Guest Reviews
- Paul (9/5): Very good - Continental breakfast was very good. Evening meal a tad expensive, but overall good food, only downside was the Yorkshire Pudding with the Sunday Roast. YP's are meant to be crisp on the outside and light and fluffy inside. The 1 presented was a soggy excuse. But the beef was superb. As above - Yorkshire Pud.
Other small niggle was total lack of any drawer space in the room, too much impractical arty decor, and the small inconvenience of no-one knowing if the cold water in the room was tank or mains.
- Lynne (8/5): All in all a pleasant stay. - Pleasant staff, very comfortable bed, appreciated the fan for the quite warm room, loads of hot water and good shower. Included breakfast was decent. Quiet area and some pleasant walks. Evening meals good but pricey and a bit fussy, and the wine was extremely expensive by bottle or glass.
- Nightingale (8/5): -
- Marie (3/5): Disappointing. - Dinner on the first night was good, although rather expensive.
The room was nicely decorated. At dinner on the second night, I had to send back the starter as it was inedible. From that point on, the staff did the absolute minimum, eg. the room was not serviced for the last 2 days.
Breakfast had very limited options.
The room was 'bijou' ie. very small!
- Lindsey (7/5): - The village was pretty and it was in a good location. The small Continental breakfast was very small. Having to pay for a cooked breakfast.
- Hazel (10/5): Come again - Beautiful Nothing
- Tracey (10/5): Friendly and comfortable - A good nights sleep and an excellent shower
- Philip Nicholls (7/5): Disappointing - The location excellent and our evening meal excellent Very soft mattress, not a good nights sleep. Then no hot water on first morning and had cold shower st 5am before starting a MacMillan Mighty Hike 26 miles from Cromer...so not a good start to the day, no reduction in price as water would be hot by 9am!!
- Susan (4/5): -
- amanda (7/5): Excellent. - Location was great. Staff were friendly , food was delicious. We had a pump outside our room and it went on and off all night! They provided ear plugs in the room but unfortunately I cannot use them . We slept on though
- Chris (9/5): -
- Claire (8/5): - Location is brilliant for nearby Holt and the coast alike
Lovely garden for relaxing and great for the dog

- Guest (8/5): -

- Gavin Simpson (7/5): Atmospheric pub with letting rooms. - Great location for exploring Holt and North Norfolk. Friendly staff and good continental breakfast. Atmospheric pub with letting rooms. Bedroom we had was small although nicely decorated. No where to place cloths and bags other than on the floor. I was kept awake most of the night by exterior extraction fans as kitchen roof was outside our window. We were told the fans would be turned off after the kitchen closed down. One possibly was but the other kept coming on and off all night. My wife didn't hear anything though.
Evening meal was ok but my wife's catch of the day (sea trout) came with a sauce and no veg of any description. Very strange although we did luckily order a side dish which was awful. We have stayed here before and the food was better. Maybe just an off night. Our room was good value but maybe that was because of the kitchen fans.
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Nicholas (6/5): - Nice building and Location Not very inviting eg fires not lit, no candles, felt cold
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Sally (9/5): Lovely pub with accommodation close to M - Lovely cosy atmosphere with character.comfortable bars and restaurant areas .Quiet background music .

Comfortable room with view over meadow and trees ..lots of crows !
Great location for north Norfolk coast .Nearby road but minimal noise .
Definitely recommend. Nothing
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Jane (10/5): Very comfortable bed in our room The Bayfield. The staff Sharon in particular very welcoming - How quiet and near to Holt Nothing
- Giles (7/5): Excellent for holiday makers, but not for people travelling on business. - Very warm welcome and excellent food. Those travelling on business should note that the wifi is very poor and because there is no access to any of the public rooms before 08.30 there is nowhere to work before that time.
- Graeme (8/5): - Room was excellent, lovely restaurant and bar Cooked breakfast not available until 09:30am which is too late.
- Edward (8/5): -
- Chapman (8/5): -

- A M McHugh (10/5): Relaxed atmosphere with great staff - The staff were all cheerful and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Views over the fields and the grazing geese from the bedroom. Good power shower. Historic building and close to Holt. The stay was everything we signed up for and more!
- Hannah (8/5): Loved it and would come back! - Great value, great location and friendly staff. Very relaxed atmosphere with many dogs chilling on their leads. Really enjoyed our day. A little bit noisy in evenings

