Guest Reviews
- Gary (9/5): Great place to stay, I'll be back in a couple of weeks! - Room and en-suite bathroom looked brand new. Very clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and the food was delicious, steak for dinner and a great full Welsh with locally sourced breakfast - didn't need much else for the rest of the day!
Free park opposite.
This is a great base for exploring the area. Great to support the local community without the hotel chain prices.
- sarah (10/5): - Liked that the Inn retained it's Welsh Mining and railway heritage . Very comfortable, friendly staff
- Jeroen (10/5): Fantastisch verblijf. - Zeer vriendelijk personeel.
Helemaal niks
- Rebecca (8/5): - The proximity to the town amd train station. The building os beautiful with lots of history and friendly staff.
- Jerry (9/5): Visiting family over Easter - The food. The staff. The location. The locals - Yes, they were all very friendly. I liked sitting outside the Cresselly in the evening and watching the sun go down. I plan to book again for next Easter! I thought that the room was a bit small; But I soon got used to it. The shower was great and I got to watch back episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show. A small thing; but when you're staying in a hotel small things matter.
On the whole, my stay was a very positive experience! 😊
- Ruth (10/5): Perfect 3-day stay!! - Fabulous inn in the heart of Mountain Ash. Really can’t fault anything about it; the rooms are very comfortable and well-furnished, the staff are very friendly and professional, and the food is spot on. We will definitely be returning in future and would recommend the inn to anyone. N/A
- Jason (7/5): We had a lovely Easter break. Relaxing and enjoyable. - The location was perfect for our stay and the rooms lovely clean and new. The staff were very friendly and welcoming 😊. The breakfast was also very good. Sadly we had to leave our dog as the rooms are not dog friendly.
- Shannon (9/5): Lovely rest in the hills of Wales - Beautiful location. Friendly and helpful staff Can’t think of anything

- Daniel (10/5): I would recommend to anyone to stay here, I would book again, without hesitation. - The Staff, all of them are really accommodating and friendly. The room had everything I needed. Lovely and clean. Go down stairs and make new friends in the public bar. I was able to walk to all of my destinations. Really nice surroundings too. Free parking.
- Fern (9/5): Excellent. Can't wait to visit again. - Beautiful location, so pretty. 2 mins walk across the bridge to the train station and just a short walk into town.
Parking no issue at all with a free carpark directly opposite the hotel.
The rooms have been beautifully renovated. Comfy bed and lovely shower.
Staff were excellent. So genuinely welcoming, friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble.
Downstairs has a lovely bar with a log fire, frequented by locals, amazing for a good natter.
There was even a pub quiz, which we failed miserably, but was great fun and all for local charities.
Great choice of drinks and the food was delicious. Massive pub sized portions....we recommend the Hunter's Chicken :)
We were treated like family from the moment we arrived. Just excellent!
Thank you for such a wonderful stay. Only slight niggle is the windows in our room don't cut out sound from outside....however it's such a quiet location, it wasn't really an issue.
- Olga (10/5): A comfortable, well-kept inn in a beautiful riverside mountain setting, ideal for a relaxed and practical - Booking was easy and straightforward. There is plenty of parking on the road, plus a small car park directly opposite, which was convenient.
The inn is situated between two mountains and right on the riverbank, which made for a pleasant setting. We had a quick walk there in the morning.
The beds were very comfortable. I requested a disabled access room mainly to ensure there were two beds, which worked well for us. The room had tea-making facilities, a good kettle, and an excellent shower. We also appreciated the thick carpet, which made the room feel warm and comfortable.
The room was freshly decorated and finished to a good standard. Overall, a comfortable and practical stay.
- Yasmin (9/5): - Nice and clean, friendly staff, parking was easy, nice view from the room I stayed in.
- JOHN (9/5): Freshly renovated and a young freindly helpfull staff. - Good Breakfast.
