Guest Reviews
- Daniel (10/5): - The hotel grounds are stunning with an array of colorful flowers, beautiful birds, and short paths that easily connect you to the buildings. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ate at the restaurant several times and each meal was delicious. All of this, plus convenient access to Parque Rincon de la Vieja!
- Elizabeth (10/5): - wonderful staff and helpful wildlife guide on the premises who is very knowledgeable. lots of options of activities.
- 909assiat (2/5): Overpriced bad food with no alternatives around - Go to this place only if you want to hike all day long and are not verh hungry
- no showergel dispenser but a head&shoulders little packet
- no filtered water while the small bottle costwd USD 4
- worst pasta I ever ate : spaghetti with tomatoes puree for outrageous price. The taco sause was overprocessed. All in all, very expensive food, highly processes with no alternatives around
- no alternatives around. Village far with bad roads
- a group of young travellers (20 folks) were laughing and shouting after 10pm by the pool bar , which was closed. Thats not the fault of fhe lodge however there was no night guard to tell them off. We slept so bad
Concluding if you are not an experienced hiker who will be out all day, do not go there.
This was the worst stop and experience of our beautiful trip.
- Tami (10/5): - We booked this hotel for a short drive from Liberia, on our first day. The road is decent, but not a quick, simple drive. The property is near the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, although you must drive a little to get to the park. Hotel staff were knowledgeable about the park’s features and what was open on different days. We loved how remote and peaceful this hotel feels. Definitely use Waze to find your way to, from, and around the park. Sadly, we wasted valuable time getting lost, missing what we wanted to see.
- EliSnow15 (10/5): Perfect getaway in the hills. - True hideaway in the hills away from it all. Perfect for a short getaway or extended weekend.
Staff was extremely hospitable and accommodating.
The room was spacious and clean. The balcony provided privacy and the Mountain View was heavenly with the oversized hammock.
The walking grounds were clear and the pool was welcoming.
- Jerrold (6/5): - The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Property was in good shape and had a nice walking trail on property. We would rated this property much higher, but we stayed in room 506. This was the noisiest hotel room we have EVER stayed in. It is typically very windy in this part of Costa Rica and this unit was the upstairs unit with a tin roof. We thought the whole building was going to come down when the wind blew. I'm a sound sleeper but even I had a very fitful night's sleep while here. Yes, the road up to the lodge is attrocious but we sort of expected that based on previous reviews. Just expect to add a lot of extra time to estimates of time to get there. The restaurant was fine and service was good. Just fix the roof!
- Glenn (8/5): - We had a great stay. All the staff were very friendly. The restaurant served nice food.
- elainejdavenport (2/5): Rinconcito Lodge - Just arrived at the lodge and have not been feeling well.I offered to pay to have my meal brought to my room ,but it seems that is too much trouble and not possible.Rooms dark and no kettle or coffee maker in room.Fridge in the room is a bonus.Room is basic and very steep paths to rooms.
- Delaina (10/5): - Beautiful property with so much to do on the grounds. We were traveling with two infants and were able to do a few different lakes right from the resort. The pool was nice and the staff were wonderful. My only criticism is there is only one restaurant with the same menu every day and although it is a large selection on the menu, there really isn’t anywhere else to eat close by if you don’t have a car as this is a secluded location. If the restaurant did different theme nights or offered a different menu each night, it might make it a little bit more exciting to eat in the same place for multiple nights in a row.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely lodge with pretty rooms, the hammock was especially nice.
The local guides were very knowledgeable and passionate about the area and ecology in general.
- Shobilatha (10/5): - Hotel was very clean, good food options and the concierge arranged transportation back to the LIR airport for an early morning flight. The location is definitely remote but did have cell service and all facilities like pool, restaurant well maintained.
- simonem069 (10/5): Amazing Stay with Wonderful Staff and Tours - Our stay at Rinconcito Lodge was wonderful. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. Also, they have a very decent restaurant.
