYABLE - LOCATION IS TO MUCH GRAVEL TO GET THERE. FOOD IS NICE AND FRESH THERE WAS A POWERCUT AND COULDNT ACCESS THE INTERNET, BUT OVERRALL AWESOME PLACE
- Livhuwani (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thando (10/5): We were celebrating our anniversary and theattention to detail to make our stay memorable was not spared. Exceptional - The lodge is great, intimate, modern but gives an amazing safari feel. The staff at Letamo are well trained, kind and extremely attentive.
- Burger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joy (10/5): 10/0 - We had a wonderful stay. The kids entertainment was perfect for my 6 year old. Our game driver Patrick was very knowledgeable about the local species. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They made my birthday trip very special with their surprises. Thank you I really appreciated. Nothing
- Monakhisi (9/5): True retreat - The stay was absolutely marvelous, Sello was our waiter and he was absolutely incredible and went the extra mile. The entire staff was amazing. The game drive with Patric was refreshing he went out of his way to accommodate.
- Sidhika (8/5): Beautiful Bush Escape - We had the most amazing trip to the lodge. The game drives and our guide were exceptional. We saw most of the big five on our first game drive! The hotel is lovely. The rooms are huge, comfortable and furnished with great amenities. We loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat. Thank you so much. What a lovely lodge!
- Twoboys (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dlamini (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenton (3/5): Very disappointing - not peaceful at all. - It was good . Good selection of food - lunch - the deserts could have had more variety. Comfortable room but clean towels weren't provided on a daily basis - damp towels had to be hanged up outside to dry for use again. You had a " billionaire" guest staying during the same time. He was allowed to erect his own boombox speakers on the patio were the pool and Restaurant is situated. He was allowed to play HIS choice of music very loudly with no regard for other guests. He dished out roll of notes to attending staff. His music was so loud ( in a public area) we had no peace and quiet in our room. One comes to a Game lodge to experience peace and tranquility. This was NOT the case. Your reluctance to deal with that particular guest spoilt our entire stay.
- Mukhethwa (9/5): Fabulous - The rooms are spacious and decorated with attention to detail 👌🏽Love the kids zone which is not common in most game reserves, making this a child friendly choice.
The food was great, the staff always ready to assist. Vivi our guide was the best, we learnt a lot from our game drives and they were pleasant through out ✨ Nothing
Perfect
- Bhengu (1/5): Disappointed and hurt. - I did not actually stay here. I was about to get into the bed and there was a 1000 tiny bugs on the bed. They literally traumatized me, because I was itching the whole day after this. I almost sat on them but quickly saw them. Apparently it's due to the thatch roof and it's seasonal. And because the lodge has been around for a while. Shakira and Pieter basically told me this is normal in the bush and they harmless. If you ever seen fear factor, Google it, but that type vibe. So I left and was promised a full refund. 3 days later booking.com has gotten no response from them. Really disappointing for the caliber of lodge it is. I truly did not expect, first the tiny insects and two Letamo expecting me to fight for this. Really disappointing. Was at Babohi the previous night and best experience really enjoyed it. They ruined my Qwabi tour I had planned by simply not checking everything before showing me to the room. Those tiny insects traumatized me i could not get another room. Well I'm still waiting for my refund.
- Sabine (9/5): Superb - The food was excellent as well as the room. Spacious and serviced twice a day. The ranger tours as well were very good. Next room was very loud in the middle of the night. Reception sorted it out. At times it seemed more of a resort hotel than emphasis on busch experience.
Beverage service could be improved.
- Zanele (10/5): Total Bliss!!! A marvellous experience!!!! - It is very peaceful and the service is at another level!!! Definately going back for longer!!
Shout out to the amazing Staff!!! Esp Thelma and Lerato!! They went all out to make our stay extra special! Thank you so much!!! Nothing to fault at all! Everything was perfect!!
- Sonam (7/5): Good - The game drive was epic Service was very slow ,not very helpful
- Vhapfumi (10/5): Exceptional - Tranquil environment attention to detail. Facilities are world class Absolutely NOTHING
- Monnaotsile (9/5): Superb -
- Kirsty (7/5): Nice stay overall, just didnt have hot water, so some maintenance things need improving. - The staff were all friendly, and they cater really well to kids. I also enjoyed the food. We didnt have hot water for most of the stay, so had to have cold showers. And bath our baby in cold water. After a day they eventually fixed the hot water but they called the wrong room to notify them (my sisters room) so we didn't actually know it was fixed. Also, highly recommend you only travel to this lodge with a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle as its rained a lot during our stay and the roads were not accessible by small cars.
- Pone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Connie (10/5): Above everything else, your staff was hospitable. - Above everything else, your staff was hospitable all round. I loved everything

- Liviya (10/5): A beautiful, romantic getaway not far from Johannesburg - Letamo is a beautiful property, just 3 hours from Johannesburg. Everything - the rooms, the food, the staff and service, the ambiance, the services including the game drives and spa and padel courts - were all exceptional. We went for my husband’s birthday and they made it so special without me even asking. All staff were informed and went the extra mile. A special thanks to Lerato at dining and Hloni the game drive guide who were the best! N/A - everything was great
- Lufuno (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (9/5): Outstanding experience in the Waterberg especially for families. The staff were tremendously friendly and helpful. Loved - The beautiful rooms, the layout of the camp and the staff were just exceptional
- Nelisiwe (10/5): Exceptional - The service, accomodation and activities were top notch 👌, keep up the good work 👏
- Ntokozo (10/5): A glorious and serene experience. - The property is beautiful and peaceful. Seeing the stars at night added an extra touch of serenity to the experience. April, our guide on the game drives, is very knowledgeable and gave us extra insight beyond the animal life. It was great to also learn about the flora of the reserve. He is gifted in tracking the animals and got us an up-closing viewing of the elephants. The drive to the top of the mountain to catch the sunset was the cherry on top of cake. Thank you for an amazing stay! The food was okay. I do think more options could have been offered but it sufficed for the weekend.