- Anna (7/5): Would return, enjoyed the location and food was very nice - Bed was very comfortable and location was lovely, staff were very nice Someone was drilling early in the morning which woke us so not a very relaxing morning
- Helen (10/5): Excellent stay in this dog friendly hotel. - Beautiful hotel in a lovely location. Staff were very welcoming to us and our two spaniels. Room was comfortable, food was delicious and evening meal was excellent too. Hotel set back from the road, masses of car parking and lots of areas to walk the dogs close by. Definitely visit again. Nothing
- Terry (9/5): -
- Douglas (10/5): Great place to spend time, would recommend to others - Lovely breakfast.
Great Evening meal .Polite friendly team.I would recommend this place.
The outside garden area was lovely and spacious. Nothing.Perhaps check skirting boards and doors for scuffing marks, not really bothersome.
- Mary (9/5): Lovely staff and a great venue. - Super food - delicious meals. Decor in the bedroom was beautiful and the shower was excellent. Handy fan supplied as it was warm during our stay. Teas and coffees were a good selection. Some confusion as to the start time of breakfast. Would have been useful to have it written down somewhere in our room.
My son banged his head on the door frame as it was a little low. Perhaps a sign on the front and back of the door would have been a helpful reminder to duck!
- Aimee (9/5): -
- Michael (8/5): I was given a voucher as a gift, not sure I would have thought it value for money if I had had to pa - Lovely location, great outdoor space. Staff very friendly. Poor breakfast selection hwne you pay £150/night for a room! Room cleaning not automatic for two night stay
- Eileen (7/5): -
- Susan (10/5): Very relaxing stay in a beautiful room and eating in a fabulous restaurant - Loved the breakfast, beautiful restaurant, comfortable room loved the coffee pod machine, very comfortable bed. Maybe some fresh fruit at breakfast

- Naomi (9/5): The warmest welcome and a beautiful setting, complete with a spacious room. Gorgeous place to stay with the warmest welc - Beautiful building with spacious and warm rooms. Great open fire and excellent menu One of us has a dog allergy - it’s a very dog friendly place and we had some allergy challenges
- Linda (8/5): Great hotel and very friendly staff - Good location for what we needed. Nice continental breakfast with the price but you can upgrade if you wish Our room was above the bar area and a little noisy, the bath/shower were excellent except my husband has a slight disability and was not able to get into the bath
- Jeanette (10/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): Fabulous Pub with great rooms, great food and - The staff treat you like next of kin. The pub / restaurant are excellent. Beer is excellent. They only use the best suppliers for all the food anywhere, the PACT coffee is unbeatable, the fish superb and we had the best oysters ever. I should have stayed two nights rather than one
- Michael (9/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): - Continental breakfast and the service was excellent. The bed was lovely and comfortable. Enjoyed the shower Maybe a choice of less strong coffee in the room.
- Stephen (9/5): Great weekend stay in Norfolk! - Great location ( we had tickets for Thursford Christmas Spectacular), and for visiting Christmas market in Holt. The mattress was a little bit firm for me personally but still comfortable.
- Harry (6/5): It was just ok - Location ,bar room facilities Overpriced eg glass of
wine + 1/2 lager £14
Size of room for £170 night
Food basics
- JILL (5/5): Wouldn’t recommend. - Nice bar area. The heating in the room was intense, tried to turn off the radiator to no avail. Opened the window wide and used a fan. Still VERY uncomfortable sleeping. Pillows very hard.
Breakfast was a very sparse ‘continental’ breakfast. Never had such a poor ‘continental’ breakfast in my life. For £170 per night expected more than an uncomfortable stay with a poor breakfast.
- Denise (8/5): -
- John (10/5): One night stay - It is a very comfortable hotel. All staff friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Nothing could be bettered.
- derek (10/5): - Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was excellent and very clean Nothing
- Teresa (9/5): A real treat to stay in the King’s Head close to Holt & the Christmas Spectacular show at Thursford - Wonderful atmosphere in a relaxed setting Nothing
- David (6/5): Somewhat disappointed - Arrived early, was shown to room despite being an hour pre-check in time. room was very warm (hail/ snow outside)
Very helpful and accommodating staff. The dining room was cold, despite the log burner being on. It was also cold at breakfast the next morning, the other couple having breakfast were wearing their puffa jackets.
The breakfast offered was cereal and toast and croissant. I had expected a cooked option/ porridge.
There didn't seem to be many staff for breakfast and it was overall rather disappointing as the rest of the stay had been nice.
- susan and (10/5): great - all excellent
- ROBINSON (4/5): - Miserable hotel and surroundings will not visit again
- Penny (10/5): Very kind and helpful staff made our stay very enjoyable - Everything went well. The kitchen is open all day and the food was excellent. Access is Ona blind bend which is a little awkward
