Guest Reviews
- Sunil (10/5): Awesome property in Munnar - a rare gem. - Location, staff, cleanliness and food. The view is pretty mesmerising, espcially from the pool villas 601 and 602.
Food is good and it's a well kept and clean property. Chinnakanal is a good spot in munnar even during summers..its pleasant weather and there is no better property in chinnakanal, from what i have seen. Nothing too dislike here.
- AJEESH (10/5): Excellent property. Loved everything - Everything. The location, the property, amenities, staff- all of it. Very polite and helpful staff and they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was good. They only have a few cottages so we got a very personal experience from the staff and the property. Starting from the security to the reception staffs to restaurant staff- all are amazing and kind. The property is in multiple levels deep inside the nature on a big land. They have two pools, library, and a lot of green space to walk around. Although we went in hot summer it still was good. They gave us cookies baked in their own Clay Owen which was delicious and every product In their property such as soap shampoo etc were all very good scented. They organise many activities like walks, cooking classes and yoga. This is a great property and I loved everything about it especially the staff. Nothing. If I am to say one comment I might add the food in their restaurant. It was definitely good but I’ve had better food.
- Adam Petit (9/5): Beautiful Place - Beautiful ambience. TV had nothing in English to watch.
- Dávid (10/5): Breathtaking views from the rooms, serene environment, excellent staff - best resort in my life so far - This resort is a gem hidden in the hillside cardamom plantations just above Bison Valley. The resort has everything you may need during a holiday, so you may stay onsite for days if you want. The staff offer several onsite and offsite activities you can choose from (hikes, tea tasting, yoga, etc.). All of these were good experiences for us. They helped us arrange taxi rides to Munnar and Chokramudi (the latter is a must-see if you’re in the neighbourhood). Overall, the staff were extremely helpful and kind, they provided an optimal service where we felt pampered but never intruded. The tap water was a bit yellowish, so it didn’t look best in the jacuzzi. Also, it was a pity that cooking classes and some food items from the menu were not available due to the natural gas shortage.
- PortolaValleyLMS (10/5): Great Property; Great Dining; Great Service - We enjoyed this terrific property with outstanding views. We loved our room overlooking the valley--except, it is a long way from the main building and restaurant over somewhat difficult steps at night and in the rain. Not much one can do about the location of the better rooms but, for other folks, a request to stay in rooms closer to the main building should be considered.
The food was terrific and we had a dining room in our room--the staff served our dinners course by course which was a great experience.
The infinity pool in our room overlooking the valley was perfect. We enjoyed it after a long day of sight seeing.
I highly recommend this property.
- 919sanjeevs (10/5): Our favourite Kerala place so far - We arrived from Thekkady, having already spent time in Kovalam and on the houseboats in Alleppey. The drive was long but absolutely lovely, with breathtaking scenery throughout.
The hotel itself is set on a hill, so be aware there are some steep climbs from the lower areas up to reception, but the views more than make up for it.
Check-in was straightforward, and we were then taken to our room. The room was rustic in style, but certainly not basic. It felt thoughtfully designed and high quality. Highlights included a beautiful copper bath, copper ceiling fans, effective air conditioning, a private plunge pool, proper coffee (not the usual instant found elsewhere), and one of the best views we’ve had on this trip.
We took part in the complimentary tea tasting, which was a great experience, followed by one of the organised sunset walks. This lasted about an hour. It was lovely, with incredible scenery, though slightly challenging in parts.
Dinner can be pre-ordered, which we did, and the food was excellent. It was noticeably less spicy than other places we’ve visited, which allowed us to really enjoy the flavours without being overwhelmed by chilli, though I’m sure they would adjust spice levels if requested. The wine selection was also decent.
On our first night, I had the lamb with nutmeg, and my wife had the chicken tikka masala. Both were excellent.
The staff were great too. The messages amazing. Yoga was cancelled the first morning, although they did let us use the yoga room for ourselves.
Overall, we would highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Munnar, which you absolutely should.
- RichardT4466 (10/5): If you want to take time out and relax in Kerala this is the place to do it - What a fabulous stay we had at the Spice Tree. Our room, one of the two pool villas with a view of the Bison Valley, was one of the best hotel rooms we've ever stayed in. It was a bit of a steep walk downhill to our room (and up again for breakfast) but well worth it. Kerala is full of great food and the restaurant here doesn't disappoint - the roasted masala prawns were a flavour sensation, as was the tandoori paneer. We'd particularly recommend trying the lunchtime cookery demonstrations - and you get to eat the food afterwards. We'd go back here again and again if we could.
