Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nothing like the photos! - The booking we made on hotels.com said check in at 1pm. On arrival, just after 1, the place looked closed with no obvious way of gaining entry or contacting the owners. The pictures bare no resemblance to the state of the pub. All the flowers are dead and the exterior is covered on cobwebs.
I asked next door at at the restaurant how we might gain entry and a rather aggressive woman escorted me back to the Lamb inn and banged loudly on the door shouting at the staff inside! Was incredibly intimidating! A very young girl answered the door and said check in was 3pm.
We returned after 3pm and were escorted up a filthy fore escape past a huge dead plant to the rooms. All of which added to the trepidation of what the room was going to be like. In fact, the room inside was OK. Clean sheets and towels. No soap or anything like that but despite the wonky single bed (there were 2 and we only have 1 child so fortunately didn’t need to use that bed) the room was adequate.
All in all, it was very overpriced for the stay, we were on a roadtrip so only did one night there but it was the worst value place we stayed. I would not recommend it.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We decided after viewing the establishment not to stay
- Debbie (2/5): - It wax
- Rosemary (6/5): - Very pleasant room but noisy because overlooked the pub back yard where conversation continued into the small hours. Bathroom ok but shower very basic and difficult to operate. Good breakfast and very friendly waitress. It’s an old building so difficult to keep clean.
- Ben (2/5): - Disasterous stay, owners dog attacked ours twice in the first hour, bathroom had shower gel instead of soap. A bunch of stuff in the room was broken.
We couldn't have been made to feel more unwelcome.
- Mellanie (6/5): - Very worn bathroom. Shower glass not been cleaned for some time. When boiling the kettle inside could have been descaled as not done I some time and all the cartons of milk were dated March, so they all had to go in the bin
- Jane (2/5): - it was the most awful place i have stayed in 66 years and i have travelled all rond europe 40 years ago. this had bed out of god knows where. the only clean thing was the sheets. this was in Malborough and cost £100 with no breakfast. i went to coffi lab the only place open on easter monday the very worst thing was the person we paeyed was drunk or high and there was a gas boiler in our bed room. A big no no luckily the rotten window was wide open.
i am amaazed this place is on your site. I will not use it again
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing - A very basic room. We stayed above the courtyard which was incredibly noisy and there was a band playing until 11.30pm, which we hadn’t been pre-warned about. The advert on booking stated free breakfast but on arrival we were told this didn’t apply to our booking???
The light in our room didn’t work efficiently (kept blinking on and off) and the bathroom window was broken so couldn’t be opened. On a plus - the landlady (who wasn’t on the premises during our stay) was incredibly lovely when she phoned the next day.
- Alan (6/5): - Nice, helpful staff. Bed comfortable
- Mary (4/5): Avoid This Place - The Lamb Inn sounds charming, but reality is a shock. You enter through a pub, with an iffy clientele staring at you. Our room was on a second floor, no elevator, just a very, very step stairway with spiders and webs.
Our room was small and the bathroom was a joke. Water was either ice cold or scalding hot and the controls didn't work. Toilet didn't flush properly and no service in terms of fresh towels or emptying wastebasket.
As pubs are now smoke-free, the entire center of the property, which you must pass through to access rooms, has overflowing ashtrays and smells of stale cigarettes all the time.
Only decent thing was breakfast, Very nice woman prepared and served and I'm guessing isn't there any longer.
Parking is a nightmare as it's close to downtown with time restrictions. Not even a loading zone so you could drop off bags.
Yes it sounds charming and old photos are misleading. Reality is borderline nightmare. Hotels.com ought to post a warning next to the listing.
- Simon (2/5): - Nobody turned up to cook the included breakfast in the morning so I had to leave without eating. Missing shower door. Dirty bath mat. Dry drink packages not refilled. Extremely difficult to park. Had to move car three times and then park on street far from hotel overnight.
- Teresa (10/5): It’s just fine if you don’t need WiFi or shower - The staff was very friendly but I have to admit the internet even at times when I could connect was so weak, I couldn’t even access my emails. The shower has a power saver machine on it but the problem is the hot water cycles from cold to warm to scalding and around and around so you constantly have to dip under and out. I can’t say the stay was worth the price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): no one turned up to cook breakfast - Room was fine booked short notice but only 2 stars as no one turned up to cook breakfast so after waiting half an me and other guests let ourselves out and left hungry
- Christopher (6/5): - Redeemed themselves by an excellent breakfast and pleasant atmosphere. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Best part! Previously unhappy about noise levels - live music till 11.15, other music till 11.30.
- Neville (6/5): Old pub in a central area - in need of updating - Chaotic check-in as pub was preparing for 'cheap pie night' and bar area was occupied with many young children and their mothers. Room key could not be located for a while. Room was spacious but - like the pub - in need of updating.
