The advice in advance about booking an evening meal at Daphne’s for Sunday when we arrived, as the hotel only serves lunch, was helpful. The lift out of town to resume our walk on the Offa’s Dyke trail went above and beyond and we were very grateful. The continental breakfast and the lack of cooked breakfast was a bit disappointing.

- Christine (8/5): Beautiful old building in quiet town - Good dinner menu Lovely large room Fantastic staff The pillows were like concrete so did not help for a good night's sleep We unfortunately were on the top floor, very difficult narrow and steep stairs to struggle up with or without cases! Windows in dire need of maintenance Husband very disappointed to find there were no cooked breakfasts!

- Harry Dog (9/5): - Travelled as a group of 9 cyclists and stayed in 5 rooms. The team made us very welcome, allowed us to store our bikes in a locked garage overnight and were very helpful at check-in directing us to our various rooms. No complaints, only compliments, from any of the "boys" on leaving - a rare exception. Glad I booked. Bar area was busy with locals - friendly atmosphere - good selection of draught drinks at reasonable prices. Some would have like a cooked breakfast but the continental spread was excellent and regularly topped up.

The setting of the property is lovely and really liked the play area Some of the rooms had quite low ceilings that was a challenge for my husband. We had expected a cooked breakfast so they should maybe be a bit more explicit about the breakfast options.

It was not a particular problem for me but my room was reached by stairs going down to the bedroom itself. It was a bit tricky getting my bags up and down.

- jonathan (8/5): Exceeded our expectations. - A very good breakfast, but some visitors might wish to have a full English, but for the money, the continental was very good value. Room was far too hot for us, but the radiators were easily turned down as we live in a draughty old pile! Shower was extremely hot as well! Fascinating historical building with many interesting features such as a priest hole, 17th century paneled rooms and past owners connected to Charles 1st and Mary Queen of the Scots.

- Peter (8/5): An ideal spot right at the centre of Presteigne - Breakfast was continental as advertised. It was fine, no issues with it and more than adequate. We were going to a funeral in the afternoon and asked the host if we could delay our check out time...he immediately agreed which made our challenging day somewhat less challenging. The only thing that was a little difficult was the parking. It was free, as advertised. It was very close to the hotel, as advertised . The only difficulty was that the access to the hotel was down several sets of steep steps. Whilst not a huge problem, it was a little unsettling when going down steeps with a case in each hand! We would still have stayed there but it would have been good to know.
- Bryonie (10/5): Really good,would like to visit again. - Wonderful break, with a plenty full of breakfast available. Yogurts, fresh fruit, cold meats and cheese . Loads of toast of all sorts ,and hot coffee on tap . ( teas and juices there )a good choice of cereals too. The bar was well stocked, cheerful and snug . The owner was very chatty and informed us of the local area . Evening meal excellent, and the Sunday carvery lunch good value and plenty of it.
- Rosie (6/5): Up your breakfast game. - Room was quiet and comfortable and clean and we enjoyed our stay. We had a lovely walk in the woods just outside the town and enjoyed excellent concerts at the Presteigne Festival. Breakfast was where this hotel let itself down. It is fine to offer a self-service continental breakfast only but the components need to be good quality - perhaps locally sourced bread/honey/jam/yoghurt and good coffee. What was on offer was highly processed/longlife - more redolent of a motorway service station than a country hotel. Less is more when the less is good. Also the toaster was the slowest in the world and the dining room was over crowded so one felt rather squeezed by people going up and down to serve themselves.

Friendly staff and a great place to stay when catching up with family. So glad to see this lovely pub restored to its former glory after seeing it run down and for sale on our last visit in 2019.

- Victoria (6/5): Good, clean hotel with nice staff, prefect for one or two nights - The hotel was clean and well presented with very polite staff. The outside area was very pretty and my girls enjoyed playing in the little playground. Food was good and overall the hotel was what we needed for our overnight stay. My only complaint was the single bed I slept in which was extremely springy, creaky and uncomfortable. Our room was also too hot as the towel radiator didn’t go off so I had a terrible nights sleep. We stayed in the garden chalets, potentially the main hotel beds might be better quality.

This time we was shown to our room over the road which puzzled me as it looked like a garage. But I must admit was a brilliant room and very cozy and comfortable would deffo rebook and select that room again 👍🏻 The only thing I could have maybe asked for was the water a little hotter in the shower but it was manageable at the max setting

The staff were friendly and courteous, even when we reported that the hairdryer in the room had exploded when plugged in. I felt that the breakfast was so-so, the delicious fresh fruit salad was offset by pre-packed pastries and somewhat dried out cold-cuts. Similarly the thoughtful cookies in the room were also a mismatch for the single--serving Nescafé pouches. And while I understand that the hotel would prefer that one eats in their restaurant for dinner, I think our request for external recommendations could have been met with a bit more knowledge/kindness.

- Farra (8/5): Convenient and comfortable. Lovely friendly staff! - Comfortably sized rooms. Ours had a kettle, microwave and fridge in the kitchenette with fairy liquid which was a bonus. Staff were very helpful and friendly, went the extra mile to make our stay as comfortable as possible- and accommodated our requirement for early breakfast on the Sunday! Continental breakfast only had pork-based meats and not many varieties of cheese.