- pennyj0n (10/5): If you want to relax this is the place - So peaceful, you are immersed in the magic of nature, at times we felt as if we were the only people there, friendly service, amazing view from our room, our package included a leg and foot massage which was greatly needed after a lot of travelling, food good, would recommend
- 0115tara (10/5): Absolute heaven ❤️ - A literally stunning location, the service was impeccable, beautifully clean rooms but the best thing of all … the food - out of this world perfection. The best food I have ever had in Asia. Absolutely loved it.
- T3909LUandrewl (10/5): Highly recommend - Our stay exceeded our expectations I all respects and the location of the hotel provides stunning views over the valley below. We enjoyed the following activities at the hotel; tea tasting, walk to dolmens and Indian head massage.
- 17SC (10/5): A relaxing and beautiful place to stay - A beautiful gem set in the calm and relative cool of the hills. Fantastic service and delicious food. The rooms are sumptuous and very clean. I asked for a room near to reception, restaurant etc due to my husband’s mobility.
They do allow children We like children but there was no escape as the restaurant , pool and our room were very close together and with the families camping out at the pool it was noisy. We complained and they addressed the issue immediately. I’m not sure it’s a place for children as there is no room to run around.
The massage there was wonderful and the evening walk.
A really lovely stay and we felt well looked after. Thank you.
- Nicholas (10/5): A genuinely lovely place to stay. - Beautiful rooms, with all facilities to a very high standard. A glorious view . A really peaceful and well hidden location in the hills. Amazingly attentive and helpful staff. Great food ( genuinely the best we have yet tasted, three weeks into our month long road trip) . It's a special place. With free biscuits made on site !!! Not really a dislike but... It's a serious hike to get there. Very narrow and windy roads. The property is also on a steep hillside. Not good for those who may have mobility issues.
- Nigel & Anne Marie (10/5): Wonderful location and a great experience - Very attentive staff, excellent food. Very enjoyable programme of complementary activities filled a day. Fabulous location. Nothing
- patrickm123 (10/5): Exceptional care - especially on gluten-free - We have been coming here for many years and, as always, the staff in every department took every opportunity to go the extra mile to make our stay perfect.
As a relatively recent coeliac, I particularly appreciated the exceptional effort made by chef Anil and the in-house bakery team to produce excellent gluten-free breakfast bread, dinner rolls and ragi (millet) chapatis. So often hotels say that GF poses no problems, when all they really mean is they’ll leave things off my plate, sometimes to the point of leaving me hungry. But not here. Very much appreciated.
They do, of course, need prior notice.
- avY9952JQ (10/5): Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - We recommend the Spice Tree very highly. From the first greeting to the final tasty breakfast, we were treated with kindness and efficiency.
The views are stunning, the rooms are comfortable, and the food delicious. A great place to relax and feel indulged.
Many thanks from Karen and Alix,
Cambridge UK.
- 452MichaelL (10/5): Delightful hotel in quiet position outside Munnar - Delightful small hotel in isolated position in hills outside Munnar. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Very comfortable room but note a lot of steps to some.
- 723hilaryc (10/5): Mrs C - An excellent hotel with views from the bedroon were outstanding as were the bedrooms. Hotel offers guided walks and tea tasting. Not far from the tea plantations. Breakfast and dinner were excellent.
- Danielle (10/5): Beautiful Experience to Recharge - I had an amazing stay at the SpiceTree. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, paying close attention to every need and detail. The grounds were beautiful and tucked into gorgeous mountains and spice plantation. You have everything you need there with many activities like hikes, spa, tea tasting and cooking lessons. I absolutely loved this place and hope to come back some day! Highly recommended!!!
- simalib (10/5): Spectacular views - A visit to the Spice Tree is worth it for the views alone. We woke up in mornings to a spectacular view. Lovely hotel with excellent staff. Free half massage included within our rate plus a guide for local walks. We saw the sun fall on a lovely 90 minute early evening walk. Food is excellent with good choice.
- AlisonB920 (10/5): Stunning views and a great team - We stayed two nights here in the middle of our Kerala tour. The views from this property are stunning - we slept with open curtains and woke to the spectacular view. The hotel includes massages, guided walks in front the price which we enjoyed. The food was excellent with good choice at breakfast and dinner. Bathrooms are simple but clean. Every member of staff was delightful and made us feel very welcome. We were sad to leave.
