Guest Reviews
- Didem (6/5): Average hotel in a beautiful location. - Great location beautiful views of the river and short walk to train station and town centre. Very tired room in need of refurbishment. It was very cold in the nights to begin with but when they put the heating on the sound of the radiators were disturbing.
- chris (9/5): - Staff were very helpful. Our car broke down and with their help it was fixed the following day.
- Lee (6/5): - Wagon and horses is a nice hotel in a quiet riverside location. Rooms were clean. Comfortable. Plenty hot water. And tea and coffee making facilities. We discovered after we booked for 2 nights that they were no longer doing breakfasts apparently due to some transition. We had booked the hotel as we had stayed here before and the breakfast was great. So that was disappointing. And another thing we didn't like was there was no staff working when we came down in the morning. We later discovered they don't start till 10. 00 am,. We were able to get out by discovering a fire exit that led onto the street. But we were initially unsure if this door was alarmed so called the out of hours number pinned to this door. Sadly no reply. And went to voicemail. Nobody returned our call and we left via that exit.. We discovered our key fitted that door from the outside. So we could get back in that way. Generally seemed like hotel is been used a bit like a air B&B. Which is not us really. Hopefully they will start breakfasts again. But it did spoil our stay..

- Sam (7/5): Local to Lancaster - Nice room. We got a disabled wet room bathroom without being informed however Not great info about parking. No breakfast in the end. Small refund
- Elaine (4/5): Over Priced - The bedroom and bathroom were clean and the beds were comfy When we arrived we were told the kitchen had been closed and we wouldn't be getting breakfast even though we'd paid for bed and breakfast. We were eventually offered a £5 refund which we declined because it wouldn't cover the cost of a breakfast anywhere else. Booking.com are now looking into this for us.
Our room was clean but very small and dated. £99 is too much to charge for the standard of the accommodation.
- David (6/5): Unsatisfactory Lancaster stay - Room was quite nice and the beds were comfortable Our reservation via booking.com stated that breakfast was included. On arrival at the hotel, we were told breakfast was not included which was very inconvenient.?After showing them the booking.com reservation they refunded us £10 which is hardly generous for two people. Sure enough, it cost us £22 for a basic breakfast.
Not a good experience. Disappointing response from booking.com.

- Rory (5/5): Nice hotel, good view - No breakfast despite paying for it. - Room was nice, clean, great view - bed a bit small for 2 people, luckily I was travelling solo so not an issue Upon arrival - despite having clearly paid for a breakfast with the room, I was told by a staff member that the breakfast I'd paid for was 'complimentary' - and that this particular 'compliment' had been withdrawn, and that there would be no proportional refund. This was apparently due to 'new management'.
To be honest, as a paying customer, I really don't care whom is managing the hotel - I care that I get the breakfast that I've paid for. This absolutely wasn't good enough.
- Mark (7/5): -
- Tessa (6/5): Parking was a bit limited. Room was good but you could hear music from pub until it closed. Breakfast was okay, but on - It was in a quiet area. Noise from the pub permeated into the room. No chef so couldn’t have evening meal there.
- Shirley (10/5): Great spot on the river. Lovely inside. - Great spot for our cycling stopover. Daisy was super helpful esp round storage of our bikes. Unfortunately no food the week we stayed, but Daisy super helpful in recommending places to eat.
- Kathy (9/5): - Breakfast was really good Kitchen wasn't open, so no bar meals or other food available
- CHRIS (9/5): Good accommodation - Good accommodation that had everything I needed. Clean and comfy.
- SAM (9/5): Just right. I want to stay there again. - Excellent customer service from staff.

- Christopher Peter (10/5): - Exceptionally welcoming and well trained staff. Superb breakfast. Truly excellent value for money
While the bedroom was relatively small the ensuite was roomy with an excellent shower. Nothing not to like.
- David (8/5): -
- Cox (9/5): A fabulous mini break and hope to return. - Perfect location for exploring Lancaster on foot. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Food simple but of a high standard. The room was small, but we knew that when we booked, and it was both spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Shower room looked very new.
- Daniel (8/5): -
- melanie (8/5): - Very good breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cupboard in room very large for size of room.
- Janice (6/5): -
- Westgate (8/5): Perfect stop off for our trip up to Scotland - Very friendly staff and great location Breakfast wasn’t until 8.00

