Guest Reviews
- Davaid (10/5): - had what I needed
- Rebekah (10/5): - Cute place on the main road. The staff is very friendly and the food was excellent.
- Zhikang (2/5): Horrible hotel - Worst experience ever! For some reason The hotel was booked for 2 adults and not included my 2 boys , when we arrived at the hotel very late at the night, the arrogant and mean private hotel owner didn’t allow more than 2 people in the room even including children. Since no ways to find other hotels nearby, my husband and one boy had to sleep in the car. I knew it’s kind of my fault and made rush reservations, but never had issues before, and most hotels accommodate children stays.
The hotel itself is very old, has creaky floors, I can hear people’s snoring at the next room. Dark hallways and stairs, easily trip. The hotel was not worth it for the price, would not recommend.
- Massimo (10/5): - Nice stay
- Christine (10/5): Recommended - A warm welcome, enjoyed my stay, Thank you
- Glenna (6/5): - Lovely folks and cool old drovers inn. Unfortunately we didn't know there was no food available on Mondays or Tuesdays (though I contacted the hotel twice when booking and was told we would be able to get dinner at least)
Bed was a bit funky but good enough
- Simon (10/5): - Stayed one night in this historic Drovers Inn. I loved it. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good and reasonably priced. Will definitely stay here again.
- Sally (8/5): - Comfortable room, good value for money
Very friendly and welcoming, thank you
- Michelle (6/5): - The owners were kind and helpful at getting us checked in and showing us our rooms. The place was sufficient for our needs but not ideal. There were no outlets in our room that were reachable. We had to plug things in in the hallway. Our bedding was clean, but the extra pillows on the top of the cabinet did not have changed pillow cases and had hair on them.
- THOMAS (10/5): - My son and I spent one night here on May 2, 2025. It was an exhausting day because we were lied to and ripped off by Europcar. We couldn’t get any roadside assistance even though we paid extra for it Upon arrival at the Luib, we were met with understanding and caring. They have a small staff and a tough job. The owners are very successful people and have owned a number of businesses in Europe and now live in their hometown. I bonded with them and staff immediately. Some reviewers are upset that they were denied bathroom amenities. Sadly, I can see how some entitled people treat the Luib like it’s a public rest stop with free public amenities. That happens to them constantly. The Luib has so much character inside that you really do need to stop here. If not staying the night, go there in the evening for drinks, conversation and atmosphere. I was shown genuine kindness by the owners and hope to see them again next year. We were very satisfied with our stay and the ambience was priceless. Highly recommend.
- Nova (6/5): - It is a beautiful 17th century building, quirky and old. Maybe because it is out of high season, they had a very limited selection of food and drink and it just felt like we were too much trouble? The fan in the bathroom was really noisy which is a problem for late night needs and the mattress was super soft and lumpy!
- James (2/5): - Beautiful location and nice people. Owners said 10 pm was quite time but stayed up until 11:30 talking very loudly which kept us awake. Don’t eat there; small menu with mediocre food. Eat in Killin. The room had a cracked window with peeling paint. The inn needs a fair amount of up keep. Not worth the money.
- stephanie (4/5): - Very basic hotel. Room was a bit tired and rundown. The bar/restaurant smelled of dirty cooking oil which was quite unpleasant and it lingered on hair and clothes.
Only stayed as a stop off on the way to our holiday destination so it served its purpose, but not worth the price.
- Suzanne (8/5): - Lovely and loved.
- Danika (10/5): - The hotel had an attached lot for convenient parking and a restaurant on site. We had a delicious meal for dinner during our one night stay. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom could’ve been a bit cleaner.
- Karin (4/5): - The countryside around the property was beautiful. The hotel was right on the roadside, so you could hear the cars driving by. Since there was no were else to eat close by, it was practical to be able to eat there, but the fare was simple with no fresh options, such as salads. Some of the mattresses sank in the middle and the coils could be felt. I tried to sleep on a pillow for this reason. The bathroom window was moldy and the moldy smell carried over into the room. Everything was well meant, but really needs updating and renovations. If you can afford to stay somewhere else, do that.