- SurreyHolidayer (10/5): A lovely place to stay! - Spice Tree Munnar is a beautiful hotel with stunning views, it was a welcome oasis after a lot of sightseeing and city tours. The rooms were beautiful with many thoughtful touches; our party had the honeymoon suite and cosy cottage.
The complimentary activities such as tea tasting, walks and yoga were high quality. All the staff were excellent and went to great efforts to make sure we had a happy stay.
- 465catharinas (10/5): Romantic experience in Kerala - We would recommend this place to any one travelling to Kerala. Very friendly people, excellent food, and all the facilities you need. We settled in the spacious honeymoon suite with our own jacuzzi. Very romantic place.
- susewilson (10/5): Perfect Peace, Incredible Hospitality - A beautiful and peaceful stay at The Spice Tree Munnar. The surroundings are stunning, and waking up to birdsong each morning was such a treat. We loved the bird watching, the amazing dinners and breakfasts, and the super attentive staff who made everything feel effortless. A truly wonderful experience - highly recommended!!
- DurhamNH (10/5): Wonderful hotel in Munnar hills - thank you for the incredible memories - This hotel is gorgeous and a real find. Rooms are nice, views are amazing, food is spectacular (probably the best of our 3 weeks in India) and staff are more than hospitable. They go above and beyond for every guest and treat them like family. They surprised me with a homemade cake for my birthday and helped celebrate with us - that will be a forever memory.
There are so many opportunities here at the hotel: tea tasting, local hike, yoga, cooking demo, multiple pools, ping pong, games - we didn’t have enough time for it all.
This property has fabuous views and exudes relaxation. The grounds are lush and so well kept.
It is important to note this hotel is 45 mins from Munnar town so be prepared for driving time if you have a planned activity, but the views are exquisite the entire time.
- horshamhelen2019 (10/5): Just perfect! - We absolutely loved this hotel and it was definitely the best place we stayed at throughout the whole of our 3 week trip through Southern India and Sri Lanka.
Located in a stunning location with scenic views, this small hotel is set in a beautiful old building and everything about our stay was extremely calm and restful.
The staff were very accommodating and the rooms were fabulous with everything that we could have needed. There were a number of complimentary activities available on site, from tea tasting to local evening walk with a member of staff. Other chargeable activities are also available, including spa treatments.
The food in the restaurant was all cooked to order and was fantastic. Our group is all vegan but they catered for our dietary requirements with no problem and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was delightful and they even went to the trouble of baking us vegan vanilla cake which was delicious and much appreciated.
If I ever make another trip to India, this is one place I will have to return to, a stay here is a whole experience in itself. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, it was simply perfect!
- Voyager63681880102 (10/5): Wonderful Honeymoon Stay at Spice Tree, Munnar. - Had the most amazing honeymoon stay at Spice Tree Munnar! The place is so peaceful with stunning views all around. The staff were super friendly and made us feel really special throughout our stay. Everything — from the cozy room to the food — was just perfect. Definitely one of our most memorable trips.
- Shajmal (9/5): A peaceful and pleasant stay with great privacy and attractions - The property is an exceptional choice, especially for those seeking calm, quiet, and peace of mind. Each cottage and villa offers well-maintained privacy, while accessibility to on-site attractions is thoughtfully managed. It’s best to visit during drier weather, as some of the complimentary in-house events may be cancelled during heavy rain. The property could benefit from offering a proper closed or shaded car parking facility. Additionally, enhancing the entrance area with improved landscaping or design would create a more inviting first impression that reflects the beauty and quality the resort holds inside.
- Casey (10/5): - So many kind words to say about Spice Tree. First: how many establishments have you ever been too that the manager of the Resort will ride with you to the hospital. FYI do not drink the spring water in the National Park in Munnar. He rode with our taxi driver to hospital, he stayed with me the whole time. I can never thank him so much for his help. You are an amazing Man. Thank you.
2nd this resort is the place for a great escape to relax and enjoy wonderful food by the best Chef.
3rd the staff there was perfect. From the reception and room cleaners, and then to the grounds cleaners. Everyone welcomes you with an open heart.
I will have to say as tourists, we must always do better. Please tip the waiter staff, to the room cleaners. They work hard and deserve the respect we get as tourists from the Spice Tree.
I will be back. Love India and Munnar is the best.
- janoos_1992 (10/5): Perfect for a peaceful getaway! - My wife and I stayed at Spice Tree Munnar for two nights, and it was an unforgettable experience. The staff were exceptionally courteous and attentive, making us feel truly cared for throughout our stay. The resort’s ambiance is serene, scenic, and beautifully maintained—perfect for a peaceful getaway. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Munnar!
