Guest Reviews
- Annie (10/5): - We loved our stay here. The staff is super friendly, it is peaceful. We miss showering under the stars and all the exotic birds singing all the time. Only downside was the heat at times, fans were not enough. The fact that the city or anything to do is far away, but we loved all the tours they offered and took advantage of these for activities. Lastly the kitchen uses a lot of oil, I wish things were not always fried so heavily.
A part ça, excellent séjour !!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The photos on the website are not reality. A lot of noise. The swimming pool is a swamp
- Terry (10/5): Fun times in the Mekong - We had a wonderful stay! The staff was super friendly and very helpful. It’s an open air eco lodge so don’t expect luxury...if you’re looking for a true, immersive experience in the Mekong delta, then stay at the Nguyen Shack! The organized tours along the river and to the floating market leave right from the lodge and are totally worth it! We would stay here again!
- Fran (10/5): Stop the world and get off! - Stayed 3 nights, be prepared to sit in a hammock with a book and wind down, went on 5.30am boat to market, a must do and a sunset one too. We took bikes out all around the waterways, use google maps as no signs! Food here very good so no need to look for restaurants. For quieter room try to be over the bridge away from pool, & bar, we tried to change but full, in the end though we loved our room up a loft ladder open to the water. It’s really quirky here and staff are simply brilliant. Helps If you like cats & dogs who live in too.
- TYSON (8/5): - Offers and authentic Vietnam experience with rustic, no nonsense accommodations! Staff was very friendly and helpful, and quality of the food was very good!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stunning location, great reasonable priced tours, yummy food and the friendliest staff!
I had a great time at this laid back hotel by the Mekhong Delta. Easily reached by fancy sleeper bus from Saigon and then a short taxi ride, this place is a great base to relax and explore life on the Mekhong Delta. I took two tours here, one evening food tour and another day trip to see the floating markets, cocoa farm and how they make noodles. Both were excellent, my highlight being eating Pho on the boat for breakfast!
The girls that work here are absolutely lovely and always have a smile and something nice to say to you. They really make the difference to your stay. Thank you!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stayed here for two nights, would recommend very highly! Staff are excellent and helped with onward travel bookings. Food was really great and good value for money. Go for a bike ride and explore the village. The puppies were a great bonus too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great - Amazing experience on the Mekong. Natural local life and great accommodation
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place with good amenities given its rustic nature. Staff is super friendly. We all had a great time.
- Lars (10/5): Great stay "in the jungle" - Great hut with a feeling of staying "in the jungle" next to the river. Very convenient for early morning trips on the river to the floating markets.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is a shack but a great experience if are willing to try it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - If you are looking for an authentic Mee Kong stay look no further. The Nguyen shack is on a very quiet section of one of the waterways with airy thatched hut shacks. The staff are amazing and the the food is great. We enjoyed the excursions including the floating market tour and bike tour where got an authentic tour of the area including an elementary school, Buddhist temple and rice factory. The kids loved to play all the kittens and puppies that reside on the premises. We loved our stay. Bring bug spray
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Authentic with great staff , tour fantastic vfm would recommend the shack to anyone who wants a little piece of authentic Vietnam . No luxury just great staff and good honest food
- Jean Claude (10/5): - Personnel tres accueillant.
- James (10/5): - The only concern was the mattress in the dorm/bunkhouse felt like concrete. Otherwise very enjoyable. Floating market tour (extended version $US25) superb. Bicycle tour 2hrs $US8 superb, incl lunch at a Buddhist pagoda come orphanage. Staff were lovely, locals very friendly. Relaxing plsce.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good homestay, friendly helpful staff with good english skills. Excellent food in their restaurant and good value interesting short tours.
- Graham (10/5): - The BEST staff in Vietnam.Second time there and going back August next year with sister for her 60th birthday. Kim SUPER. cannot help enough to all visitors.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great time! - Took great care of us. We did the sunset cruise and floating market. Everyone spoke great English and was very nice. Rooms were comfortable. Plenty of food options. Would love to stay there again.
- Penny (10/5): Love this place - Home stay experience with lovely, helpful staff. Felt like we were a million miles away from it all. We loved our rustic shack at the end of the row with just a duck on the river to keep us company. Tours were great fun especially the early morning floating market - it's a must do. Cycling around the local area was also great fun with lots of friendly locals waving hello. Food was freshly prepared, delicious and reasonably priced.
