Guest Reviews
- Jason (10/5): - Brilliant little place very nice room and excellent service and very friendly people
- Sally (2/5): Very disappointing - Although we actually only wanted a bed for the night, I had hoped it would be in a room that had heating! It was absolutely freezing, the curtain’s didn’t close properly, and even the cushions in the bed were shabby and torn. The mattress was also really uncomfortable.
When we arrived we were shown to our room, and shown how to enter the building should we return after they were closed. We were not told there was a code to get in, although we have since found out this was in the manual. We were also reassured that should there be a problem there is someone on site who would help us.
When we arrived back, after they had closed, we initially could not get in. Clearly we should have had a code! We tried calling, and although we could hear the phone no one answered. Eventually my husband managed to pull open the door, which obviously wasn’t locked, but had swollen in the bad weather, which then made us question the security!
We then went to our freezing cold room, and left first thing. It was so uninviting that we didn’t even use the shower, just went home, grateful to be out of there.
On a plus, the location is very good.
- Melanie (4/5): Westmalling - Nice barth room but small cramped.plus the room is small.didn’t get help with the coffee machine that was broken.no hot water in the morning and I don’t have any were to drop the key off my room.plus it closes at 9pm.and leading up to the room it smelt.
- jonathan (8/5): - Very friendly little hotel with bags of character. The bar is a locals place so expect good banter and a welcoming smile.
- Daniel (2/5): - Didn't stay the full night in the property as a light came on at midnight and couldn't be turned off. Messages to the out-of-hours phone number were ignored, as were email complaints following the stay. Avoid at all costs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Shabby not chic - Great location, hosts polite. Described as a boutique hotel - looked in photos as Shabby Chic. In general it was just shabby.
The bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned in months . Thick grime and hairs stuck to the floor. Stains on the cups and saucers. Incredibly creaky bed. Not worth the £150 a night in my opinion.
Maybe if they lowered price and gave it a good clean it might be worth it.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not very good. - No Wi-Fi in room. Big green emergency exit illumination in the room which lit whole room up when it was dark. Not a great attitude from staff. Was told I was winging about Wi-Fi, when all I did was ask. Maybe I caught the place on a bad day but would not of spent my own money on this stay. Will instruct my company to stay clear.
- Joanna (6/5): - Nice place but Wifi doesn't work
- Alex (10/5): - Amazingly friendly staff, they make you feel extremely welcome. Rooms were of a good size and comfortable.
- Ryan (8/5): Decent place above the pub. - Decent stay above the pub. Only a fleeting visit for a family funeral nearby and only had a double bed to share with my annoying brother but the room was clean, tidy, and staff very friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Thanks for the stay. - Good stay overall. However, the place is missing a place to hand the coats and jackets when entering the room.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great Hotel clean, friendly staff well located
- Angus (8/5): Very pleasant - just 1 issue - Excellent place and great room - only issue was the emergency exit light next to the door which was ridiculous - it lit the whole room. I eventually managed to cover it with a scarf so I could sleep
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - Great location in quaint market town, very conveniently placed for a good choice of eateries.
- Adrian (6/5): Small Room with Massive Furniture - Room was small with very large wardrobe which took up a bit too much space so there was very little space to actually get dressed. The wardrobe rail was so high that at 5ft 3 tall, I could not actually reach the rail! The bed was large but the mattress sagged, so not a particularly good nights sleep. There are very few places to stay in West Malling, but this accommodation is rather expensive for what it is.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Expensive and without breakfast and at £140 per night could do better, small room for 2 people boutique hotel is over marketing it’s a nice pub with rooms
- Robert (10/5): Warm welcoming comfortable stay - Comfortable, friendly, welcoming. I’ll definitely be going back.
- Keith (10/5): Great pub, lovely rooms. Early AM street noise!! - Lovely friendly pub with great quality accommodation. All great with two exceptions. If you’re in a front steet facing room beware the noise begins at 5.30am! Brilliant if you’ve forgotten your alarm and want an early start... the second point is if you’re making an early exit, in my case at 8am, there is nobody about for checkout or handing your key back. But other than these points, a great place to stay and visit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely room with tea and coffee facilities, however the double bed was one of those where it’s two singles bolted together! and it kept separating in the middle as the bed is on wheels, me and my partner couldnt cuddle as we fell down the middle, that said it was very comfy bed and we slept very well! We wasn’t very keen on walking through a busy pub with my bags to check in, it is a lovely pub to drink in but would be much better if there was a separate entrance for hotel guest! Felt the cost of £125 was pricey for the type of accommodation it is.