- 831dheerak (10/5): Outstanding stay - Out standing and edge to nature. Great hospitality and especially dining team treat us like family. Purely touch our inner soul with fresh air and cloudy sky
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional in every way would highly recommend! - Location is beautiful and serene. Food is delicious and the staff are warm, friendly, and helpful. Nothing.
- Vijay (10/5): Awesome relaxing stay for family - It’s a very beautiful scenic property . With fog and valley visible from room Seems like slightly difficult to reach and go to another spot
- Climber43244312375 (10/5): Feeling relax and peaceful from day to day hectics. - Had a wonderful holiday with friends
Very peaceful and nature lover place
All staff members were very very cooperative and taking very good care of all guests.
Feel top notch luxury without disturbing nature is the USP of Spice tree
Highly recommended
- Tourist41232287513 (10/5): EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE - GREAT EXPERIENCE, GOOD FOOD, GOOD AND CLEAN ROOMS, STAFF CREATES A WARM AND WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT WHERE WE FEEL VALUED AND RELAXED.
TEA TESTING SECTION WAS GOOD AND PERSON IN CHARGE HAS EXPLAINED THE VERITIES OF TEA EXCELLENTLY. OVERALL WE HAD A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE .
- Wanderer22996611562 (10/5): Once in a lifetime experience - Excellent service, wonderful once in a lifetime experience, courteous staff, nice ambiance, early monsoon jeopardised plans but proper scenery kept us going. Loved the place, food and ambience.
Keep doing the good work.
Spa experience was also exceptional
- 804nidhin (10/5): Great - I had a truly wonderful experience at Spice Tree Munnar. The staff were exceptionally courteous, attentive, and always ready to help, which made our stay feel warm and personalized. The ambiance of the resort is simply outstanding—calm, scenic, and beautifully maintained. Everything from the room to the surroundings gave a sense of peace and luxury. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the natural charm of the location.
This is definitely a place I would love to come back to. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable getaway in Munnar.
With love
NIDHISH JISY JANVI
- SJBLondon (10/5): Fantastic hotel - I cannot recommend this hotel enough the stunning view from the room over the valley to the peace and quiet of the area.
The dawn chorus was a fantastic way to be woke.
The food in the restaurant was superb and just there it was my birthday and they laid on a fantastic cake to celebrate.
If I was ever in Munnar again I would not hesitate to stay here.
- Happiness21755519755 (10/5): A hidden gem in the hills near Munnar - A beautiful, small boutique hotel set on the hillside with spectacular views. The rooms were gorgeous and the food was delicious. Everyone was so welcoming and there were lots of activities such as tea tasting, guided walks and cookery demonstrations.
It was a perfect place to spend a few days.
- 001Celia (10/5): So glad we picked The Spice Tree from so many choices - As many have said, two nights is a short stay but it is possible to fully maximise your time at this wonderfully run hotel. We loved our stay at The Spice Tree, this is what we managed to fit in....
We arrived in time for the afternoon tea tasting which then lead almost directly into the sunset walk (both of which were complimentary). The next day , we chose to take the jeep safari up to Kolukkumalai Tea Factory (be warned, this is a seriously hair-raising, thrilling off road experience!) and in the afternoon we took a short drive down to the lake. Before we left the next day, we completed the 2 hour planation work (again, another complimentary activity which really shouldn't be missed).
All of our meals were eaten at the hotel and were an absolute highlight of our stay.
There is clearly huge competition in this area and we seriously considered many different hotel options. The Spice Tree won us over with their great offer of so many complimentary activities and also those that they could offer at - what we believed to be - a reasonable price. Our room was beautifully furnished and comfortable and we loved the different areas of the hotel. However, the absolute selling point of this hotel are the staff, they made our stay warm, happy and memorable. Thank you to you all, Celia and David.
- danhuz (8/5): Very good but still a little room for improvement. - Pros:
* remarkable views
* great location to explore tea plantations
* decent food
* good WiFi
* pleasant staff
* very comfortable rooms
Cons:
* we could have done with a guided tour of the site to find our bearings.
This hotel was close to 5* and there’s nothing especially wrong with it but we have already been in hotels with better service and restaurants. Don’t let that put you off if you need to be near Udumbanchola as our preferred hotels are some distance away.