A highlight of our visit was the amazing tour with Walter—he was so knowledgeable and passionate about nature. He guided us through the stunning Rincon de la Vieja National Park, showing us fascinating wildlife and taking us on an off-the-beaten-track hike, which was truly a unique experience. We even rode back on horseback, which was an unforgettable adventure!
The rooms were simple but clean, providing everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Overall, a fantastic experience for nature lovers and adventurers. Highly recommend!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Family vacation - Nice lodge, still partially under construction. We were disappointed that the tour credit we received with our hotels.com booking wasn’t accepted by the lodge, their reason being that we didn’t book the rooms through them but through hotels.com. 🤔🙃
- Nithya (8/5): - We had to make an unplanned stopover close to airport. Glad we found this place. It is quite far from the LIR airport. Goes through 40 mins of wooded and uneven path. The lodge had pool and dining options. Close to the volcano and waterfall. There were several centipedes and insects around the property. We had to throw a few of them out from the rooms.
- Kimberly (10/5): - Rinconcito is remote. Costa Rica’s roads are horrible. But once you get to Rinconcito, you’re in a stunningly beautiful area. The staff were great, the room was perfect, the food options were good and tasted great. We wish we had scheduled more time there so that we could have explored the property itself. In the full day, we had there, we had Rinconcito’s guide, Walter, take us to both sections of Rincón de la Vieja, which was AWESOME.
- Martinou2311 (10/5): Awasome place in the rain forrest - Beautiful, great hotel. Large complex - situated on the mountainside, i.e. if you have a room at the top (which was the case with us) it is very strenuous to lug your suitcase etc. up.
The rooms are rustic but comfortably furnished - the beds are also very comfortable and the bathroom is big enough. The covered terrace with its own hammock is great.
As the hotel is isolated, the only option for eating is the in-house restaurant, which is really very good and offers a varied menu. Value for money is also fine.
Due to the location and proximity to the forest, it can get quite noisy at night because of the animals - but anyone who deliberately chooses a hotel in this location should be aware of this :-)
- SamaraInfoCenter (10/5): Relaxing getaway - My husband and I went for 2 nights; it was the perfect place to relax. Although it was raining, the place was super comfortable and great for disconnecting for a few days. The restaurant was excellent with a large variety of menu options.
The staff was super friendly and accommodating.
We would definitely go back and recommend it to friends and family.
- ptpm (10/5): Under the Volcano(es) - Tucked away in the remote forests on the slopes of the volcanoes of Rincon de La Vieja, Rinconcito Lodge is a great place to stay. 40 or so clean and comfortable rooms and cabins set in well-kept gardens teeming with bird life, plus an iguana that lives by the swimming pool.
There's an on site restaurant serving a wide range of reasonably priced meals (including five veggie options).
We enjoyed two great tours courtesy of guide Walter. The first was a full day hiking from one entrance of the National Park (Las Pailas: fumaroles, waterfalls and boiling mud) through the steep and dense forests to the other entrance (Santa Maria: sulphur pools) with a horse ride back to Rinconcito to finish. The second tour was Rinconcito's private and exhilarating zip line canopy tour, with seven cables through and above the forest.
We also loved the trail on Rinconcito 's land through the forest to the volcano mirador.
The roads to get to Rincon de la Vieja are not well maintained so 4WD is useful. But it's well worth the journey.
- rosesforever (10/5): Beautiful Lodge - the hotel is in the middle of nature. the room was nice, spacious and clean. there is a comfortable hammock on the balcony and a beautiful view. the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. the breakfast buffet was delicious, and the optional dinner was also very good. be sure to try the cocktails! we did both the ziplining offered by the hotel and the night hike and had a lot of fun on both. we felt very comfortable and would recommend the hotel at any time
- Samantha (10/5): - Beautiful secluded property. Drive in requires patience with the road conditions, but isn’t bad. Restaurant on site is convenient because you don’t want to spend time driving in and out. Hiking on property was nice and the staff were very friendly!