Parking was only on-street and subject to the municipal restrictions. Pub location was good for other eating options but slightly noisy from traffic.
- DAVID (10/5): Fab Little Pub Stay - Clean and comfortable room, good WiFi, friendly staff and a fantastic cooked breakfast! Would recommend!
- Nicholas (8/5): - Breakfast good . Old fashioned pub bit tatty but bedrooms good . Handy for town
- Howard (8/5): - Centrally located with friendly staff & a thriving bar with a good atmosphere.
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely staff and great atmosphere
- Ala (8/5): Short stay - Shower head hardly working. Needs thorough clean. Toilet flush very difficult to use
- Helen (8/5): - The bedroom was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. Breakfast was outstanding, the lady who cooked and served it was lovely. Staff were pleasant & friendly too.
- Nicole (10/5): - We were visiting relatives in the area so only needed a bed and a shower, the Lamb inn gave us both with a friendly staff and a great breakfast!
- M (8/5): Old Coaching Inn - This is a pub, my room was above the courtyard which was heavily used and therefore noisy. Breakfast was very good, Becky did a excellent job.
- Len (8/5): - Staff very friendly Despite the building being from the 17the century it has been well maintained
- Patrick (4/5): - The room hadn’t been cleaned from the previous day when I arrived - staff very apologetic - breakfast the following morning was worse- I waited 30 mins after being asked if I wanted tea or coffee - so I got up and left
- Judith (8/5): - Helpful pleasant staff. Good size room for a single person.
- rajesh (2/5): a lot of work needed - very run down. room over poorly kept courtyard overlooking bins. hanging off shelfing in bathroom. toilet flush not working. friendly staff.
- rajesh (2/5): a lot of work needed - very run down. room over poorly kept courtyard overlooking bins. hanging off shelfing in bathroom. toilet flush not working. friendly staff.
- TRACEY (6/5): - We were disappointed that the accommodation did not match up with the photos and reviews. The room was very ‘tired’, but the bed was comfy. Good English breakfast.
- Simon (10/5): - A lovely wecome
A lovely room
And a fantastic outside area
- peter (6/5): - The best bit about the stay was an excellent full English breakfast with superb scrambled eggs - that part gets 5 stars the rest was average other than good staff.
- toby (10/5): - great location , very Friendly Service
- Tatiana (10/5): - Clean and good facilities
- Trevor (6/5): Basic, but staff friendly! - Basic surroundings, desperately needs updating. The staff were friendly and helpful but we got the feeling the pub was struggling. The room was tiny but clean, we were unable to open the bathroom window as it was broken. Hot tap needed a washer and dripped all the time. Beds were comfortable though. Note No parking so had to park in the long stay car park and keep feeding the meter. Not ideal!
- Adrian (10/5): - Exceptionally friendly welcome in a fantastic pub. No complaints at all - I am just sorry that I missed breakfast as I had to leave early
- Treena (10/5): - Nice location and welcoming staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good size room but loud - It's a good location and staff are lovely, however it was very loud from the pub downstairs and we found it hard to go to sleep. We could hear the bathroom next door and our bathroom door didn't close in the room. Room was a decent size.
- Andrea (10/5): - Great location and comfortable room; reasonably priced. Would stay again.
- Christine (8/5): Would recommend - Although it is a pub it was totally quiet by 11.30pm. Very comfortable bed, probably the best sleep I have had for years. Very good breakfasts, continental for me & full English for my husband & certainly enough to eat. Very close to the High Street but still not noisy. Would recommend & hope to have a return visit.
- Cathy (10/5): - The room is lovely, cosy and warm. There is everything we need and our dog was made welcome.
- Karen (10/5): Amazing weekend break in Marlborough. - We had an absolutely amazing time. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming. Good beer, fabulous breakfasts and Sunday roast was perfect. It's the perfect location for visiting the area. Our room was comfortable, clean and warm. Thank you for making us feel so welcome; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back again.
- Jonathan (10/5): Lovely Inn - the proper way to see Marlborough - The Inn was a cracking place to stay. The bed was comfy, room was warm and had a great shower. The Inn itself had a lovely wood burner on and the food offerings were well received by the other patrons. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were excellent, always smiling and up for a chat. Would definitely stay again next time I'm in the area!
- Tatiana (10/5): - Very cosy room, everything is clean, great breakfast
- Mike (8/5): Basic but goid value - Basic accommodation but great location and friendly staff. Nice breakfast
- Nino (10/5): - Friendly welcome in a traditional pub. Lovely!
- Steve (6/5): - The room was clean.
- Mike (8/5): Great stay - Beautiful old building, lovely room. Shower room very small. Great breakfast. Only negative was they should tell you about live band when booking, the whole building was shaking!