- DavidC__76 (10/5): Wonderful and magical - I concur many other reviews, this hotel offers a slice of paradise. At the top of the mountain, you have a magical view of the surroundings. The small infinity pool is definitely recommended and if you have time, just relax and enjoy the view. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast, the food was good. I definitely recommend!
- Road02918406051 (10/5): A beautiful lush green property to escape the city chaos - Our stay at SpiceTree Munnar was pure magic! We spent 4 wonderful days here, and from the moment we arrived until the day we left, we loved every bit of it.
-- The Property --
The property is a beautiful green oasis. Even the rooms have little potted plants that add such a cozy, fresh vibe. Walking around feels like therapy — it’s calm, peaceful, and every corner is so thoughtfully designed. There's a spa, a library with a view, spacious rooms overlooking the scenery, and plenty of activities to enjoy. Honestly, not a single complaint!
-- The Staff --
The hospitality was exceptional. From the start, the staff made sure we felt welcome and comfortable, always greeting us with a smile. They patiently answered all our questions, fulfilled every request, and even set up a lovely candlelight dinner for my birthday. Despite the rain, they ensured everything went smoothly — truly flawless service!
-- The Food --
If I had to pick a highlight, it would be the food. Absolutely delicious! I found myself looking forward to the breakfast buffet every morning. Every dish I tried was fantastic, but a special mention to the Crumb fried Chicken with Orange and Green Tea Reduction — it sounded unusual but tasted incredible!
If you’re still on the fence, don’t think twice. SpiceTree Munnar is worth every penny. Whether you want to relax, savour amazing food, or just escape the chaos of city life, this place is perfect.
- 587annemarieg (10/5): Wish we could have stayed longer - We had a wonderful stay at Spice Tree. Beautiful room with a wonderful view from our balcony.
The service we received from the moment we arrived made us feel so special. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious.
Thank you for a wonderful stay and for making our anniversary trip so special.
Only wish we had stay three nights instead of two. It was over too quickly!
- Jasontoms7 (10/5): Exceptional Experience at Spice Tree - My colleague and I recently enjoyed a 2-night stay at Spice Tree Munnar. Needless to say, the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The team that runs this property is truly world class and anticipates your needs before you know that you have them. The rooms are spacious and feature stunning views, many of them with their own private plunge pools as well. The food and beverage program is outstanding with a wide variety of local and Western options to choose from. Every morning we enjoyed al fresco dining on their patio which overlooks the pool area. Their Ayurvedic spa offers numerous treatment options at very reasonable prices in a gorgeous setting. This stay has been the highlight of our trip and we already can’t wait to return again in the future. Thank you again for the amazing experience and your warm hospitality!
- elizabluebell (10/5): A slice of heaven literally - The most wonderful place, especially after the madness of Mumbai. So tranquil. We did wonderful hikes with a lovely guide. Tea tasting, massages and a cookery demonstration. Nothing was too much. They also made a real fuss of us all on our 30th wedding anniversary. A cake and a beautifully decorated table. Wonderful staff - highly recommend
- CJCheshire (10/5): Exceeded expectations - Arriving at Spice Tree was like a series of lovely surprises. Walking across the little bridge to reception, discovering our beautiful spacious room overlooking stunning countryside, eating delicious freshly cooked meals in the conservatory styled restaurant, discovering the little infinity pool from where we could watch chestnut headed bee eaters flitting through the trees and feeling so well looked after by attentive, friendly and professional staff. The views are majestic and the attention to detail excellent. Some lovely touches.
Truly exceeded expectations.
- 407benedictem (10/5): Outstanding property in every way - Stunning boutique hotel with breathtaking views. From the amazingly comfortable and beautifully decorated pool villa to the delicious food and friendly service, everything was perfect and designed for a memorable stay. I highly recommend.
- S4148TJchrisl (10/5): Great experience, highly recommend. - A really special hotel perched on the side of a mountain. We had two cottage rooms facing one another just down the hill from the restaurant so a short walk up. The staff was wonderful and vey accommodating, the rooms spotless, the food very good. There is also an outside area for drinks which was charming. My daughter and I both had massages which were also very good. Would highly recommend.
- Explore22777026191 (10/5): A very peaceful retreat - We stayed here for 2 nights. A very tranquil and peaceful place to stay. Wonderful views of the valley and excellent food in the restaurant.