- Joerg (10/5): So bad that my time run so fast, but I want back and stay there again . Thanks Peter!!👍🏻🇩🇪 - Great Place to stay, friendly and fantastic hospitablety. Enjoy my Time during the day start withe the full english breakfast and my Dinner as well. None
- Reginald (10/5): Very enjoyable have every intention of returning - Both were excellent & so was the evening meal we had Nothing really
- Ric (10/5): Excellent, best nights sleep and breakfast for a long time. Will certainly return - Modern, spotless, comfortable and well equipped rooms. Staff were very accommodating. TV and coffee maker in room were quality items and a good selection of beverages. Even a packet of shortbread which went down very well as I arrived particularly late. There was also a flask of fresh milk in room for tea and coffee which I thought was an excellent idea. Certainly way exceeded my expectations for what was a very reasonable price. You will pay more for a soulless Travelodge. The breakfast was also excellent. Best I have had for months on the road. Can’t fault it at all.
- David (10/5): Very enjoyable stay will use again - The location, accommodation, staff and food quality were all excellent
- dave (10/5): - Clean comfortable room, good food, friendly host and staff
- Samuel (5/5): -
- Handy (10/5): -
- Marianne (8/5): Easy walk along river to town. Comfortable pleasant stay - Terrific. Very clean and comfortable.
- Dmitrii (10/5): Great stay while visiting South Wales - Lovely place, clean, fairly priced
- Euan (10/5): -
- perry (10/5): - The host was spot on. Lovely friendly man couldn't do enough for you and the breakfast was 10/10. I use hotels and rooms alot up and down the country this is the most welcome I have felt. Highly recommend.
- gary (10/5): A nice relaxed stay , the landlord was a vey nice gentleman and the food was great XX - Tha atmosphere and decoration Nothing
- Anna (9/5): - Perfect location for us, room was modern and clean, staff very friendly, would definitely return.
- Robin (8/5): - Proximity to shops eating places rail station . Nothing
- Nicole (7/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff, clean newly refurbished rooms. Good sized rooms. The noise from the pub was too loud and I ended up staying elsewhere. The staff were very helpful and called after I left to offer to put me in another room - if this was a different trip and I was staying up late it would have been fine but on this occasion I needed to be up at 6am so sleep was a priority.
- Chris (10/5): Great stay, lovely food, amazing staff, highly recommend, super clean and comfy rooms, 100% spot on - Great hotel with amazing staff, especially Richard and his wife who made us our lovely breakfast’s and were extremely friendly and helpful during our stay, as was the owner. We stayed for two nights and the room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The bar and restaurant serves lovely food and the quiz night when we stayed was very good. Although we didn’t do so well with the answers… it was all in great spirit and helped raised some money for a local charity. Not far from the hotel, a short walk over the railway crossing bridge is the main town which offers a few other pubs, takeaways, and other amenities so there is other things to do and see. The best thing about this place, however, was the staff, who were some of the nicest and friendliest staff we’ve encountered on our many stays in and around England, Scotland and Wales while working away. There isn’t a thing we didn’t like about our two day stay, the prices were reasonable and very very good considering the whole package, the rooms were nice and clean, quiet, comfortable and with in room amenities. I must compliment Richard and his wife for their hospitality, for allowing us to join the quiz and for their lovely breakfasts, the owner too for his lovely chats and for making us feel like we weren’t just guests, but locals. We will definitely be staying here again, hopefully in the next few weeks as we will be working close by here soon. Nothing, everything was perfect.
- Claire (10/5): Staff were very polite and friendly. Bed was comfortable room very clean. I would highly recommend - Very clean and comfortable There wasn’t anything I didn’t like
- Malgorzata (10/5): Perfect, Richard was amazing!! Unforgettable stay, learned so much! - We absolutely loved our stay at The Cresselly Inn! Richard, the owner, was amazing — so friendly and full of interesting stories and knowledge about the area’s history. We ended up having such a great chat with him, and honestly, he made our whole trip extra special.
The rooms have been recently refurbished and were really comfortable and spotless. Breakfast was delicious and super filling, and every member of staff we met was just lovely — you can tell they really care about the place and their guests.
The location is beautiful, peaceful, and there’s free parking which is always a bonus. Honestly, everything about our stay was perfect. We’d go back in a heartbeat — even just for the stay itself!
- Russell (10/5): - Great family room and very friendly staff
- Tracey (10/5): - The staff were very helpful ,was exceptionally clean and comfortable.
