Guest Reviews
Bref, passez votre chemin.
- M (4/5): - The room was represented as having a separate twin bed in addition to a queen. It did not. The room was not very clean and it was extremely small. I suppose that the charm, but it was not charming. The staff had no idea that they offered breakfast and when we arrived, a 10 year-old kid greeted us. He was the only person there.
Getting hot water for the shower was not easy and the bathroom door wouldn't close (it actually sprung open unless you barricaded it). The bed was not at all comfortable and you couldn't be sure if it was really clean or not.
Overall, not a good experience unless you're expecting those kind of amenities. We were, and it was still bad. Please do not go there.
- Michael (10/5): Like sleeping in the set for a Mao movie., - Extended my stay by a day and had to find a different hotel due to an international leaders meeting at the hotel I was staying. The area is close to all the tourist attractions. The hotel is unlike anything you’ve likely stayed at. It’s like a miniature set for a Mao movie. If you are a McDonalds 1/day international traveler better look elsewhere. If you want a great memory/experience (and a very hard bed) this place is perfect. Glad I stayed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- nils (8/5): Something to enjoy for the curious.. - As it is, a Small Hotel with four rooms in an mod House in a hutong. However fitted with moderne bathroom facilities. Integrering for its historie values and the Mao- fiction.
- Eric (6/5): - It was nice location and decorations were nice but it needs an upgrade drastically.
- Scott (6/5): Weird but interesting hotel. - If you're expecting a normal hotel then this probably isn't for you. This is much more like a home-stay where the rooms are unique, not clean. The staff is nice, but they're not the Hilton where everyone speaks English and is falling over themselves to accommodate you.
- Somm (8/5): A sense of history - We weren't interested in staying in the standard Western hotel and this cute courtyard boutique hotel was perfect for us. Experience the hutong, close to subways, walkable to Forbidden City, Tianemen Square, Drum/Bell tower and Lama Temple. The staff is friendly and helpful despite the language barrier. Rooms are cute and lots of history. The bomb shelter bar is very unique
- Suz (4/5): - Safe didn't work, sink didn't drain, fittings in room and onsuite are in desperate need of some architecturally senitive, but extensive, updating. In current state it is not at all value for money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lots of character - This hotel is very cool, with lots of kitschy decor. It's in a very tranquil traditional Chinese building, so it's very quiet and peaceful. Possibly a little overpriced, but still quite charming. A decent breakfast is included, and the staff are very helpful. The location is okay, but a little far from the Metro. Overall, a good choice if you want an interesting place to stay with some character.
- Steve (6/5): Museum - If you want a hutong style hotel this is for you. Unfortunately, the Western man who owns the hotel is more interested in his memorabilia collection than running a hotel. The place is stuffed with great artifacts at the expensive of space and cleanliness. The staff is super helpful and always solving problems, that unfortunately should not have existed in the first place. No hot water on both days? Stay a night or two for the experience, then move on to better.
- Jeff (8/5): - Great place to stay if you want to experience the feel of a chinese courtyard house in a hutong. Yes, the rooms and bathrooms are on the small side by today's standards, but that is part of the charm. They worked with what the original building had to offer when they converted it to a small hotel. The staff was really great. Could not have been more helpful.
- jt (8/5): unique place to stay - This inn is a unique place to stay in Beijing. It is a former traditional Chinese residence and the rooms are around a small courtyard. The rooms are comfortable with western style bathrooms. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. They will arrange rides and are very nice. I enjoyed staying there but it is not for everyone.
My only major criticism is that they have the worst mattresses I've ever slept on.
