Guest Reviews
- Brian (5/5): 3 night stay is worth every penny of £150 but it's a shame we paid nearly £300 🤔 - Location, quite happily stayed several times in the past, now it's definitely not worth more than the price we paid but probably should be less than we paid Not enough room to list the issues, but, very tired pub, very tired room, rotten window sill replaced while we were out without prior warning while our personal possessions were on display, advertised a tuesday specials menu but we were abruptly refused it as not being available without any apology,
- Grace (10/5): Cozy stay in a lovely old stone lodge! - Convenient, cozy, clean , good pub food and friendly staff My Sat Nav had trouble pin pointing the property as the post code gave a different location and Google gave a ‘mailing address’!
Luckily a local resident in a near by town knew the property.
- Susannah (6/5): It was fine and did the job. - Great location on the main road. The staff worked really hard and looked like they were run off their feet and need more staffing. But they were lovely despite all that. The bedroom quite dated and bathroom was awful looked really shabby and definitely needed re doing.
- Maryam Mohamed Mohamed Moustafa (6/5): -
- Susan (7/5): Perfect location and comfy bed after a wedding at Kingscote Barn - Comfy bed, good breakfast Room was a bit tired, poor shower, no tissues in the room. Quite expensive for the quality of the room.
- Claire (8/5): Bon séjour - Lit très confortable et lieu sympa
- James (7/5): Great historic inn, competitive price. - I arrived quite late but just managed to order dinner in the pub, they shut the kitchen before 9 usually. I needed to stay another night and they made sure to shift their bookings so I could stay in the same room. Very friendly and helpful staff and a lovely historic building, can't imagine how many guests they've catered for under that roof over the centuries. Few potholes in the car park, and quite a fast road to turn in from and out onto. Drive carefully!
- Bruce (10/5): A lovely 16th century Inn and great experience! - My motorcycle buddy and myself stayed for two nights in two separate rooms with breakfast included. It was a lovely location, Doug, the manager was really hospitable, welcoming and both he and his excellent staff are a real credit to Greene King. The rooms were great and enjoying a meal and several beers in the evening in the bar was a lovely end to a day of riding around The Cotswolds. Thank you Doug for all your kindness - very much appreciated. Everything was great and I hope to visit Hunters Hall Inn again!
- David (9/5): Good - The 3 staff I had contact with were all excellent in particular the chap arranging breakfast. The shaving mirror in the bathroom is much to low unless you are a 4ft dwarf.
- Rachel (8/5): -
- Sara (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff
- Callum (8/5): -
- David (8/5): -
- Louisa (5/5): - Lovely area Our room was cancelled by greene king
- Sara (10/5): -
- Melanie (8/5): - Very comfortable bed, lovely staff, lovely food. Room was clean.
Only down side was the room was tired looking and could do with a but if TLC but apart from that worth the money overall
- Paul (8/5): -
- Sofie (8/5): -
- Geraint (8/5): Comfortable stay - Windows that open to allow the room to cool down. Good evening meal. Chlorine smell on entering the room
- Roland (7/5): -
- Natalie (5/5): The smell in room 2 was horrendous - Great proximity to Matara hotel to attend wedding. Staff were friendly We stayed in room 2 for two nights to attend a wedding and the smell in the room was horrendous, it stank of drains/sewage. We raised it with reception but they said they had no other available rooms. We actually took the plug in fragrance from the hallway but it did nothing to mask the stench. We met the people who stayed in the room the night before and raised a complaint too so it should have been dealt with before we checked in. The smell was overwhelming and it made our stay very unpleasant. The hotel should never have charged us full price and should have compensated us for what was a horrible stay. I hope they cease letting the room until they fix the problem. We were also woken at 7am by workmen using loud machinery on the property which is very unsocial and woke us up. If having works done the hotel should notify guests in advance.
- John (1/5): -
- joelle (10/5): - Perfect for our event, right across the venue. Large, comfortable bed.
- Jonathan (7/5): -
- Lorraine (8/5): - Value for money and I great location.
- Jonathan (7/5): - The bed was comfortable and location fantastic for the Matara Centre over the road. The cleanliness of the rooms wasnt up to scratch. Another guest was also in the process of complaining at reception about this when we were checking in. The rooms are also extremely dated and in a poor state of repair.