- Julian (10/5): Two night stay - Room was a good size and comfortable. Breakfast good also. Would certainly stay again.
- Suzanne (8/5): - This is such a great pub. So friendly, and our dog was welcomed with open arms! Full english breakfast included too, what more do you want?
- Victoria (10/5): - Very quaint room with original features on the first floor of the inn, situated in the centre of Marlborough. Nice freshly cooked breakfast and friendly staff.
- Debbie (10/5): Good option - I enjoyed my stay at the Lamb Inn. The hosts were friendly and good location in centre of town. Parking a bit of an issue generally in Marlborough, but you can park in the street outside the hotel for 2 hours for free & anytime after 18.00 hrs Mondays to Saturdays. There is an overnight car park nearby, so not too bad.
- Justine (8/5): Lovely warm welcoming Inn - Lovely trip to Marlborough and stay at the Lamb Inn. Well located and staff were lovely. Really felt comfortable and welcome and the breakfasts were great.. would recommend as great value for money
- James (10/5): - Great staff and owners. Hugely patient and accommodating with our frenetic family. Warm, cosy, comfortable with good food and beer!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very run down and filthy. Do not stay here
- Trevor (6/5): Excellent breakfast - Room fine, comfortable bed, good towels, excellent breakfast. Would have preferred to see staff wearing masks. Street parking close to hotel but had to be moved by 10.00am.
- Jeanne (10/5): - Staff were amazing. Sorted out everything for us. Highly recommend.
- Andrew (10/5): Lamb Inn - Excellent stay at the Lamb, staff couldn’t have been more helpful or polite, great breakfast also included in the price, overall good value comfortable stay.
- Helen (10/5): Excellent pub with overnight accommodation - Excellent friendly pub, very popular with locals. Food delicious, the Tapas was better than any we have had in Spain. Clean bedroom with comfortable beds & tea & coffee making facilities. Fabulous full English breakfast all served by professional friendly staff adhering to all Covid imposed restrictions. Would highly recommend. Marlborough is an up market Market town with a wide variety of shops & drinking & dining
- Izaak (10/5): Amazing Stay - Amazing stay, so much fun. Lovely staff really well looked after. Food and drink was excellent. Highly recommend the Lamb Inn to anyone!
- Alison (10/5): The Lamb Inn Marlborough - Friendly lovely staff lovely room stylish and cozy. Prefer light preventing curtains but the bed curtains were a nice plus. Tres antique in style lived that.
Defo stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Home from home
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great breakfast!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Avoid - Would not recommend.
Check in was frustrating - the member of staff who took us to our room didn't know basic information such as what time breakfast was.
Bed was a double bed frame with a mattress, with an extra mattress placed on top of it which was wider than the frame! My partner almost fell off the bed.
Terrible sleep - the radiator was clanging all night.
There was a lot of mess and paperwork in the bar/dining area and random plants in the hallway to the bedroom. We also asked for some local advice and got a very blunt response from staff.
Finally, breakfast wasn't pleasant. We were given a dirty cafetiere and the butter was dated 23rd December 2020!!! We also weren't asked what we wanted for breakfast, we were just given a full english and told "sorry i couldnt find any sausages, so i gave you an extra egg" - there was no question around dietary requirements etc. Won't stay again.
- kerry (2/5): Do not book this! - Hotel was unmanned, made a reservation, arrived to check in, no staff in the building. Found my room on my own however it was clearly being renovated and not fit for a stay.Do not book this hotel at any cost. Their phone number permanently goes to voicemail. Am taking further action.
- Patricia (8/5): - Nice place to stay, problem with the hot water was dealt with and apologised for
- Shaun (8/5): - Everything went very smoothly and the room was very comfortable
- Sophie (8/5): nice - Just right, nice room in a nice little town
- Paul (10/5): - In the town centre, plenty of pubs and restaurants. Lovely place to say, nice breakfasts and nice friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was clean and close to town. The staff are also very friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were friendly, the room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, good shower, as forewarned there was live music and although we didn't join in it was nice to hear from our room. only stayed 1 night and skipped breakfast so not much more I can comment on
- Seedave (8/5): - Handy location for town. Very helpful staff. Crisp cotton sheets. Basic breakfast but good coffee.
- Fiona (10/5): Hospitable and stylish pub rooms - A very comfortable stay and excellent value. My room was across the courtyard and had a very comfortable bed and a spacious shower room.(Quite steep stairs) The breakfast was very good self service with porridge, toast and ham and coffee plus a selection of yoghurts and patisserie. Friendly and helpful hosts. Would come again.
- Johny (6/5): - Breakfast a bit basic full English would of been great
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Geat location, amazing pub, courtyard stable etc.
Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment.
However i would stay again.