- Bogdan (10/5): 5+ - Pięknie położony nad samą rzeką w ciekawej okolicy. Bardzo pomocna i sympatyczna młoda obsługa.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice rustic, charming place
- Kaitlyn (10/5): Best place to stay if you’re visiting Can Tho - The staff are amazing! They’re all so friendly and accommodating. The tours are prefect for experiencing Can Tho. They’re organized in a way that you can do them all in a short stay and they all leave right from the Shack which is very convenient. We did the Sunset Tour, the Floating Market Tour, the Bike Tour, and the Food Tour and would recommend them all. A very unique experience and our bungalow was very cute. The food was good and it’s convenient that you can eat right at the Shack. Thanks for an amazing stay! A highlight of our trip.
- Greg (10/5): Amazing Experience, Incredible Staff - We only had one short night in the Nguyen Shack in Can Tho, but the staff went out of its way to make us feel at home and take care of us. How, Phu, and Nguyen were fantastic!
- Lisa (10/5): Awesome staff and hospitality! - The reason for giving 5 stars is because the staff is absolutely wonderful and the owners responded quickly to a concern of ours. The first part of arrival was a little rough. The taxi dropped us off at the turn off from the main road. We thought it would be a little walk. It was about 1/4 mile walk, which normally isn't a problem, but with luggage it was not pleasant. We were greeted with a cold drink, then taken by boat to the other property that they purchased a couple of years ago, which has all the amenities of original property. My husband and I had a private room with a private bathroom. There is no air conditioning, but we were fine because there were 2 fans in the room. We did the floating market the next day. It was fun to see. A coffee boat pulled up to our boat and I bought an iced coffee with milk for 10K Dong. It was fun and tasty! The tour also includes a walk around the street market. Our guide bought different things for us to try. Great experience! The property is right on one of the small river canals. It is very relaxing to lounge in a hammock an read a book. The Internet is pretty fast. Some people were talking to their families using Face Chat (I think that's what it is called) on their phones without any problem. The breakfast is great. You order off the menu and there is a good selection. You can order as much as you want. The restaurant is right there for lunch and dinner at very reasonable prices. The beer and sodas were 15-20K Dong (less than $1)
- Gabriel (10/5): Incredible hosts - It was incredible. The hosts are so friendly, witty and really fun to hang out with. I had a great time.
Excursions top
- Fran (8/5): Great vibe and wonderful staff - Such a cool place to stay in the Melonf delta. We thoroughly enjoyied the floating market, sunset tour and biking around the small streets.
- Ben (8/5): Sranang Mekong - Fantastisch personeel, leuke excursies.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A lovely experience! - This was a real rustic experience, staying in shacks on the riverside in an 'away from it all' location, very relaxing! The staff work hard at making your stay a good one, especially max who is always on hand to help or just chat with. Even tie piglet is friendly and approachable! The trips were great, particularly the market and bike ride, we really enjoyed them. There was a good choice of food and drink on offer too, reasonably priced and free fruit, tea and coffee. I would definitely recommend a stop off here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Mekong experience - Unique experience in rural area of Can Tho. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the food at the place was very good.
- Birgit u.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sehr schöne Umgebung, außerhalb von Can Tho.
- Pekka (10/5): Great stay! - wonderful place, excellent food for very reasonable prices, cool excursions included in the price, wonderful hosts! the shacks are cool. close to each other, however. did not bother us but could bother somebody else.
- female single traveller (10/5): amazing place - must stay in the Mekong Delta - I've had the loveliest time at the Nguyen Shack starting with the warm welcome including a coconut and finishing with the arranged motorbike taxi to the bus station. Consisting only of five very cute bungalows, this place has a very friendly, family style atmosphere. The host is the most helpful person showing you around the local village and being helpful at any time. The food is awesome. Overall a great experience I can only recommend!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My husband and I stayed for a weekend getaway from HCMC. The place is comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. There are only 5 rooms. We took the boat trips and also did the bicycle tour that was included. It was lovely to be able to go on the trips without feeling like you were being asked to pay a little more or sold on something every 5 minutes. The staff is very nice. Their is fruit available for you all the time and the staff welcomed us with coconut water. Highly recommend staying here!