- joe (10/5): Nice comfortable place in center of beautiful town - Cozy safe hotel upstairs from pub, walking distance to fine restaurants, pubs. Staff was friendly and helpful
- Mrs B (8/5): Nice place, breakfast could be better - We stayed in a beautiful room called Amelia. I was worried about the noise of the traffic being situated on the high street but this didn't affect our sleep. Two slight criticisms are the lack of parking and the breakfast provided wasn't to the same standard as the room. My egg and bacon were both underdone and the ingredients used didn't appear to be of a high quality.
Overall nice place, very convenient for the wedding we attended at The Swan all be it a little pricey after adding on a disappointing breakfast.
- Dimitri (8/5): - Nice cozy room, with great bath and shower, but terribel Wi-Fi connection
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Room was finished to a very high standard and nice and clean. Friendly service also. Would definitely stay again.
- Jadey (10/5): Lovely quirky hotel - We had a really nice stay. The room was very quirky and the staff were nice. It was rather cold in our room but there was extra blankets provided in the room. Brilliant location for exploring west malling. We will definitely be back!
- Peter (2/5): Never trust an upgrade! - This was NOT a hotel, boutique or otherwise. It was a pub with four rooms. The room we had was cramped, full of oversize furniture, overlooked the main road and the outside drinking area of the pub.
Extremely disappointed, especially as this was meant to be a Hotels.com upgrade, because they had double booked the hotel we originally wanted (where we had stayed before) which was considerably better!
- Paula (8/5): Customer service fabulous - It was unseasonably cold for May. I mentioned this and within minutes extra heating was put in my room. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds warm and comfortable. The bathrooms are new and the tubs in the bedroom are deep soak and fill quickly. The owners cannot do enough to ensure your stay is the best it can be. If you go to bed early this may not be the place for you as it is under a public house (nice not rowdy, comfortable to go down on your own and have a drink and not intimidating to walk through - I was a female traveling alone so this is important to me), its all quiet by just past 11. Breakfast has lots of choice and is plentiful starting from 7.30.
- Jon (6/5): disappointed - Not so great. The room seemed cluttered with over sized furniture, the bed wobbled, the shower was rubbish. But West malling is a nice spot for dinner.
- Verified traveler (10/5): One night at the Joiners - The room was comfortable and well equipped. The staff were helpful. It was a little noisey, it was a Saturday night. It went very quiet after 11.
- Tim (6/5): Dont stay in West Malling! - Hotel was fine but there's only 1 hour free parking outside between certain hours & I was given the wrong information about how long you could park at a local high street car park. End result parking ticket! Obviously I appealed this citing the information from the hotel owner as my reason for being there & the duration. Result - rejected! Dont stay in West Malling! There's nowhere to park for extended stays & the local council will delight in rejecting your appeal despite a perfectly valid & reasonable explination. I paid £230 for 2 nights stay & another £80 in local restaurants & bars during this time. Thats £310 this snobbish over rated town will never see again. Found a cheaper place to stay in Ledham just down the M20 from West Malling & guess what...there's plenty of FREE parking!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not clean, no toilet roll in the room and above a really noisy pub
Very expensive for room only
- Andre (10/5): My stay - Very good stay. The room was clean and stylish
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overall very nice .... - Overall very nice.
+: nice location, decoration, spaceous, clean, nice pub, ...
-: heater too small for the large room, getting a VAT receipt did not work
- Dan C (10/5): outstanding stay - We booked a one night stay for our 5th year wedding anniversary. Read very good reviews on no.64 and we can only add to them. We booked the Evangeline room which had a 4 post bed and large stone bath in bedroom. From the moment we arrived we given excellent service. We were greated by a young chap (think his name was Kieran) who was very helpful and made recommendations for evening meals and activities to do in local area. He lead us upstairs to our room which was decorated lovely with shabby chic styling and quality fixtures and fittings, it all felt quite luxurious!