- Britney (8/5): - Being Scotland, places can be old and that is the charm. The Inn could use some lights in the hallways for night time, but the beds were comfortable, it was quiet at night and there are beautiful fields behind it. The cook had been sick for a while, so the nice lady that checked us in suggested the Courie Inn in Killin, which was excellent. Killin is a great town about a 5-10 min drive away with a gorgeous river and really lovely places to eat, stay and even an old castle.
- Karen (8/5): Old Scottish pub feels - Great old Scottish pub! We loved the authenticity and atmosphere. Basic accommodation but an incredible whiskey selection and the staff were great
- Peter (10/5): - Lovely people and food, great spot.
- John (8/5): - Great staff and convenient location along our route. Rooms clean but a wee bit smallish.
- John (10/5): A gem - The Luib hotel is a gem in a beautiful location. The fish we had for dinner were superb, and the breakfast was exceptional but what made our stay extra special was the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. Would definitely stay again.
- Linda (8/5): - The proprietor John was quite a character. We had a spirited conversation after breakfast. He makes the Luib hotel a standout destination
- Alejandro (10/5): - A quiet and comfortable place, our first time trying the Scottish food, and the breaksfast tasted so good. It was perfect for the family. Recommended 100%. Thanks
- Trevor (8/5): Comfy beds but very limited food. Not soundproofed - Situated in a beautiful location, the beds were very comfortable and staff friendly. However, the plumbing isn't great as the shower varied between a scalding dribble and a cold flood whenever anybody else in the hotel turned a tap. However, the biggest problem for us was the very limited menu and there are no alternative places to eat nearby. There are no starters or desserts and a choice of just five main courses, four for us as one had sold out. Nothing at all for vegetarians. The cooked breakfast was good quality but there were no cereals, juices or fruit. It was great to be able to open the window fully in the room but it was the start of the midge season so we left it shut. Not well soundproofed.
- Gwendolyn (8/5): - Old hotel and bar. Good sized full Scottish breakfast. Plaid carpets and old wood staircases. Be careful with SatNav as it will take you to an empty hotel closer to Crianlarich. If driving from Crianlarich keep going past the closed hotel on the right and you will find Luib Hotel on your left about 1/2 mile further on from where SatNav says it should be.
- Bruce (10/5): Excellent little hotel - Really great hotel. Staff were very welcoming, room was cute with a view over the fields. Bed was comfy. Tea, coffee and biscuits in room with a kettle.
Central heating in room and easily controlled.
Had the evening meal which had a choice of about 6 items all priced at £13 apart from the steak which was £19 but was huge. Chef was excellent, I had freshly causing fish in bread crumbs with chips and it was gorgeous. Breakfast was a traditional Scottish cooked breakfast and again was perfect.
The staff were the real charm of this place with everyone engaging and working hard. There was no wifi as there were issues but had enough 4g signal to use my data for downloading stuff. But you are in the middle of a valley in the Highlands so to be expected but did not detract from the stay.
- Amelia (10/5): Great little gem - Sue & John run a really lovely place. Incredibly clean and well maintained, no old muggy smell. Rooms were cozy and beds comfortable.
Food for breakfast was also lovely and dinner especially. Good location for being able to get to the highlands not to far away as well as seeing local villages.
- Graham (6/5): - Luib hotel was a convenient stop on our journey west. There was no hot water in the bathroom in the morning apart from an electric shower. Bacon, sausage, egg and tomato and toast were the only breakfast options.
- Catherine (8/5): - Lovely host
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Beautiful hotel near Crianlarich. Stunning views from the hotel. Friendly and helpful host. Place had everything we needed and has an old world charm.
- Alison (4/5): - Facilities very basic. Small room, no hot water for shower in middle of the day. We weren’t offered any breakfast choices other than a Scottish breakfast - though this was quite good.