The staff are very helpful and attentive. Could not rate this place more highly but don’t expect a busy resort
- Relax19769971050 (10/5): A magical retreat in the hills - We had a magical stay at The Spice Tree. Perched on the side of the hill surrounded by tropical flowers and a cardamom plantation it is a perfect retreat with spectacular views. The rooms are delightful, beautifully appointed with every comfort, even a private jacuzzi bath. The restaurant was excellent and all the staff attentive, courteous and caring. We highly recommend this wonderful hotel, we only wish we could have stayed longer.A Magical
- hasua2017 (10/5): Memorable stay - We stayed here for 3 nights at this beautiful, stunning resort. The resort is a hidden gem set against mountains and nature, and you do feel one with nature.
Our villa with a pool was ideally located amongst natural beauty and surroundings, which you could never get tired of watching. The sunset was beautiful here, a backdrop to the mountains, and the sound of exotic birds made you greatful to be at one with nature.
All staff were outstanding but would like to mention Suraj, who always ensured we were well looked after
Dinner was pleasant in a beautiful location to marvel on.
The location is remote, but the hotel has enough activities to enjoy.
We had a lovely stay here.
- viyonaw (10/5): Excellent stay - Spice Tree Munnar Resort is a peaceful getaway located in the beautiful hills of Munnar. - Rachael (9/5): Superb -
- Shivani (8/5): Beautiful villa room! - I booked this hotel on a whim after reading the reviews and wanting to pamper myself on my vacation to India. I was traveling there with another friend of mine. The Manager Mr. Randheesh and Ms. Renju graciously greeted us and helped make tour arrangements as well. The chef and other staff kept checking on us to make sure we were comfortable and happy. The villa with the pool was grand, private and beautiful. I just wished the mountain view was not blocked by all the shrubs. I think that was not the case with the second villa they had on property. The breakfast buffet was perfect with variety and tasted authentic. We tried the spa service as well and I enjoyed it as well.
The price for the booking was very steep but the service and room was worth it.
There is one comment however I would like to make. Although I had made the booking in my name, they treated my friend as the superior although I mentioned he is a friend not my husband. I wanted to tey an independent excursion in the morning when my friend was asleep and the security staff was very reluctant to arrange an auto at first and asked me if I took permission from my friend before going out. Given that.many foreigners travel here, I was not expecting that cross questioning. They finally did call me an auto when I said I'll walk up the hill to get one myself instead.
I visited Munnar during peak summer in April, and since the rooms only have fans we did toss and turn at night. But I had a splendid stay there.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Dariusz3 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raja (9/5): Superb -
- Santosh (7/5): Average property compensated by superb food and very warm staff. - Nice quaint and cosy property. Food was outstanding ! The facilities were a bit basic. Spa was always overbooked.
- Dushyant (7/5): Good -

- Amy (10/5): Amazing location, property, food, and staff. - Stunningly beautiful location and landscaping. Restaurant and Spa were fantastic. Nothing, everything was fantastic.
- Anurajsraj (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing staff, awesome ambience. I especially loved the Hot Tub experience.
Next time I would stay for longer as it was not enough number of days for us.
Trough out breath takingly peaceful ambience around the property and within the property 1. Even though the food is great, there is not much variety in food. Same menu for lunch and dinner
2. You cannot drain the hot tub own your own. Every time you have to drain it, you have to call the reception. It's just like advertising when I used a hot tub
3. Water pressure (rate of flow) is too low.
- K (9/5): Superb -
- Hasan-sm (7/5): Good location and staff but Suites and services aren't value for money. - The staff was really helpful and amazing, kind, courteous as you would like them to be. The location is a bit tricky and while the property is decent the value for money for the rooms wasn't something I could relate to.
The food was OK but I kind of expected better service and cleanliness. The suites aren't really private where you can enjoy the scenic beauty as a pathway goes by the side, plus having to call the staff to clear the jacuzzi ( from the outside) which kind of limits ur privacy as everytime u use it the hotel staff needs to be notified... they could do better with auto draining, etc.
All being said though I would visit this property for their base rooms to enjoy the location and the view .. I just don't think the honeymoon suites are value for money. I think there are better properties for this price point ..

- Maura (10/5): Fantastic resort with impressive staff - I had an amazing stay at this resort! It is located a bit away from Munnar town, but do not let that worry you as this is beautiful part of Munnar. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area, and the resort itself has many options to pass the time. But the best part was the team here. Very professional and helpful! This was by far the best hotel I stayed at while in India as they made every detail count. For a really special stay, I highly recommend the pool villa! Fantastic restaurant, too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): EXCEPTIONAL IN EVERY WAY - Spice Tree was exceptional in every way. Beautifully situated in the mountain Munnar region but far enough away to be in pristine quiet and beauty. The staff was excellent with customer service, the food was gourmet, and the design of the rooms and hotel itself is very considered in the lush setting. Our treks through the tea plantations and the Lakshmi Hills, were arranged by the staff and were personal and beautiful. l This place is a GEM and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Munnar.