- Eduardo (10/5): - Really quiet
- KarinS4218 (10/5): Rinconcito Lodge - Nice lodge placed indeed in the middle of nowhere. The roads towards the hotel are bad unfortunately, so drive slowly and you'll get there. Nice and helpful staff, rooms are spacious, clean, neat. Have aircon, ventilator, mini refrigerator (first hotel/ lodge on our travel through costa rica), television, chairs, hanging spaces for clothes, very good beds, nice bathroom with walk-in shower. On the balcony a big hammock and two rocking chairs and an amazing view. The rooms are siruated on a steep hill, so you have to walk 1-5 minutes on a paved but somewhat steep footpath to get to them from the restaurant and reception. Breakfast is good (buffet) and for lunch and dinner more than enough choices which tastes good too and also reasonable priced. There are quite some bugs outside so use an insect repellent. Nice trail to waterfall on the premises. Also horseback riding and nighttour available on the premises. The horses look good, due to lack of time we didn't book this activity.
- Peishih (10/5): - Great value for this beautiful property. All the staffs are very friendly and helpful for hiking information. Only thing is that there is a blackout in late night for a few hours. Didn’t bother me much though.
- Michael (10/5): - Excellent property and good, staff were very good. I only rated “did not receive amenity” because it wasn’t clear (by the Lodge or Expedia) whether there was an amenity or what it was.
- Jessica (10/5): - Beautiful property. Excellent staff. Easy check-in. We love our balcony with hammock. Food was good. We were only here one night but were sad to leave.
- Danielle (10/5): - Activities and guides were very good.
- 13curtist (10/5): Classy and comfortable! - The room was clean and well decorated. We had a patio with a hammock and the main entrance had two chairs that we could sit outside. The landscaping was beautiful and you would see people taking pictures of the flowers or birds outside the restaurant area. The food was presented well and delicious. Friendly service too.
- Anne (10/5): - This lodge is nestled into the countryside. Beautiful grounds with lots of wildlife. The breakfast spread was enormous and delicious. The staff were super helpful with local recommendations.
- Chelesty (10/5): - Staff was very friendly and generous. The room and the common areas were clean. The pool is very nice. Our trip in costa rica was mostly activities and hikings. We decided to stay at Rinconcito lodge for a relaxing day by the pool, reading, taking casual naps and drinking. And we weren’t disappointed. We would definitely visit again.
- charlotte (10/5): - Found this place when looking for a hotel between La fortuna and Tamarindo . Then found the hot springs near by as well because of this . The hotel was easy to check into and they even let us check in sooner so we could enjoy hot springs and not worry about our belongings. We got the breakfast which was great. The rooms were clean and comfortable and staff was very friendly . We did have dinner here as well as its good only choice in the area besides the resort at the hot springs . Food was great plenty of choices however the drinks were pretty weak and watered down. Beware the roads in and out of this area have not been maintained and lots holes so give yourself time and take it easy . Was nice to have suv for this reason just to have the clearance . I would still however recommend this property.
- Asher (10/5): - We had an amazing time at this tranquil lodge. The entire staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. Walter guided us on horseback through a scenic trail on the property and shared his passion for the surrounding flora and fauna. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
- Morgan (6/5): - This seems like a cool place. But…there is very limited options for food. I had to eat the same thing every day because they were out of everything. Also the tours weren’t really available..or if they were I had to go with a guide who doesn’t speak English. It wasn’t the cleanest either- spiders in the room, ants in the bed and smelled musty and dank. Pretty place tho. I’m sure it’s better during the busy season.
- Helena (10/5): Our stay at Ronconcito - We stayed in 5 different all around Guanacaste and this was without a doubt our favorite place. David, the host was amazing. He provided us with detailed information about Rincon National Park. The dining staff were also excellent. Grounds were beautifully maintained and the horticulturalist on-site told us all about the plantings. They even have cotton trees!
- Robert (10/5): - Great location
- simon (10/5): - Great service
- Amanda (10/5): Would recommend! - Love the hammock! Very spacious room!