The building is old and needs some attention. It’s also right on the side of the A85 so there is traffic noise, even at night.
The meal we had at dinner one evening was ok, but very limited choice.
The plus point was that the owners/staff were very friendly and the beer was good 😃
- Margaret (8/5): - Very friendly, good meal. Just no hot water in the morning.
- PAUL V (6/5): - Very welcoming staff and perfectly good facilities. Excellently located for travelling north. Had a lovely drink in the bar with an open fire in the evening. Only problem with our stay was that the room was incredibly cold when we arrived with heating off and window open. The room did heat up a little by the time we returned from the bar but getting into bed felt like climbing into a block of ice. The heating even went off during the night and we woke up cold multiple times.
In the morning the breakfast was lovely with really excellent service and delicious cooked breakfast. bathroom facilities were clean and shower was quite satisfying and very warm.
- Maria (10/5): Mid week break. - The hotel owners where very welcoming and made you feel at home. The hotel is surrounded by stunning scenery and ideally position to make it a base to tour round. The hotel is old and has character. The shower is great with plenty of hot water. A very enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent location for overnight stay - Excellent location for overnight stay on our return drive from the far north of Scotland. Very clean room & bathroom. Good service and evening meal.
- Ian (10/5): Home from home - Very warm welcome on arrival. The hotel was a home from home, comfy, relaxing and the location ideal to explore the Lochlomond area and beyond.
Guests felt relaxed and happy to chat to each other at the start of each day which was nice.
Breakfast was included in the price and set you up for the day.
We will be returning!
- Peter (10/5): - Obviously a very old building, but clean and well maintained. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ideal stop gap on the way to the western isles.
- Gail (10/5): Lovely Welcoming Hotel - Very welcoming with a lovely bar. The room was exceptionally clean and fresh. Only there overnight but would return again.
- Ian (8/5): - Our room was small, simple and basic. Suitable for our 3 night stay.
The room and hotel were clean and COVID rules were followed.
The owners and staff were welcoming and gave a homely feel.
Breakfast was fine and the bar food was good and reasonably priced.
- barbara (10/5): Cosy old pub with warm welcome and good food - Lovely old pub. Basic room but adequate. Warm friendly staff and owner John keeps you entertained.
Good homemade Food and cosy warm atmosphere .
- David A (6/5): On the road to Skye - A good place to stay on the way to Skye. Good wholesome food, very friendly staff.
- DENISE (10/5): Little treasure - Our host Sue at the Luib could not have been better, from our greeting, dinner, drinks and breakfast the next morning, she was outstanding. Good food and good base for the beautiful surroundings. My only one slight issue was with the traffic noise, as the Inn is directly off the A85 and for once, we needed the window open for the heat but don't let this put you off, loved our stay.
- Russ (8/5): - Our stay was better than expected, the beds were very comfy, the shower room was clean and large and Sue was very friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable accommodation, good food and friendly hosts. Very enjoyable stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very good value.
Friendly helpful staff.
Large car park
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Out in the country with beautiful sunset and views. Good location for our trip to Glencoe. Cozy room, friendly service, interesting history on the walls.
- C F (10/5): Good choice - Nice and friendly, ideal stopover
- Janine (8/5): Rural location, fab evening meal, friendly staff. - Lovely rural location, quiet. Room was very clean and quite modern. We had an average breakfast but the evening meal was outstanding. Bar staff really friendly. The only negative really was that the WiFi didn’t work.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Easy to find on the A85 between Crianlarich and Killin in a picturesque location, and plenty of space in the car park on arrival. Considering the high price we paid, and all the positive reviews, we thought we would be in for a treat, however it all fell rather short of our expectations. The age of the building aside, the interior seemed tired and in need of some rejuvenation. Our room had a broken window, the bathroom was dingy and excessively hot due to the towel rail, the toilet wasn't clean, and the shower didn't drain properly meaning the tray was in constant danger of overflowing. The dining wasn't great - rather bland low budget food out of the freezer, and when we tried to pay for our evening meal, the card machine wasn't working. The wifi signal was very poor throughout the building. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, and the new owners were friendly and welcoming. All in all, we felt the hotel is overpriced for what is on offer, so on that basis we will look for an alternative next time we're in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quaint little inn with a friendly staff. We got delayed and were coming in late. We called and they were very accommodating. Highly recommended
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rural setting and informal easy atmpsphere.