- Margaret (10/5): Spicetree is excited exceptional in every way - SpiceTree was glorious! Beautifull setting located in the tea plantations overlooking the mountains. Well designed and considered design of hotel for the location. Exceptional service and food. I highly recommend this hotel.
- Austin (10/5): Amazing trip to Spice Tree! - This was probably the highlight hotel of our 2 week India tour - the road trip from Kochi was bumpy to say the least, but when we arrived it was SO worth it. The property clings to the side of the hills and has stunning views over the valley below, which is stunning in the rain and mist.
All the staff were so friendly and made sure we had a great experience on our visit. Dinesh was excellent on front desk and made all the arrangements for our transport and day trip to the tea plantations (you must do this jeep safari day - it was excellent). Mathew and Sooraj in the restaurant were awesome and very friendly. Siju who guided our morning spice plantation and dolmens evening walk was so helpful and knowledgable - we had a great time.
Food was great, facilities so clean and comfortable, spa massage was exceptional.
Only regret was only staying three nights! A most relaxing and enjoyable stay - we would definitely stay again. Thank you!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Spice Tree is in a fantastic location high above "Bison Valley", nestled in a teak forest and a short drive away from the tea plantations surrounding Munnar. The location is not the only great thing about the hotel -- the staff and service are superb, the restaurant is excellent and the facilities are great: from the coffee shop/bakery to the library and spa. The icing on the cake was the "wine and milk" bath, which was spectacular with the result being a petal-strewn bath with floating tealights.
- Daniel (10/5): Great stay. - Fantastic stay. Amazing service by Daneesh at the front desk. Beautiful property in the mountains.
- Sania (10/5): Absolutely Pristine Location - We loved our stay at Spice Tree, Munnar. The rooms are luxurious and the food is delicious, but the best thing about the place is that the entire experience is built on being sustainable and kind to the environment. They don't use plastic anywhere (event the shampoo/conditioner containers are cute little clay pots), the food is locally sourced and organic, and the electricity is mainly from the solar panels on the property. The views are absolutely breathtaking that make the ride up entirely worth it. A special mention of the staff, they were always very kind and efficient. We absolutelty loved our long weekend there.
- rik (10/5): Wonderful place in the cool hills - First place in india where they don't expect tips for everything. Food brilliant. Staff really helpful and caring. Grounds beautiful. Views wonderfull. We could live there quite happily.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Prachtig gelegen, geweldige service en vriendelijk personeel. Dagprogramma is inbegrepen, hartstikke leuk!
- James S. (10/5): Highly recommend. - Terrific hotel. Service as good as it gets. Excellent food. The location is out of the way but the hotel provides activities to fill a good two days. There is a wonderful aesthetic to the entire place. And, of course, quiet. Note: there is no air conditioning anywhere at the hotel, but at the altitude in the mountains, AC not really needed. We highly recommend.
- Ahmad (8/5): منتجع راقي - The road to the resort is very bad.
- Robert (4/5): Disappointing - and not a good value - We were very disappointed in this visit, our second one. We were misled by management a few times, and were not advised by the hotel that the roads to the hotel were undergoing construction, and all of the decent roads were closed. Not knowing, we ended up on roads that were dangerous, took even longer, and were not suitable for our vehicle. The manager on duty said that the road closure had just started that day, which was not true - we learned it had been closed for weeks. If the hotel had been responsible and caring about their guests, they would have advised us - we very probably would have canceled our stay, as the road closure delays also forced us to cancel the excursions we planned to take. We felt that we were misled by the management on several occasions while we were there. We had also emailed in advance to request spa services for the evening we arrived, and were told that it was no problem, no need to book - we'd be able to book on the spot. When we arrived, there were no services available. The rates at the hotel are quite a bit higher, almost double, what they were previously, and although the facility and the location are beautiful, and the rooms very nice, it is not a good value at this price point. Also, we found that the food was really not very good at all compared to our previous stay. The spa services are mediocre These should be significantly better for the price they charge now. The staff are very nice, and the activities quite good.
- Ahmad (10/5): منتجع جميل - الطريق إلى المنتجع سيء جدًا.