- Rachael (7/5): Maybe a couple more pillows as had there been two of us there would only have been one each - The room is furnished well and very clean The noise when people left the pub is too loud so maybe some secondary or double glazing especially at the front and you’re outside a bright light
When I arrived it took a good 15 minutes for the management ( I presume) to stop talking and give me my key which I thought was rude as I was the only customer! Thankfully I got offered a coffee but not great customer service
- Timms (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay at The Cresselly Inn. Super comfortable accommodation, great staff & great food. Nice surroundings, and Richard & his stuff , together with all the locals, make us feel really welcome. If you're planning a trip to Mountain Ash, I recommend staying here. Nothing
- Heather (10/5): - What a fantastic little gem we found in mountain Ash We cam for our friends funeral Richard was so attentive made a log fire for when we ate breakfast room was beautiful and clean beds are fantastic beautiful shower can't fault any thing fantastic location for us for buses and trains we will definitely be back
Thank you Richard and team keep up the great work Nothing
- John (10/5): Amazing people very friendly and helpful - Recently refurbished The shower in our room was very difficult to adjust .. from extremely hot to freezing.
- Ian (8/5): An excellent stay with stand out customer service. - Conveniently located for a nearby work meeting, the Inn was easy to find and parking options very good. My welcome from both the Landlord and his bar manager could not have been better - and that great service continued throughout. The accommodation was spotless (and new) and comfortable. This place is something of a hidden gem and great value: if I’m back in the Merthyr area, this is where I’ll stay. Nil

- Sophie (9/5): Beautiful location, comfy and great service. Highly recommed:) - Recently renovated we had the loft room which was lovely, we had ample room for our family of four. Lovely location and beautiful view. Staff were all very attentive and super friendly. We had dinner and breakfast here both really good meals. Would highly recommended and would stay again, was ideal for our four waterfalls walk. We enjoyed our stay, room was warm but made sure we had a fan to keep us cool.
- Adrian (8/5): - Nice staff, very obliging at breakfast! It was a bit hot in the room (we had a room directly under the roof)

- Rawlings (9/5): -
- Wilfried D. (9/5): - Sehr freundlicher Service, gutes Essen, ruhiges Zimmer, Parkplatz.
- Iva (10/5): -
- Herbert Fausto (10/5): - The location and and facilities.
- Paul (9/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): - The entire place is newly renovated and everything was clean and tidy. The staff and owner (on site) were friendly and quite helpful. This inn is also a popular neighborhood pub with lots of regulars of all ages. A fun vibe.
- DAVE (9/5): - Pleasant location near the river and close to the rail station. There is a free car park opposite the pub. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are very nice. The WiFi worked well. Breakfast was fine also. Unfortunately, breakfast at weekends is not served until 9am but check out is still 10am. Did ask if my departure could be put back by 30 minutes but there was no flexibility. Breakfast is from 8am the rest of the week.
- Joao Pedro (6/5): - Staff Staff
- Graham (9/5): Very good - Good Weather

- David (10/5): Warm Welcome and Great Stay – Perfect Start to the Brecon Beacons - While on my motorcycle tour through Wales, I was looking for a last-minute place to stay near Cardiff as a starting point for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park. Luckily, I came across Cresselly Inn.
The room was newly renovated, bright, and modern – very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and offered everything I needed. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed and homely atmosphere from the moment I arrived.
A special highlight of my stay was the quiz night. I had just checked in and was already invited to join a quiz team. I ended up having a lovely evening with the locals – one of those travel moments you don’t forget. I rarely feel this welcomed as a solo traveler.
I can highly recommend Cresselly Inn – whether you’re just passing through or planning a longer stay in the area. Authentic, friendly, and simply a great place to feel at home. -
- Abbey (10/5): Friendly staff, clean rooms and great location. - It has clearly been renovated recently and everywhere is fresh and very clean. Staff (specifically Richard) were welcoming, friendly and chatty especially at breakfast the next morning. Location was good as we were close to Cardiff. Also free 24 hour parking.
- Anne (10/5): Richard and his team were very pleasant and helpful.. Comfortable, clean room and great breakfast. - We were welcomed by the staff on duty when we arrived. They were friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was made to order and was very good. When we met the owner, Richard, he could not have been more welcoming and informative. The whole team were brilliant and couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. The room and bathroom were well furbished and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The evening meal we have was delicious and plentiful. There wasn't anything.
Rien. Tout était parfait !