Dinner menus varied and excellent but breakfast choice of cereals disappointing.
- Bob (10/5): - John and Sue are great very accommodating, and great food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable and cosy. Pleasant and attentive owners who do everything. Lovely log fire with no shortage of logs. Limited breakfast choice but very nice full breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pretty B&B in a beautiful location with caring staff. The dining hall area was homey with a roaring fire and great food. Great for a one night stop on your way to the highlands.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bedroom very comfortable with super soft linen and towels also very clean, Public areas a bit tired looking and bar food could be improved. Staff extremely helpful and friendly
- Kirk (10/5): GT Glubbers - A beautiful rural area! John and Sue who are the owners, the management, the cooks, and everything else I think, will take good care of you. If you like local fair, this is the place!
- Anil (8/5): - We arrived very late, however, the staff was accommodating. The room was bit dated, however, it was comfortable, warm and cosy. Drinking water bottle was provided separately and there was good hot water provision for the shower. The food menu is limited.
- Gillian (8/5): - Decor was in need of an update, but everything was clean, staff were welcoming and the bar was cozy with its open fire. Surrounded by beautiful scenery
- Graham (8/5): Characterful Historic Inn - The hotel is an old Drovers Inn - the old building therefore limits the modernity of the rooms. The room that I stayed in (Room 2), was situated at the rear of the building and had a limited view from it's small window which overlooked some delapidated outbuildings.
The room itself was clean, comfortable and very warm. The decor is in need of some update, but everything else was in good working order with a decent amount of storage. The bathroom was a little small, but the shower was hot once the hot water had come through the pipes.
Toiletries are supplied in small single use plastic bottles - maybe we should be taking and using our own? The room had tea and coffee which was replenished daily.
Downstairs there isn't a residents snug - just the large open-plan bar area with open log fire. The bar menu was reasonable enough with a decent enough selection - it's just pub grub though but priced accordingly. The new managers are just updating the menu so could be a little better soon. The bar served just two keg beers - no real ale (yet?).
The hotel is well situated for walking - just 5 minutes from Crianlarich and ten from Killin. The hotel unfortunately doesn't have a drying room which, for Scotland, is a good feature to have. The hotel is also well situated for touring the local area being on the main road between Stirling and Glencoe.
All in All, a decent hotel for a walking break.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I found this hotel to be comfortable and clean, but a little dated. The meals could be improved.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cozy rooms and a kind staff. WiFi does not work and there were a few other quirks related to being an older hotel. The new management at the hotel seems very committed to fixing these issues.
- Denise (6/5): Don't expect much more than a bed. - Quaint is the best word I can find for this place. The owner/bartender is probably why it gets good ratings, because the room is not worth the price, and the breakfast is actually better at the chain restaurants where you fix your own. It might just be that you are away from any real competition, because the only other places we saw in the area were occasional B&Bs, and good luck finding it if you arrive after dark. If you do go there, they have cold beer on tap, but not much to snack on, so eat before you get there. .
- Paul (8/5): A remote and friendly stopover - This old inn shows many signs of wear and tear but it is clean and friendly. Our room was sparsely furnished and with a basic ensuite including a gravity fed shower which nearly functioned but we were greatful for the comfy bed in what is essentially the only place to stay between Killin and Crianlarch. We stayed for two nights and had an amusing time chatting with Dennis who runs the place and provides a good Scottish breakfast. The restaurant menu is limited but adequate.