- Marty (8/5): - All staff very accommodating and friendly. Food and prices were good for the location.
- Tina (10/5): - The property is remote and very peaceful. Thw accommodations are simple but clean and spacious. We loved our time there. The restaurant has a small, simple menu that is the same for all mals but the food is fresh and very tasty. Staff are excellent. The property is very well maintained. Lots to see and do in the property and great access to excursions in the vicinity. Helpful and accommodating staff. Very reasonably priced for their food and excursions. We would definitely return.
- Kristina (10/5): - Everyone was very friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice but ask about if you need 4x4 before booking - This hotel was comfortable, clean and the food in the restaurant was good. Unfortunately, nobody mentioned needing 4x4 to get up to our room. It was fine for us when the road was dry but after it rained and was muddy we couldn't make it up and had to hike it up. Also we were woken at 530am when our neighbour was on a phone call for almost 2 hours. Walls are thin as we could him in the shower too. All of the staff was friendly minus the receptionist who made us feel uncomfortable and really tried to push tours on us. So we didn't hate it and the rooms were nice minus the loud neighbour wake up call and not having enough towels for us and no phone to call to ask for more without walking down the steep hill.
- Robert (10/5): - It was so beautiful. I would recommend this place to everyone
- Erica (10/5): - Affordable and quaint stay. Good breakfast!
- Darlene (10/5): - I loved the hammocks and the remoteness of this hotel. The food at the restaurant was reasonably priced. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
- Federico (10/5): - Good club sandwich, nice staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Beautiful views from our balcony. Very friendly staff, tasty food in the restaurant, and comfortable room.
- Zeljko (8/5): - Need full curtains covering the windows, sunrise is at 5:30 am.
Excellent breakfast. Access in and around the resort needs better ( paved) roads.
- Stewart (10/5): - The location in the forest was excellent as were the staff and great to wake up to the dawn chorus of the wildlife.
- Joyce (10/5): - nice area, beautiful room, hammocks are great, pool is refreshing.
- Xingtao (6/5): - The hotel is very nice, and the location is excellent to the national park. The only downside is the cleaning issue. The pillows are very smelly that really need to be cleaned thoroughly
- Fabricio (8/5): - Very nice place.
- Meagan (10/5): - Beautiful setting, enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks, nice pool and liked the nature walk on site.
- Rodney (6/5): - This lodge is ok for someone who likes quiet. Although cold in the morning and nights. You would not want to sit on your balcony at night. There is no kitchenette or coffee machine in the rooms so you are forced to eat at their restaurant. There is a small town reachable by car but the roads are atrosious. The staff was nice, but it was not what was expected.
- Carol Ann (10/5): - Beautiful views, amazing stars, comfortable bed, kind attentive staff.
- Amber (10/5): Serenity - Our second time visiting and was again a great experience! Food is always good and the hospitality is amazing. Loved laying by the pool in the hammocks and enjoying the peacefulness of being in nature!
- Guido (10/5): Perfect stay - We loved the quietness of the place, amazing stargazing, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, nice restaurant.
- Genevieve (10/5): - My 10 y.o. daughter and myself did a horseback riding experience. It was our fist time and we really liked it! The horses were gentle and the ride was for more than 2 hours. I recommend ! ($35 us per person)
- Anisa (10/5): - Staff were quite friendly and accommodating despite our arrival late at night. They said they would leave a key for us in reception, but in the end they were awake and helped us to the room.
The walk to our cabin was slightly steep, so if you have a disability I would suggest advising them in advance so they can give you a nearer room.
We had specified two queens in the reservation but we were given one king. We did not bother to correct it since our arrival was so late at night, but I suspect they would have been happy to change rooms.