- Jane (9/5): Perfect stay.. -
- George (6/5): -
- Clarissa (7/5): Basic but very convenient and had everything we needed - Comfortable beds, basic but had what we needed. Breakfast was nice, and easy to get to.very convenient for Matara over the road. The road noise was quite loud. The rooms were a bit tired, and could do with updating. Breakfast 7-9AM is a bit early when you are on holiday or going to an event like we were. Some of our group complained of a sewage smell in their room but we didn't experience this.
- Casper (10/5): Beautiful pub with loads of character - The bedroom was spacious and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and good quality towels. The pub and breakfast room was old English with loads of cool features and character! Breakfast was tasty and the staff friendly and always ready to help. Can’t think of anything that could’ve been better during our stay. You smashed it, thanks!
- Sharon (8/5): Great for a night or two, good base for visiting the beautiful Cotswolds. Good food, nice staff - We were walking The Cotswold Way. There were five of us. The rooms were comfortable, great value for money, good breakfast evening meal , Lovely staff. Rooms could do with a bit of an update
- Ian (8/5): - Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. Food was good and the pub was buzzing. Facilities were a bit tired.
- Ewan (8/5): Lovely place amazing food and staff, needs a little upgrade on the toilets and windows. - The bedroom itself was lovely good cupboard space , handy iron and ironing board. The staff were lovely, very friendly and nothing too much trouble. We had bedroom 3 next to an extremely busy road and the windows did not block out any of the sound out at all. The bathroom looked like an institution and the floor was not clean.
- Sara (10/5): Excellent for a solo female traveller, who is always made to feel welcome - Clean, safe and friendly
- Miller (8/5): great place with good food and good location for exploring southern cotswolds. - the staff and manager were excellent, the food was very good and the rooms were spacious and clean. overall a great place to explore the southern cotswolds from. the water pressure in the shower was non existent, the car park was full of gravel and potholes- I travelled by motor cycle but the manager allowed me to park on the paved area at the entrance.
- nigel (7/5): Nice stay - Nice staff, good food, free parking Comfortable room but desperately requires refurbishment
- Karen (5/5): Basic - Location to the wedding we went too Bathroom and lighting in the room
- Michelle (7/5): Reasonably priced . - The room we stayed in needed a bit of tlc ! Toilet flush wasn't working properly, shower was dirty , taps on sink not fitted correctly. Food wasn't great !
- Emily (5/5): It is in a lovely location & could be a very nice place to stay but it is very dated - A good selection for breakfast & lots of available space for parking All of the accommodation was very dated & it all needs redecorating, the cleanliness was quite poor & the food in the pub was very poor
- macleod (10/5): - Everything was fine.
- Sara (10/5): - Clean, safe, friendly - excellent for a lone female traveller
- Sarah (8/5): Excellent staff especially the Team Leader at breakfast this morning - rooms a little tired and bathrooms need attention - Very convenient for the wedding venue we were attending. The shower in the bathroom was very small and made the room smell damp - did not leak but needed attention. cThe hot tap in the basin was not secure and moved around when used.
- James (6/5): - Excellent breakfast. Unfortunately the hotel is in need of some tlc.
I arrived at 8.15 and the reception staff were busy in the bar, not a problem for me however once I was checked in at 8.30, the kitchen had just closed for food. The menus and Internet said kitchen closed at 9pm but I was too tired to argue.
- michael (9/5): Very comfortable and would stay again but wouldnt have breakfast. - The rooom and bed was very comfortable. It was lovely and warm. The breakfast was average
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Sara (10/5): Excellent - Cleanliness of room and friendliness of staff Nothing
- Ainara (8/5): -
- Paul (4/5): -
- fiona (8/5): A lovely experience - The food was delicious and the gentleman that was serving in the bar and on reception desk was so pleasant and helpful.
- Sara (10/5): -
- Sara (10/5): -
- Linda (8/5): room good value for price paid .Breakfast for £12 was not good - the room was clean and comfortable the breakfast was very disappointing. No milk for drinks or cereals.
- Kate (8/5): Good location, friendly staff - Great location for what we needed. Basic room but had everything we needed.
- Vic (6/5): The hotel itself don’t create a good impression on arrival on arrival. - Thought the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Property looked a bit neglected and in need of some general maintenance.