- barry (6/5): good for an overnight stop - friendly old fashioned place dates from stage coaches ,Buildings a bit tired. 50 yards off main road but little night traffic- thin walls so heard snoring neighbour but probably got my own back! Rather limited dinner menu -pub grub rather than fine dining
- Martin (8/5): Cinvenient stopover for one night, easy to book. - Facilities and cleanliness were satisfactory for our purposes. Some minor items requiring maintenance.
- Anne (10/5): - Beautiful 350yr old Drovers Inn. Scenic spot. Great meals. Ensuite a bit cramped. Easy to find despite sat nav sending us to another property nearby on the same road.
- Graham (8/5): - Awsome rural location. Quaint old historical building.Freindly staff. Comfortable beds.
- Irene (8/5): Lovely old hotel. - Hotel is a 300 year old building but inside our room was spotless and the accommodations were comfortable. There is no internet in the rooms and the WIFI in the common area was a weak signal. However the TV in our room was the best so far in any hotel in northern Ireland or Scotland. Breakfast was a full Scottish breakfast. This hotel is isolated but is very good for hikers or visitors to the highlands.
- Verified traveler (10/5): quiet hotel - enjoyable good foodvery peaceful close to attractions and mountains
- Mr Brian R (10/5): Great location - Ideal location en route north or south. Very friendly all round and a good place to stay. Could possibly do with a bit of an upgrade but suited our needs.
- Penny (10/5): Home from Home - Staff were great & so friendly. Loved the log fire & food great too. Felt at home immediately . so glad we found the hotel as we'd return in a heartbeat!
- wighty (8/5): Good hotel for position when traveling to from hom - Nice location for hotel friendly members of staff we had a good evening meal and breakfast with comfortable overnight stay .
- Michaela (10/5): - Fun location in the middle of nowhere so perfect for touring the green countryside and lochs. The road from Callander to Luib is lovely, also the road from Ft William to Mallaig is lovely if you can work that into your trip. Very nice publicans and a fire in the restaurant made this a pleasant stop-over.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely surroundings. Very friendly owners who are concerned with our comfort. Loved the cozy bar and fireplace with blazing fire that greeted us when we arrived to check in.
- Mark (10/5): Lovely restful unpretenious stay - It was great. Unpretentious in every way. Food (especially breakfast) was great, although traditional. The staff were quirky and occassionally confused, but it just added to the fun. For instance. I asked for toast made with white bread and my wife from brown. We only got white. So on the second day we asked for brown first. We got brown. Which was amusing. There was confusion over the bill. We'd paid in advance and they thought we still had to pay. It was soon sorted out with no fuss.
The only issue some might have is the water. It is brown. It's safe to drink, but it's to do with the peat and the fact that it comes from a highland spring. It's treated and they have certificates to say it is safe. But bath in it and it's so soft and leaves your skin so smooth. I guess this would put alot of people off, but it shouldn't.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Feels like home and family friendly - Staff is incredibly welcoming. Our 1.5 year daughter was ill and they helped us in every possible way. Would stay there again 100 times.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We would stay again. The hotel has wonderful atmosphere, clean, good food, and great location as a base to explore. If you’re looking for some highland hospitality this is the place. We had a great time at the end of the day relaxing in the bar, locals very welcoming even offering a taste of their whiskey to come from always.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Typical rural highlands hotel. - Extremely helpful and kind staff. Hotel in need of upgrade.
- Neil (8/5): Pleasant - Very pleasant friendly and welcoming. This centuries old building has some character but well maintained. Excellent breakfast. Dennis was very kind.
- Ewecoo (10/5): A Night To Remember! - What a wonderful treasure to find on our tour of Scotland! A small casual Inn with staff that welcomed you like family. We enjoyed an evening at the pub within the inn and got to know some locals that were both entertaining and informative. The evening ended with hugs from new friends and warm wishes for our future travels around Scotland.
The next morning we were once again greeted by Dennis and treated to a lovely hardy Scottish breakfast.