Great path on the property for a short hike and view of the volcano. A friendly resident dog showed me all the trails :) Later, I brought my 70 year-old father and it took him about 40 minutes round trip.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The minute that my feet stepped outside I could feel the amazing energy of this place! It was calm and serene. What a pleasure it was to stay here! We enjoyed our hike with the local tpur guide Jose. He made us feel welcomed and safe. I highly would recommend this place! Everything and everyone was amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is a hidden gem in a private forest area near Miravalles Volcano. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the rooms are standard but comfortable, a little dark inside. It is quiet and peaceful. My kids loved the hammock, which is available for each room. Food is fresh and delicious and, as we have come to know, Costa Rican hospitality is second to none.
- Octavian (10/5): Great food and location! - Great food and location! Reception gives helpful recommendations on hiking in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great atmosphere and fantastic food. Staff was amazingly friendly and very accommodating. Pool was refreshing but could use some fixing up. Rooms were spacious and clean with great WiFi connection, but the beds were rather uncomfortable. The views from our room and the great food made up for anything lacking.
- Marcelo (10/5): We enjoyed our night there - We enjoyed our night there. Super mellow, with all sorts of jungle noises to wake up with. Very nice grounds, with a 20 minutes hike to a private (small) waterfall in the property. Very friendly staff and very nice breakfast included.
- Dan (10/5): - Super friendly staff. Comfortable stay. Would stay again.
- Jerry (6/5): - Very nice hotel with great location close to many tours near Volcán Rincon de la vieja, restaurant on site and great service. My only observation was that the room was not ready at the moment of the check in and we had to wait 3 hours in the cafeteria but other than that it was great.
- Enzo (10/5): - THE BEST place I stayed during my 3 week vacation around Costa Rica! The food at the restaurant was amazing and cheap, the service was perfect, the place is gorgeous. The only downside is that it’s super hard to get to rincon de la vieja region. But if you’re going there, this is the place where you want to stay! Make sure you plan to stay a while cause this place is awesome
- Elsa (10/5): - Excellent service from the reception, housekeeping and restaurant services.
- Javier (10/5): - I loved the rural life style and natural attractions
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A wonderful place to rest and be surrounded by nature.
The staff is very friendly.
The restaurant food is delicious!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautifully located on the mountain side, in the forest with lovely flowers and landscaping. The rooms were airy and bright, and the breakfast was delicious! Loved the hammocks and patios outside our room.
- Russell (2/5): - King suite purchased through hotels. Com. Two double beds were in room with no alternatives.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hot shower, not many bugs. Good location. Good staff and value. Nice balcony
- Rebecca (10/5): RICONICITO LODGE - Service was excellent. Thankyou to David for his kind service and help to navigate us to some sites. Food was excellent and the staff was awesome. It rained and was windy all night but the cabin felt study!
- Edward (8/5): Nice lodging - Nice accommodation. Only ate one dinner at restaurant and it was good. Limited menu. Breakfast was good too. Be very careful with food in your room due to potential for ants. You are in heavily wooded area after all.
- Jean-Pierre (10/5): - Large room with a beautiful view. Good buffet breakfast.
- Doug (8/5): - The view from our room was great, it was of the tree canopy
- Amber (10/5): Great stay! - Loved everything about this place. The beds were comfortable, everyone that worked there was accommodating and friendly. The restaurant on the premises was great. Really enjoyed our time spent there. Was a great start to our first time to Costa Rica. Would stay again if I was back in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The lodge was set in a beautiful and remote part of the forest, very close to Rincon de la Vieja. Our hosts were very friendly and provided helpful info about hiking in the park. We had a comfortable and clean room and loved the balcony. We also had a surprisingly delicious and affordable 3-course dinner there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was the most beautiful property I have stayed at in Costa Rica. We have stayed at least 12 different places. The staff was more than inviting and they even let us check in early and offered a beautiful upgrade for $15 a night. The vegetarian plate was amazing and the breakfast was the best free breakfast we’ve ever had. I would suggest bringing drinks, water and snacks as they are limited and pricy and it’s a 25 min drive to the store.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property is beautiful and lush. Excellent amenities and an excellent staff. Everyone was happy and extremely helpful. Will absolutely stay here again!