- Jacinta (10/5): We had a wonderful stay at Cressley Inn. The rooms were spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and set in a lovely, peacefu -
- Walter (10/5): Beautiful property, newly renovated and in a quiet area. Staff were lovely and the owner was so friendly. Good food and - Beautiful property, newly renovated and in a quiet area. Staff were lovely and the owner was so friendly. Good food and drinks. Would stay here again.
- Simon (9/5): Stayed as we were visiting friends and then into Cardiff for the evening. Staff were superb got us into our room early a - Pub area was really comfortable with a log burner. Rooms had been recently renovated with en suite and nice shower Nothing
- Jacob (10/5): - Alles was perfect. Niets
- Sarah (10/5): - Comfortable room close to train station Nothing
- Frank (8/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Good rooms, lovely staff, great breakfast Nothing
- Sam (10/5): -
- Louise (9/5): Great place - Great little spot in the town of mountain ash. The rooms were super clean and modern , friendly welcome, great breakfast.
If you wanted to head into Cardiff, the train station is 500 m away and it’s a half an hour journey, if you have the Uber app it’s only half an hour or so away back from Cardiff city. Could easily stay here if you were going to an event in Cardiff .
Ideal base for walking in the Breacon or to do the four waterfalls hike. I’m only being pernickety but a small fridge in the room would be good because many of us hikers tend to make sandwiches get s an early start and take food for hikes and it would’ve been handy to keep drinks cold when the weather heats up.
Maybe a hairdryer.
- Olli (9/5): - Sijainti lähellä kylän palveluja ja helppo tulla ja lähteä autolla. Myös rautatieasema ihan vieressä eli myös junalla pääsee. Kokki valmisti aamupalan jokaiselle toiveiden mukaisesti. Erittäin ystävällinen ja avulias henkilökunta. Siistit tilat. Hellekelillä varsinkin ylimmän kerroksen huone oli melko lämmin.
- Daniel (10/5): - Room was clean, convenient location for the town centre and train station, staff were amazing. All round great hotel and pub Nothing I didn’t like , everything was fantastic
- Taylor (10/5): - Excellent place a little hidden gem staff and landlord Richard was very helpful and friendly would highly recommend this place
- Pavel (9/5): Clean , comfortable. Excellent service. - Room was very clean and newly refurbished. Compact single room but had everything you’d need. Felt very looked after by the hosts. Mattress was a bit soft to my liking
- lee (10/5): Brilliant - What a brilliant place, staff and owners made me really welcome and the food was outstanding N/A
- Ahmeti (10/5): - I recently stayed at The Cresselly Inn, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Nestled in the beautiful Mountain Ash in Wales, the inn has been newly renovated and is absolutely spotless. I booked a room with a mountain view, and waking up to that peaceful landscape was simply unforgettable.
What really made my stay special, though, was the incredible hospitality. Peter, Rich, and Hannah were outstanding hosts—warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about creating a sense of community. I happened to be there on a Wednesday, which was apparently a big night for the locals. Bikers from across South Wales gather at the pub, and the evening ends with a fun quiz night. I was invited to join in and was truly touched by how inclusive and friendly everyone was.
The Cresselly Inn isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place to feel at home. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway with a strong sense of community and excellent service, this hidden gem is well worth a visit.
- Alan (9/5): Very good value for money - Breakfast was excellent and staff very happy to help.
- Urs (10/5): Here you can really only enjoy!! - When I arrived at the accommodation with my bike, the family greeted me warmly like a king. They immediately found a room where I could safely park my bike. Everything in the accommodation was newly renovated. The room and bathroom are really nicely furnished. The English breakfast was excellent. Thank you again for making me feel so welcome. I will certainly come back again
- sanjay (8/5): - Very helpful and friendly staff, went out of their way to meet our needs. Near the hills which was picturesque.
Good breakfast.
- Stan (10/5): A rare gem! - Lovely location, great parking, very kind and attentive staff, clearly care about their visitors. Had a lovely chat with Richard who served us breakfast, knows the area really well.
- Deborah (10/5): We had a lovely 2 nights at The Cresselly Inn and will definitely be back soon - Very warm welcome from Richard, Hannah and all the team. Both dinner and breakfast were well cooked and very generous. Lovely room and very quiet, we weren't even aware of the comings and goings of other guests Honestly, nothing