لا توجد خدمات بالقرب من المنتجع بسبب موقعه المعزول
- Verified traveler (10/5): - جدا رائعة
- Bharath (10/5): Mesmerizing stay..!!!!!! - its simply superb...... Go for it...!!!!!
- Lawrence (10/5): Gem in Munnar - Hotel is located in the mountains of Munnar. Hotel is relatively new, in immaculate condition, VERY clean. Amazing restaurant,, delicious and very innovative dishes, had cooking class. Ayerveding massage was one of the best I had during my trip, clean and relaxing environment. Manager and staff were very friendly, helpful, from the first minutes we were surrounded by very pleasant and helpful staff. They gave alot of advice for the trip. I wish we had stayed longer, we ended up leaving later and spent relaxing extra afternoon. Would definitely recommend it, would go back again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent hotel. Nice location and very friendly staff.
- Bryce C. (10/5): Cup of Heaven - I cannot express what a hidden gem I found in Spice Tree Munnar. the room- one of the most romantic. the grounds- lush, meandering paths, stunning vistas, quaint common areas. the service- impeccable and sincere. favourite: the hidden library/coffee shop at the base of the property. I sat and read, distracting myself with the valley views, watching a sunset and sunrise, with faint Hindi music echoing through the hills. This stay alone was MY India. my only regret was not spending a few more days. Probably one of the farthest spots away from Munnar central, which makes it perfect- quiet, natural and authentic India.
only cons: bed was pretty lumpy and insects somehow managed to get in, but otherwise I would have given 5 stars all around. best stay of my trip.
- Kulguy (10/5): Nice hotel with a fantastic view - The hotel was far from the centre of Munnar but the location was awesome as it was right in the middle of the mountains. The hotel had a great view, excellent service, good wifi and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fantastic getaway in Munnar - Fantastic getaway. The hotel is perched on a hillside with fabulous views from every room. Rooms themselves are modern with good amenities and the jetted tub is great. The pool and restaurant area setting is very nice as well. However this is not a 4-star facility as indicated but more at the 3-star level. Very friendly staff and service, especially the front desk staff as well as our trekking guide. One point to note is that the hotel is far away from everything. While the seclusion is great, it also means that you really cannot go anywhere without a car, and the approach roads are in pretty poor condition as well. They were able to arrange a car for us from Cochin airport so this is not a big deal. Overall, highly recommended.
- Prabaldeep (10/5): A postcard perfect place - In a hotel you look for 3 things that differentiate it from others.
1. The property - this one was postcard perfect
2. Service - it was immaculate
3. People/warmth - this probably is the most important since it can make or break the experience.
We were fortunate to be with all the staff who took care of all our needs and for always being there with suggestions and executing on our choices.
All the best to the team.
- NOKESH (10/5): Gods own home in Gods own country ! - It was raining incessantly as we stepped into ''Gods own country'', Kerla - Munnar. Spice tree management and its staff did whatever required to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Our best wishes and compliments to Spice Tree !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing hotel!! Amazing location!! Amazing Hospitality!!
- Ruchira (10/5): Nice views and great comfort. - We found the staff quite courteous and supportive. They run little activities which are quite interesting and keep you engaged. The nature walk was really educative and interesting. The hotel bakery is a big plus. Hotel even takes care of your driver.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great hotel, idyllic location, fab staff - Myself and four friends decided to treat ourselves for one night of the holiday and stay at the Spice Tree - it was 100% worth it. What a lovely hotel!
- Henry (10/5): This is the Real Spice of all hotels in Munnar - This place is a "must do" for anyone who loves an eco friendly environment that soak away the "rat race" which we all have to endure daily. The sheer serenity of this place and the ever accommodating staff will simply make you ask for more.......but than there's no more left to ask because you have been given and taken all.Wow what a place.Only been opened for 2 years now but you better hurry because everyone will want a piece of this place when they get to hear about it.
The jungle walks and the friendly locals in their houses all making your visit to this place simply even more humbling. You get to learn and value humility. However be prepared to endure a long mountainous drive with never ending twist and turns of the roads.Hire a driver and car package.Don't even think of driving here yourselves cos its not worth the risks
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great staff & facilities - 1) Great staff - professional and courteous
2) Location and views were brilliant - we observed around 10 different bird species in the morning hours from our room balcony
3) Restaurant food was good - our son is allergic to tree nuts and they showed good awareness
4) They have a good swimming pool - but do note that it is outdoor and the weather was cool-pleasant - so for us the water was cold - we headed back to our room that had a good size Jacuzzi