More hugs and goodbyes. Felt like family. Would highly recommend everyone to experience The Luib Inn's hospitality!
- Margaret (10/5): Luib hotel - I took my daughter for a night away very friendly and breakfast gets food when you order which is nice and fresh
- Jason-Renee (10/5): Delightful inn in a beautiful location - Quaint inn in a beautiful location. The owners were delightful and the local "bar crowd" were very friendly. Pleasant stay and also a great breakfast. Thank you.
- Shaun (8/5): Night away. - Friendly folk In a great position with fantastic views. Old building with a nice character.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Scottish highlands character. - A Inn, alone on a road, in the Scottish highlands. 350 years old. Full of character. And a warm welcome. What more could you ask.
- Kaiya (10/5): The Luib Hotel - Welcoming, comfortable, authentic, clean, amazing lovely food, cute tickly dog - Tilly, very child friendly, roasty toasty fire, delicious breakfast, snuggly beds and duvets. Located near to a garage for those - just in case - situations!
- Peter (8/5): - OK.
- James (6/5): - Nice people. Need to replace broken furniture I.e. dresser and give the place a good cleaning.
- Lee (10/5): Recommended for dog lovers - Great stay on the way further up for a week camping. We have 2 little white bichons and the owners couldnt be more dog friendly. Welcomed in the bar and even got a seperate cooked sausage especially for them for breakfast. Recommended!
- Donna (8/5): Lovely food. Very obliging hosts. - It would appear that the inn is under new management and they are busy improving facilities. Our room was clean and comfortable, but the mattress needs to be replaced - a matter which I believe is being addressed. The food (dinner and breakfast) was well-prepared and nicely presented.
- Michael K. (8/5): - A nice stay. The house is 350 years old and it's cozy.
Food was good and good service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Friendly hotel - Very friendly and helpful service had dinner there was very good .
The hotel was value for money would revisit if in the area
- E (10/5): Friendly and cosy! Super breakfast! - Had a lovely couple of nights here! The gentleman in charge has a very friendly manner and a wonderful sense of humour.
The hotel is full of character and in beautiful surroundings.
The food served here is of a good standard with a superb choice at breakfast.
Don't be put off with the brown water. It is very good for your hair and skin and perfectly safe to drink.
- Carole (8/5): No complaints - Great friendly service. We were leaving before breakfast so they made a fantastic packed lunch. Very clean room and bathroom. Just dated in the decor particularly the bar area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Host was wonderful, friendly and personable. Hotel is in a spectacular location close to Glencoe and has incredible scenic beauty. Meals are available on request in addition to breakfast included. Hotel is old and full of historic charm.
- Gail (10/5): Great hosts - The outside didn't look promising. We arrived, tired, after the kitchen was closed and asked if we could possibly get a little something such as soup. The owners were so kind and prepared us scampi and chips plus the soup which was homemade and delicious. We were very appreciative and can't recommend them enough. The building is older but it looks like they are trying to update. Room was comfortable and bathroom updated. Worth a visit for the price and attention.
- Verified traveler (8/5): B&B in Loch Lomond - Old style B&B located on a main road through the national park. Building is over 300 years old, and kept in good shape. Recently taken over by new family. Nice welcome, nice eating area for breakfast and dinner; good menu, good choice of beer. Vintage decoration , sort of like a ski or mountain chalet. Rooms are fine, clean, large. Coffee, tea, and cookies in the room.
- Jean (8/5): Nice place close to the Trossachs - We had a nice room for a family with 1 child. The bathroom was large too. The personnel is very kind. The A85 makes it noisy especially between 6 am an 10 pm.
- Kandi (8/5): Nice B&B - For a 300 year old home, this place was great. The owners were simply wonderful and eager to talk with you. There is a nice bar and restaurant inside which was perfect after a long day of driving. Our room was a bit small and quite simple but perfect for us! They are in the middle of renovating as they just purchased last November.
- Charles (10/5): - The hotel staff were very warm and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were very well done. We enjoy our stay.