- Simone (8/5): A lovely bushveld experience - lovely room, so comfortable! the outdoor eating area and pool was exceptional. the paddle court was just what my family loved! I feel the desserts were very limited - not enough variety.
- Natalie (9/5): It was relaxing . Full on board even in room , enough good & drinks . 🥤 - The full on board was amazing , game drive , friendly staff The tourism fee caught me by surprise . Was a bit much pp , the swimming pool is ice cold , need a warm pool .
Not much to do but lounge around
Remind guests to bring board games for older kids
- Samantha (7/5): It was a lovely break from the city with very friendly staff making it enjoyable. - The staff were extremely friendly, especially around the breakfast/lunch/dinner area. The food was really exceptional - the chef and his team were very creative. The gardens are immaculate. Lovely pool area. At one breakfast there weren't enough tables for all guests. The breakfast chefs were not as good and overcooked most items.
Although the food was delicious, we just found some items were cold when they were supposed to be hot.
The guide was the worst and a hypocrite. Examples: At a Rhino siting we were told to be quiet, so as not to disturb the animals. He then chiefly started a massive and loud row with another guide behind us. He also raced everywhere to see a lion, missing out on all other animals, only to come to the "siting" to find nothing. He was well over the speed limit most of the time. He kept on making excuses for everything and blamed other guides. We go on quite a few safari's and know you never shine a light or flash in a diurnal animals eyes at night. He did this on numerous occasions, especially when new guests laughed at how the antelope bounded. He should know better! He made the trip very unpleasant.
Unfortunately we know these lodges cater mainly for the overseas tourists, but they really should appreciate that local South Africans also support them. Perhaps put SA citizens in different vehicles than the tourists so that we can enjoy all the wildlife and not race through the park just to see nothing.
The road getting to the property is very corrugated.
- Nthabiseng (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was excellent None
- Joseph (10/5): Totally Awesome and worth doing it again. - The rooms, the spa, outdoor restaurant and overall ambiance of the facility being 5-star. The game drives with Petro were top notch. The food was amazing and the staff extremely friendly and ready to serve anytime. None
- Samuel (10/5): Wonderful and comfortable stay, I am returning. - A wonderful staff that I highly recommend. The staff are warm and welcoming. The food was well made, tasty and fresh. The children loved the kids club, enough activities to keep them occupied in the day. The gym facility is ultra modern and well supplied, matches the commercial gyms. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The game viewing was exceptional, very knowledgeable ranger took us on several viewings. We sighted 4 of the big 5. Reception and restaurant staff are attentive. One can see the passion for the work. We enjoyed the spa as well. All in all, great service. Nothing that we did not like. I would recommend more non-dairy options at the lunch menu.
Breakfast and dinner were well catered for. There were always options available as alternatives at all the meals. The chef was accommodating.
- Dineo (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the restaurant and the Spa
Rooms were very comfortable Something to add on would be on the breakfast selection
- Bethea (10/5): Superb - Excellent
- Petrie (9/5): Superb - Overall experience was amazing Food was nice but could do with a little improvement
- Fumane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tumelo (10/5): Relaxing, pleasant and informative stay - Lefuno and the front of house team were exceptional. April is very knowledgeable about our indigenous plant species and the animals within the reserve and he is also very friendly and he made the game drive very informative and enjoyable. To the rest of the staff thank you for making our stay relaxing and pleasurable.
- Greta (8/5): Very good -
- Thulile (9/5): Superb -
- Thato (9/5): The stay was really amazing. I enjoyed my time at the lodge! - The experience was really great.
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Kirsty (10/5): Exceptional - My third visit to Letamo and I can honestly say that it's one of the best lodges I have ever stayed at. Thank you for the special anniversary dinner and beautiful room. Staff were incredible and so thoughtful. We will definitely be back as soon as possible!
- Molefi (10/5): Excellent timeout in the midst of nature. - The warm reception we got from all staff at the property. The game drives were epic, especially with Petros.
- Phindile (9/5): It was a wonderful stay - The suites are very spacious, with elegant finishes.
The kids had adjoining rooms which was very cool for them. The staff are very friendly. The food is also very delicious 😋 The property must include the conservation levy on Booking.com, it shouldn’t come as a surprise upon check-in.
- Lindani (8/5): Lovely getaway for couples - Well cared for, clean, peace and quiet and the staff were incredible. The all inclusive package was great and the food was diverse and tasty! Spa treatment was good Not so much what we didn’t like however didn’t see much game during the game drive. It may require luck and several game drives.
- Zola (8/5): A truly 5 star experience with delightful and attentive staff. - The facilities at the Letamo are fantastic! Our suite was spacious and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast/lunch on the terrace and braai in the boma. The rooms are poorly designed with lots of warmth in the bathroom while the main bedroom is freezing cold in Winter. The food was good but mass produced buffets can never be exceptional, I would have enjoyed a plated meal at one of the sittings.
- Wesley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thandi (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (9/5): Superb - Absolutely amazing staff that did everything to make guests happy. Wonderful food from the Chef and her team. The gamedrives were great! Thank you! Nothing
- Mudadzho (10/5): It was over five star review - It was really beautiful. Everything was perfect Nothing at all.
- Selvan (9/5): Superb - The staff, food and facilities was excellent
Dinner in the game park after our game drive was an experience to remember, this was very well organized by the Lodge manager and team The 35 km gravel road to the lodge was not the best drive but they did wash the car on our return
- Riccardo (10/5): Exceptional -