- jeff (8/5): solo, one night stay - it does exactly what says on the tin, great place.i will definitely stay there again
- david (6/5): - No food on a Saturday so had to go out in the rain to look for food very noisy because there was a band in the pub should have been notified of both of theses when booking
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The stable room was nice and quiet. Comfortable bed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff were very friendly. The room was comfortable. The location was very good, close to town centre. Parking was good. The shower did not work properly, it ran cold continuously. The breakfast included in the rate was advertised as 'full breakfast', but this was not the case in reality. The breakfast provided was the 'continental' style - i.e. cereal, yoghurt, toast, fruit, etc.
- brian (8/5): Lively pub - Busy town - plenty of pubs, etc. The Lamb is a lively pub with the most attractive barmaid in town!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lively locals pub, our room was across the courtyard so was very quiet. Clean and comfortable with everything youd want, bearing in mind its not the ritz.
- Clive (10/5): 5* - Excellent, couldn’t fault the place. Would recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room is very cozy, it seems to be home; staff is very friendly. The breakfast is self service in the morning with a good choice of cereals, milk, yogurt, orange juice, coffee, toast, ham and egged, jam, fruit and some biscuits. There is a little car park very close to it free from 6pm to 9am, enough for staying the night, may be a problem during the day.
Definitely to come again..
- John (8/5): A traditional hotel inn - A great hotel in an excellent location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My mum and dad stayed at the lamb while visiting my partners parents. They has a lovely stay and said the beds were extremely comfortable. We had a great weekend.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No parking, Breakfast was set up in an area full of clutter and very basic, doors throughout were sticky to touch. Room was fine but shower needs replacing.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Big issue was that we weren't told there was no parking anywhere nearby where we could put the car. It was suggested that we could park in Waitrose but there were limitations on when you could do that. Pub was a bit tired, pretty with lots of hanging baskets, but my room was above the courtyard so was noisy if I had windows open. Also, stairs up to my room smelt very musty but room ok and bed comfy. Biggest disappointment was breakfast facilities, continental but food just put on one small table in tatty room behind bar, cereals in plastic containers so you didn't even know what brand they were, a few slices of bread wrapped in clingfilm, a few cherry tomatoes, baby bell and some slices of ham in a small fridge in corner of room, tea and coffee was a machine that you operated yourself. Certainly not a standard I would expect for paying £70 per night. So disappointed overall and would not go back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely inn in the heart of Marlborough with clean, comfortable rooms. Lovely stay on route to Devon.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The WiFi never worked had to try to use alternatives freebies.....eventually had to go to a coffee shop a few blocks away to get adequate internet access. Parking was problem in day time as could only park nearby for 2 hrs and in paid car park a few blocks away for maybe 4 hours. Facilities and staff were excellent
- William (10/5): - Excellent room, great staff and nice help yourself breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was clean and tidy, the staff were friendly. The access door was a bit cluttered, had some wood resting up against the wall by the door. The stairs were awkward with heavy suitcases but the staff did offer to help😊
- Verified traveler (8/5): Marlborough weekend away - Great room with comfy bed . Could have quoted that there was no cooked hot food at breakfast only cold buffet available but this was sufficient for our one night stay
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Bed very comfortable. Good shower. Room clean. But generally Inn very shabby and no staff around at the help yourself poor continental breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location, beer, and the rooms were nice and clean.
- Peter (4/5): Poor overall accommodation - The room was quite adequate though small. The pub had no working kitchen that evening and the limited, cold breakfast was very poor. The breakfast area was cluttered with junk. Very poor overall experience. Staff were friendly when there was someone there. Would not recommend this inn at all.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Bleachy Dogs - Pub was full of dogs. A couple off leads you had to dodge through. After the locals were served their drinks I was checked in at back of pub - Room was comfortable and seemed clean. Stairs to the rooms and the back of pub smelt so bad of bleach and wet dog in the morning I almost threw up so couldnt physically stay for breakfast which was setup in back area. No staff were about in the morning - wont be returning
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was fine, fresh and clean, lovely fluffy towels. However for the price we were disappointed with the breakfast, nothing cooked and a poor selection of continental breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was nice and the staff were friendly, The room was nice and clean the bathroom was small.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A great hotel in the heart of a wonderful town with a well stocked bar.
A beautiful part of the country with lots to see and do.
A tip for parking. We went to the long stay just off the high street so could forget about the car.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was in the middle of the town...great. The room was dirthy .the breakfast was almost nothing what they promised. To bad!
- TREVOR (6/5): - Was looking forward to a nice breakfast and was told that breakfast would be from 8am as I was working that was a little late for me. But I came down at 8am and no one was around thenI noticed some Bread on a Table which the birds would have turned there nose up. Then When I came to go to work I waited to be let out but there didn’t seem to be anyone around other than me so I unbolted the door and left.😡