- ellie (7/5): We had a lovely stay. However, I just wanted to give honest feedback regarding our room. - The food served in the pub was lovely. We had and evening meal and breakfast it was spot on. Our room was very tired and in need of TLC.
The headboard needed replacing and the windows needed attention too.
- Danielle (9/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Paul (3/5): I did not sleep very well and was not very comfortable staying here. Lack of service - Sheets were stained with what looked like blood and the shower tray had remnants of human hair in the plug hole
- Janet (7/5): Average, not as good as expected - Did not partake in breakfast but the dinner was very good. We were disappointed with the bathroom. It was a wet room with a very slippery floor. The room was at the front on a very noisy road.
Quite a different room to the first time we stayed last year!
- Ertola (10/5): Esperienza meravigliosa, consiglio! - Personale amichevole, struttura dall’aspetto tipico, colazione buonissima. Mi sono trovata molto bene
- K (5/5): OK for a one night stay - Friendly staff, comfy bed, nice evening meal in the pub Accommodation could do with a refresh
- Diane (5/5): Wouldnt use again, despite great location. - Location good. Easy parking. The need to check in by10 wasnt clear on website before I booked a non flexible rate- stressful trying to get there on time. Room was noisy, shower temperature hard to comtrol.
- Mark (8/5): -
- Daniel Razvan (10/5): -
- Lee (9/5): -
- Poulter (9/5): - Perfect stay friendly staff and excellent position for the wedding venue we visited 😀. Nothing
- Marie (8/5): - The room was a bit tired but clean and comfortable. The bathroom could have done with a bit of a scrub around the taps and in the bath but otherwise was reasonably clean. Had an evening meal in the restaurant. The meal itself was excellent and the staff were very polite and friendly. The cooked breakfast was good but the buffet table was a bit poor. The staff member wasn't checking everything often enough and we had to keep looking for her to ask her for help. We're not precious, this was just for things like getting the coffee and juice topped up and getting a clean knife and butter for a croissant! My husband had also asked for an extra slice of toast with his breakfast but didn't get it and couldn't be bothered to find someone to ask as there was no member of staff in the restaurant.
- Mark (7/5): Nice big family rooms with separate lounge area. - Lovely big family room with twin and double beds, lounge area and bathroom of the double bedroom. Good selection of breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. No cold drinking water in the room. The bathroom cold tap would only give out warm water, however long you ran it for. We had to ask the bar staff for a jug of cold tap water to take back to our room. We also had to ask for more tea, coffee, milk for the room as not enough supplied to start with. There was mould around the twin bedroom window. All of the windows were very dirty (on the outside) and there is a large green tank obscuring the view from one of the double bedroom windows.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Jarek (8/5): -
- John (6/5): Greene King Need to spend some money on generally upgrading the condition of the building outside - Breakfast General upkeep of the exterior of the building and the very poor car park which had massive pot holes filled with muddy water!
- Sara (10/5): Excellent (again) - Bedroom - very clean and comfortable nothing
- Graham (5/5): -
- Mrs (6/5): Not a very pleasant stay - Not much Untidy and unclean
- Chiara (9/5): Un’ottima base per esplorare le Cotswolds - Ottima posizione per visitare i villaggi delle Cotswolds! Clima autentico e accoglienza familiare, buon cibo sia la sera al pub della struttura sia a colazione
- DAWN (2/5): Diabolical breakfast - Great location, friendly staff, room was clean, comfortable, and cosy. If it wasn't for the debacle of breakfast, I would've rated it 9 stars - one star deducted for no USB port in the room Breakfast. I ordered vegetarian sausage, beans, scrambled eggs, and brown toast. When my food arrived I noticed the white toaat but put that down to an easy mistake.. It wasn't until I cut into the sausage that I realised it was PORK sausage. I immediately told the staff member who was apologetic and took my plate away. Short time later my plate came back and as I was eating the sausage, I noticed the beans and eggs were cold, I looked at the photo I took of my plate when I was first served breakfast (for feedback purposes as up until that point I was impressed with my stay). I realised that they had simply removed the pork sausage from the plate and replaced it with a vegetarian sausage, so I was eating a vegetarian sausage that was sat in juices from the pork sausage Clearly, they don't care about cross-contamination when it comes to meat eaters & vegetarians. I wasn't complaining again as I lost all trust in the food department.