- Luis (10/5): - Nice place and personal gave us a lot of local tips about tours and a map
- Verified traveler (10/5): - EXCELENTE SERVICIO AL CLIENTE. HABITACIONES HERMOSAS Y CÓMODAS. LA COMIDA DELICIOSA. LA ATENCIÓN ESPECTACULAR. YA QUIERO VOLVER.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent staff, excellent location, excellent pool!
- DAVID (10/5): - I loved the cool air in the mountains. The food was also very good and the staff were friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful staff! Great food! and a great combo tour!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We had an issue with trying to get our last night refunded, and the management assured us it would be no problem, yet they were just giving us lip service and never followed through. I feel like they catered to tour groups and the bottom line, as opposed to really caring about their guests' comfort. We were told that we couldn't get coffee until 7, yet when we came down at 7, there were already throngs of people who had their food and coffee.
On two days, there was no ice for drinks anywhere; one morning there was no milk for coffee; and there were never any pool towels available -- they were always "in the laundry".
We needed four wheel drive to get up to our room, which we didn't have, so we had a very steep climb up and down whenever we wanted to eat or go to the pool. My husband was having back problems, so this was very difficult for him.
Despite these management issues, they are expanding -- new units were being built further up the hill.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Rinconcito is a well laid out set of buildings against a sharp hill, with plenty of views and lovely landscaping. The meals were good, which was fortunate since the entire area around Rincon de la Vieja is pretty remote. We enjoyed the horseback ride that started right at the lodge. The staff was very helpful about directing us to local attractions such as the hot springs.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Still undergoing construction, road to room was somewhat steep and rough.
Pool a bit small and horses kept too close, but that is just a quibble
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent location, friendly staff, extremely peaceful. Nice pool to relax in after a busy day. Pretty bad beds however. A mattress change is in order.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Had a fabulous stay! Our rooms was great, but the sliding doors did not lock...not really a problem, I guess :) The food was quite good, service was wonderful, and the hotel grounds are lovely. The location and proximity to the national park is perfect. Unfortunately, the wind literally howled all night every night we were there (in January), so sleeping was a bit challenging, with trees and other things banging on the roof all night. Overall, a great experience and I would certainly stay here again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The drive up to the lodge was dusty and windy but once we arrived we were welcomed and felt well cared for in a beautiful remote setting. We enjoyed hiking in the National Park, the wonderful restaurant and buffet breakfasts. Lounging around the pool provided some great relaxation time after exploring the park. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Will Return SOON! - it was so peaceful and I loved every minute of my stay. wish i couldve stayed a few days more.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great unit and enjoyed the view and bird watching right from the balcony.
- sudha (10/5): Very good - Very good location and landscaping. Calm & Relaxing with nature. Nice staff. Delicious breakfast buffet. Highly recommended two nights stay.
- Blondie (10/5): - Perfect start to our holiday, staff were very welcoming and helpful, lovely room - very clean, huge bed and lots of hot water which is exactly what you need after a 12 hour flight. Very peaceful and beautiful spot.
- Verified traveler (10/5): An amazing scenery - An amazing property with very picturesque view
- Paola (10/5): Lovely - Quiet secluded little hotel, very close to Rincon de la vieja national park but away from all the tourists. Beautiful grounds, friendly & helpful staff, don’t forget to walk around, their its a creek an a small hanging bridge.
- Jeff (10/5): - The room was much nicer than I expected. We upgraded to a premium room, but it was outstanding. We had a nice deck to relax and review the nature around us. A couch on a lower level than the bed so that you had great views outside from the bed, the couch and the balcony.
- Tomer (10/5): - Hotel definitely has features of a true lodge even if the bathroom is typical Costa Rican. We got way more than we expected for the price that we payed. Access to the parking area for our room required the 4x4 feature of our car and the wifi signal was very weak in the room, but the room is very spacious, the beds are super comfortable, shower had good pressure and water was hot. The true gem of the hotel is the outstanding food that it serves a-la-cart. Breakfast buffet was nice but nothing to write home about