- Thomas (9/5): I would stay again. - Friendly staff, comfortable bed, great breakfast. A bit of road noise early in the morning.
- Jacqueline (8/5): -
- Christopher (8/5): - Staff were very nice, and helpful and friendly.
Lift was a big plus, Making it easy for people with bad knees, and wheelchair access.
Great shower. Change of fresh towels as heated towel rail was off,in order to reuse towels. Thank you.
Room madeup, with cushions put away neatly.
Food. Especially white bait as starter. Good prices.overall , Pretty good. Decor in room dated. Painted Pastel maybe.
Poor lighting, for reading, or anything else.
Gastly lamps. I would loose those. Does nothing for room.
Room can be improved. Esp view. Great mural, more of same.good clean up wont go amiss. Understand it is winter.
Pity as bathroom is modern.
Check other listed old buildings being mordernised. Like the George,Dorchester. Or others.
Get rid of cleaning bottleand cloth on bar. Should be out of sight. Not near drinks or food.
Gives bad impression re hygiene.
Latest research: re use of spays for cleaning encourages super bugs, which has become a nightmare, for humans.
Use of herbal products and gloves for hands may help staff ,coming into contact with spray.
- Rose (9/5): Great Stay - Had a perfect stay. Staff were amazing, shout out for the new landlord (sorry name escapes me) but he had only been there a few weeks and gave great customer service! Nothing
- Celia (9/5): Fantastic find! - Really comfortable and staff really friendly. Excellent breakfast.
- Amit (9/5): Comfortable, convenient and friendly. - Really lovely pub atmosphere with a friendly owner who looks after you straight away with a warm welcome. Clean and comfortable bedroom. Nice range for breakfast though I didn’t make the most of it myself. Eggs and bacon were good :-) Only nitpicking but wouldn’t mind a bathtub and couldn’t work out how to get the heating on in the bathroom.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Lovely staff and a very comfortable stay - The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was small which I expected but very comfortable especially the bed and bed linen.Good range of items in cooked breakfast.
Having a lift was unexpected and most welcome due to having large cases. A small thing - some fruit option at breafast.
- Bryan (9/5): -
- catherine (8/5): A lovely overnight stay - The staff were great, the breakfast was really good and the room was clean and comfortable. Nothing
- Jack (10/5): Lovely place to stay, will use again if i'm ever back in Lancaster. - The room and breakfast was fantastic, the pub and choice of drinks was also good. Good location and parking available if you don't mind a short walk. Nothing, if i'm being picky its a 15 min walk from the centre of Lancaster which might not be ideal for some.
- Jenny (10/5): -
- John (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Joy (10/5): -
- Jane (10/5): Stayed four nights , comfortable room , lovely food and very helpful staff . Would definitely recommend and I will stay - Great location, very central for historic Lancaster All was good
- Alison (8/5): Overall we had a very comfortable, cosy stay which was good value, and the staff were helpful. - We liked the individual character of the pub and decor. We had an enjoyable bar supper one night and two tasty breakfasts (very good poached eggs). Our room had a nice view of the river and the bed was comfortable; shower worked well. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pub was only a short walk from the town centre. Our room was quite small, but adequate. Coffee at breakfast was not very good. I asked for tomatoes with my eggs but they were forgotten. Quite a bit of traffic on the road outside, but that is not the fault of the pub!
- David (9/5): -

- Hannelie (5/5): Will not recommend this stay. - Property has got lovely Pub with good food.
And a lift. Rooms were tiny and no air. Furniture were cheap and old.
We could not open the windows as we faced a lot of air conditioners.

- Diane (9/5): -
- Peter (8/5): - Room was quite small but very clean and cosy (very warm indeed - but fine once we truned the heating Down). aprking is just on the road - but that was OK Brekfas towas Ok - a bit of confusion - had to state what you wanted the night before - my wife indicated she didn't want eggs with her avocado on toast she was asked in the morning and clarified that she didn't want eggs. she was then given 2 eggs. It wasn't a big issue and quite funny - we were in a bit of a rush so no time to amend - I had a lot of eggs!

- Adam (8/5): -
- Douglas (8/5): Good quality accommodation within walking distance of the town centre. - Friendly staff. Small but comfortable room, although the shower room was a bit compact. Excellent breakfast. Good location within easy walking distance of the town centre. Restaurant was closed for evening meals, but the French restaurant next door was excellent if a little pricey. That said, it served the best seafood we have eaten for a long time. Both the room and the bathroom were a bit on the small side, but comfortable. No dedicated parking, but free overnight parking on the street outside the hotel.
- Ken (8/5): Really enjoyable and made very welcome by all the team at the hotel. - Great location, very friendly staff and good breakfasts. Slight gap in the bedroom door allows too much light in during the night.
- Taleb (10/5): -
- Robert (5/5): - Carpet in the room and fabric cover on the stool (no chair to sit on) in the bedroom badly stained and need cleaned! Nice staff. OK food. Stains on bedroom carpet and upholstery
- Sweetpea (10/5): - Lovely place. Breakfast very nice and we also had the Sunday roast which was lovely. Nothing
- Marty (10/5): Great stay, will stay again - Great gluten free vegetarian breakfast Bigger bed e.g. king size
- Dawn (9/5): Excellent friendly accommodation - Excellent breakfast with good selection to choose from. Dinner was also excellent compliments to the chef.
All staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend as a good place to stay. My only minor niggle was the shower was on the small side with doors that were difficult to close, but did not affect the enjoyment of our stay.