My wife wanted a mojito to drink whilst we got ready so ordered a Lychee mojito which was served in a glass shaped as a skull (excellent idea IMO) which she said was one of the nicest she'd had. The bar had a comfy feel to It.
After we returned from our meal out in the nearby White Swan, we returned to room and there is a slight noise coming from downstairs but thats to be expected, seeing its a pub but went very quite after kicking out time.
In the morning woke up after excellent nights sleep and had breakfast downstairs. We were served by the owner who was friendly and chatty. We both went for the full English breakfast from the small menu which was all very nice. My only (very small) quip about our lovely stay is that there wasnt very much choice on the menu, full english or omelette, but again it is a pub with only 4 guest rooms with optional breakfast, not a large hotel with dozens of guests. In hind sight i guess they would of made something else for you off menu (bacon sandwich for example) but I never checked.
So to sum up, excellent stay, excellent service and we would definitely recommend.
- Z (8/5): Nice village hotel - Very nice place. Room and decor lovely althtough bath plug let water out which was a bit disappointing. Facilties good. Pub very nice. Room information stated breafast was served until 10am but when we arrived downstairs at 9.25am we were told that breakfast had finished and that if they had known we wanted breakfast they would have done it for us, apparently we should have been asked when we checked in - we werent, and the information in the room didnt tell us that we had to book breakfast either. Nevertheless we were given a couple of recommendations for elsewhere and had a great breakfast at the Fancy Goat.
- Gary Adkins (8/5): Good choice for the area - Very nice room, if a little cramped (stayed in Beatrice room). not too noisy from bar below. only downside was it was very warm and stuffy. fan was provided but old building so no aircon allowed - normally not a problem in UK!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very Good - Lovely rooms, great staff, nice area with plenty of places to eat.
- Olugbenga (10/5): our stay at number 64 at the Joiners - The Beatrice room was clean, warm and cosy. The bathroom was gorgeous, and the shower was great! It would have been good if it had a bath though. The location is nice and, as long as you don't mind some noise from the pub you will have a wonderful time. Highly recommended.
- sue (10/5): very comfy great location - lovely rooms very comfy and every one very friendly.
- Valsmith1804 (10/5): Stunning little hotel and an amazing find - This hotel is a hidden gem. The four rooms have been furnished to the highest standard in authentic French design. The owners are hands on and very friendly. We liked it so much that we are going back for New Year as they have a party.
- SJSTRATT (10/5): Lovely boutique rooms - Great find in the middle of the high street.
Really boutique rooms above a pub as opposed to a hotel, but nonetheless very comfortable and everything in the room that you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
- AMS-Jason (10/5): Great location, Great Sleep - Wonderful place... can't say enough..... The cleanest, nicest pub I have stayed in England -- owners have gone to great length to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. Great. Highly recommended.
- rosbif (10/5): Perfect for a romantic getaway - Stayed here for one night en route to a wedding. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. You are above a pub and on a main road so there is some noise until closing time, and in the morning as deliveries are made, but, you are above a pub and on the main road! No driving required (although parking can be a problem). Walking distance to a couple of other nice pubs as well as restaurants (The Swan looks nice) and even a Costa for that morning coffee hit. Would definitely recommend it!
- Gazzaro (10/5): Fantastic stay in a beautiful location - My wife and I arrived Friday afternoon, and were immediately greeted by friendly staff, who helped us settle in the bar with a relaxing drink after our train journey. We were shown to our room, 'Beatrice', which was well-decorated and beautifully furnished. We were in town for a friend's wedding in nearby East Malling, and found the location to be perfect to meet up with friends the evening before, and get to and from the wedding venue on Saturday – requesting an iron for my shirt was met quickly, and the whole weekend made it clear that nothing is too much trouble for the Joiners staff. On the Sunday, the staff at the Joiners gladly looked after our bags whilst we took a walk around the Farmer's Market in the High Street, returning to the pub with the intention of having lunch and heading back home. The atmosphere was so friendly and the staff so nice that my wife and I stayed a little bit longer, eventually tearing ourselves away in the afternoon, with a promise to return soon!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for business of pleasure - Exceeded expectations, room was spacious and shower was a real treat.
