Guest Reviews
- SIMON (10/5): Relaxing comfortable stay - Friendly staff, excellent food, comfortable room and stay.
- John (10/5): - Great Room, Great Food and Great Staff, Highly Recommended.
- Leon (8/5): The haymaker inn - Weather was amazing, and the area was really quiet! The staff were extremely friendly and couldn't do enough for us both.
I would highly recommend!
- Peter (10/5): Excellent venue. - An excellent small pub/hotel. Rooms were very clean , comfortable & tastefully furnished. Friendly staff , good choice menu excellent food. Would thoroughly recommend.
- Lynn + Keith (10/5): Warm and welcoming - We stayed here for three nights and the owners and all of the staff are doing a great job in the short time they have been running the business. Carrie and Jason are a great couple and will do anything to help. The food served is of a very good standard and the waiting staff are lovely. Good luck to you all in the future. Hope to see you again.
- Gayle (10/5): Comfy and clean - New Owners are doing a lot to make this a lovely country pub to stay at. Good meals, breakfast and very friendly owners.
- David (10/5): Great position for exploring west Dorset, etc - The new owners are working their socks off to improve this old pub and could not have been more helpful. A very good three night stay.
- Graham (8/5): This is not a hotel it is a pub with rooms - The new landlord and Landlady have only been at this place 2 weeks and are still knocking it into shape and they are very nice people and I hope they do very well. It is situated on a quite road with plenty of car parking front and back, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast is great. The food on offer in the dinning room is ok but the menu is a little limited, But I am sure this will improve when the new Landlords gain more experience. We enjoyed our stay here and I am sure other people will to.
- Jeanne (6/5): Pleasant rural location-easy access to Chard - During the 2 days of the out going landlord room service etc was poor with no breakfast available.. However when the new owners took over on the Tuesday we had a much better experience and we enjoyed a traditional english breakfast.
- Glyn (10/5): A great place to stay. - It was our second visit. We were there on the proprieter's last night. So unfortunately no breakfast in the morning. We'll go back to the Haymaker.
- Nicola (4/5): - We travelled to the area for a funeral & needed somewhere to stay. This place was ideal (price & location). Breakfast brilliant, cleanliness not! Bed very comfortable, good room facilities. Needs more attention to detail.
- Ginny (6/5): Nice little Inn. - To be fair, current landlords trying to run a business whilst coping with frequent flooding. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable and spotless. You can see that an effort is being made to update and modernise a very old coaching inn. Staff were welcoming and helpful.
- Harry Chant (10/5): Welcoming - Tim & Jill gave us a very warm welcome and provided for all we needed on our one night stay. Unfortunately a cloudburst in the night badly flooded the ground floor level but Tim & Jill worked all night to deal with it as best they could and in good spirits. Regardless of the problem Jill still provided us with the cooked breakfast we asked for. The was also an inter-pub skittles match, typical of Somerset so we enjoyed being there as spectators. Will stay again if in that location. 5*
- TR (10/5): Great service - This was a great stay for the price. Greeting on arrival was friendly and helpful, room was fine and the food was excellent - made to order (I'm a picky vegetarian) and the breakfast was lovely. Staff friendliness and efforts to please were notable. Would definitely stay again.
- Pandril (8/5): Great value - Really good pub, good food, and beer, very helpful and welcoming hosts too. It's a bit dated, but still in good condition and very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet pub inn, ideal for short stay - Hotel ideally situated for our one night visit to the South West. Everything was ready in the room which had been well decorated and was extremely well turned out. Breakfast was great with the promised local produce in the full English option. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming. Great Food!! - Myself and a few friends booked into this B&B for a weekend away, visiting River Cottage. The hotel is ideally situated for those with a car, not minding a ilttle drive. We didnt realise that check in was at 5.30pm (a bit late in my opinion), so when we rocked up at 4.30pm, we had to ring the hotel for them to unlock the door! The main hostess/owner is a little eccentric, but its always nice to have a little character when visiting the country. The B&B itself is a charming, period conversion, so a little basic in areas, but ideal for a night or few nights stay in the country. In my opinion it shouldnt be any different. The room was very clean and well proportioned. The breakfast included the next day was very extensive and impressive....pancakes, ommlette, full english, kippers, porridge...etc, so it was really worth the money! Overall we were very impressed with the stay and would recommend it to anyone passing the area!
- Neill. (10/5): - Only stayed the one night. All rooms are very clean and decor very good. Was out o an early start but returned later for food which was nice and because I was running late the hotel made me up a take away breakfast.
The hotel is dog friendly but I would have preferred the dogs and owners to have had food in the bar area which is nice rather than the restaurant area which could be off putting.
Would return, only negative was the price of food !!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic service - After a frustrating time getting to the hotel due to road closure in the vicinity we found a quiet haven to relax. The pub is old and just what a country pub should feel like. The room was a good size with a view over the garden, minimal furniture, but adequate. The bed was a bit on the firm side for me but was clean and furnished with good quality linens and plump pillows. The flat screen TV was too small to see properly from the bed however - my laptop has a larger screen! The bathroom was clean with a shower over the bath, but could do with a bit of a makeover. We had a wonderful evening meal that was 'put together' by the hostess and ourselves from a range of produce she had available from local suppliers. The same went for the breakfast; both meals were well cooked and presented. Overall it was more like being entertained by friends.
- Sarah (10/5): Great value for money - Great value for money. Very clean and friendly. About a mile from the main town so you would need a car if you need to travel but the restaurant looked great and was only just down the stairs. This was a short business stay and suited our needs perfectly. If it's four poster beds and luxury you require then this is not the place for you but for the price it was perfect.