- Lorraine (8/5): - Quaint old coaching inn, restaurant and bar area. Plenty of choice for eating and drinking without having to travel. Good sized bedrooms and very comfortable beds, nice big bathroom. It was a little bit isolated on a main road.
- guy (2/5): - bed was really uncomfotable. Rock hard. Gave me sore hips
- Brook (2/5): -
- Jonesy (10/5): -
- Daniel (10/5): - Room is amazing, very spacious and homely. Pub was very disappointing, real shame because it looks like it could be a stunning place.
- George (8/5): Good location, friendly staff, comfy beds and good value. - rural location and consequently very peaceful. Staff friendly and welcoming. No towels in room but provided quickly when reported.
- andrew (9/5): Very good experience! - Good evening mal and check in process. N/a
- Kasia (3/5): We did not stay and ended up driving home. - Unfortunately the room we were given had a bad musty smell. It was an accessible room on the ground floor which meant the bathroom was a wet room and very much resembled a hospital bathroom with facilities specifically for disabled persons. On a positive the room was a good size and quiet being a in a separate block to the pub. Despite this It is not a room we felt comfortable to stay in, particularly as we did not need or request accessible facilities. We booked through booking.com and it was poor value for money. A travel lodge would have been better. Unfortunately due to the damp musty smell of the room and the really off putting bathroom facilities, we ended up driving home in the early hours of the morning and not staying in the room. We did ask to change rooms but there were no other rooms available. It’s a shame as we very rarely have a night away from home and we were looking forward to the experience of staying in a cosy Cotswolds pub
- Carl (8/5): -
- Sara (10/5): Excellent - Location excellent, friendly staff, accommodation very clean and comfortable Nothing
- Jack (1/5): Had to book alternative accommodation - Was awful. Did not even stay. Beds were uncomfortable, mattress zero support. Bathroom grim and dirty. Decided it was uninhabitable and booked a different hotel. Was awful. Did not even stay. Beds were uncomfortable, mattress zero support. Bathroom grim and dirty. Decided it was uninhabitable and booked a different hotel.
- Georgina (7/5): -
- Isobel (9/5): -
- David (5/5): Great value - The staff are very pleasant, the food was nice, bed was really comfy, room lovely and warm, probably needs updating Carpets
- S (9/5): Excellent all round - The location was excellent, the staff were very helpful the rooms were clean, the bed comfy and good extra pillow.
Food was good too The overall hotel could do with a bit of a refresh, the bathroom especially was quite tired.
- Godwyn (8/5): -
- Angharad (10/5): Couldn’t fault it! - We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay here.
The room was lovely and warm, beds very comfortable, and room was equipped with everything you needed.
We had both dinner, and breakfast and the food was lovely on both occasions.
Staff very friendly,and knowledgeable.
Amble parking.
We would definitely stay again. N/A
- Carl (8/5): -
- Mary Clare (9/5): Very comfortable and excellent value for money stay in a country pub. - It was the perfect location, in the countryside, and very reasonable price for the room and meal we had on a weekday. Friendly staff. The room was on the ground floor with it's own access. A large bedroom room and bathroom. Controllable heating. Extra children's beds, If needed. Ironing board and iron. Quiet, with parking. Very clean.
Lovely Full English breakfast. Some cosmetic decorating could be done. The TV channels were limited.
- Declan (6/5): Sound place to stay if you need to be in the area. - Good location for where we needed to be. Nice pub and plenty of parking. Good size room and very warm. Over priced for the room but maybe due to the time of year. Bathroom in desperate need of redecoration/upgrading.
- PETER (10/5): -
- Vicki (4/5): Overpriced for the quality of hotel. - Good location, nice breakfast, helpful staff It was grotty. The radiator in the second room was inaccessible, so it was boiling all night. The main door didn’t open and close properly. The carpark is lethal, massive potholes everywhere. Generally run down and in desperate need of updating.
- Gemma (8/5): -
- Richard (9/5): Very affordable stopover - Helpful and friendly staff. Warm and spacious room with a good sized TV. Good hot shower. Comfy beds. Good value food at the pub next to the accommodation. Filling breakfast. Affordable overnight accommodation. The room was a little tired and gloomy, with cobwebs on the ceiling. Carpet could have done with a thorough vac
